00:03I only have to look 10 seconds to where I'm standing to understand how important Colombia is.
00:09You have one of the biggest biodiversity on this planet.
00:13You have a political system, a political government that wants to move towards climate neutrality.
00:20You have a population that understands that the climate crisis is a threat to them
00:25and they want to do something about it.
00:27If we succeed in taking Colombia into that direction, Colombia will be a leader on the world scale.
01:28First of all you have to make sure that people who depend for their livelihood on the natural environment, on
01:33the forest,
01:34have a livelihood, have a prospect of development that is not linked to deforestation.
01:40They need to live where they live and prosper and grow without deforestation. That's the first task.
01:46The second task is that you go after the criminals who are deforesting parts of the Amazon, parts of the
01:54primary forests to make a lot of money.
01:57You don't need to go after them. There can be no impunity.
02:00Thirdly, you have to go, and that's our responsibility in Europe, you have to go after those who buy the
02:05products that are obtained by illegal deforestation.
02:10And we have to make sure that these products are no longer transported to Europe, and that we clarify that
02:16we don't want products from deforestation.
02:19The European Commission, which has adopted a set of proposals to adapt the European Union policies in terms of climate,
02:25energy, transport and fiscalization,
02:27is optimistic in terms of the new government's ambitions.
02:30It is not my place to judge previous governments, but what I have seen is a speeding up of the
02:38ambitions
02:38to become climate neutral, speeding up of the ambitions to be a global leader in fighting the climate crisis,
02:47speeding up the ambitions to work together with international partners to achieve successes,
02:52but most of all speeding up the efforts to do something about poverty in Colombia,
02:57because the only way you can get the people on board for climate policy is if you do something about
03:04their poverty
03:05and give them a perspective so that they can grow, they can prosper and that they become optimistic about their
03:11future.
03:12And that I think is the biggest change I have seen in the last five months.
03:15The European Union projects that support the European Union are in line with the European Pacto Verde Europe
03:21through enfoques such as the neutralization of carbon, the conservation and restoration of ecosystems,
03:26the economy circular, the green businesses and the consecutive objectives of sustainable development.
03:32And then you have to demonstrate that through not going through deforestation,
03:39so maintaining and increasing your natural environment and your forests, you grow your economy.
03:45It's the economy of the future. This environment is the future, it's not the past.
03:50And we have a collective responsibility as humanity to protect it.
03:56Whilectic state provided affect those people's potentialピtailors,
03:57it naturally affect their retour and umsensitial properties of the European Union.
03:57We must emerge here from the European Union so- сторону.
03:57To sponsor who has beenierten the European Union,
03:58it we must be proud to be a secular nation.
03:58And there are many of the countries but also known as the European Union.
