00:00you've seen the Panama City Beach fishing reports this is the guy right
00:05here Nathan snowed you know what to do you're a great fisherman I have no
00:09doubts that you'll figure this out the rest of it
00:13hey listen I'm a good learner
00:18nice
00:22that's why we come out here on Panama City Beach summertime in tarpon pit
00:36chasing the Sun is brought to you by Florida water
00:52sports get all you need for the water at fws.fish
00:57Humminbird simply clearly better
01:02Minn Kota and by Pirates Cove marina you enjoy the gulf we'll take care of the
01:10rest
01:15all right y'all if you've seen the Panama City Beach fishing reports this is the
01:26guy right here Nathan snowed that writes all those reports Nathan man I'm happy
01:30to finally have you on my boat I know we have fished around each other a lot over
01:33the years but we've never had a chance to get on here together you're obviously the
01:37guy when it comes to the tarpon fishing around here and it's something I don't
01:41get a whole lot of time to do I do a lot more inshore and kind of backwater
01:44stuff so I'm excited man thank you sir we have like a really really great
01:50inshore fishery kind of year-round one thing that the summertime here holds that
01:55the rest of the year doesn't hold is and that's tarpon they're only here really
02:01June and July in good fishable numbers so to me it almost creates more hype
02:06around it because you know you better get out there and get them right now right
02:10or if you wait too late you might not get one I want that be to be about right
02:15there okay and I go sideways so his nose like this like everything I have like my
02:19preferred method and I like to hook them sideways to the nostril because that way
02:23his mouth is still open where he can breathe and that way it'll sit just like
02:26that can't go anywhere and then just set them in the bucket I'd leave them in that
02:29bucket with little slack in line right up till you're ready to throw it I pretty much
02:33always prefer that cigar mena and it's not why most people think the reason I
02:37like it is because I use that cigar mena really more like a lure okay I want to
02:41be able to cast accurately they won't just run out there and bite it right you
02:44have to get it on their nose and keep it on their nose and make that perfect
02:47presentation getting that bait where you want it sorry they going that way I
02:51think they cut yeah I think yeah the school is right there they kind of are
02:54coming back in just a little bit but when they're that deep I think you almost have
02:58to just try to throw across them and then just bring it back over the top of them I know I've been
03:03trying to kind of give all this information but that's about it this is
03:05a competition it's all good man hey listen I'm a good learner you know what
03:10to do you're a great fisherman I have no doubts that you'll figure this out the
03:13rest of it okay so that's all the information you get oh oh dang he got bit
03:19we missed him he's gonna come back this has been their deal they come up roll
03:24they just go back and then they just sit on the wall fish have moods tarpenter
03:29like that like times 10 with their ability to breathe air off the surface all
03:33of a sudden you add in one more variable and you're trying to read what that
03:36schools wanted to do each time that we go out and it's just about making small
03:40adjustments until you figure out whatever trigger now it is you know that's gonna
03:45get them into a feeding response yeah and every day is gonna be different so
03:48you just got to keep on trying till it works well that's what keeps the
03:51excitement alive oh there we go nice nice number one here I'd stay in there we're
04:02gonna hook two on my bed there he comes oh that's a perfect little guy I like to
04:10get up high like this with the rod because when he jumps you want to really throw
04:14some slack in there if you're pulling tight when he shakes that head jumping he's gone and a giant but
04:21he's still tough the power they don't have any quit in them you know they didn't make it for millions of
04:25years traveling the oceans of the world yeah they do cover a lot of ground too they are widespread
04:32amongst all the tropical areas almost in the world getting them to bite is one thing getting
04:37them into the boat afterwards it's a whole other process all together so they are they're really an
04:42incredible animal and when you try to grab him if he takes off just like it yeah yeah you're all
04:48shredding I know that leader is chafed up pretty good there yeah yeah it's amazing when that 60 gets
05:02around there they can chafe right oh yeah you know I always feel like 60 flora is so abrasion resistant but
05:07not against that jaw right there nope there we go fish off fish off oh this one's a little more angry
05:14angry angry fella there we go
05:17pretty flashing back down I know I love he's already boatside you know
05:35hey a little rainstorm right at the pass that's right who cares look at it now it's slick calm
05:41got two little schools of tarpon right here around us my man Nathan should know gonna have to add tarpon
05:48to the fishing report this month that's right as long as we've kind of been in the same circle and
05:54known each other this is actually going to be the first time that we have ever fished together and so
05:59I'm excited about it I'm excited to learn a little bit about the tarpon fishery that we have here
06:03you've got to make the fish stop moving and float on the surface right they're hard enough to grab
06:09like that you try to get a drive-by it is about impossible common question I get people always say
06:17what's your favorite thing to chase here and I always go straight to the tarpon perfect fish
06:21that's where they all need to stop growing right there yeah then you take a fish like that and you
06:25throw it in this environment in that emerald green water white sand bottom it doesn't really get any
06:31better tough critter isn't it for all the scorekeepers out there that counts as a catch already so
06:42this is just a bonus right here just a bonus
06:46let me get a hold of me boy all right that's a catch baby good job start the morning off Nathan
06:57I appreciate your grabbing there that's that's grabbing like a man too he wasn't gonna come easy
07:02was he beautiful that's a healthy happy fish nice job man good job beautiful so now that we were able
07:16to release a fish out of that school right there do they kind of get spooked or yeah it does depend
07:21maybe school by school but like a school like this is there's a lot of them you see the bubbles popping
07:26they're just laying on the bottom i'm gonna really back yeah get in there if nobody else has found
07:32these fish yet i'm gonna go straight back to them and i bet they're gonna keep on biting awesome it's
07:36right back toward the middle yeah i would kind of just make a nice long cast of that and just let
07:40them swim right there it's so hard to tell somebody when somebody asks you where do i throw you're like
07:47oh i mean how far do i lead them by man there's a lot of variables there you know how fast is the fish
07:53moving i love it too how you're landing way outside them like that and then bringing into them you can
07:58get away with a little bit because they're so deep i have to feel that bait that bait's doing it come
08:04on i like that it's going to be different every time and that's where you got to just start to kind
08:09of use like your your fishy senses you know all right if i was that fish what would look natural to me
08:17there we go fish on fish on yes bow when he jumps here he's about to take off
08:23there we go come on go all the way hey there we go nice oh yeah oh this one's a little more angry
08:31he's a little angry angry fella there we go i love it
08:37that's a perfect size one too oh yeah come on stay blue look at that there we go oh man i'm sorry folks
08:43if that don't get you excited oh man i'm telling you oh thank you sir why don't we why did we wait
08:49this long to go fishing together i don't know we're both busy that's the truth it probably won't
08:54be that long that's right well we've been out here fishing for all of an hour now yeah i think we
09:01grab this one right here and go have breakfast will you say man this fish gave us everything that that
09:08you want out of a tarpon oh fish see that's what them 70 pounders are supposed to do i mean when people
09:15come and they want to catch a tarpon this fish gave us the full experience i love it that's too much
09:24that's a good jumper there i'm telling you he's he is not happy about it i wanted to make sure we both
09:29catch one today come on and that first shot when i see him come up and i see them big old lips i reach
09:39in and just get both hands locked on there all right we locked in oh and i'm gonna ride it out
09:47i mean he might snatch me out of the boat but i ain't let go of him that's what usually gets you
09:51right there that line gets to pull him like that uh-huh i'm surprised he didn't say fall you know
09:56one misconception i think a lot of people make about land and big fish like this is that they need this
10:02long recovery time and with tarpon you can't pull them out of the water so when we get them beside the boat
10:06we're going to take our quick pictures all right here get up here close quick
10:16and as long as that fish is upright and he's trying to swim we're going to release them very
10:21quickly because there's no need to just drag them around beside the boat right it's just additional
10:25stress at that point that's it get his head down good perfect see how we keep the boat moving like
10:30this it just keeps them going straight when you feel like it's set up right good just send them on his
10:34way beautiful and i watch this fish swim off every day through the summer and they're healthy happy
10:41and strong all right you ready there you go bye oh yeah look at that sir that's a fine fish thank
10:50you brother awesome man thank you brother that's awesome that's good stuff that's why we come out
10:54here on panamo city beach summertime come see justin lee can put you on
10:59i got a spotlight right here and i'm going to probably kind of hang tight because we're right
11:05here by the pass that fish will get on the bottom of it you've never seen them again you'll
11:10you'll land one out of 50 but you are not seeing them again
11:13we've got back on this other school of fish we've uh already you know got lucky there this is a school
11:29of fish we know is chewing so uh yeah it's not a huge school either i think it's about 30 fish but
11:34if we've already got two bites and catch two out of that school yeah i say we jump down and give them
11:38a shot they're easing up on us pretty good and the type of fishing that i do tarpon is
11:43probably what i'm the least experienced in i'll let you scoop which one you want yeah that way if
11:47you don't work it's not my fault that's right if you sat down and tried to draw the dream scenario
11:53to sight fish something in to me it would be a tarpon for their size their acrobatic ability
12:00just the beauty of the fish itself come on i'm all in right there come on boy he's freaking out what
12:08more beautiful of a place could you come to to go and target these fish i mean the water
12:13is just second to none anywhere in the world
12:18you're on the left side yeah i'm on the left side of them i think they're coming at me
12:22if they keep moving i'll be in good shape yeah you throw wherever you wherever you want
12:37nice
12:41coming up coming up come on show us baby
12:44there's something laying on the bottom right here it's like a big old log on the bottom look at
12:51the bait all over oh dang you see them holy cow that's a giant i know what that means oh that's
12:58not good that's one of those giant tarpon and most fish you know it's like the bigger the better right
13:03right and once they cross that 120 line and larger they just turn into painful work oh no
13:10that's not here it comes again watch this watch this oh gosh he just came off dang that might be a
13:15good thing that was one of them 120 years it was blind luck okay but i'm going to claim it as a
13:21professional release i saw how big that fish was and so i tapped the rod a couple times and he spit
13:26the hook and now i'm free he might have shot the pier if i let him keep going there holy cow that was a
13:33giant that was a big fish i was really thankful to have you fishing with me today because we
13:42encountered like every different type and level of visibility that you can have in a day
13:51if we weren't seeing the fish roll every once in a while probably wouldn't know where they're at
13:55now that we've got these darker clouds rolling in the reflection off of the water is a much darker
14:00color now which allows us to actually see those fish on the bottom it looks like there might be
14:05a water right here there is yeah this is the close one there's another one right back i can see them
14:11they're just right over there when i'm fishing redfish a lot of times when i make a cast to them
14:17i'll let the bait hit the water and then it has a second or so before the vibration or that little
14:23shock wave of where the bait lands for it to kind of work its way out towards fish you'd be surprised a
14:28lot of times like when i hit right there they'll start coming back in towards you they definitely
14:31sense when that thing lands that's you reading the fish you know if you cast too far the fish doesn't
14:38notice your lure or your bait then that's how you know you cast it too far that's right he didn't
14:43recognize it you cast too close and the fish shies away from it you're like okay that was too close
14:48and the only way to know that is by reading the fish and experimenting
14:52oh there he goes oh there he's oh dang he got bit
14:59he missed it he got bit though you're on you're on real real real there we go oh yeah there we go
15:04let's go baby let's go nice so again you hook up i'm like all right here we go and then no jump the
15:13fish just takes off bulldogging and we knew immediately that this one was going to be a problem
15:19i got a spotlight right here and i'm going to probably kind of hang tight because we're right
15:22here by the pass yeah it always worries me because somebody's gonna come running out and
15:27hopefully won't go run across your line once they get out deep like that especially close to the pass
15:33right there's all this boat traffic so you have to take that into account so now we're going to kind
15:37of go against the rules of just letting the fish drag us around and fighting them back to the boat
15:42now we're going to have to chase them down oh there we go don't do that now he's pissed don't do that
15:50uh oh we do have a boat coming too what's that we got a boat coming here uh watch the
15:56watch the troll motor nathan yep i'm going to crank up and go run out there because that dude's going to
16:00run them over it's going to get more difficult because now you've introduced more variables you have
16:05the actual channel itself which is like 50 feet deep and so now the fish can go out he can go down
16:12he's coming up right he might jump right here yeah damn it is a big one too it's a big one
16:22now dodge are really in his favor because he's down deep and you know there's not a lot of folks that
16:27are going to be able to drag that fish up off the bottom when they get over that edge right there and
16:32drops off to 40 foot that fish will get on the bottom of it you've never seen them again you'll
16:36you'll land one out of 50. like you are not seeing them again chasing the sun has been brought to you by
16:45minn kota florida water sports get all you need for the water at fws.fish

18:05the 100 pound fish they're way more spunky they're way more active this we knew right off the bat was
18:16going to be a big fish because all it did was drop down to the bottom and it just started swimming
18:21come on big girl she's making about 100 yards of it back oh look at that look at that wannabe jump
18:30yep dang she is still so powerful but every one of the runs is a little shorter so we had this fish
18:39almost whipped we had it all the way to the boat that's what the big girls look like that's right
18:45that is a toad i'd stay over here and keep cranking the crank that rod tip right to her head yeah all
18:51right i like to get the tip rod too close so you can kind of really steer her around okay gotcha gotcha
18:55i'd wait to get her head up on the surface just about to grab it and this fish decides that it's
19:02got some more left in the gas tank golly that's a big one look how big that thing is hey that is a
19:11giant these fish fight hard and and often people are just amazed by how long these fish can fight
19:17because they see it on here and we edit out that really long stretch in the middle where the fish is
19:21just pulling and pulling these fish are just pulling and pulling these fish they're tough
19:30hey let me get it back look at that fish that is it what a tank i mean when i finally got my
19:42hands in there i was so excited for you i was excited for us
19:45that's what it's about right there man wow you know without weighing them it's hard to say but
19:58i guarantee you that fish could be 150. we finally had that last giant fish that we really wanted you
