U.S. Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” that negotiations “did make some progress” in the Islamabad talks on the U.S. insistence on the removal of nuclear material from Iran as well as a mechanism to ensure uranium cannot be enriched in the future.

00:00We did make some progress in the negotiation.
00:02The big question from here on out is whether the Iranians will have enough flexibility,
00:08whether the Iranians will accept the critical things that we need to see in order for things to get done.
00:13And this is ultimately why we left Pakistan, because what we figured out is that they were unable,
00:19I think the team that was there was unable to cut a deal,
00:22and they had to go back to Tehran, either from the Supreme Leader or somebody else,
00:27and actually get approval to the terms that we had set.
00:30The President of the United States has said he would be very happy if Iran was treated like a normal
00:36country,
00:36if it had a normal economy, if its people were able to prosper and thrive.
00:40But in order for Iran to be a normal country economically,
00:43it's going to have to be a normal country from the perspective of not pursuing a nuclear weapon,
00:48and it's going to have to be a normal country from not pursuing terrorism.
00:51There really is, I think, a grand deal to be had here,
00:55but it's up to the Iranians, I think, to take the next step.
00:59I think the President of the United States likes to mix it up on social media,
01:02and I actually think that's one of the good things about this President is that he's not filtered.
01:06He doesn't send everything through a communications professional.
01:09He actually reaches out directly to the people.
01:11You know, when it comes to the disagreements with the Vatican,
01:15look, we're going to have disagreements, Brett, from time to time.
01:17I think it's a good thing, actually, that the Pope is advocating for the things that he cares about,
01:23but we're always going to have disagreements on matters of public policy.
01:27Or I should say, sometimes we're going to have disagreements on matters of public policy.
01:30The Pope has been critical of our immigration policy,
01:33but ultimately the immigration policy of the United States is set by Donald Trump.
01:37The Pope is going to have disagreements on other issues.
01:39We can respect the Pope.
01:41We certainly have a good relationship with the Vatican,
01:43but we're also going to disagree on substantive questions from time to time.
01:46I think that's a totally reasonable thing.
01:48It isn't particularly newsworthy.
