Extreme meteorologist Dr. Reed Timmer reports from a cluster of supercells in Iowa as the threat for tornadoes rises higher and higher on Tuesday evening.
Transcript
00:00This is a tornado-warned supercell looking west from Waterloo. You can see
00:04that cloud-to-ground lightning strike that just happened. There is another
00:07supercell that's developing to the east here with an inflow tail that's racing
00:11into that new wall cloud. We're likely going to be targeting this southern
00:14storm. It had a tornado warning, still has one, but it is cycling right now on
00:19approach. So it's developing a new wall cloud over there. There's a new lowering
00:23starting to develop and this storm has increasing tornado potential as it moves
00:27off to the east, eventually hitting those more southerly surface winds located
00:31across eastern Iowa. And we're also watching the warm frontal zone up into
00:35central Wisconsin. There's southeasterly surface winds up there and monster
00:40supercells are forecast to move along that outflow, that warm frontal zone.
00:43There could be significant tornadoes up there as well as down into eastern Iowa
00:47pushing east into southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois through the evening
00:51hours. And we're also watching the outflow boundary down into central Illinois
00:54into central Indiana. That could have a renegade supercell. That was a backdoor
00:59target for us, but definitely could be big tornado potential there as well. And a
01:02tornado watch has been issued for the southern mode. Severe storms moving out of
01:06northwest Texas in the direction of Oklahoma and an increasing low-level jet
01:10this evening would likely support a tornado threat. But we have an inflow band
01:14that's racing into the wall cloud here on an eastern supercell. We have a cluster of
01:18supercells that has developed near the Waterloo area and the southern one we're
01:22watching for a new cycle and increasing rotation.
