00:00Let's talk about some WNBA action to start here.
00:02Seems like in every league, Joe, nobody likes the commissioners here.
00:06Let's hear what Kathy Engelbert has to say.
00:08Let's hear this one.
00:09Adam Silver was asked last month about just your future as the commissioner of the WNBA,
00:15and he said he didn't know what you wanted to do.
00:17So I guess I'm just curious, how much do you want to stay the commissioner of the WNBA?
00:22How much longer do you anticipate to be in this role?
00:25Well, thank you, Maddie.
00:26I do crack up how everybody's focused on me,
00:30and you should be focused on the hundreds of amazing women
00:33and thousands of women who run this league outside of myself.
00:37No men are in the league.
00:39Our women board of governors, our women GMs, and women head coaches,
00:42and my whole team of diverse women and men who are working hard every day
00:47to get the 30th season tipped off by May 8th.
00:50But I appreciate that you're focused on me as well.
00:52I wonder whether you would ask that of a man, by the way.
00:54But I realize we get asked different questions than men do.
00:59But look, I'm so proud of this league, and I'm here working really hard
01:05to make the 30th season our best ever
01:07and to continue to build that sustainable economic model we know we need for the future.
01:12So nothing else to report, which is probably why Adam didn't report anything.
01:16There's no story here.
01:18I'm thrilled with our trajectory.
01:20I'm filled with the growth, thrilled with what we've done over the past couple years,
01:23and really looking forward to the next few years.
01:26Now, questions are always going to be asked of CEOs all the time.
01:29Now, Roger Goodell, roundly booed.
01:31Anytime you see him, it's a rite of passage whenever they get to the draft
01:33because nobody relates to the actual commissioner themselves.
01:36You know who does usually like them?
01:37The NFL owners, why?
01:39Because every single year, their pocket's bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger.
01:42It's like, yeah, you might hate Roger Goodell.
01:44We love him because he makes us money.
01:46So flip it over to the WNBA.
01:47He's going to be in their 30th season.
01:49He's never made a single profit.
01:50I think it's a valid question to ask.
01:52Are you going to stick around any longer because there's growth in the league
01:55but not growth in profits right now?
01:57How do you deal with that?
01:58Ah, you wouldn't have asked a man that question.
02:00She immediately goes, yes, I would have.
02:04And of course you would because it's not a sexist comment.
02:08It's the fact that you're a CEO, essentially.
02:12And every CEO of any company, yeah, it's a legit question.
02:16Are you hanging around or you're not hanging around?
02:19Are you planning on moving?
02:20You're not moving?
02:21What are your goals?
02:22I didn't see anything wrong with that.
02:25She could have just left it at, yeah, I appreciate you thinking about me,
02:29but really it's all about that and just left it at that.
02:32I don't know why she had to go down that role.
