00:00All right, Laura, today's the day.
00:02The day? What day?
00:04You know, today's the day that we can finally expand from just being a little dive bar
00:07to the most popular and expensive bar in all of Los Angeles.
00:11Wow, that's great, Jane.
00:13But I don't understand. How? What do you mean?
00:16Why don't you just go ahead and read this out loud?
00:19We are incredibly impressed with not only your business history,
00:22but also your future projections.
00:24We would love to set up a meeting at your bar to discuss future investment opportunities.
00:28Oh my god.
00:29We have a potential investor.
00:31Oh my god, Jane, that is so insanely exciting. Congratulations.
00:35Thanks. I mean, it means so much just growing this bar,
00:38and I'm insanely excited for its future.
00:41And most of all, I'm really thankful for you, Laura, for making all of it happen.
00:46Of course. You know I want this place to succeed just as much as you do.
00:50More business means more tips, which means more money in my pockets, right?
00:53That's true.
00:55Well, this is going to be a perfect opportunity for all of us, I guess.
00:59Yeah, so when is this investor coming?
01:02Well, he was actually supposed to come soon today and check out the space,
01:06but he didn't give me like a detailed time as to when he might stop by,
01:10so just be on high alert, okay?
01:13Of course, Bess. You can count on me.
01:15No, Laura. I'm serious. I need this place to not only be the best bar in town today,
01:19but we have to have the best clientele, the best service. You got it?
01:23Of course, Bess. You know I got your back.
01:25Thank you so much, Laura.
01:26I mean, now I'm going to go back and, I guess, prepare some files for the investor in our discussion.
01:32Do you think you can handle it up front and make sure everything's in good condition for our special guests?
01:37Everything will be in tip-top shape. I promise.
01:39That's amazing. Thanks, Laura.
01:48Oh, no, come on. It had to be today.
01:56Hey.
01:56Hi, sir. Listen, this is awkward, but you can't actually sit there.
02:00Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize this seat was taken.
02:03No, no, it's not taken. It's just, um, you can't sit there.
02:06Oh, uh, okay. Well, where can I sit?
02:10How about, uh, you can move to the corner of the bar over there.
02:13It'll be a nice private space out of view from the customers and get to have your drink in peace.
02:19Um, well, I was planning on actually staying for a while.
02:22Uh, I don't mind sitting out there.
02:25I kind of like being able to watch people a little bit, you know, get the vibe of the place,
02:28you know?
02:28Well, I assure you, we have the best crowds, but with that in mind, I don't know if you would
02:33be a hundred percent, um, suited for the vibe here.
02:37Suited for the vibe here? What does that mean?
02:40I, I'm just saying that this bar is pretty high-end.
02:43Hmm. I can see that. Yeah. I like what you guys have done with the place.
02:47Thank you. Um, but what I'm trying to say is that it's a very important day for the bar and
02:52we kind of can't have anyone who isn't top of the line clientele in here.
02:57Oh, I can assure you that I match whatever standards you guys have here.
03:02Right. It's just people like you don't generally put the bar at ease.
03:06That's a very weird thing to say. What are you trying to tell me?
03:09I mean, when someone takes a look at the bar in its entirety, they want to see it filled with
03:13a certain type of people and I don't think you fit that profile.
03:16And seeing as we got to put our best foot forward today, I, I must insist that we move you
03:20to a different spot.
03:21Okay. Sounds weird. And, frankly, a little racist.
03:29Listen. Can I just get a drink, please?
03:31Are you gonna pay for it?
03:32Yes. I'm gonna pay for it. What?
03:34Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask. I've served customers of your type before and...
03:38Let's just say they never closed out their tab.
03:40I'm just curious about what the drinks are like here. I promise you I will be more than happy and
03:45able to pay for it.
03:47Fine. What would you like?
03:48I'll just take a classic margarita, please.
03:52Okay. Well, we can definitely do that, but I have to warn you our margaritas are pretty strong.
03:56And I can assure you that I can handle my alcohol pretty well.
03:59Right. But I've seen how this goes and one strong drink leads to the next, which leads to the next.
04:05And then the next thing you know you're being too rowdy and completely ruining the atmosphere.
04:09And we just, we can't have that today.
04:11So, wait. You don't think it's weird of you to assume that I would just get rowdy?
04:17I promise you I'm pretty composed even after I drink.
04:20I don't know. There's a reason why people like you are always referred to as the life of the party,
04:24right?
04:24Alright. This is getting ridiculous. Can I please just have my drink?
04:29Fine. Give me your card.
04:34Aren't you going to ask if I want to open or close?
04:37Oh, we're closing this now.
04:51Um, sir, this card was declined. Guess you're going to have to leave.
04:54What? Really? Oh, I just literally used it to buy dinner 30 minutes to go across the street.
05:00I can't say I'm too surprised.
05:02I'm not sure I appreciate what you're insinuating.
05:05I'm not insinuating anything. I'm telling you your card was declined, so you need to pick yourself up and get
05:10out of our bar.
05:11Could you please just try running it one more time? I really don't think it would decline that easily.
05:16Excuse me? Are you accusing me of lying?
05:18No. I just really need to try a drink.
05:22Oh, yeah? And why is that? You really need a drink? That sounds like some alcoholic behavior.
05:27I'm not an alcoholic. I'm doing this for my job.
05:30You and your people are always making up some story to try to get around rules and get what you
05:35want.
05:36Ma'am, I'm not lying to you.
05:37You guys are always trying to steal from honest, hardworking businesses. Well, it's not going to work on me.
05:42Get out of here before I call the cops.
05:44Call the cops? What are you talking about? What have I done? What have I done to you?
05:48Sir, don't get loud with me. Just as I expected, getting all confrontational when something doesn't go your way.
05:53Get out of here now.
05:55Fine. Look, you know what? I will leave. I don't need to take your racist, rude remarks and all this
06:02other stuff. Just give me back my card.
06:04No, I'm keeping this and giving it to the police. I have a feeling it's declined because you stole it
06:08and somebody's frozen the card.
06:09What? You can't be serious. This is ridiculous. Give me back my card.
06:13No. Leave now before I have you thrown out of here.
06:16What is going on here? Oh my gosh. Mr. Royce.
06:21Jane, you know this man?
06:22Yes, of course. He's our potential investor. Why are you parading him?
06:27He's the potential investor?
06:29Yeah, that's right. I didn't get a chance to introduce myself. I'm Owen Royce, CEO of Eastfield Establishments.
06:36I came here today to discuss future development opportunities with this bar, but clearly I'm not welcome here.
06:43Mr. Royce, I promise I didn't know.
06:46Regardless of who I am, you shouldn't be treating anyone this way. Your rude, racist remarks are not only highly
06:52inappropriate, but just plain wrong.
06:55Mr. Royce, I sincerely apologize. Please, allow me to make it up to you.
07:00I think the damage has been done, Jane. This is clearly an establishment that I'm not welcome to, so I
07:06don't think it's one that I want to be associated with in any capacity if the staff here is so
07:10ignorant and racist.
07:12No, Laura's values do not reflect our values as an establishment. In fact, Laura, you're fired.
07:19What? You're firing me?
07:21Your behavior towards Mr. Royce has shown me everything I need to know about who you are. I mean, how
07:26could you be so blatantly racist? Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.
07:32You're firing me after all I've given to this place? I've worked here for three years.
07:36Three years is not a long time. And you know what? I can't believe it's taken me this time to
07:42realize the kind of person you are. Laura, just get your stuff and get out of my bar.
07:47I'm the best bartender this place has ever had.
07:49Okay, clearly not if that's your world view. It's literally as shallow as you are, so get out.
07:55You'll regret this. With investors like this guy, I know this place is as good as done, and I can't
07:59wait for the day that it crumbles.
08:02Mr. Royce, I am so sorry. Her values do not represent how we view ourselves as an establishment.
08:10You know, it's terrible because I was genuinely interested in investing in this place. I mean, outside of staff, it's
08:16a pretty impressive venue.
08:18Thank you. I mean, how could I make it up to you?
08:22Well, I never did get that drink I wanted, so maybe we can start there and we can sit down
08:27and talk about some future endeavors.
08:29Absolutely. I'll get you a drink. On the house, of course.
08:32Thank you. Looking forward to talking to you.
