00:00It's a solar panel.
00:02As the conflict in Iran chokes off one of the world's most critical energy arteries,
00:06energy security is no longer optional, but a strategic national priority,
00:11says Datuk Seri Fadila Yousaf.
00:13The Deputy Prime Minister, who also oversees Malaysia's energy transition portfolio,
00:18delivered this stark warning at the launch of a new solar energy project on Tuesday.
00:22The global energy landscape is increasingly complex and uncertain.
00:26The recent escalations and the disruptions at the Strait of Humus
00:32have since struck waves through the global energy market.
00:37All prices continue to fluctuate, directly impacting electricity costs, business costs and economy.
00:47In such an environment, energy security is no longer optional.
00:53It is a strategic national priority.
00:55Therefore, we must continue to strengthen our position by developing stable,
01:02domestic and sustainable energy sources to ensure long-term resilience.
01:09The launch was no coincidence in timing.
01:12Two newly completed solar farms, jointly developed by SolarVest Holdings,
01:17Malaysia's largest solar power company and Tenaga National Berhad,
01:20represent the country's largest public-private renewable energy project to date.
01:25Built at a combined cost of RM300 million,
01:28the farms will supply 60 megawatts of clean power to a roster of major tech and business tenants,
01:33including U.S. semiconductor giant micron in Penang and Johor,
01:38Texas Instruments,
01:39Bursa Malaysia and NTT Global Data Centres in Selangor.
01:42The completion of Sedia Kaman Energy and Solar Solar Projects today
01:48marks the beginning of a larger transformation.
01:53Malaysia is laying the foundation for a future where energy is cleaner,
01:59more secure and more competitive.
02:01So let us work together, government, industry and partners,
02:08to position Malaysia as a regional player and global beacon of sustainable growth.
02:14Malaysia currently has 12 gigawatts of installed renewable energy capacity,
02:19driven largely by solar.
02:20But the government wants far more,
02:23targeting 40% renewable power generation by 2035
02:26and an ambitious 70% by 2050.
02:29such as its natural resources.
02:31You want to make it better,
02:39because the current technology is a huge part of nuclear power generation.
02:39have a closure and be a place that energy can be available in the world's public.
02:40You
