A violent incident disrupted a thesis defense session at Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau on Wednesday morning.

A 23-year-old female student was attacked moments before presenting her thesis inside a campus courtroom. The suspect, a 21-year-old male student who was reportedly known to the victim, suddenly approached and assaulted her in front of other students.

• The attack happened at approximately 8:30 AM local time.
• The victim suffered injuries to her head and arm.
• Fellow students and campus security quickly intervened and secured the suspect at the scene.

The victim was immediately transported to RS Bhayangkara Pekanbaru for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities from Polda Riau confirmed the suspect has been detained. Preliminary findings suggest the motive may be related to personal conflict. Police are continuing their investigation.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about campus safety and student welfare.
