00:00Industry players have welcomed the government's move to consider targeted diesel subsidies,
00:05proposing a monthly subsidy of about 300 litres for pickup trucks and up to 1,000 litres for lorries.
00:12Daniel Chan, vice president of the Federation of Motor and Credit Companies Association of Malaysia,
00:19said small businesses are reporting lower margins as they rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles for their operations.
00:26With a full tank of diesel now costing between RM500 and RM600,
00:32Chan said a subsidy would help cushion the impact of rising diesel prices.
00:37He also called for the implementation of a mechanism similar to the Booty 95 scheme for subsidized Ron95 petrol,
00:45saying it could help stabilize demand for diesel vehicles while supporting small businesses.
00:51Tipper-Lorry Operators Association president Michael Liu said,
00:55the sector is closely tied to the construction industry,
00:59transporting materials such as sand, cement, aggregates, quarry products, and rare earth.
01:05He said it is a major contributor to the economy and that if they are affected,
01:10there will be a spillover effect, adding that operators may be forced to reduce trips to cut costs.
