00:01I'm Susan Kalman. I've been to some amazing places on cruise ships.
00:07There are two wheels just up ahead.
00:09But this time...
00:10Come on, come on.
00:11I want to take you on some truly unforgettable globe-trotting adventures.
00:15The best cup of tea in the world?
00:17I think so.
00:18These are my bucket-list cruises to beat all others.
00:23To parts of the world you only ever dream about.
00:26They're quite breathtaking.
00:27A dream come true!
00:29Aboard every kind of ship, some huge.
00:32Goes on for miles.
00:34Some a little smaller.
00:36The captain already to escort me on board?
00:38Personally.
00:39So pack your suitcase and your passport.
00:42How do you do?
00:43And join me sailing the high seas.
00:46Yes!
00:47And you could end up here.
00:49Sort of spiritual, isn't it?
00:51Or here.
00:52This is my first time seeing a kangaroo.
00:53I'm so excited for you.
00:54Or even here.
00:56Welcome on board my cruise of a lifetime.
00:59Here's the cruise.
01:06This time I'm on one of the largest ships I've ever cruised on.
01:11She's a big'un.
01:12Where I'm taking in the bucket-list destinations.
01:15From catching waves in Barbados.
01:17Yay!
01:18Yay!
01:19To chasing waterfalls in St Lucia.
01:22It has taken my freight away!
01:25And viewing underwater art in Grenada.
01:27I don't think I've ever sailed.
01:28I feel like this in my life.
01:29There she is.
01:30That's my ship.
01:31And she's one of the biggest I've ever sailed on.
01:32Look.
01:33Let me show you how big it is.
01:34Come on.
01:35Come on.
01:36Now when some ships I've been on.
01:37It would take me about 30 seconds to get to the end of it.
01:40I've actually not gone yet from the start of the ship to where the main part is.
01:56We're not even at the first gangplank yet to get on the ship.
02:01You mustn't worry about your step count on this cruise.
02:11Okay.
02:12Come on little legs.
02:14We can do it.
02:15To use a technical term, she's a big'un.
02:20Goes on for miles.
02:22It feels like it.
02:24And at 331 metres, the MSC Virtuosa is massive.
02:28And when I say massive, she can accommodate up to 6,334 guests, has 1,700 crew members,
02:36and 18 decks.
02:41She's also home to 11 restaurants, 21 bars, which is more than some UK towns.
02:46Oh, and your very own robot bartender.
02:54Just on board, I need to find my cabin.
02:57On a smaller ship, that might be easy, but this one is a little bit more complicated because it is huge.
03:03So, your cabin.
03:05Search by cabin number.
03:06One, three, two, four, three.
03:10Confirm.
03:13That is my cabin.
03:14So it is at the, I would say, the rear of the ship.
03:17Let's see what else we can find out here.
03:19Most useful button I've ever seen.
03:20Nearest toilets.
03:21Because do you know what question I ask more than anything else?
03:24Where are the nearest toilets?
03:25I ask it about 17 times a day.
03:27And this will tell me wherever I am.
03:29So, we need to go to the lifts.
03:31We need to go to deck 13.
03:33And then we need to make our way to the back of the ship to find the cabin.
03:38Right.
03:39Deck 13 is where my hunt continues.
03:41Thirteen.
03:42Eh.
03:43Oh, so it's not too much left to go to.
03:45Fancy.
03:46Now to find one cabin out of over 2,400.
03:50So, I'm going this way.
03:54I don't know if it's this way.
03:57I think it might be this way.
03:59Nope.
04:00That's even cabins.
04:01It must be this way.
04:10It is this way.
04:13But it's not over yet.
04:15I've just got to walk half the length of the ship.
04:19And hope I don't get lost.
04:27Poor one.
04:28It'll be the next one.
04:29It'll be the next one.
04:30The sense of triumph is complete.
04:34Success!
04:36Here we go.
04:38Well, this is absolutely lovely.
04:40Very modern.
04:41Nice mirror for the morning to do that.
04:44Little balcony out there.
04:45Perfect for enjoying the sunshine.
04:47Looks like a lovely comfy bed.
04:50Let's see.
04:51I read everything.
04:52Want you to have a good night's sleep?
04:54We provide two pillows.
04:55One soft and one slightly firmer.
04:58To satisfy different preferences.
05:00Your cabin attendant will be happy to help you choose.
05:03I don't think we'll do that this early on in our relationship.
05:07We've not met him yet.
05:09Can't say, come in fella.
05:11Try the pillows with me.
05:12Bit forward.
05:13I'll do it myself.
05:15Do it myself.
05:17Slept in a lot of beds.
05:19Sounded a bit wrong.
05:22I don't need it like that.
05:24This cruise visits a whole host of destinations and gives you a real flavour of all the Caribbean has to offer.
05:34I've hopped on this cruise of a lifetime in St Vincent, where we will then head east to beautiful Barbados, before travelling 149 nautical miles to Grenada.
05:45And then we finish our five day adventure in the paradise of St Lucia.
05:51But first it's time to mingle with some of the 6,000 or so passengers on board.
05:57Hello everybody.
05:58Hiya, how are you doing?
06:00I heard your voices and I thought, they sound like British cruisers.
06:04I must say hello to them.
06:06How long have you been on the cruise for?
06:08This is our 13th day.
06:1013th.
06:11That's quite a long cruise, isn't it?
06:13It's almost a hop on, hop off.
06:15People are joining and leaving all the time, aren't they?
06:17It is.
06:18Do you think that's a good thing?
06:19It gives you people the opportunity to do either 7 months or like what we've done the whole 10 nights.
06:23Right.
06:24And then it just keeps the cruise fresh because new people are on it each time.
06:27You get to meet new people as you're going on and off port.
06:30Have you enjoyed the facilities on the ship?
06:32Yeah, I mean we are in the...
06:34The Posh Bend.
06:36The Yacht Club.
06:37You can pay to get into?
06:39No, basically you book a cabin within the Yacht Club.
06:41Oh.
06:42And it gives you access to the front of the ship.
06:45Right.
06:46Where your butter looks after you 24-7.
06:49It does everything for you.
06:51You just told Anna saying, I've just found a rich house for your house situation.
06:55Are you not in the Yacht Club?
06:57No.
06:58Have you felt different?
07:00Have you felt like it's changed?
07:02They do have to come out and visit us.
07:03Look down on us sometimes.
07:04Is it that old sketch, I look down on these people because they're not members of the Yacht Club?
07:13Well listen, thank you for chatting to me.
07:15Have a lovely last night and I'll see you all soon, okay?
07:17See you later on.
07:19Because there last night is my first night and I can't wait.
07:24I make no apologies for this.
07:26I am going to explore every inch of this ship and every part of this beautiful place.
07:33It's going to take some doing.
07:35Luckily, a match fit.
07:37Come on!
07:38Coming up, I hit Barbados on the most fun of fun buses.
07:44Brums, pass them back.
07:46Now it's a party bus!
07:49And will I hang ten or wipe out on the sun-kissed surf?
07:53Alright, up you go.
07:55Up, up.
08:04Welcome back to my cruise of a lifetime.
08:06I'm on a colossus of a cruise ship and we've arrived in beautiful Barbados.
08:12But first, with this ship carrying so many passengers, I'm heading to Deck 7
08:17to join the rest of the group on my excursion.
08:20Ladies and gentlemen, now it's the time to go and join your tour.
08:26Two of my favourite things are about to happen.
08:29An excursion and organisation.
08:32I mean, what would a holiday be without that?
08:37Because with so many people getting off the ship, us passengers are split into groups and given a number.
08:44When your number is called, you can head off for your excursion.
08:46Oh, I love organisation. This is the best holiday ever.
08:51We've arrived at the island of Barbados, known for its stunning beaches, fabulous culture and of course, rum.
09:04In 2023, more than 650,000 cruise passengers visited the island and the capital, Bridgetown, is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
09:15Bonjour, welcome, welcome, welcome.
09:18So we're about to head off on kind of an island hopping tour.
09:22The guide is also the driver.
09:24You boot them and you think, no idea what's going to happen.
09:27This is the fun bus.
09:29Are you ready?
09:31I'm ready for the fun bus.
09:32These open-sided buses are a great way to do a whistle-stop tour of Barbados.
09:38And our guide, Alex, definitely brings the fun.
09:42Who's like to have some fun, yeah?
09:44Yes!
09:46Anyone know what is this?
09:48What's that?
09:50What's that?
09:52This is your best friend for the day, yeah?
09:54All right, okay.
09:55Three gallons of that rum punch, yes?
09:58They want the punch.
10:00They want the punch.
10:02So we're going to get you guys going so we can have some fun.
10:05Three gallons of rum punch on board.
10:08Now, you don't get that on a bus at home.
10:12In fact, it's actively discouraged to bring your own punch onto a bus when you're heading to Sucky Hall Street.
10:20But everything in moderation.
10:22We'll get a little sample of that later on.
10:23For now, all we need for a good time is good music.
10:28The party's having to wait for a traffic jam.
10:31Yeah, of course.
10:32So this is when we're going to have some fun, all right?
10:35Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
10:38Feel it?
10:39Hot, hot, hot.
10:43So you rum bum bum bum.
10:45That's my favourite bit.
10:47And you rum bum bum bum.
10:49Olay, olay, olay olay.
10:54Olay, olay, olay, olay olay.
10:58Mmm, haceno mah bun bum bum bum bum bum bum bum.
11:01Every go bum bum bum bum bum bum.
11:04Feeling hot, hot, hot.
11:07Barbados is actually the home of rum. Now does anyone know what it was called before it was called rum?
11:16It was called kill devil. Yes. They used to store it in lead pipes and they learned it's not good for the body.
11:27So they said when you drank it, it could kill the devil.
11:31The seven of the guys drank it, they got all rumbotious, so there they call it rum.
11:38While Barbados is known for rum and gorgeous beaches, it still has some surprises up its sleeves.
11:44Now if you look through the gap on your left, you will see a red and white sign.
11:49Woolworth! Woolworth!
11:51I'm going to get my picking mix.
11:54And there are monuments to other legends on this island too.
11:57This is National Hero Square. What we have in the middle, the monument, it is called our loyal sons and daughters all.
12:04It represents the shackles because we came from slavery.
12:08So the meaning of this monument is the Barbados family bringing free from the shackles of slavery,
12:14giving birth to 11 national heroes so that we can develop as a country. Yes?
12:20So to the right, who do we see?
12:23Rihanna.
12:24Rihanna.
12:25These are our 11 national heroes.
12:27These are all guys who contributed to the development of the country, yes?
12:33National Hero Square.
12:35And with such a long history, Barbados doesn't only celebrate its famous heroes.
12:41The right brick wall to our left, so you guys can see the inscriptions.
12:46Now this has every last name of every person who has built the island of Barbados from scratch, yes?
12:52So we had a lot of guys passing through Barbados at that time.
12:56We had the Portuguese, the Spaniards, the Englishmen.
13:03As our Whistle Stop Tour pulls over next to one of the many gorgeous beaches,
13:09we're all ready for a well-deserved rum punch.
13:12And I'm on hand to help out.
13:14I've now ingratiated myself into the party bus.
13:17Of course.
13:18One, two. There's two. Let's get them back.
13:21Right, rums, rums, rums, pass them back, pass them back, pass them back, pass them back.
13:30There you go. Three, another one.
13:32So one more after this. Enjoy it.
13:34I can, I can, I can test fries and fries. It's really very delicious.
13:40Good, good.
13:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:44It's very good.
13:46Why are we good, eh?
13:48No.
13:49Now it's a party bus.
13:57And as much as I could stay on the fun rum bus for hours, I'm hopping off for my next Barbados bonanza.
14:05Enjoy Barbados.
14:06Hi, thank you very much indeed. Thank you very much indeed.
14:08Do you see that?
14:10Someone just walking past said enjoy Barbados.
14:12That's the vibe of this place.
14:14That's what Alex did for us.
14:15Because Alex was waving at everyone and everyone was waving back.
14:18And it feels like, in a way, you're not a visitor.
14:21It feels like you're part of it already.
14:23I've stepped off a massive cruise ship to this beautiful Tildare Island and I absolutely adore it.
14:29That was a fun bus.
14:32And it's the kind of fun I'm in for.
14:41And the fun never ends.
14:43As I'm meeting Alan Burke.
14:45He's been surfing since he was a child and has even represented his country in surfing competitions around the world.
14:52So I'd say he's the perfect person to teach me a thing or two about catching those waves.
15:00Alan, I've been so looking forward to meeting you.
15:03You're a big deal in surfing, aren't you?
15:05You are, come on Alan, you are.
15:07I've been around.
15:08I've been around.
15:09I started surfing when I was eight years old.
15:12Right.
15:13There's a beach named after my family.
15:14It's called Burke's Beach.
15:15Really?
15:16It's a mile south of the capital of Bridgetown.
15:19I'm ninth generation.
15:20Uh-huh.
15:21Originally out of Galway.
15:22Out of Galway?
15:23Yeah.
15:24Well, neither or not.
15:25You've lost the accent a little bit, Alan.
15:27Yeah, and I speak in my best possible English for you right now.
15:30When I think of surfing, I don't necessarily think of Barbados, but it's a great place to come, isn't it, for surfing?
15:38Yes, it's world class.
15:40We got some of the best waves in the world.
15:42As a matter of fact, our premier spot, which has become very famous over the years,
15:47the soup bowl listed as four favourite waves in the world.
15:50The soup bowl?
15:51The soup bowl.
15:52Now, why is it called the soup bowl?
15:54Well, the word soup is what white water on a wave is.
15:58Right.
15:59It's known as soup.
16:00Because it's a very powerful wave.
16:01Uh-huh.
16:02It became known as soup bowl.
16:04I've caught a wave just body surfing.
16:07And perhaps on my knees.
16:08And the feeling is extraordinary.
16:10Lovely.
16:11I have a difficulty with the popping up onto my feet thing.
16:15So anything you can do to help me, do what you can.
16:19Yeah?
16:20Yeah.
16:21Okay.
16:22I will.
16:23I'm going to catch a few waves and stand up for sure.
16:24And we're going to be standing.
16:25Okay.
16:26So after a quick change, I'm armed with some basic surf knowledge, the perfect Barbados
16:33surf, and my very own pro sporting instructor.
16:37If I'm ever going to stand up on a board, today's the day.
16:41Ah, no.
16:42No?
16:43No.
16:44It seems I'm still getting my sea legs, but my not-so-secret weapon Alan is on hand.
16:58What's most important is your head up and over your feet, over your board, right?
17:03And he's also called in the surfing cavalry, his equally pro surfer son, Jacob.
17:10Been joined by a very handsome young man.
17:13So I'm feeling inspired.
17:15What I would like you to do is push her in a wave.
17:19So I'll let you know when to stand, right?
17:22All right, off you go.
17:23Up, up.
17:24Stay right there.
17:25Ah.
17:26That was the closest I've ever been to standing on a surfboard.
17:29How are you feeling?
17:30Yeah, cute.
17:31I love being in the water.
17:32I love being in the water.
17:33I feel it in the water.
17:34Just being in the water.
17:35One more time.
17:36I feel bending at your waist.
17:37Yeah.
17:38And you're leaning over, you're going to topple over.
17:39So if you feel that happening, just get your head over your feet.
17:40Don't think it's over, right?
17:41Right.
17:42I've got this.
17:43And Susan, this one.
17:44Ride it till I say it off.
17:45Come on, Calman.
17:46Hard push, yes.
17:47Keep going.
17:48Keep going.
17:49Okay, Anna.
17:50And up.
17:51Right up, right up.
17:53And up.
17:54Yeah.
17:55And up.
17:56Right up.
17:57Right up.
17:58Right up.
17:59Right up.
18:00Right up.
18:01Right up.
18:02Right up.
18:03Yeah.
18:04Okay, I'm doing it.
18:05I'm doing it.
18:06One more time.
18:07You're bending at your waist.
18:08Yeah.
18:09And you're leaning over, you're going to topple over.
18:10So if you feel that happening, just get your head over your feet.
18:11Yeah.
18:12Don't think it's over, right?
18:13Right, I've got this.
18:14And Susan, this one, ride it till I say it off.
18:15right up. Yeah, stay with it. Bend your knees. That is it. Bend your knees. Bend your knees.
18:19Hooray!
18:30Yay! That was good.
18:33Thanks, Dave.
18:35Beautiful.
18:36That was nothing short of exhilarating. Amazing what you can do with pro surfers by your side.
18:45First time standing up. Absolutely magical. And over time to Batman there. He is a magician.
18:55Woo! Swallowed half the sea, but all good.
19:02For now, I'm swapping my one-person board for my 6,000-person ship.
19:08We've got a sea day between us and our next destination. So, as the sun sets, I'm keen to check out the nightlife and meet some fellow cruisers.
19:21Cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers. Seems like you're having such a nice time. I wanted to talk to you. What's your name?
19:30Jay. Lovely to meet you.
19:32Kravina. Lovely.
19:33Jayshree. Lovely to meet you. Now, are you first-time cruisers or have you cruised before?
19:39I'm first-time cruiser, but they have been.
19:42I've been before. You've been before. How many have you been on before?
19:44This is my third one. Third one. Yeah. We are 14 people. Pardon, now what now? 14 people.
19:5114 of us. What are the relationships between everyone then?
19:55The sister-in-law, brother-in-law. Friends and family as well.
20:01Who's the organiser? Someone has had to organiser. Is it you?
20:05This is the second day.
20:08So far, it's good.
20:10You're going to take advantage of the excursions, because it's not just about the ship, is it? It's about the excursions.
20:15Do you know what you're going to be doing?
20:17We have already booked. We have done swimming with sharks. No.
20:21Stingrays. Stingrays.
20:23It's like, hang on a second. What are you doing?
20:26Look, there's a big difference between dolphins and sharks.
20:30I'm swimming with sharks. And you're taking advantage of onboard activities as well?
20:36No, no. What are we going to do on the white night? But we all bought the white dress.
20:40Right. I didn't know there was a white night.
20:42Oh, right. You can board one.
20:44So, I'm slightly struggling with the dress codes. White dress.
20:49White dress.
20:50I've got a white top that I happen to bring with me.
20:56That's not going to beat you all the way?
20:58No, it's not. It'll be indecent.
21:02Well, listen, it has been such a joy to meet you.
21:04Here's a cheers to a beautiful face to you all.
21:08Here's the Caribbean.
21:10Here's the Caribbean. Absolutely.
21:12Well, that's three out of 6,000 passengers spoken to.
21:16I could be here all night.
21:20Coming up, I go above and beyond on my enormous ship.
21:24This is the highest you can get off the ship.
21:26Then head down below to an art gallery like no other.
21:30I do think I've ever seen anything like this in my life.
21:32Welcome back to my cruise around paradise, where we've left Barbados and are on our way to Grenada.
21:46When cruising round such standout locations, you need a ship that stands out too.
21:51And with 18 decks, 15 of which are accessible to passengers, you could call this one a whopper.
22:01OK, the ship is huge, but don't worry, it's actually quite understandable if you start here.
22:07This is deck five and a lot goes on.
22:09You can pick excursions here.
22:11There's also reception for all your queries.
22:14And basically, the ship starts here and goes up from there.
22:18So, if you ever get confused, come to five and work your way up, which is what I'm about to do.
22:25So, if I'm going to tour all these floors quickly, I'm going to need to do it like a chart show countdown.
22:31Well, count up. You get the gist.
22:36So, cruise shippers, in at deck number five is Le Grand Theatre.
22:40It is quite a big theatre. Some would say, indeed, a grand theatre.
22:46At deck number six is the ground floor of the promenade, packed full of shops and restaurants.
22:52There's shops selling clothes and perfume and handbags.
22:56Now, all of these things here are made out of chocolate.
22:59Look at that octopus!
23:02A non-mover at deck seven is the second floor of the promenade, with its stunning colour-changing ceiling.
23:07Now, over there is a TV studio handy.
23:13I think they do karaoke in there.
23:15There's a pub.
23:16You're not sure to somewhere to socialise on this ship.
23:19Holding steady with cabins only are decks eight to fourteen.
23:24At fifteen, it's the pool deck, where you can also have a boogie.
23:28Vying for the top spot, it's the ever-competitive Deck 16.
23:41This is what they call the arcade.
23:45Not just for kids.
23:49There's a basketball court there.
23:54This is still Deck 16, which is the place to be if you haven't got your steps in yet.
23:59At 17, well, there isn't a Deck 17.
24:04The cruise line originated in Italy, where 17 is an unlucky number.
24:08The penultimate entry in this count-up is Deck 18.
24:12There's a barn area, a seating area, a lovely breeze, and right there are the stairs that take you to the top of the ship.
24:19We've nearly made it.
24:22And storming to the top of our chart and the ship is the water park.
24:27So this is Deck 19, and it's as high as you can go on the ship.
24:31But actually, not quite.
24:33Because they've even got a high ropes course.
24:41This is the highest you can get on the ship!
24:44Now, how do I get down?
24:47Guys?
24:49Safely down, and having fully surveyed my ship from bottom to top, we've docked at my next destination, which I'll be exploring from sea to shore.
25:06We've arrived in Grenada, which is known as the Spice Island.
25:10Which is quite handy, because I'm feeling rather spicy myself.
25:12This tantalising island earned its nickname due to the large amounts of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves that grow here.
25:23It's also a cruise favourite, with around 300,000 people visiting every year.
25:28Here we are.
25:29Here we are.
25:30Here we are.
25:31Here we are.
25:32Here we go.
25:33Woo hoo hoo hoo hoo!
25:34And the waters surrounding Grenada are a great spot for our snorkeling excursion.
25:47Quite beautiful to see the coastline's lovely way to see it, which explains the swimsuit I'm wearing.
25:56This is one of those situations, if you're like me, and you're a bit nervous about wearing a swimming costume in public, you've just got to say, who cares?
26:06Because I'm wearing my rash vest and my shorts and my swimming costume, and I just walk through the ship in it.
26:14Now, you might panic at that, but don't.
26:17Because on a cruise like this, everyone's just in their swimming costumes.
26:21Nobody cares, because we're going to do something spectacular.
26:25So, here I am, swimming costume on, like it's the most normal thing in the world.
26:30I'm going to start wearing my swimming costume to the supermarket.
26:35That's how confident I feel now.
26:38They'll ask me to leave, but, you know, fair play.
26:43Whilst the fruit and veg isles of Glasgow might not be ready for that, the beautiful blue Grenadian waters are.
26:51Because we're visiting the world's first underwater sculpture park.
26:56Oh, look at this, look at this.
26:58Small cove, you can't see anything from above the water, it's all underneath.
27:04I don't know if I'm a bit frightened, or a bit nervous, or a bit excited.
27:09But with my guides from the boat and my snorkeling fins, I'm ready to dive into a gallery like no other.
27:17Been too many sculpture parks, but never any I've had to swim to.
27:20And bobbing around on the surface, I'm completely unprepared for the absolute beauty of the artwork below.
27:34The first of its kind in the world, Molinaire Bay Underwater Sculpture Park is home to 75 works across 800 square metres of the sea floor.
27:52They're just statues, kind of, looming out of the bottom of the sea.
28:03It's quite an incredible thing.
28:05The statues are made from an eco-friendly cement that's textured to encourage coral growth, and the park draws people to this area rather than nearby delicate coral reefs.
28:23Underneath this just now is a statue called the Circle of Life, and it's boys and girls holding hands in a circle.
28:37There's another one who's thrown, but I'm gonna have a quick look at this one.
28:41The Circle of Life
29:06This is art like I've never seen before, nor will lightly see again.
29:10This is art like I've never seen before, nor will lightly see again.
29:31This is art like I've never seen before, nor will lightly see again.
29:35That was, without question, one of the most extraordinary things I've ever done.
29:50They loom up out of the water, like out of the mist.
29:55A very eerie quality, but they all mean something.
30:00It's stopped my heart in a couple of places, because it's there.
30:06That's a once in a lifetime. Once in a lifetime.
30:11After a quick change, I've headed to the mainland, and unlike the sculptures which we really had to hunt for, this island is covered in a treasure as far as the eye can see.
30:37Nutmeg!
30:39Grenada exports up to 20% of the world's nutmeg, and it's even featured on their flag.
30:46Today, I'm meeting Dame Cecil, who owns a family business that produces a variety of nutmeg-based products.
30:54And we're joined by her colleague, Risha.
30:58It is an absolute pleasure to meet both of you.
31:01For you, it comes from a very special place, doesn't it? Because it comes from your family.
31:06Yes, yes. It was started in the 1960s by my mother, and she was a wonderful cook.
31:13Right.
31:14And she felt that nothing was being done with the pericarp of the nutmeg.
31:19That is the fruit that encloses the nutmeg and mace, which are the two spices that we find on nutmeg.
31:26So, imagine I'm an idiot. Nutmeg and mace are from the same thing.
31:31Is this one of these things here?
31:33The same thing.
31:34Can you talk me through it?
31:35This is the mace, the red part.
31:37The mace is the red part?
31:38The red part.
31:39Right.
31:40Yes, that's one spice.
31:41And the second spice is inside of this brown shell.
31:47This is where, this is a nutmeg.
31:49That's incredible. I had no idea about that.
31:51I always thought mace and nutmeg were essentially the same thing, but they're not the same thing, are they?
31:56Two different spices altogether.
31:57All the older Grenadians housewives in those days knew that they could make nutmeg jelly.
32:02But then my mother took it a step further and did nutmeg jam.
32:05Right.
32:06I had absolutely no idea it was such an incredible thing.
32:09How long have you been involved here?
32:11I've been involved here about a year or so.
32:14Right.
32:15And it's a wonderful experience, because I meet different people not knowing the same thing.
32:19Can I try some stuff?
32:20Definitely.
32:21Because I'm really intrigued by this.
32:23Definitely.
32:24The syrup is a very versatile product.
32:27I'm loving this.
32:28This is the pilot for our cooking show together, you and I.
32:30We're going to do a cooking show together.
32:32Now, before we start, I love a maple syrup with my pancakes.
32:36Tell me, is that different from maple syrup?
32:38So here's what.
32:39I've had experience with Canadians visiting us here.
32:41And after they had it, they'll be like...
32:43So you've even persuaded Canadians that this is better than maple syrup?
32:47Definitely.
32:48I mean, that is extraordinary.
32:49They've said it.
32:50Have they said it?
32:51Definitely.
32:52Well, I'll tell you what, I'll be the judge of that.
32:53Okay.
32:54I've got a bit of pancake.
32:55Okay.
32:56Mm-hmm.
32:57That is amazing.
32:58It's got a tingle.
32:59Definitely.
33:00Hasn't it?
33:01Yes.
33:02It's sort of a magical thing.
33:03Let the world know about nutmeg.
33:04So what I'm going to do just for first, I just want to check one of these pancakes is okay again.
33:17No problem.
33:18I know that palette is jumping.
33:20You have.
33:21You have changed my life.
33:23They produce eight different products here, including nutmeg jam and nutmeg liqueur.
33:29And as we all know, you can't come on a cruise without getting a tasty souvenir.
33:34Or three.
33:35Okay, I've been completely converted.
33:38So, unquestionably the syrup.
33:41Now, I need another present.
33:43Um, my dad loves jams on toast and things like that.
33:48So, jam or the jelly.
33:50Jam or the jelly.
33:51Jam or the jelly.
33:52Jam or the jelly.
33:53Jam or the jelly.
33:54Jam.
33:55Nutmeg jam.
33:56Oh, one more wee thing.
33:57One more wee thing.
33:58One more wee thing.
33:59One more wee thing.
34:00Barbecue sauce.
34:01I'm going to take the barbecue sauce, the jam, and the syrup.
34:04And all of this.
34:05No, I'm just joking.
34:06I'm like a kid in a nutmeg shop.
34:08Do I have those three things, please?
34:10Thank you very much.
34:1142 dollars and 40 cents.
34:13I know, I'm cool.
34:14And if you could arrange to have that shelf shipped to Glasgow.
34:18Sure, sure.
34:19Just all of that over there.
34:20And the nutmeg syrup.
34:22Okay, thank you so much.
34:23You're welcome, Susan.
34:25Nice to meet you.
34:26Nice to meet you.
34:27Lovely to meet you, my darling.
34:28Lovely to meet you.
34:29Bye-bye.
34:30See you later on.
34:31Bye.
34:32Honestly, my dad will be lucky if I've not eaten that jam by our next port.
34:36Let alone before I'm back in the UK.
34:39Nutmeg to the world.
34:44Coming up, I party on my ship, chock full of people.
34:48Look at us.
34:49We're like the sea glutes, aren't we?
34:52And stunning St Lucia takes my breath away.
34:55The temperature feels like I could be in Scotland.
34:58Welcome back.
35:08I'm coming to the end of my mega cruise from St Vincent to St Lucia.
35:14It's been a truly fascinating day on the island of Grenada.
35:18But in all my excitement, I've forgotten something.
35:23I'm in a bit of a pickle.
35:25Cruise ships sometimes have like a themed night.
35:28Formal night, Hawaiian night.
35:30And tonight it's white night where you have to wear all white.
35:34I kind of brought a white top with me just in case.
35:37But I have nothing to wear on the nether regions.
35:40So to avoid embarrassment, I need to find something to wear.
35:43Which means I am now on a bit of a quick and very, very, very, very, very panicked hunt.
35:49Right.
35:50I've got very little time before the ship sets sail.
35:53And if I don't find anything, then it might have to be white undies.
35:59Sometimes when you go off a ship, there's a shopping centre like this.
36:02And this one is perfect.
36:04So let's have a look.
36:07None of that's white, Susan.
36:08None of that's white patterns.
36:10I mean, they're beautiful things, but they're not white.
36:14They're not white.
36:15Another swimming costume.
36:17Is that too bold to go in a white swimming costume?
36:20Is that too bold?
36:21Yes, the answer is yes, it is too bold.
36:25Their wedding dresses.
36:26Back away.
36:27Back away.
36:28Back away.
36:29We don't need a wedding dress.
36:30I mean, that's a statement, isn't it?
36:31To go to a night on a cruise ship in a wedding dress.
36:34Just wandering around waiting for my Prince Charming to come.
36:38Oh, look, I've distracted myself again.
36:40There must be something here somewhere.
36:45Plain white skirt.
36:46Right.
36:47So, I mean, in some ways it's not perfect.
36:49I like an elasticated bit at the back.
36:52Gives you a bit of room for the buffet, you know.
36:55But this will do, I think.
36:57Length-wise, I think that'll be all right.
37:01Yeah, okay.
37:02We'll go for this one.
37:04That is a relief.
37:05Because otherwise it would have been a top.
37:10And that was it.
37:12And that's not how I like to attend a party.
37:16Not after that recurring nightmare of mine.
37:19Shopping successful, I'm back on the ship just in time to set sail.
37:25And now to get my glad rags on.
37:29Because tonight is my last night on board.
37:33And it's also the must-attend event of the cruise.
37:36No, it's not a farewell Susan party.
37:39It's the white party.
37:42And I'm keen to show off my brand new outfit and my dance moves on the top deck.
37:47But this is such a big event on such a big ship that the party is everywhere.
38:01Spanning all the passenger decks.
38:05Got my top.
38:06Got my skirt.
38:07Don't look at the shoes.
38:09They're not white.
38:10It ruins it a bit.
38:11But I'm going to do a bit of promenading with my fellow party goers.
38:16Along the street.
38:21A lot of people got the memo.
38:26And some people even got the extra sparkly memo.
38:30Look at us.
38:31We're like the sequins chiclets, aren't we?
38:34What's your name?
38:35My name's Giselle.
38:36Giselle?
38:37Tracy.
38:38Tracy.
38:39Where are you from?
38:40London.
38:41London, together.
38:42What's the relationship between you?
38:43We're just friends.
38:44Just friends.
38:45Yeah.
38:46Now, when you got the memo about white night, did you think sequins?
38:48That's the only way to...
38:49I already told them what's a print.
38:50Did you?
38:51And you're the one who organised it and said, look, there's an event.
38:54You've got to wear a white outfit.
38:55I've got to wear your black, black and white.
38:57Well, it's quite nice because you put it on, don't you?
38:59Yeah.
39:00And you're wandering around and everyone else got the memo and it's quite sweet, isn't it?
39:03Yeah?
39:04It's an opportunity to dress up.
39:05Now, apparently, this party goes on all night.
39:08So, are you going to party late into the night?
39:10Yes.
39:11Well, you should.
39:12Honestly, you look so beautiful.
39:13Aw.
39:14Have a cracking night.
39:16You're gorgeous and beautiful.
39:17Thank you very much.
39:18See you soon, darling.
39:19Bye.
39:28And would you believe it?
39:30On a ship of over 6,000 people, I've managed to bump into some of my cruising pals.
39:39What a perfect end to my last night on the ship.
39:42The following day and we've arrived at the absolute paradise that is Saint Lucia.
39:53It's the second largest of the Windward Islands and is home to stunning beaches and lush landscapes,
39:59including Gros Piton and Petit Piton, two mountainous volcanic spires that rise up more than 700 metres out of the sea.
40:07Iconic landmarks of the island.
40:10Saint Lucia is also considered one of the world's top honeymoon destinations.
40:15So, I can't wait to end my trip on such a sensational island.
40:19But, as I'm already married, I've got something else in mind.
40:23I've done so many fabulous things in the sea on this cruise.
40:28I think there's time for a different type of fun in a different type of water, don't you?
40:34Because Saint Lucia is also known for its abundance of waterfalls, making it an absolute must for thrill-seekers.
40:44It is so busy here. It's bus upon bus arriving. This is a big tourist attraction. I can occasionally hear screams.
40:57You know when you're on a fairground and you hear, ah, that's what I can hear.
41:02So, I'm going to make my way through the crowd and see what all the fuss is about.
41:07This is the Tarai waterfall and those screams are in fact a result of the 50 feet cascade of water, which I'm told feels like a massage.
41:16I've been on a big trip. I've seen the big destinations and it's been full of big surprises.
41:23In fact, I'd say it's taken my breath away. Actually, hang on. Let me show you how it feels.
41:29Because I can't travel all this way just to look at a waterfall now, can I?
41:34Cue outfit change.
41:36There you go.
41:38It's really cold.
41:40Nice, there you are.
41:41Oh, quite cold. Quite chilly.
41:44Nearly my turn.
41:47Oh, I'm so short. Why am I so short?
41:51I'm leaving up to a sea.
41:54Can't say I've ever queued for a waterfall before, but you better believe I'm embracing these chilly waters.
42:01I'm going under that waterfall. I'm going to put my hands up to the sky in a celebration of the Caribbean.
42:08Even though the temperature feels like I could be in Scotland.
42:12Right, my turn.
42:14Well done!
42:18Here goes nothing. A less than five foot Kalman in 50 foot of waterfall.
42:24I'm on the Caribbean!
42:38It has taken my breath away!
42:41Literally!
42:43Next time, my cruise of a lifetime takes me down under.
42:54As I explore Australia, a country I've always dreamed of travelling to.
43:00Look at that cave.
43:02From the scenery to the wildlife.
43:04Is that a kangaroo?
43:05I make memories and friends I'll never forget.
43:09Awaken the aromas.
43:10Yes, awaken them.
43:11That's it!
43:12That's it.
43:13That's it.
