00:01I'm Susan Kalman. I've been to some amazing places on cruise ships.
00:07There are two wheels just up ahead.
00:09But this time...
00:10Come on, come on.
00:11I want to take you on some truly unforgettable globe-trotting adventures.
00:15The best cup of tea in the world.
00:16I think so.
00:17These are my bucket list cruises to beat all others.
00:20Ready me!
00:21Hooray!
00:23To parts of the world you only ever dream about.
00:26That is quite some view, I would say.
00:29Aboard every kind of ship. Some huge.
00:32Goes on for miles.
00:34Some smaller.
00:35The captain already to escort me on board.
00:38Personally.
00:39So pack your suitcase and your passport.
00:43And join me sailing the high seas.
00:45Yes!
00:47And you could end up here.
00:48Sort of spiritual, isn't it?
00:50Or here.
00:51The stunning sunset.
00:53Or even here.
00:55Welcome on board my cruise of a lifetime.
00:58Here's the cruise.
01:07This time...
01:08I want to dance with him!
01:10I'm sailing around Greece and the beautiful Aegean Sea, as I time travel through these hugely popular destinations.
01:17I've walked off a cruise ship and now I'm in ancient history.
01:22From the earliest cities in Turkey to lunar landscapes in Greece.
01:27I honestly don't think I have ever been anywhere more beautiful for a swim in my life.
01:31I uncover the real jewels in this part of the world, and like Shirley Valentine before me, rediscover the old me.
01:40Oh, I don't need to strike this!
01:48Thank you so much.
01:49Oh, wow.
01:50This is interesting.
01:51I'm starting my adventure around Greece and Turkey by travelling 210 metres through Mount Lycavatos.
02:02Oh, the theatre of the lights!
02:05In search of the best view of the ancient capital of Greece.
02:08Beautiful, gorgeous Athens.
02:19And isn't it looking stupendous?
02:22I can't stop smiling, to be honest, because this is just the most incredible place to just take in the vastness of Athens.
02:40It is huge!
02:48Over there, that's the Olympic Stadium.
02:52And then the Temple of Zeus is just there.
02:55And then over there, and I can spot a cruise ship, that is the port where I'll be leaving from.
03:01But I'm in no hurry at all.
03:03Because, I mean, this is just somewhere you've got to take in.
03:07This is everything.
03:10It's also the perfect spot to set out my ambition for the cruise.
03:17One of the best ways to see the Aegean is, of course, on a cruise ship.
03:22But I'll tell you something, it's very, very popular.
03:25I'm going to some of the most visited places on the planet.
03:29So my challenge is to balance the iconic with the Trancor.
03:34I'm going to try and find places slightly off the beaten path, while still ticking those incredible boxes.
03:42I am up for that challenge.
03:45Is anyone of a fan?
03:48Is anyone of a fan?
03:51If you've holidayed here before, you might feel like you already know Greece and Turkey.
03:56But with hundreds of islands spread across the Aegean Sea, there's so much to explore.
04:01Time to meet my ship!
04:03Here she is! Now she may not be the biggest, but that means she can go places others can't.
04:08Remind you of anyone?
04:09Today I'll be joining over 1,200 passengers.
04:15Hello! Hi!
04:17For a seven-night voyage around the Aegean.
04:20Once I've checked in...
04:23Have a lovely time on board!
04:24Thank you, see you later on! Bye!
04:26It's straight on board my home for the week!
04:30Hello!
04:31Hello!
04:32Hi!
04:33Woo!
04:34Good morning!
04:35Good morning!
04:36Yes, thank you!
04:37Good morning!
04:38Is it me?
04:39Yes!
04:40It's me!
04:41Yes, that's me!
04:42Thank you!
04:43From Athens, we'll sail overnight to Greece's second biggest city, Thessaloniki.
04:48We'll then head east, docking at the Turkish coastal town of Kushadasi.
04:52Leaving Turkey, we'll continue our Aegean adventure to the Greek islands of Santorini, Mykonos and Milos before returning to Athens.
05:02But before all that, I like to check out my decks!
05:07I always treat the first view of a cabin like a holiday advent calendar.
05:13You don't know what's behind the door.
05:15Of one.
05:26First things first, it's lovely and cool in here because it is quite warm outside.
05:31On the bed here, lots of information, I'll have a good read of that later on, but it's your daily programme.
05:36If you don't know the daily programme, you need to read it.
05:38It tells you everything that's happening on the ship.
05:40Oh, this is very, very good.
05:46I mean, smashing.
05:48We've got loads of mirrors, loads of storage, loads of wardrobes.
05:52And this is also quite convenient because I can take a bit of a moment and just have a word with myself.
05:58Get a grip, Kalman. There's still plenty to see.
06:03Oh, my goodness. This is extraordinary. I mean, I have to say, I love a cruise with a balcony, a balkon.
06:13And we're going to some of the most beautiful places in the world.
06:18And I have the best seat in the house.
06:22No time to rest. I'm being drawn back up on deck.
06:32It's sail away time and the party's already started, so I've got to get a move on.
06:39The fizz is flowing.
06:41Thank you very much.
06:43You're welcome.
06:47And it looks like every single passenger is up for a good time.
06:51Ladies and gentlemen, I want to dance with him.
06:57I want to dance with him.
06:59Ladies and gentlemen, because we're in Greece, we want you to feel a Greek authentic experience.
07:04Whoo!
07:05Whoo!
07:17Once we've mastered the basics, we're off.
07:23And cruise director, Vladimir, has managed to whip us up into a wonderful Greek frenzy.
07:28a frenzy.
07:29Yeah!
07:30That was amazing!
07:31Everyone was holding hands!
07:35As the ship sets sail for the islands, the party steps up a gear and a disco classic
07:45keeps me on the dance floor.
07:47Yes!
07:48That's the one!
07:49That's the one!
07:50Now we're talking.
07:53The shorts keep falling down!
08:00Wardrobe malfunction aside, I'm having a ball!
08:07Just taking a bit of a breath after that excitement because this is going to be some cruise.
08:18Every single day, a different destination.
08:21So I've got to pace myself.
08:24This is a marathon, not a sprint.
08:28Time at sea is a chance to get to know some of my cruise companions.
08:34And while many fellow Brits are looking forward to soaking up some Aegean sunshine, others,
08:39including Lola and her dad Rafa from Spain, are seeking adventure.
08:44We were looking just for a place to spend the whole week, the family.
08:49And this is a good opportunity to know all the different islands only in one week.
08:55Yes.
08:56And every day you are in a different place.
08:57Different place.
08:58So it's very nice.
08:59It's quite a sprint this cruise.
09:00Are you ready for it?
09:01I think it's fine.
09:02I mean you are going to bed every night in a place and when you are waiting up you are
09:06in a different place.
09:07Everything is great.
09:08So there's quite a lot going on.
09:09Are you excited Lola?
09:10I'm so excited.
09:11I'm so looking forward to this week.
09:13Are you sharing a room though?
09:15I am.
09:16Who with?
09:17I'm a mom.
09:18I don't know if I can share a room with my mother.
09:20I have to be honest with you.
09:21It's going good.
09:22You're just so excited about everything.
09:24I'm really excited.
09:25It's our first day.
09:26Why this?
09:27I'll meet you in the last day and see how you're doing.
09:29How are you?
09:33Coming up, I'm on the bridge to witness a navigational master class.
09:40Here's the pilot.
09:41He jumped on like Tom Cruise, didn't he?
09:44I'm in control.
09:46And an ancient blockbuster in Kushidasi seduces me like Shirley Valentine in a Greek taverna.
09:51I'm going to say it's one of the best days of my life.
09:56I'm on board Celestial Journey.
10:09My home for the week as I sail around the beautiful Aegean Sea.
10:15We departed Athens and are travelling 264 nautical miles north towards Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki.
10:27First proper morning of the cruise.
10:29I've had a lovely sleep.
10:30I feel refreshed and energised and something has happened.
10:34I have received an invitation to the bridge this early on.
10:39Oh, heavens!
10:40It's a real privilege to see things from the bridge.
10:46Especially while the captain and his team carefully manoeuvre over 200 metres of cruise ship into one of the country's busiest ports.
10:55It's a magnificent place.
10:58I mean, it's meant to be like this, the bridge.
11:01It's an incredible view.
11:03But as a passenger, you get to see our destination in a completely different way.
11:09Zero, three, zero.
11:13It's very calm.
11:14The captain is behind.
11:15I've never seen a captain look so captainish in my life.
11:19He's amazing.
11:21I feel like I need to stand like the captain.
11:24This is how you have to stand on a bridge.
11:28And you have to walk like this.
11:29To help the captain navigate these waters, the ship is legally required to allow a pilot on board to manoeuvre safely.
11:42Pilot on the ladder.
11:46Pilot on board.
11:50Here's the pilot.
11:52Here's the pilot.
11:54God, he jumped on like Tom Cruise, didn't he?
11:56I am a pilot.
11:58Come on in.
12:05Imagine being that guy.
12:08Oh, I'm in control.
12:12It's an incredible thing to watch.
12:17So they're getting communications now.
12:19And they're talking in terms of metres.
12:2125 metres clear.
12:23Whereas before it was kilometres.
12:27Stop engines.
12:29Engines are stopped.
12:31One must turn on two.
12:33Rocks will go out.
12:35Tie up the ship safely.
12:37Amazing.
12:39Absolutely amazing.
12:43Before I head ashore, I can't resist grabbing a word with the captain Aguilos.
12:47Captain Aguilos.
12:49Thank you for letting me watch that, Captain.
12:50You're very, very welcome.
12:52Did it go according to plan?
12:54Yes.
12:55Seemed very smooth.
12:57Yes, you're very impressive, Captain.
12:59You're very kind, thank you very much.
13:00No, I want to be more like you.
13:02You have an air of calm authority.
13:05You're very handsome.
13:07I'm a very old man.
13:09Well, old is attractive.
13:11Ah, thank you very much indeed.
13:13See you later on, Captain.
13:15See you later, Susan.
13:16It will be my pleasure.
13:18I'd better quit while I'm ahead.
13:21Besides, Thessaloniki awaits.
13:26It's not as high profile as other Aegean cruising stops.
13:30It's busy.
13:32But since the opening of a new cruise terminal last year, that's changing.
13:36And everyone is keen to see what Greece's second city has to offer.
13:41Why not?
13:44I was busy with it.
13:45Right.
13:48Onwards.
13:50The heart of the city is a mere 15-minute stroll from the terminal,
13:54where I'll be joining my cruise friends for a walking tour.
13:58But before I get my steps in, I've stopped off for a quick caffeine fix.
14:02Hello.
14:03Good morning.
14:04Hello.
14:05That's your Greek coffee.
14:07And that's frappe, which was embedded here in Thessaloniki.
14:10Was it?
14:11Yeah.
14:12Oh, lovely. Thank you so much for that. Enjoy. You're welcome.
14:13Thank you very much.
14:14I've never had a nice coffee.
14:15I found the concept odd.
14:16But I mean, if this is where it was invented, you've got to try it. So let's go.
14:24Right, so let's go.
14:29I mean, it's lovely.
14:30So it tastes delicious and refreshing.
14:33Try it again, Susan.
14:34Give it a second chance.
14:36No, that still needs two minutes in the microwave.
14:40Maybe the food tour will introduce me to some local delights more to my liking.
14:46Now, this is a walking tour of Thessaloniki.
14:50It's a UNESCO-protected place, this,
14:52because it's such a melting pot of different people and culture,
14:59and it's worlden out.
15:00So hopefully on this tour, I'll learn a bit of history,
15:04but also I'll get a bit of...
15:06Our local guide is Pani Otis.
15:12Are you ready to try some food?
15:13Yes.
15:14Yes.
15:16And everyone, including this foodie family, are on my cruise.
15:20This is a very lovely family.
15:23And I feel like I've slightly joined them
15:25as their unexpected daughter,
15:29who's returned from abroad.
15:34As we head to our first food stop,
15:36it's a good time to have a natter with the other people on the tour.
15:40Have you cruised before?
15:42We have.
15:43This would be our third, but this is the best one so far.
15:46Really? Tell me why.
15:47Um, I think the location.
15:49Yeah, smaller ship.
15:50It's a very manageable size, the ship we're on, isn't it?
15:53Yes.
15:54We've arrived at the Agora Modiano Market.
15:58Alongside Greek food, there are culinary influences
16:00from the merchants and immigrants who settled in the city.
16:05Today we're going to try some olive oil.
16:07Yes.
16:08And olives.
16:09Yes.
16:09With some from the beautiful island of Crete.
16:13So this is quite tricky.
16:15I really don't like olives.
16:16At all.
16:17Ever.
16:19I'm going to try it.
16:20But when in Rome, or Thessaloniki?
16:36I don't like it.
16:42I don't like it.
16:43Do you like it?
16:44But I love salty.
16:46It's all salty and green.
16:48It's so perfect.
16:48It's, what do they call it?
16:50Blimey.
16:51Blimey.
16:52Blimey.
16:52Yes.
16:53Blimey.
16:53Blimey.
16:54Even my long-lost Spanish sisters are knocking them back like sweeties.
16:59Did you enjoy the olives?
17:01Did you?
17:02I didn't like them very much.
17:04Oh, I know.
17:06I'm feeling more estranged by the minute.
17:08Next, the olive oil.
17:11It's like drinking wines.
17:12You put it in your mouth like this, and you will do that.
17:16Inhale, take some oxygen.
17:18You can keep it, and after that, you can feel the flavor.
17:22There's always a wee burn, isn't there?
17:23A wee burn.
17:24Yes.
17:25Do you get the wee burn?
17:26You get the wee burn, yeah.
17:28It certainly packs a punch, and that's before we try a shot of Ouzo.
17:33How old are all of you, by the way?
17:34Fourteen.
17:35Three.
17:36Sixteen.
17:36Okay, this is alcohol.
17:39Shall I taste it for you?
17:41Okay.
17:42I don't want to do it, obviously, so.
17:43Is this very alcoholic?
17:45Forty percent alcohol.
17:47Right.
17:47That's a lot of alcohol.
17:49Yamas.
17:50Yamas.
17:51All right, let's try it.
17:57Thanks.
17:58Thanks so much.
17:59That's quite alcoholic.
18:02Don't touch that stuff.
18:04Don't touch it.
18:05Oh, my God.
18:08So far, so full on.
18:10And there's more to come.
18:11I've got this thing in my ear, and I'm connected to the guide's microphone.
18:19So even if you're a little bit behind, you can still hear what he's saying.
18:22Now we turn left.
18:24Oh, here we are.
18:25All right, okay.
18:26And Paniotis has said we're in for a sweet Greek treat.
18:29We call this bugatsa.
18:31Bugatsa.
18:32And this is it.
18:33It's a crispy thing, and the filling inside can either be cheese or something like samolina,
18:40something sweet.
18:42Okay.
18:43Shall we?
18:43I don't know which one's which.
18:51So this is the sweet one.
18:52I think with the semolina, cinnamon, sugar.
18:55It's an explosion of flavor.
18:58Crunchiness, texture, everything.
19:00This is possibly one of the most delicious things I've ever had in my entire life.
19:04Hands down, wonderful.
19:07Good to meet you.
19:07I may have failed to fall in love with olives, but we ended the food tour and our day in Thessaloniki
19:14on a high.
19:19After a good night's sleep, we're heading for Turkey.
19:22And as we aren't due to arrive until midday, it's time for ship tours.
19:29Easy for me to say.
19:30Ship tour time.
19:32Ship tour time.
19:33There's stuff happening all along the ship, and there's a wee salsa lesson happening just
19:42now.
19:43I never got to do salsa on Strictly, because I went out the week before I was meant to do
19:48it.
19:49Oh my goodness, he knows what he's doing, doesn't he?
19:51I think I might step out on this one.
19:53Yeah, yeah.
19:54It's not for me.
19:57But on every cruise ship, there's one place you don't want to miss.
20:01Usually, on a buffet, there's two sides, and each side is absolutely identical.
20:06I discovered last night, each side on this buffet is not identical.
20:11I realized that when I saw someone with a plate of food I did not recognize.
20:15So this is intriguing.
20:16This is challenging.
20:18You have to do a full loop of the buffet to make sure you don't miss out.
20:25Okay.
20:26Now, that has never happened before in my life.
20:31That was astonishing.
20:31It was right there waiting for me.
20:33Honestly, when does that happen?
20:36Right, we're going to deck eight.
20:36I'm sweating because that's such a...
20:38Deck eight.
20:41Okay, deck eight.
20:42Just checking them out.
20:43So we're here.
20:44The amphitheater and the show lounges over there.
20:47It's a bit quiet just now because it is in the morning and everyone's having breakfast.
20:50But let's go and have a look.
20:58Just trying to blow my own trumpet.
21:03There is a lot going on in deck eight.
21:05And I know that right now there is a napkin folding demonstration happening.
21:11I always get very impressed when I go to someone's house and they've folded the napkin properly.
21:14I'll pick up some tips later on.
21:17Hello.
21:18Hi.
21:18And if you're keen to find out what you can do when the ship docks, head to deck seven.
21:25Before you come on a cruise, you'll get lots of information and you might decide to book
21:28your excursions in advance.
21:29If you haven't, you pop down here, you ask what's available and off you go.
21:34We've arrived at the Turkish resort of Kushidasi, just over 18 nautical miles from the Greek
21:42island of Samos.
21:43It's increasingly popular with Aegean cruises.
21:46So in my quest to discover the unusual, I'm heading inland for a history fix.
21:52This place is incredibly busy.
21:55And there's a reason for that because it's a huge deal.
21:59This is Ephesus and it's incredibly important to Greek history.
22:03And I know you're thinking, hang on a second, Susan.
22:06You're talking about Greek history and you're in Turkey.
22:07I know that.
22:08But back in the 10th century BC, the coast around here was ruled by the ancient Greeks.
22:14And Ephesus was the most important city.
22:17It was visited by people like Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra.
22:22I'm jumping through centuries.
22:23I'm absolutely aware.
22:24But you get the idea.
22:26I love history.
22:28And I love reading about history.
22:29But more than that, I love walking through history.
22:32And I cannot wait to see what's in there.
22:37You can just turn up and wander amongst the ruins on your own.
22:46Hello.
22:47Hello.
22:48I'm Susan.
22:48How nice to meet you.
22:50This is Barack.
22:50Nice to meet you too.
22:52But the cruise organised a local guide for me, Barack, who knows Ephesus like the back of his hand.
22:58First of all, that's in Turkish.
23:00Welcome.
23:01Thank you very much indeed.
23:04We'd better get cracking.
23:06We've got a lot of ground to cover.
23:09This was like the upper part of the city with the upper agora.
23:13Yes.
23:14And then?
23:14And then this side of the city is overlooking to the harbour.
23:19The agora was basically the high street where people met, traded and worshipped.
23:24This is, it's like a dream.
23:30It's the most extraordinary thing.
23:32Isn't it?
23:33You can still clearly see the streets and the columns.
23:36The further we walk into the city, the more captivating this experience becomes.
23:45Look at this.
23:46Look at this.
23:48You can see people wandering along it like they would have all those hundreds of years ago.
23:55This was the lower agora, the lower market part of the city.
23:58Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy.
24:01Yes.
24:01Yes.
24:02And it still is.
24:03The busiest place there.
24:08I've walked off a cruise ship and now I'm in the history.
24:13It is just a...
24:14Oh, you're loving this.
24:16You're brilliant.
24:17Oh, yeah.
24:17Come on now.
24:18Where are you taking me?
24:24Somewhere that you just can never imagine finding in the second century AD.
24:28Uh-huh.
24:29That we call the toilets.
24:33Why not?
24:33Come on.
24:34The toilets?
24:35You're taking me to the toilets?
24:38Why not?
24:38Yes, it's the toilets.
24:40It's supposed to be like a social thing to be done together.
24:46No.
24:46No.
24:47What?
24:48They would go to the toilets together.
24:50Don't you see?
24:51Nothing.
24:52I'm going to say something now.
24:53The ancient Greeks had a lot of very good ideas about a lot of things.
24:57But I'm afraid I'm not on board with this.
25:00My goodness me.
25:07Take the steps, please.
25:08Okay.
25:08Not the ramp.
25:09It's very slippery there.
25:10Very slippy.
25:11Yep.
25:11Less than 20% of the city has been excavated so far, and the most complete building is
25:20the impressive Celsus Library.
25:22Look at this.
25:24Look at this.
25:25Oh, my goodness.
25:27Almost 2,000-year-old structure.
25:31Two-story building for almost 12,000 scrolls.
25:35There's the Greek philosophy triggering, math, science, engineering, architecture, everything.
25:40For me, it's the fact they didn't just value education.
25:44They valued it so much.
25:45Yeah.
25:46That they celebrate it.
25:48They build these great buildings to learning.
25:52That's saying education is important.
25:53Knowledge is important.
25:55Everywhere you look, there's something more and more magnificent to see.
26:01This is truly one of the greatest places I've ever been in my life.
26:08I can't thank you enough.
26:10You've been such a brilliant guide.
26:12Honestly, thank you for...
26:13I'm going to say it's one of the best days of my life.
26:16I really appreciate it.
26:17Thank you very much.
26:20This place is quite astonishing, but I think the most astonishing thing about it is
26:24I hadn't heard about it.
26:27I've never heard of this place.
26:28And it is truly one of the most exceptional places I've ever visited.
26:35It unwraps in front of you as you walk through it.
26:39And you can feel what it would have been like to be here centuries ago.
26:44And even more than that, it's the people who've been here.
26:48Cleopatra walked along this street.
26:56And now, so have I.
27:05Coming up, I discover a treasure growing out of the volcanic soil in Santorini.
27:10It's a strong little tomato.
27:12It's a strong little tomato.
27:15And in Mykonos, we're staying out past bedtime.
27:18This means I have to be back on board at half past one in the morning.
27:22I can last that long.
27:23My cruise around the Aegean has uncovered a whole new side to some familiar destinations.
27:42After leaving the Turkish port of Kusadasi, I'm hoping to discover the secrets of Santorini.
27:48We then travel to the birthplace of Shirley Valentine's reawakening, Mykonos,
27:54before exploring our final island, Milos.
27:59It's quite early in the morning.
28:01And I've come out onto the balcony to watch the ship approach my next destination, Santorini.
28:06And it is absolutely beautiful.
28:09It's also very, very busy.
28:12Which is why I'm going somewhere a little bit different.
28:15Going to bespoke, calm and holiday, if you will.
28:20Every year, over three million people visit this classic Greek island.
28:26Its crystal clear waters and white cubed houses,
28:29perched precariously on the steep cliffs,
28:32create one of the most iconic coastlines of the Aegean.
28:36While some flock to the picturesque towns,
28:39I'm exploring this desert-like landscape in search of a surprising Santorini gem.
28:45This volcanic island may not look like the obvious place to grow world-class tomatoes,
28:51but thanks largely to this man and fellow tomato lover, Anna, it is.
28:55It's so lovely to meet you.
28:57It just feels so beautiful here.
29:00A lot of people come to Santorini.
29:02And they all love tomatoes.
29:04They all love...
29:04Well, everyone loves tomatoes, don't they?
29:06Not even an earthquake in 1956 that nearly wiped out the industry
29:12could stop the tough little tomatoes from growing here.
29:16The product, I call it the cherry on top of a cake.
29:20It's a sweet cherry tomato.
29:22Like you.
29:23Like a mermaid.
29:25I love cherry tomatoes.
29:28Could we take a walk out into the fields and have a look at some of the plants?
29:32Is that okay?
29:32Brilliant.
29:33We'll go this way then.
29:34Lovely.
29:35Since the late 90s, Petros has poured his heart and soul into nurturing these feisty little
29:42fruits.
29:43And his secret is in the island's volcanic soil, which has pumice in it, like the pumice stone
29:48you use on your feet.
29:51During the summer, there is a humidity that stays.
29:54The soil, the pumice, absorbs everything and gives that water back to the plants during
29:58the day.
29:59That is astonishing, Lou.
30:00Yes.
30:00Isn't nature such an incredible, brilliant thing?
30:04That that is what gives the moisture to the plant.
30:08He calls it the caviar tomato.
30:13The caviar tomato.
30:14Can I try it?
30:16Yes.
30:16I'm doing it like I'm playing cricket.
30:18It's really very clean, nothing, no pesticides.
30:20No pesticides.
30:21It's just the dust from the soil.
30:25But if you pay attention to what you eat, you have that explosion of taste in your palate.
30:29And actually, the skin is really thick.
30:31It is thicker.
30:33Growing the plant in such a difficult environment, you don't have water, you have strong sun,
30:38you have wind.
30:39It's a strong little tomato.
30:40It's a strong little tomato.
30:43So that's why you have such a good quality on it.
30:47Delicious.
30:48Delicious.
30:51What would be lovely is if we could maybe pick some and do something with it.
30:55Is that okay?
30:56Yes, please.
30:57Right.
30:58I'll be the tomato holder.
30:59Look at that, beautiful, beautiful.
31:02They're like little rubies in the dust, these tomatoes.
31:06They stand out so much.
31:09I've got the smallest hands in the world.
31:11Why am I the one that's holding all the tomatoes?
31:12Oh, there are some beautiful here.
31:14Oh, my goodness.
31:15Right.
31:15Okay.
31:15Okay.
31:18Thank you very much.
31:20Ha-ha!
31:21I have a pouch for tomatoes.
31:24Stick them in.
31:25There you go.
31:25There we go.
31:26Is that okay?
31:27Yes, perfect.
31:28Right.
31:28You lead the way and I'll follow with my tomato pouch.
31:31Right.
31:31I've got to be careful I don't drop my tomatoes.
31:35As luck would have it, Petra's son is a chef and has rustled up lunch with tomatoes aplenty.
31:43Okay.
31:44Oh, you were very good.
31:45I can tell already.
31:47There we are.
31:48Beautiful.
31:48Thank you very much indeed.
31:50What do you say?
31:52Bon appetit.
31:52Cariorics.
31:53The tomato fritters are amazing.
31:56Everything is so beautiful.
31:58Do you like it?
31:59It is wonderful.
32:01I mean, I think it's partly the company.
32:03This is the most delicious meal.
32:05Thank you for cooking this for us.
32:06You are welcome.
32:07Thank you very much indeed.
32:08And it is absolutely stunning in every single way.
32:12Okay.
32:13I mean, if you force one on me, I'll have another one.
32:15I don't think I could be happier right now on this beautiful island with these wonderful people.
32:25After a tomato-filled morning, I've ventured to the capital of Santorini, Fira.
32:31I can see why people dream of coming here, the dream of getting married here, of just spending time looking at how beautiful it is.
32:42In this sunshine, surrounded by this gorgeous scenery, anything seems possible.
32:52And in my quest to find more unusual ways to spend my time on this hugely popular island,
32:58I'm heading for a safe haven in the heart of the town.
33:02This is heaven for me.
33:04A bookshop is kind of a combination of a second-hand bookshop and new books.
33:09This is the kind of place I love to come on holiday to see what kind of books are on offer.
33:14I wonder what I fancy.
33:15So I could buy some Shakespeare.
33:17Does Shakespeare scream fun on a Greek cruise?
33:20I'm not sure it does.
33:22I mean, I look really intelligent.
33:24Do you do what I do?
33:25Which is look at other people's books and judge them.
33:28Do you do that?
33:28I mean, I don't judge them.
33:30I mean, I judge them a bit.
33:31Atlantis Books has been part of the fabric of this island for more than 20 years.
33:38It's run by Craig from Memphis in Tennessee, who fell in love with the island all those years ago and made his dream a reality.
33:47I was a student.
33:49I was actually studying in England for the year and came here on holiday with a buddy of mine.
33:55And we had everything we needed and then we ran out of books.
33:58Which on the way, stumbling home from dinner one night, I said to my buddy, I said, we should open a bookshop here.
34:02And he said, Atlantis Books.
34:04And I said, that's a terrible name, but we'll come up with a better one eventually.
34:07Welcome to Atlantis Books.
34:09Welcome to Atlantis Books.
34:09Welcome to Atlantis Books.
34:09Welcome to Atlantis Books.
34:10Welcome to Atlantis Books.
34:11Yeah.
34:11It was a perfect luxury to put in a luxurious place, right?
34:17I mean, this is a wondrous place.
34:19As a vista, it doesn't get much better than this.
34:24So browse around in a bookshop is often a luxury.
34:28They're on holiday and this is what they work hard so they have this moment to do it.
34:32So I'm going to make it as pleasant and welcoming and user-friendly and memorable as possible.
34:38It's magnificent.
34:40It is triumphant.
34:42And you lived your dream.
34:44And it's wonderful.
34:45What a magical place Craig and his team have created on this very special island.
34:54As the sun sets, people are gathering in the neighbouring town of Ia to capture the spectacular view.
35:02People come to Santorini for lots of different reasons.
35:06But one thing everyone wants to see is this.
35:09The stunning sunset.
35:11Now if you go just along there, there are literally hundreds of people in the same spot trying to get a photograph.
35:18I've found somewhere a little bit quieter that's just right for me.
35:22After a late departure from Santorini, the ship sails overnight to the island of Mykonos.
35:30Finally, I've reached the island where in the late 80s, Shirley Valentine, they discovered herself.
35:39And I wonder what it has in store for me.
35:42I was asking some young people I met what they thought of Mykonos, and all they knew about it was it was a party time.
35:50You know, people come here to have a good time.
35:53And it made me think, well, what would Shirley Valentine do if she was here now?
35:59Now, I think she would go for it.
36:04And that is what I'm going to do.
36:08Today, Mykonos is the Aegean's cosmopolitan beating heart, where glamorous beach bars and clubs line the shores.
36:16So to make the most of the opportunity to rediscover ourselves, we're all being allowed to stay out late.
36:21This means I have to be back on board at half past one in the morning.
36:25I can last that long.
36:29It's the afternoon, and the partying has already started.
36:34Clubbing has changed since my time.
36:37Nowadays, the beach clubs start early, and the dancing is in the daylight.
36:42I'm going to let you into a little bit of my world now.
36:46It's been over a decade since I was at a nightclub, discotheque.
36:52But every morning, I put dance tracks on my phone, pair of headphones on, and I dance in my kitchen.
37:00I do it every single morning.
37:02Really loud, thumping dance music.
37:05Because I used to go clubbing quite a lot, but I don't anymore.
37:08What I'm going to do is I'm going to try and channel the energy of Dancing Susan in the Kitchen to this club here.
37:15And I'm going to give it all I've got.
37:17Kitchen Susan is out for the night.
37:20And she's not going back to that shit till she's done.
37:28Coming up, I rediscover my inner clubber as cruise director Vladimir shows me some new moves in Mykonos.
37:39Oh, I didn't expect this.
37:42And I enjoy a chilled after-party glow on the island of Mykonos.
37:46I honestly don't think I have ever been anywhere more beautiful for a swim in my life.
37:51It's mid-afternoon in Mykonos, and along the beach, the partying has started.
38:05And I'm ready to rediscover my inner clubber and have my own Shirley Valentine moment.
38:10It sounds like the party is well and truly going on, so let's head on in and see what it's like, yeah?
38:17Come on, Kitchen Susan, you can do it!
38:19I can't believe it's only tea time, and they're dancing like it's 1999.
38:34The DJ's working the crowd, and everyone's lapping up the party vibes.
38:38Time to step out of my kitchen comfort zone and regain my clubbing confidence.
38:47And just as I get on down, who should pop up?
38:51In him! Stop here!
38:54Would you believe it?
38:55My friend Vladimir, the cruise director, is here, keen to strut his stuff on his afternoon off.
39:01Oh, I didn't expect this!
39:03Everyone's having a ball, and Mykonos is certainly giving me a day to remember.
39:12Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
39:17Kitchen Susan is in the house.
39:23After another overnight sail, we've arrived at our final island on this Aegean tour, Milos.
39:28It boasts more than 70 beaches around its shores, but I want to head to just one of them.
39:37I think I've done pretty well this holiday, finding unusual places to go.
39:41But if you'll excuse me, on my last day, I'm going to do something quite obvious,
39:46because I can't come here without going to the beach.
39:49I'm all prepared, and I've got my swimming costume on underneath my clothes, like Superman.
39:55To the beach!
39:56And I'm not just looking for any old beach.
39:59To complete my mission to uncover the unexpected, it has to be perfect.
40:04Now, I don't mean to doubt the information I've been given,
40:07but I was told that one of the best beaches you can possibly find is around here,
40:10but this seems like a car park.
40:12Maybe it's over here.
40:15Ah!
40:17Look at that!
40:18That is spectacular.
40:23That's the kind of little hidden gem I've been looking for.
40:27All I need to do now is find out how to get there.
40:32Milos is a volcanic island, and the beach at Saracanico was created by the wind and waves
40:38gently eroding the volcanic rock.
40:40Walking down to the beach is the most extraordinary experience, because it is so bright, and it's
40:49kind of a lunar landscape that's unfolding.
40:53And then, as I come down on a crater of the moon, there are people jumping into the sea.
40:58And when the water looks this inviting, I can't wait to join them.
41:04Woo!
41:05I honestly, honestly don't think I have ever been anywhere more beautiful for a swim in my life.
41:12Oh, it is the most beautiful water.
41:21This is how you have to swim when you're here.
41:23Because you're looking all the way around, all the time, at everything that's happening.
41:30You don't need to do lengths here.
41:32This is about taking it all in.
41:34The experience, the swimming's the bonus.
41:38The view is what you come for.
41:45I think I might just keep going and swim back to the ship.
41:48Once safely back on board, I've time to reflect on my Aegean adventure.
41:56I thought I knew what I was in for, you know, recognisable places, lots of excursions.
42:02But actually, even more brilliantly, I've been surprised at every turn.
42:09I have stood next to the most incredible historical monument you can imagine.
42:18I have visited a volcanic island and I have swum in the most beautiful bay.
42:26The destinations have come at me thick and fast.
42:31But I'm not even out of breath.
42:33In fact, I would like to go round again.
42:37I am just staying right here.
42:40Next time, I'm on a mega ship living the high life.
42:49Literally.
42:50This is the highest you can get on the ship.
42:54When I'm off to beautiful Barbados.
42:58I'm suitably stunned by St Lucia.
43:01You had to take my breath away.
43:03And party on board with an incredible 6,000 passengers.
43:08Look at us.
43:08The secret is chocolate, exactly.
43:39He is a dim school.
43:41He is all about everything.
43:41You are having to keep it home.
43:42You are biologically muffin.
43:43That works at somebody else.
43:44He is all about everything, we want to look the leather from you.
43:45Not to~~~~
43:49And I am standing in your room with a Wìž–ì•„.
43:53You are fully ready for the T-shirt.
43:55Find yourself in a drawback.
43:58Can you see a cure in the market and me make them a далrait né?
44:02So yeah And keep finding out.
44:02Okay.
44:03See other events.
44:04Cool.
44:04So
44:05Everyone seems like to go in too late.
44:06So,
44:07we again look concerned about everything,
