The Morning Shift reacts to Atlanta Falcons beat writer Josh Kendall putting together a list of the best wide receivers the Falcons could draft in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. They explain why they think all signs are pointing to the Falcons not picking at 48 and trading back for more draft picks, and also explain why they think if the Falcons do keep their 48th overall pick and make a pick at 48 that pick won’t be a wide receiver.

00:00All right, so the draft is coming up soon,
00:01and Josh Kendall put out an article about wide receivers
00:04that the Falcons should be taking a look at, according to the Beast.
00:08So a guy we've talked about before, Jeremy Bernard came in number one on this.
00:12Dane Brugler has him ranked 41 overall and 7 at wide receiver.
00:18He's projected to go in the second round.
00:21Would you be good with him coming to the Falcons?
00:25Well, yeah, I would love Jeremy Bernard here.
00:28I think he's a very good player,
00:31and he was Alabama's most consistent best weapon all year
00:35at the wide receiver spot.
00:37I don't believe for the life of me that they're picking at 48,
00:41and if they are picking at 48,
00:42I don't believe that they're picking a wide receiver.
00:44I just have gotten it kind of stuck in my head that they're going to trade down.
00:47That's not the question.
00:48That's just my thought.
00:50But I don't know if I would be okay with Jeremy Bernard at 48
00:54because I think you have a true one,
00:55and you've brought in a two and a three,
00:58whether you think they are true twos and threes, if not.
01:03And I understand that you need to figure out the future of the position.
01:06I just don't know if I can pick a wide receiver at 48 overall.
01:10But I would be okay with Jeremy Bernard here.
01:12And it would be one of those moves where I would go on the air the next day
01:16and say I didn't like the pick at 48.
01:20But then I would tell you how much I love Jeremy Bernard,
01:23and then I would love it moving forward because I like him as a player.
01:28Yeah.
01:28I'm with you.
01:29And Dane Brugler does such a good job with the Beast.
01:32He brought it up.
01:34He said before, Dane Brugler says he didn't even watch college football.
01:37Which is insane.
01:39Yes.
01:39He's like, I just watch film.
01:40I don't watch college football on Saturdays.
01:42I just turn the tape on.
01:44And I like to see what these guys are putting out there.
01:46I was trying to kind of find a rhythm when it comes to these guys that Josh Kendall has selected
01:52because there are like, hey, I went to this guy's pro day or they had a pre-draft visit with
01:56this guy
01:57or they have this guy in Zachary Branch, all the above.
02:00And Jeremy Bernard actually surprised me on one of the things I looked up
02:05because I think the biggest kind of stat for me, if you will, or at least, you know, testing
02:12is going to be a 10-yard split for some of these guys.
02:14And when you look at Jeremy Bernard's 10-yard split, it's way better than I thought it was going to
02:20be.
02:20His 10-yard split at the combine was number five for wide receivers.
02:23It was a 1.52-second 10-yard split.
02:27Didn't expect that because he's a 4'5", 40.
02:30And so that means he can get up to speed very quickly, but the top speed's not great.
02:35And that's kind of the opposite of what I was imagining when I was looking at Jeremy Bernard.
02:40He doesn't seem to me to get up to speed very quickly.
02:42Now, can he play every single position?
02:44Yes.
02:45He's played every single wide receiver position.
02:47And he's even got, I think I saw the stat on there, maybe five rushing touchdowns in his career,
02:51which is crazy because they use him on end-of-rounds and things like that.
02:54But I just think so much for me when I look at it, short burst speed is going to be
02:58such a huge,
03:00integral part of what they're trying to do when they draft a wide receiver
03:03that I'm not sure that he's that guy.
03:06Although on paper, credit to him, it says that he is that guy according to combine.
03:09There's something, I said this the other day, and I think I'm going to double down on it
03:14because I'm just tired of reading about how great athletes guys are.
03:19We're going to get to a name later in Bryce Lance, who's Trey Lance's little brother,
03:23who's also a wide receiver in his draft, who's a really good athlete.
03:26But you see him do things, some good things.
03:30But what's the competition when you're playing at North Dakota State?
03:33And I know that they're a powerhouse into what, D2, or football bowl subdivision,
03:41or whatever the hell it's called.
03:43But I don't know.
03:44But when I read this write-up about Jeremy Bernard, I wanted to share this because I love it.
03:48This is what Dane Bruegel wrote.
03:50At the risk of sounding obtuse, Bernard is just a good football player.
03:54He's a good-sized athlete.
03:55He can gear up and get down, gear down with ease,
03:58and he plays as comfortably along the sideline as when attacking the middle of the field.
04:02Now, he talks about it might be a little hard to create separation for him,
04:06but he's a natural at competing and addressing the football
04:09and plays with toughness without contact.
04:12In other words, to sum it all up, go back to the first sentence.
04:15He's just a good football player.
04:18And that means more than anything to me when you're looking at these prospects.
04:26Can they play football?
04:28Are they good at it?
04:29Do they do it at a high level against high competition?
04:32Guess what?
04:32He checks all those boxes.
04:34Yeah.
04:35And I think that's fair.
04:36I really think – and I think it's a good point.
04:38I think Bo and I – I think we look at this draft differently.
04:42And I think that when I look at Jeremy Bernard, I think it's a good –
04:47I think that's exactly what he's saying.
04:48He's a good football player.
04:49But I also think there's other guys that are listed that you can get in the third,
04:52fourth, and fifth.
04:52And I think this is what Bo is trying to say, that maybe there is a higher ceiling.
04:56Maybe the floor is lower, right?
04:58But maybe you do have that just outstanding track speed that all of a sudden kind of opens things up.
05:03It's the Xavier Worthy conversation from a couple years ago with the Chiefs.
05:06You're like, of course he goes to the Chiefs.
05:07He's got four – you know, two speed.
05:09And they're going to be able to do incredible things.
05:11Now, has he been great for them?
05:12No.
05:12And so that's kind of the balance you have to find within some of these prospects
05:16and when you're going to take them.
05:17And that's the problem with guys when you just look at speed and stuff.
05:20Sometimes those guys aren't durable.
05:21I mean, Xavier Worthy – now, I'm not saying it was his fault
05:25because Travis Kelsey put him on the sideline for like six weeks, right?
05:29Yeah.
05:29But imagine if he was, I don't know, a little bit stronger, a little bit bigger,
05:34a little bit – you know, I don't –
05:37I agree.
05:38I feel – it just feels hateful saying I don't like talking like this.
05:41But he's a little fragile.
05:42And if you're on – if you run into another player and you're out for six weeks,
05:50that's tough for me to – especially with my roster here,
05:54that's tough for me to take in a second or third round
05:56where honestly I need guys to come in and contribute immediately.
06:00You are – and we're going to get to a lot of these guys,
06:02but you brought up Bryce Lance, and I'll just say this before we let it go.
06:07His numbers do reflect exactly what I think the Falcons would do.
06:11I didn't love his tape, but his numbers, 4-3, 4, 40-yard dash,
06:15and I think he has the number three split from the combine, 10-yard split, 149.
06:20He does have the numbers that I think that I would target if I were the Falcons
06:23and trying to get a receiver at 48.
06:25I just didn't like his tape.
06:26Well, let's talk – I know we'll talk about this again at seven, right?
06:30Chris Bell's the guy I'm interested in talking about as well from Louisville.
06:34Chris Bell is up next.
06:35We'll talk about him right at seven.
06:37Coming up, we're going to get into the Hawks-Knicks matchup.
06:39And for my Mac drop, look, I am losing faith in people.
06:42I found a scam that is proof that nothing is safe.
06:46Nothing is sacred, and you can't just trust anyone.
06:49We'll get into it next on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game and the Odyssey app.

07:13Several accidents along eastbound I-20.
07:15The first one reported right there at Highway 92.
07:18You've got one lane blocked.
07:20Then eastbound I-20 at Lee Road, trying to get that off to the shoulder.
07:23Your eastbound I-20 right before 285.
07:27That's still blocking off one lane.
07:28So, seeing quite a backup throughout that area.
