00:01Do you want to know a secret?
00:03Us Brits love the costas.
00:06We are Spies!
00:08We are sun worshippers.
00:10Loads of fun.
00:11Cat's out of the bag now, Linda.
00:13But it really is.
00:14And with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:18it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a lie.
00:23Living that dream can be blooming hard graft.
00:26Misty!
00:27My left, you're right.
00:29Stress level.
00:30Through the roof.
00:32But at the end of the working day...
00:34Girl power.
00:35Girl power, come on Sam.
00:36Forward.
00:37Booyah!
00:38The quality of life on the costas...
00:40I did it!
00:43...is priceless.
00:45Peace and love, cheers.
00:47That's why there will always be...
00:49Hold your horses.
00:51Easy go on.
00:52She floats in the weather.
00:53Sun sees Sam, what more could you ask for?
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
00:59Today on the costas...
01:02Singer Nikki has a big gig, but an even bigger worry.
01:06Where is everybody? None of my costs are here yet.
01:08Bar owner Steve struggles to call last orders for the final time.
01:12My only worry is, the day after I've handed the keys over, I don't want to turn around and go, I'll have her done the right thing.
01:18And Ant's plan for a winter nest egg isn't plain sailing.
01:21So at the moment there's 14 tickets left to sell.
01:24I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really would like them to sell.
01:28I'm gonna go and make you some breakfast, alright?
01:41Yeah.
01:42What would you like?
01:43Would you like some toast?
01:44Got any jam?
01:45Right.
01:46Time for the most important meal of the day in Oriwella Costa.
01:49This would be the fun bit, is getting Stephen to open the packet.
01:53Singer Nikki G lives with her partner, Ollie.
01:56His kids, Rosanna and Stephen.
01:59You want to make Daddy a coffee?
02:00Oh, there we go.
02:01This is when it all starts.
02:02Kids, go on then.
02:03And Nikki's mum, Carol.
02:05Here, Mum, I've got your toast.
02:06Oh, lovely.
02:07And a nice cup of tea.
02:08And a nice cup of tea.
02:09And a nice cup of tea.
02:10It's a full house.
02:11Are you hungry?
02:12Me?
02:13No, not you, the dogs.
02:15But Nikki wouldn't have it any other way.
02:18Alright, you alright there?
02:20Family means everything to me over here.
02:23I adore my family and it was when I lost my dad that that kind of changed everything for me.
02:30So I put my mum first in front of everything that I do over here at the moment.
02:35Nikki has to juggle family life with the bright lights at the Costa Blanca stages.
02:40So yeah, I've got to make sure I've got all the costumes ready.
02:45She's been performing in Spain for 15 years and is currently starring in an extra special weekly show.
02:52I have to say that this has been the best show that I think I've put together.
02:55So I've got my pink ladies jackets, my wigs.
02:59Shoes, costumes, two wigs for a beauty school dropout which is Frenchies.
03:08And look at me on Sandra Dee.
03:10This is my little prop.
03:12Tell me more.
03:14I think I'm most at home when I'm on stage.
03:16I love performing and it doesn't matter to me whether I've got ten people in the audience or ten thousand people in the audience.
03:22These are the leather trousers for Sandy in the end that go with the wig.
03:28It's a combination of all this stuff from Dirty Dancing and the movie Grease.
03:31And I have three to four female dancers and one male dancer.
03:36And then we recreate the magic of both the movies.
03:39Perfect.
03:40Nobody puts Nicky in the corner.
03:43I absolutely love this show.
03:44It's so much fun working with all the cast.
03:46And tonight's Dirty Grease show is extra special.
03:49It's in memory of her close friend Stevie who passed away recently.
03:54This was us as the Broadway babies which was Stevie, myself and Kylie Bagazzi.
04:00That's a really lovely photo.
04:01That's probably the last big picture we had together on stage.
04:06I worked with him for over 15 years on various shows here in Spain.
04:10And he is like a brother to me.
04:14One of my closest friends.
04:16Hope you enjoy the show this evening collectively known as Fusion.
04:27Since he died Nicky's been secretly fundraising for a local cancer charity in Stevie's honour.
04:32Are you looking forward to tonight, big night?
04:35Yeah, no I am looking forward to it.
04:37It's sad though but I'm looking forward to it.
04:39So this evening we'll be presenting Maria from the Pink Ladies with a cheque for 1,500 euros.
04:45It's going to be a great show.
04:47You know it's going to be a great show.
04:48It's always a great show.
04:49Nicky's determined tonight's performance will do Stevie's memory proud.
04:53I find that when I go out to perform it's an actual break from the house and everything that I do here.
04:59So it's going to be a real release tonight and just a chance to let everything go tonight on the stage.
05:04And everyone has the time of their lives.
05:15Is this going to be a romantic afternoon?
05:22You can make it as romantic as you want.
05:24Oh no, don't go so far.
05:26Just a little walk will do.
05:28Someone's in the mood for a mooch on the Costa Blanca.
05:31Got a treat?
05:33Married couple Steve and Mandy swapped Hull for Quesada eight years ago.
05:38Don't move.
05:41Here he is.
05:43This is Silla with her pom-pom hair.
05:45That's a lot, a lot of hair, Chuck.
05:47She's a very fussy little girl, aren't you?
05:49The lovebirds came to the Costa Blanca to retire and take it easy.
05:53Oh, what a life.
05:55A dog's life.
05:57We'd never been to this area before from day one.
06:00We kind of fell in love with it.
06:02Let's go for a little walk.
06:04A little ride in your pram.
06:06Back in Hull, the couple, married 34 years, worked their socks off, running a furniture distribution business.
06:12He would have scared them when he said walk, but it looked all right when he said pram.
06:16We both worked.
06:18We built a business up in the UK.
06:19We both worked really hard for a lot of years.
06:21And we just said, well, why are we carrying on?
06:23You know, when we can just sit back and relax and kind of think of our health.
06:30No stress.
06:31That's the biggest thing.
06:32That's the thing.
06:33No stress.
06:34But it's not quite worked out that way.
06:36Two euros, please.
06:37How you?
06:38How you doing?
06:39Steve only went and bought a bar.
06:41We've always loved the bar.
06:43We were regulars in there.
06:45There you go.
06:46Thank you, Neil.
06:48I asked him how much I wanted for it.
06:51And I shook his hand there and then I said, yeah, we'll have it.
06:54There you go, sir.
06:55There you go.
06:56Thank you, Neil.
06:57As for experience, no, I've never had no experience.
07:00Total different business to what I had in the UK.
07:04And running a bar in Spain is even busier than a furniture business in Hull.
07:09Chile and rice?
07:10Is this real, sir?
07:11Yes.
07:12Thank you, Neil.
07:13I like to stand at the back and if I'm looking and the bar's full and people are happy, it's a sense of achievement.
07:19Recently, Steve and Mandy had a wake-up call reminding them why they came to Spain in the first place.
07:26Eight months ago, I got diagnosed with a heart condition and high blood pressure.
07:31So I'm now on medication and I have to take it a little bit easier.
07:35Maybe a cup of tea.
07:36Do you want a cup of tea?
07:37Well, it'll be the first time ever, but go on then.
07:39Be a barber.
07:40So Steve's giving up the bar he loves so much.
07:43Deal's done.
07:44The bar's going.
07:46It's time I've got to put ourselves first, especially Mandy with her health issues.
07:56She's my priority now.
07:58At least from now following the doctor's orders to take it a bit easier.
08:03Next stage of our lives.
08:05Can't wait.
08:06Can't come quick enough.
08:08The couple can finally embrace retirement in the sun.
08:11So well done on our hard work for the last three years.
08:15And good team.
08:16Happy retirement.
08:17They've sold the pub to their barmaid, Lisa.
08:20The only snag.
08:21You never know what to expect after a busy night.
08:25Is that Steve's struggling to say goodbye to his beloved watering hole.
08:30So let's start making the place look bonnie.
08:33He's meant to be spending the day with Mandy.
08:36Today's plan is I'll get the clean done.
08:40And then Lisa's coming up.
08:42We're going to have a bit of a talk.
08:46We'll just go through kind of the day-to-day runnings of the bar.
08:51But it looks like the bar might still be number one.
08:54I brought me through.
08:56Coming up.
08:59Performer Nikki's trying to put her nerves aside before tonight's big show.
09:05In third place with 76 points.
09:09And?
09:10Come on then you last.
09:12And hoping his magical mystery tour will make a splash.
09:15Just to cool you down a bit.
09:19No don't go.
09:20I didn't say go.
09:21I said stay where you are.
09:22The Costa del Sol has been a slightly livelier place recently.
09:24Left.
09:25My left.
09:26You're right.
09:27Right.
09:28Right.
09:29Skelmersdale lad Ant has upped sticks to help sell homes of expats looking to live the dream in the Spanish sun.
09:47Okay.
09:48How are you going to drive it?
09:49Well I've not worked that out yet.
09:51But for over a decade.
09:52Come on get them off.
09:54And was a familiar face on the Costa Blanca.
09:56You're supposed to go out full of energy not knackered.
10:00Whether he's helping to keep the more mature residents in shape.
10:04Looks like Benadon pride.
10:06Or throwing them a knees up.
10:08Yellow again Lulu.
10:09Goes with your top and your teeth.
10:11He's become a big part of the community.
10:14I never thought that some of my best friends would be 70 and 80 years of age.
10:20Rosemary.
10:21We love you very very much.
10:22I think most of us would be lost without you.
10:24There you go Matt.
10:25We are.
10:26I just feel so fortunate because I've got about 200 grandmothers.
10:31That must be expensive at Christmas.
10:34And we're going back to 2020.
10:36When Ant was preparing for those colder days.
10:39Here you see you've got to make haywire the sun shines.
10:43And when the winter comes you earning potentials decrease by about 90%.
10:47So for me I have to do as much as I can in the summer to generate the pennies.
10:52To get through winter.
10:54And this busy bee has a plan to try and keep the wolves from the door.
10:58I come up with the magic mystery tours a few years ago.
11:01And it's just a chance to get all the women together and take them somewhere different.
11:04Come on I'm free.
11:05You're knacker now aren't you.
11:08My clients other than known the theme is water.
11:12Have absolutely no idea where they're going and what I'm going to be doing to them.
11:17God help them.
11:18I dread to think Ant.
11:20To keep the coach trip cheap.
11:22Have a lovely weekend everyone.
11:23Ant's doing all the prep.
11:25The best way to keep the costs down is for me to make the pack lunches myself.
11:30Egg mayo surprise.
11:32He's already forked out 530 euros on the coach and catering.
11:37That's the way to do it.
11:39He's charging 20 euros a pop.
11:42So to break even he needs at least 27 people to turn up for the tour.
11:46Look at these sandwiches I tell you what.
11:49They're that classy.
11:50These are the likes that they have at the Ritz.
11:52I think they serve cucumber sandwiches at the Ritz.
11:55Oh oh oh oh.
11:58Now let's just hope enough people have shown up.
12:02I've got 22 at the moment.
12:04There's about another 12 or 13 people to turn up.
12:07Fingers crossed.
12:08You're about 90 euros short as it stands.
12:10Where are we going on this mystery tour?
12:12I'm not telling you to miss the way.
12:15Oh I don't want to go to a mud bath.
12:17I hope it's not that.
12:18Oh I don't know Elena.
12:19I hear it's very good for the skin.
12:21Tune out.
12:22Come on Ant.
12:23Surely you can tell us where we're going.
12:24We won't say a word.
12:25We're going to be going to Cali Capitan.
12:27And we're also going to be going to the mud baths.
12:30Don't let them air me though.
12:31They'll be murdered if they know where we're going.
12:33Well I'll let you break that bit of news.
12:35With the stragglers aboard and Ant's Winter Fund finally in profit.
12:39We're off.
12:40So does anyone know where we're going today?
12:44No.
12:45Oh fantastic.
12:46I don't know that I've not got a bloody cloud.
12:50Let's hope they're as happy as pigs in mud when they find out.
12:55Even Elaine.
12:56You ready to go mini golf?
13:02Yeah.
13:03Back in Oruella.
13:04Today's the day.
13:05We could win 200 euros.
13:07Woo.
13:08Before Nicky's big show in memory of her best mate Stevie tonight.
13:11Are you up for mini golf mum?
13:13Oh yeah.
13:14She's getting the family together for some quality time.
13:17Are you ready to rock and roll?
13:19Oh yeah.
13:20And to distract her from any nerves before her huge gig this evening.
13:25Every other weekend we try and spend some quality time together as a family.
13:29That looks quite busy.
13:31A few years ago it would have been a lot easier.
13:33There would have been more trips to the beach.
13:34There would have been more day trips.
13:35But it's very limited now with looking after my mum.
13:38How about that?
13:40We find it very difficult to plan holidays now.
13:43Time away.
13:44Even doing the simplest task going to the shops now has to be planned.
13:48Alright guys here we go.
13:50We want a clean game.
13:52No cheating.
13:53Why is everyone looking at me?
13:55So we try and get as much time together if it's not in the house locally so we don't have
14:00to do too much travelling at the moment.
14:02Back a bit.
14:03Back a bit.
14:04Back a bit.
14:05Hey.
14:06In for three.
14:07Oh.
14:08Tonight's grease and dirty dancing show is in honour of Stevie.
14:14Bit emotional sorry.
14:16I have to say Stevie really gave me an opportunity in Spain.
14:20Oh scuffed it.
14:23It's still very hard to believe he's not really here.
14:26I'm expecting him to pick up the phone and ask me what if I'm free on a date to do some
14:31work to do this performance tonight and be able to present a check to a cancer charity
14:36means so much to me tonight.
14:37The Oriwella Open is a welcome distraction.
14:40Yeah I'm just going to take a few minutes break and go and check on mum.
14:43As much as I spend a lot of time with my mum it's nice to spend time with mum outside of the house.
14:47It feels so much more different when we're here.
14:50We're playing mini golf.
14:51Yeah.
14:52Ollie is last.
14:53Oh dear he won't like that.
14:54No he won't like that at all.
14:56Perfect.
14:57Here we go.
14:58Nice cup of tea.
14:59Nice cup of tea.
15:04And with the game done.
15:06In third place with 76 points.
15:10Steven.
15:11Yay!
15:12Good job.
15:13It's not about the placements it's about the fun.
15:15I believe you Steven.
15:16Thousands wouldn't.
15:17So in first place with a total score of 57 is...
15:23Ollie!
15:24Yay!
15:25So it's nice to see everyone enjoying themselves and to have a bit of quiet time before the chaos
15:37of later.
15:38Well done.
15:39Cheers.
15:40Cheers.
15:41Well that chaos is upon us Nicky.
15:42With the clock ticking it's time to make a move.
15:44Cheers guys.
15:45See you later.
15:47And do Stevie proud.
15:50Right.
15:51Let's go to work.
15:52We don't work together now.
16:07But I wish I could turn the clock back to these happy times when we all work together.
16:15In this picture is my husband John, my daughter Laura and me.
16:20I didn't really recognise myself because I look a lot younger.
16:27It would have been at the end of a busy day on a match day.
16:31So we probably won that day because we all look very happy and I think we're ready to
16:37get stuck into a few drinks to celebrate maybe.
16:45They were very happy times when we all worked together.
16:56Morning Steve.
16:57Morning.
16:58You're late.
16:59In Quesada.
17:00Not on the clock yet.
17:01Did you have a heavy night?
17:02I had a rough night last night.
17:03Steve that's your fault.
17:04Yorkshireman Steve is supposed to be handing over his beloved bar to new owner Lisa.
17:09Did you want to pop in for the one?
17:11What one doesn't?
17:13Yeah.
17:14Stepping back.
17:15It's going to be different getting up in the morning and thinking what we're going to
17:20do today.
17:21But deep down grafter Steve knows he has no choice.
17:24My wife was diagnosed with a heart condition.
17:29Although she says that she's fine but I said we'll take a backward step now.
17:36It's time.
17:37Having to go of the reins is proving a bit of a challenge.
17:40My only worry is the day after I've handed the keys over I don't want to turn around
17:44and go I'll have done the right thing.
17:47When we're finished with the bar the first thing we're going to do is we're going to do
17:51a bit of travelling.
17:52This is my bible Steve so you know I like to write everything down.
17:56And then once we've done all that we might buy another bar or something.
18:02I don't think so.
18:03That's a bit too soon Steve.
18:05Too soon.
18:06But the main thing is can you pull a pint?
18:08Better than you.
18:09Oh come on then.
18:11Challenge accepted.
18:12Keep it on the tilt.
18:17Make sure we get ahead.
18:20There you go.
18:23Perfect.
18:24Move over.
18:25Oh dear.
18:26I don't think there's any competition there Steve.
18:31You're not bad.
18:32I'm really really grateful that you've given me this opportunity now to when you hand the
18:38reins over when you take time out for yourself and Manda.
18:43That's what it's all going to be about now for me and Manda is we're going to take some
18:48time out, chill out and enjoy our surroundings.
18:53I look forward to being on this side of the bar.
18:56Talking about you then.
18:58Steve and Mandy have a relaxing day plan.
19:02Yep that's it.
19:03I've knocked off for the day now.
19:05I can leave it in safe hands of Lisa and the rest of the staff.
19:09The bar's up and running ready for another day.
19:12I'm off home, go see the wife and we're going to go out for a nice lunch.
19:16Oh sounds lovely.
19:17The challenge will be if Steve can forget about the pub for the day.
19:21Hey Mandy.
19:22It's so good that we're both stepping back, Steve especially because even on his days off
19:27he goes up to the bar to put the stock away so you don't really get the time off.
19:34Hopefully Steve is getting the message.
19:37Have we finished what you've got to do at the bar?
19:38Yeah, yeah.
19:39All done now.
19:40Don't have to go back.
19:41What do you want to do this afternoon then?
19:43We'll go for a walk on the beach and then go for something to eat.
19:46Yep.
19:47Clamp.
19:48Okay.
19:49Get the dogs a treat and then we'll get off.
19:50Excellent Steve.
19:51You're taking to retirement like...
19:53Hello?
19:54Do you know how to do the TVs?
19:55Oh.
19:56For the football.
19:57It's supposed to be our afternoon off.
19:59I don't think he knows how to do them.
20:01I've got to teach him to do them.
20:02Not the best start Steve.
20:08Somewhere on the Costa Blanca...
20:10Welcome to Cala Capitan.
20:16Ant's magical mystery tour is making its first stop.
20:20Come on then you law.
20:22He's taken 30 of his clients and chums.
20:25Excited.
20:26For a day out he hopes they'll remember.
20:29There you go sweetheart.
20:31Just like the ones he remembers from his childhood.
20:34It's like having a good old fashioned school day out.
20:37My nan and grandad when we were kids used to take us with the labour club to Morecambe.
20:41And we'd get on the bus and get a fiver each and a packed lunch.
20:44And it was lovely.
20:45Oh it's lovely and warm.
20:47Not only is this a way for him to make a few euros.
20:52It's a way to say thanks to those who got him through a tough time.
20:56I've suffered with depression now for just over 20 years since I lost my nana.
21:01Have you seen any fish?
21:03I had a breakdown just before Christmas.
21:05One of my lovely ladies died and the funeral was on the day of my birthday.
21:09And unfortunately the day after I couldn't move.
21:13But his group of golden girls and guys were on hand to take care of him.
21:18They didn't have to do that.
21:19Sorry for whinging.
21:20I hate crying.
21:21They didn't have to do that.
21:23Thank you so much.
21:24Cheers everyone.
21:25Cheers.
21:26Cheers.
21:27This part of Spain, specifically, it saved my life.
21:31I think to...
21:33I needed older people.
21:35I was craving my nana.
21:37I was craving the affection I was giving from my nana.
21:40And now, in a week, I probably see 150 people who all consider themselves to be like my nan.
21:47There's no pips in there, Pat.
21:49You might have to take your teeth out to suck it.
21:52After a quick half-time snack...
21:55You take two.
21:56You need it.
21:57Elaine's worst nightmare is about to come true.
22:00At the mud baths.
22:02Oh!
22:03John!
22:04Just to cool you down a bit.
22:07You say it's one of the healthiest places in the world, actually.
22:11I thought you might change your mind, Elaine.
22:13We're just coming at me.
22:16I'm sensitive as hell.
22:19But it's not exactly easy on the nose.
22:22Oh, the smell of the banter.
22:24Despite the stink...
22:27So did you all have a nice time?
22:29Yes!
22:30They're all going home looking ten years younger.
22:33Brilliant.
22:34Was it?
22:35Charlie.
22:36Are you welcome?
22:37I don't think anyone's going home today without a smile, and that makes me smile.
22:41But while his tour group continue to enjoy themselves, Ant's mind is already on the next money-making trip, and he'll be taking to the waves.
22:50The boat parties, I really enjoy the boat parties, because you're out at sea, it's lovely and cool, you get to meet lots of different people.
22:58Because they go every week, you've got to sell a certain amount of tickets before it can sail.
23:04I think the target today is about 17 tickets.
23:07Now it's vital that they sell, because if they don't sell, the boat just doesn't go.
23:12Ant's boat trip could be high and dry before he even raises the anchor.
23:16Right, 17 tickets, 17 tickets I can sell, and 17.
23:20How many was that Ant?
23:21Be good, you two.
23:23To flog the remaining tickets, he needs to target the right places.
23:28Or he could be barking up the wrong tree.
23:34Coming up, Nicky's big gig could face the curtain.
23:37Half an hour to go till showtime, it's getting a bit tight now.
23:40And some of my gang are not here yet.
23:42And Steve's on the verge of getting barred.
23:46This is what it's like when we go anywhere, we can't go without the bar calling or somebody calling.
24:01Back in Horradada, Ant's trying to make hay while the sun shines.
24:05He's got 17 tickets left for his boat trip, and if he can't sell them, he'll have to cancel.
24:12There's a pop-up event on today with different stores and stuff.
24:15So I've just come up with some of the flyers for our boat parties.
24:18The objective of today, really, is to try and get the last ticket sold.
24:21It looks like there's a good crowd here already, so I'm going to go and start flogging me ways, all right?
24:26He's organised the trip with one of his oldest friends.
24:29When I moved to Spain, I lived with Big Red and her children for my first four or five years here.
24:35And we used to do the boat parties a couple of years ago, and for one reason or another, the last few years, we just haven't been able to go ahead.
24:42For Suella, a.k.a. Big Red.
24:45And everyone's going to have a little dance.
24:47It's also the chance to raise some funds for her animal rescue charity.
24:51This year, when Big Red said she was putting them back on, I just thought it'd be a really good opportunity.
24:56But only if you can flog the remaining tickets, Ant.
25:00Do you like boats? Do you like going out to sea?
25:02We're out doing the boat parties today, Deb.
25:05I'll leave you one of the flyers.
25:06Lovely.
25:07I'll give you one of these while I'm here.
25:09Do you like being out at sea?
25:10They're on every Monday.
25:11Yeah. Okay.
25:12Yeah?
25:13I'm not really a water babe, but I do go out to sea.
25:16We're doing boat parties this year from Torabieca.
25:18So, if you want to come get some of the girls on, it's a nice afternoon.
25:21We've got a few tickets left for Monday as well, I love both.
25:24Come on, Ant, you've still got 17 tickets.
25:27Oh, hello, you lot.
25:29Hello.
25:30Are you all right?
25:31Yeah, yeah.
25:32I've come to flog you some tickets.
25:34You go from Torabieca every Monday.
25:36We sail at half past two.
25:38Oh, right.
25:39It's 27.50.
25:40That's for three hours out at sea.
25:42Yeah, yeah, definitely.
25:43Definitely.
25:44Do you want me to give you three tickets?
25:45Yes.
25:46Okay, lovely.
25:47I'll book it in for you now, okay?
25:48Yeah.
25:49I'll come back and sort it before I go.
25:50Yeah, yeah.
25:51Enjoy your drinks.
25:52Have a nice day, yeah?
25:53It's a trip out that we didn't expect.
25:57So, it's a good thing.
25:59Finally, a result for Ant.
26:01I was getting a little bit deflated before because obviously, like, I was showing people
26:06what we were doing but no one was actually buying into what I was selling.
26:09So, at the moment, there's 14 tickets left to sell.
26:12I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really would like them to sell.
26:15But I'm not going to get them sold stood up here in the sun.
26:18So, Ant had a last minute rethink of his marketing strategy.
26:22The main objective is getting the posters up and about within the community.
26:26If people don't know that you're doing these things, people aren't going to book them.
26:31You know, an older community that we have here, 90% of them don't have smartphones or use social media.
26:37So, they like to visually see what it is that you're doing with you.
26:43Back at the campsite where he does his OAP exercise classes, Ant's targeting closer to home.
26:50But if he can't sell out the boat trip, his commission will be dead in the water.
27:00I was just panicking then that I'd lost the car key.
27:02In Oriwella, singer Nikki Gale is getting ready for her big gig.
27:07Handbag, make-up, suitcase, costumes, most important, laptop.
27:14So, most importantly, have I got, yes I have, the money.
27:19It's a fundraiser for a local cancer charity.
27:22Come on then mum, let's get you ready for a night out on the town.
27:25Oh lovely, I look forward to it now.
27:28In memory of fellow performer and good friend, Stevie Spit.
27:32Hello, hello.
27:33Hi.
27:35Nice to see you all again.
27:37So, it's important the show goes without a hitch.
27:40So, we're just under an hour and a half till showtime.
27:43Where is everybody? None of my cast are here yet.
27:46Fingers crossed everyone gets here very soon.
27:48Fingers crossed everyone's got the right costumes.
27:50And fingers crossed everything works outside when I go and do my sound check.
27:53Oh, that's a lot of fingers.
27:55It's when I get stressful.
27:57You're telling me.
27:58One, two, two, one, two.
28:00You alright guys? I'll be in a minute, alright?
28:03That's the backstage crew but still no cast.
28:06So, everything's ready now.
28:08Alright? Yeah.
28:09The stage is set.
28:11Are we decent?
28:12But it's still quiet behind the scenes.
28:15I'm getting excited now but I'm conscious of time as always.
28:19Half an hour to go till showtime.
28:20It's getting a bit tight now.
28:21And some of my gang are not here yet.
28:23So, I've only got two out of five here at the moment.
28:27Just quite concerning at this time of night.
28:29If Nicky's dancers don't turn up, she won't be able to perform the full show.
28:34I know.
28:35So, this is Lee.
28:36This is my co-star, my John Travolta, my Patrick Swayze.
28:38A bit of everything really.
28:39A bit of everything really.
28:40A bit of everything really.
28:41But you've not been very well the last couple of weeks.
28:43No.
28:44The last two or three weeks I was actually doing this show.
28:46My voice went towards the end.
28:48And then it's just not been right for the last three weeks.
28:51This is the first time that I've sang really in three weeks.
28:55So, I'm a bit like that tonight.
28:57I've got no fingers left.
28:58So, yeah.
28:59Just final touches.
29:00I think that'll do.
29:04And how long have we got?
29:05Just enough time to warm up your vocals.
29:08It's kind of a little bit of a...
29:12But no, I'm not a do-re-me-y.
29:14None of that.
29:16And finally, the dancers arrive.
29:18How long have we got now?
29:21About ten minutes.
29:22I just get that feeling, you know, when you think you've forgotten something.
29:29Don't say that.
29:30Don't say that.
29:31Not funny, Lee.
29:32Two-minute countdown.
29:33This is when it gets exciting.
29:35We're about to go out and perform.
29:36There's quite a good crowd out there as well.
29:38I know that it's busy out there.
29:39I can hear the music building and we're ready to go.
29:41Us folks don't just flop to the Costas for the entertainment.
29:52We may enjoy all shows by night, but during the day it's all about the sun, sea and swimming.
29:59My favourite stroke is breaststroke.
30:00My best stroke is probably doggy paddle.
30:01Yep.
30:02Let's do a bit of that.
30:03And someone else trying to brave the open sea is Ant.
30:20He's trying to sell the remaining tickets for his boat party for his winter nest egg.
30:25But it's not just him at risk of being out of pocket.
30:30Obviously, if the boat doesn't sail, it means that the staff aren't being paid.
30:35It means that big red doesn't have a little bit extra to put away in the winter pot.
30:39But before he abandons ship, it's both hands on deck for a final push.
30:45I tell you, I have to bring me window lean up this week.
30:48These windows are filthy.
30:50Am I supposed to see through them, especially my lot with all the glaucoma and the cataracts?
30:54They'll have no chance.
30:56Ant may have plenty of tickets left, but his posters are another matter.
31:01So I'm just going to put this last poster up here in the snack bar.
31:08So now the poster's up, there's nothing else really that I can do other than go home.
31:17I hope we get some more booking.
31:23With the cut-off point approaching quickly and sailing close to the wind.
31:27I'd be very disappointed if the boat doesn't sell because, you know, you've got to get them selling to drum up more business,
31:33you know, on social media, you know, with the live videos and stuff like that.
31:37If people don't see them, then people aren't going to book them.
31:42Well, I suppose it's time for the moments of truth and give big red a call, eh?
31:47Hello, darling.
31:48Hello, love. You're okay?
31:49Are you?
31:50Yeah.
31:51I only managed to get rid of three tickets while we were out today.
31:54Erm...
31:55So it's short, isn't it?
31:56I think the best thing we can do is maybe transfer them out.
32:00Okay, well, what about putting them onto the boat the week after?
32:04What's the other boat?
32:05That's about half full, isn't it, the week after?
32:07Yeah, we're already half wide.
32:09So if we can transfer them people over, then that'll be full rowing at least at a full boat, going out at half a boat.
32:15Okay.
32:16Take care, yeah?
32:17Ta-ra.
32:18Ta-ra.
32:21What a crying shame that is, eh?
32:23All ready to go and have my afternoon out at sea.
32:26And you just can't logistically do it.
32:29It's a blow for Ant and his winter fun, but never fear, you can't keep a good man down.
32:34There's always a plus though, I don't do negatives, I'm glass overflowing rather than half full.
32:38We've managed to move the people over.
32:41We're going to go out the following week, go with the positives and the negatives.
32:44Anyway, I've got loads to do, I'll have to go, I'll see you later.
32:48Aye aye, Captain.
32:50Just a week later, Ant and Big Red finally took to the open seas.
32:57We made it, you lot.
32:59Gorgeous, we're out on the net.
33:01The boat's rocking, the boat's knocking.
33:05Look, it's Ant on deck.
33:07Wave hello to a comfortable winter to come.
33:17Going to the beach, when we can found the car keys.
33:20Back in Casada.
33:21Take it with us and then...
33:25Mandy and Steve have been forced to make a big life change because of Mandy's poor health.
33:29Come on then.
33:30They're giving up the busy bar they've owned for three years so they can embrace a more relaxed way of life.
33:37You know that I love living here and I have got a pull to the UK but hopefully now that we haven't got the bar and I can split my time a little bit more.
33:47You know deep down I wouldn't settle back in the UK. You know I don't like the weather.
33:52No, I know, but it's just the kids, isn't it? Grandkids, tug at your heart strings.
33:57They're quite welcome here, I'll let them come over.
34:00Oh, that can't.
34:02I'm sure they'll say yeah.
34:05But yeah, it would just be nice that I can, when I feel like I need to go, I'll be able to just go.
34:10That's it. I'll drop you off at the airport. No problem.
34:13No problem.
34:14I bet you will.
34:16But try as he might, Steve's struggling to call last orders on his beloved pub.
34:21Oh, this will be nice. Nice change.
34:24So today's promised Mandy a rare day out.
34:27Oh, what a view.
34:29Better than the north, Steve, that's for sure.
34:32Oh, the river in there.
34:34Guadalajara Beach is just down the road.
34:37Oh, are we spoilt?
34:39Very spoilt.
34:40With 11 kilometres of golden sand and clear blue sea, it's the perfect place to unwind.
34:46Am I in your good books, taking a day off, having so much time?
34:52Well, I'll let you know after we've been for lunch.
34:57But yeah, it's been nice to be able to just do something together.
35:01Yeah, it's so lucky to have Guadalajara Beach only ten minutes from where we live.
35:06It's criminal that we haven't used it more.
35:10Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to come, even if we just came for a walk after we had our evening meal for a little stroll.
35:16Couldn't beat it, couldn't you?
35:18To...
35:19There's no stopping us.
35:20No, when we've got nothing to do.
35:23Perfect end of a perfect day.
35:26See, Steve, this retirement lark isn't so bad.
35:29Hello.
35:30Oh dear.
35:31Bars rang him to say they can't get the TVs on for the football.
35:34But the actual remote control for the TV is the same as the one what you're pressing for TV number four.
35:40That'll turn that one on as well.
35:41This is what it's like when we go anywhere.
35:43You can't go without the bar calling or somebody calling.
35:46Even when you're on holiday in Australia and they're ringing you up at three to say they can't get the TVs on for the football.
35:52Okay.
35:53Okay.
35:54Talk to you later.
35:55Okay.
35:56Right.
35:57Sorted.
35:58Sorted.
35:59Good, good.
36:00Mandy's not going to let the bars spoil their date.
36:03And it's only just begun.
36:05Oh, lovely.
36:06It's a lovely afternoon.
36:07I'm looking forward to going for something nice to eat.
36:10Yes.
36:11I'm enjoying that.
36:12And a little drinky poo.
36:14Just a one.
36:15Maybe two.
36:16Maybe.
36:17Only if the bar doesn't call again, eh?
36:26Coming up, Steve and Mandy go on a roundite out.
36:30Hiya.
36:31How are you?
36:32Hello.
36:33And Nicky pulls out all the stops.
36:35It's so hot.
36:36You know, I think it's like 20-something degrees still outside.
36:40And yet I'm sweating.
36:54Let's go and eat, drink and be merry.
36:56Yes, why not?
36:57In Casamada on the Costa Blanca.
37:00Yeah.
37:01Oh, I'm really looking forward to this, meeting up with everybody.
37:03It's going to make a nice change for us that day evening.
37:05Yeah.
37:06It's been a while.
37:07Steve and Mandy are trying to embrace retirement.
37:10Hiya.
37:11How are you?
37:12Hello.
37:14Steve would usually spend all day, every day at their bars.
37:18Good to see you.
37:19Good to see you.
37:20Good to see you.
37:21Nice.
37:22Steve's trying to step away to enjoy more quality time together.
37:25We've done well today on our day off.
37:27I've only had two phone calls from the bar.
37:29So, now you've got this, all this free time on, what are you going to be doing with yourselves?
37:35I'll be coming out with you more often.
37:37What, every night?
37:38No, no.
37:39I'm going to cut it down to five to six nights a week.
37:41Five to six nights a week.
37:44I've got to have some time for my wife.
37:46Thanks for that one night.
37:48Me and Sheila will start doing some of them.
37:51Yeah.
37:52I'm going to join a choir.
37:54You know how much I love singing on the karaoke.
37:58We've missed out on a lot of our weekends, our friends' weekend nights out because we've been busy at the bar,
38:03or we've got to get up early the next day.
38:05So, tonight it's a real treat being out with them all and having a really nice time.
38:10I've done it for 25 years, ran pubs, and I really enjoyed it.
38:14But, in all honesty with you, Steve, I'm made up, I'm retired now, over here in Spain.
38:21It's the best thing I've ever done.
38:23I'd listen to Keith, Steve.
38:24Because we'll have a bit more time, we can start getting on a health kick.
38:29You can join us if you want, Kerry.
38:32Steve thinks the world of Mandy, but he does care about the pub too much.
38:38So, he needs to let it go and spend some more time with Mandy and his family.
38:45He does care.
38:46Well, having more time with the grandchildren, I think you absolutely deserve it.
38:49Oh, thank you, Sheila.
38:50You've worked so, so hard since you've been here.
38:52All the best, Steve, anyway.
38:55And Mandy.
38:56Best of luck to you.
38:57Thank you all.
38:58Thank you all.
38:59Cheers.
39:00Cheers.
39:01Cheers.
39:02Cheers.
39:03Today has been a big step.
39:04Steve's not taking a call from the bar in three hours.
39:07So, do you really think that you're going to be able to do it and step away from the bar?
39:12If you'll tell me I've got to, then I will.
39:14OK, so you're not going out five or six nights a week.
39:16I said I'm going to cut it down to five or six nights a week.
39:19One night and that's it.
39:21I'm going to step back.
39:23OK.
39:24I promise you.
39:25OK.
39:26That's on camera, that as well.
39:27We all saw, here's to a happy and healthy retirement.
39:33Lovely friends.
39:34Enjoy.
39:35Nice to meet you.
39:36Health, family and happiness.
39:37That's all we're after.
39:38You never know, you might get an ink out.
39:41You're still not in the ink out.
39:52So the guys are out there dancing now, aren't they?
39:58Perfect.
39:59It's showtime in Oriwella.
40:02I spent my life hiding behind this curtain waiting to go on.
40:06Nicky's big dig.
40:08She's fundraising in memory of good friend Stevie spit
40:20So Nicky's giving it her all the show so far is amazing
40:30Your thing is like 20-something degrees to outside. Yeah, I'm sweating
40:34I'll be through going really well. Just getting excited for the second half now. We're taking it to Greece
40:41Are you ready folkies? I have about 30 seconds. Let's go. They're ready for you, Sandy
40:49Because I need a man
40:54You
41:04Oh ladies and gentlemen, you've been absolutely amazing. Have you enjoyed yourselves tonight?
41:20Nicky and her team have smashed it, but she's got one last very important thing to do
41:26We'd like to present Maria and the Pink Ladies tonight with a cheque for 1,500 euros
41:31And Maria and the Pink Ladies is a cancer charity
41:34Breaking news
41:35We have just been offered a donation
41:39To make the money up to 2,000 euros tonight
