Addressing a Turning Point USA event in Georgia, U.S. Vice President JD Vance discussed the 20-plus hours of negotiations with Iran where he lead the U.S. delegation. He said that Trump “doesn’t want to make, like, a small deal. He wants to make the grand bargain.”

Vance added, “That’s the trade that he’s offering,” and that Trump is telling Iran, “If you guys commit to not having a nuclear weapon, we are going to make Iran thrive.”

00:00I mean, just this Iran thing, Charlie would be the guy who was talking to the people who really wanted
00:05to go to war with Iran
00:06and the people who really didn't want to go to war with Iran, and he would try to find ways
00:10for those guys to work together
00:11even if they disagreed over one issue, right?
00:14And so Charlie's absence is a huge thing.
00:17I recognize that a lot of young voters don't love the policy that we have in the Middle East.
00:24Okay, I understand that.
00:27I'm not saying you have to agree with me on every issue.
00:29What I'm saying is don't get disengaged because you disagree with the administration on one topic.
00:36Get more involved.
00:37Make your voice heard even more.
00:39That's how we ultimately take the country back.
00:41Right now, the ceasefire is holding.
00:43And what you're seeing is the president wants to make, he doesn't want to make like a small deal.
00:50He wants to make the grand bargain.
00:52And what he's basically offering to Iran is very simple, and frankly, it's something that no president has,
00:57I think, has had the ability to offer.
01:00He said that if you're willing to act like a normal country, we are willing to treat you economically like
01:06a normal country.
01:07He doesn't want a small deal.
01:08And that's one of the reasons why, one, I'd say in Pakistan, we made a ton of progress.
01:14But the reason why the deal is not yet done is because the president, he really wants a deal where
01:20Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapon.
01:22Iran is not state-sponsoring terrorism.
01:24But also, the people of Iran can thrive and prosper and join the world economy.
01:29And that's the trade that he's offering.
01:32He's saying, if you guys commit to not having a nuclear weapon, we are going to make Iran thrive, we're
01:43going to make it economically prosperous,
01:45and we're going to invite the Iranian people into the world economy in a way they haven't been in my
01:50entire life.
01:51And that's the kind of Trumpian grand bargain that the president has put on the table.
01:55Man, we're going to keep on negotiating and try to make it happen because it would be great for the
01:59world.
01:59It'd be great for our country.
02:01It'd be great for everybody.
02:02So I'm going to keep on fighting to make it happen.
02:04But again, I'd almost rather have the conversation.
02:07So I kind of like, even when there's disagreement, I like it when the Pope comments on questions of immigration.
02:14I like it when the Pope talks about abortion.
02:16I like it when the Pope talks about matters of war and peace because I think that at the very
02:21least, it invites a conversation.
02:23I certainly think the answer is yes.
02:25And I agree.
02:26Jesus Christ does not.
02:27I agree.
02:27Jesus Christ certainly does not support genocide.
02:29Whoever yelled that out from the dark, he certainly does not.
02:33I think that's pretty easy.
02:35I think that's a pretty easy principle.
02:37When the Pope says that God is never on the side of those who wield the sword,
02:42there is a thousand-year, more than a thousand-year tradition of just war theory.
02:48Okay?
02:49Now, we can, of course, have disagreements about whether this or that conflict is just.
02:53But I think that it's important.
02:54In the same way that it's important for the Vice President of the United States to be careful when I
02:58talk about matters of public policy,
03:00I think it's very, very important for the Pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology.
