00:59Oh my god.
01:01I'm in love for the moment and I can't hold it. Oh my god.
01:09If we go back to this moment.
01:13Hello, hello and welcome to Healthy, Wealthy and Wise. If this is your first time here you've
01:24stumbled onto a show where we try to live smarter, feel better and if nothing else at least have a
01:31little chuckle or pretending we've got our lives together. And this magnificent piece of man is Ash Wicks.
01:39Hello Ash. No one has ever referred to me as magnificent so I love that.
01:44Look I'm going to look deep in thought while fretfully googling anything that you want today.
01:50Good boy. Now our first expert today is the human version of a bunning sausage. Wholesome,
01:57practical and looks gorgeous laying on a piece of white bread. The DIY Queen. Here she is.
02:05I've never been referred to as a bunning sausage before but I've been called worse.
02:10You have been out doing another room rescue.
02:14Yes, I'm so excited for this one. It's so good to see the family's faces when you renovate their room.
02:20And once you change a room, you're changing the entire space.
02:23Especially the living room where you spend so much time in watching Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
02:28Yes. They're stoked. She's sure a good girl. She gets an extra dollar in the pay today.
02:32Um, who does stuff for you?
02:36Well, you know what it's like when women, if you've been pregnant before and they say oh go nest,
02:42nesting means go do every DIY in the house, renovate the kitchen, change everything in that time.
02:50Yeah. And you've run out of stuff to do at your place and now you're doing it for our beautiful Healthy, Wealthy and Wise viewers.
02:57I can't wait to see what you've achieved.
02:59I'm excited for another room rescue. Let's take a look.
03:04Tim and Annette have overcome some big battles in the last few years.
03:08Now, their daughter Rose has reached out for help to tackle another.
03:15Their living and dining room.
03:17This was my childhood home and my parents do still live here.
03:20They've lived here for over 35 years.
03:22And in that time, not much has changed in the living room, including the furniture.
03:26They have the same couches, the same curtains.
03:28So this room is definitely overdue for some TLC.
03:32Even during the day, I think it can be quite dark in there because of the brick
03:36and darker colours of the furniture and things like that.
03:39I definitely think it could be brightened up a lot.
03:41The room's definitely in need of an upgrade.
03:43It's just worn.
03:45We haven't really had the chance to do it.
03:47Ten years ago, I had a massive heart attack.
03:50So I'm actually lucky to be here.
03:55And just recently, last couple of months, I had my hip replaced.
04:00So it's been a bit of a hard struggle, but can't ask for a better daughter.
04:06She's very good.
04:08She's always there for us, especially with all my health issues.
04:13She's been tremendous.
04:23I feel like I'm stepping back in time.
04:25There is a lot of timber and brick going on here.
04:29It's very dark, but we've got big windows over there, which is a plus.
04:35I'm actually vibing this ceiling.
04:37I want to leave the ceiling as is.
04:39I think we have to paint the brick and the walls.
04:42Paint, paint.
04:44The floors have got a bit of character to them.
04:48We'll get rid of them.
04:50Bring in some artwork.
04:51I'm thinking like a European theme.
04:53Dark timbers, but then also light floors.
04:57Keep the ceiling and a big dining table with a beautiful mirror
05:02so they can celebrate around the dining table.
05:04I think it's going to turn out great.
05:06I'm very excited for this one.
05:08I'm just a little bit scared of all the timber and brick that's going on.
05:12Let's get into it.
05:13First off, these curtains are a couple of decades out of date.
05:18I reckon we can do a lot better.
05:20I also need to get them out of the way for some painting.
05:23I'm keeping the ceiling as is, but painting the rest a soft beige
05:27that will brighten up the space and complement the warm coloured furniture.
05:32Timber is relatively easy to paint.
05:35Bricks, on the other hand, a whole different story.
05:38We're going to give this brick wall a crack.
05:40It is thirsty.
05:41It's going to need a lot of paint.
05:44Instead of wasting hours of rolling it,
05:47we're going to whip out the spray gun.
05:48Let's go.
05:55Spraying super fast, but can get messy.
05:58I can't get any on the ceiling,
06:00but a little bit on the floor is fine as it's getting an upgrade.
06:05I want to bring Rose's parents' house back into the 21st century,
06:09so I've popped down to Flooring Extra.
06:11I'm looking for something that won't clash with the timber ceiling,
06:14but is also light, airy, breezy,
06:16and just opens up the whole space.
06:19I'm after something with a timeless, natural look,
06:22a laminate floor that feels stylish now...
06:24Ooh!
06:25..but will still hold up years down the track.
06:28Unlike that old vinyl that's definitely had its day.
06:32That's beautiful.
06:36Painting is finished.
06:37This room is so much brighter.
06:40Wait till there's some floors down and some furniture in here.
06:44This room is going to just change so much.
06:47All right, we've got the old vinyl here.
06:53It was level as, and there was no bubbles, no moisture,
06:56so all we're doing is placing the boards literally straight over the top.
07:00You don't always have to tear it up.
07:02You can just cover it up.
07:03Bob's your uncle.
07:05Looks so good!
07:07Tip to make the room look even bigger
07:09is run the boards with the length of the room.
07:12Looks huge in here.
07:13You guys are killing it!
07:20Now, we're obviously brightening up the walls and the brickwork
07:23with a beige colour,
07:24but we still want to keep that old, rustic, dark charm.
07:28So a dark leather couch with dark fixtures is going to look amazing in there.
07:37A lot of people think you have to get all the same pieces from the same set.
07:40It's not like that.
07:41It's about how you feel and how you want the space to look.
07:44You can try different textures, different colours, have a lot of fun.
07:47The key to creating a good living room is comfort, number one.
07:51And as you know, Rose's family's recliners had seen better days.
07:57They've done about 10,000 hours.
08:00So getting them some new ones.
08:04I can picture them now.
08:06Two next to each other, brown leather couch, cute coffee table.
08:12Maybe we'll go that colour.
08:15Something that people often forget when they're styling a space
08:18is bringing in artwork.
08:20And I love artwork, especially if it's oversized.
08:22Something like this and then bringing in those colours into the cushions,
08:26into the styling from the artwork brings a whole piece together.
08:30Loving them.
08:35Wow!
08:36Woohoo!
08:38I'm upgrading all the furniture, including the dining table and chairs.
08:43How is that?
08:46Love it.
08:47Rose and her family are going to be home very soon.
08:49We're nearly there.
08:52Looks sick.
08:55Oh, do you feel it?
08:56Do you smell it?
08:57Is it inspiration in the air?
08:59Ash, is it?
09:00Absolutely.
09:04What does it smell like?
09:05It smells like sarcasm.
09:06If you're feeling inspired, don't go anywhere because we will be seeing
09:12the incredible result later in the episode.
09:16After the break, we're going to be joined by my friend, theatre sensation,
09:20Christy Whelan Brown.
09:22You didn't mention any of this.
09:23And Vincent Lim turns limp food scraps into fried rice magic.
09:29It's the best fried rice I've ever eaten.
09:31Plus, a wardrobe makeover bursting with colour and emotion.
09:36A lot of this stuff, I don't wear it.
09:37I was back to you not wearing it.
09:38We've got to get rid of it.
09:39So if you don't want to watch that.
09:41See you soon.
09:45This segment is brought to you by Bob Jane T-Mart's Best Tire Price Guarantee.
09:51All right, it is time for Back of the Fridge Fine Dining.
09:56The part of the show where we tackle those sad, forgotten veggies and other goodies
10:00and turn them into something that you'd not only be happy to serve,
10:03you'd be happy to whack it in your face as well.
10:06Today, we've got a man who can take whatever's left behind and make it sing.
10:10Chef, legend, the Wok Slinger himself, Vincent Dim Sim Lim.
10:14Hey, thank you, thank you.
10:16I'm so thrilled to be in here with you.
10:18Yeah, me too.
10:19We're going to be making fried rice today.
10:21Oh, my God.
10:21I'm mad for fried rice.
10:23Can't wait.
10:24Great, good.
10:25I think everybody has this in their fridge.
10:26Leftover bits of bacon.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Half a corn.
10:29OK.
10:29Half a capsicum.
10:30Excuse me.
10:31Come on.
10:32This is the best part to fried rice.
10:35Nobody even wants the florets at our house.
10:38We all want the stem.
10:39Is there a key to doing the corn?
10:41Because I go like this and it goes everywhere.
10:43Well, cut it in half first.
10:44This is how I do it at home.
10:45OK.
10:46It's a Miss Piggy moment.
10:47Hi-yah!
10:48Wow.
10:49Very satisfying, actually.
10:51Got the rotisserie chicken.
10:53Just going to take out the bone in the middle.
10:55Small bite-sized pieces, so every bit of the rice will have a little bit of chicken in
10:58there.
10:59Do you want me to show you what it looks like when a real person does it?
11:02There we go.
11:04Beautiful.
11:05We want to get this pan as hot as possible.
11:08Yes.
11:09If it's not hot, you might as well microwave, right?
11:11Yeah.
11:12Don't be afraid of oil because it's called fried rice for a reason.
11:14Yes.
11:15If you don't put enough oil, it just doesn't have that nice smoky aroma like you get in
11:19the restaurant.
11:20OK.
11:21Put all the oil on one side and crack the egg into the oil.
11:25Got a wok ladle.
11:26Just going to scramble that a little bit.
11:28So what the egg does, it creates a coating on the wok.
11:31So you're not throwing sticky rice straight into the wok and it sticks.
11:35Of course.
11:36Throw the bacon in.
11:37Just get it like nice and fragrant.
11:38Chicken, green onions, the white parts, throw it in there.
11:42Little cubes of broccoli stem straight in.
11:45Your corn.
11:46OK, perfect.
11:47Too much is kind of my thing.
11:48Yeah.
11:49Now we're going to add the rice.
11:50OK.
11:51If you don't have a rice cooker, you can also use a microwave.
11:53Yes.
11:54You can use a pot.
11:55Yum yum umami seasoning.
11:56Put a little bit in there.
11:58Brings out the natural flavours from the bacon, chicken, corn and the broccoli.
12:02Soy sauce is going to go in.
12:03A lot of people put soy sauce straight onto the rice.
12:05Don't do that.
12:06Put it around the wok just on here.
12:08Because we don't want wet fried rice.
12:10Once it's a little bit evaporated, we give it a quick toss.
12:13Now it's almost done.
12:14We're going to add sesame oil just around as well.
12:16The heat from the sesame oil will just bring out all that aroma.
12:19Oh, my God.
12:20Smell that.
12:21We lift the capsicum for last because capsicum, when you cook for a long time,
12:23releases a lot of water.
12:24And it goes mushy.
12:25We don't want that.
12:26No.
12:27Quick toss.
12:28Oh, my God.
12:29I'm paralyzed.
12:30You got this.
12:31Hey, there we go.
12:32OK, good, good, good, good, good.
12:33Ready to serve?
12:34Wait, there's no peas in it though, Vincent.
12:36OK, fine.
12:37We'll put some peas.
12:38Yeah, just a few.
12:39Just a few.
12:40We've got the red.
12:41We've got the yellow.
12:42We've got the green.
12:43And we've got little bits of pork and chicken throughout.
12:44It's beautiful.
12:45OK, let's go.
12:46I'm so excited.
12:47OK, there we go.
12:48Done.
12:49Oh, my God.
12:50I'm salivating.
12:51I can't even speak.
12:52With sad old stuff out of the back of the fridge.
12:55Exactly.
12:56That looks incredible.
12:57Restaurant quality fried rice in under three minutes.
12:59It's the best fried rice I've ever eaten.
13:01Mm.
13:02And I do believe that that is the secret weapon.
13:04Yeah, that is the secret weapon.
13:05And that's coming home with me.
13:08Welcome back.
13:09Before the break, we were all about giving a room a glow up.
13:13This segment is all about the things you absolutely do not want to find in your house.
13:19Please welcome our very special guest on the Box of Death.
13:30Joining me tonight is one of the most dazzling talents in Australian entertainment.
13:35You've seen her light up the stage in musicals like Chicago, Anything Goes and the Rocky Horror Show.
13:40She's stolen scenes on TV in Neighbours and The Wrong Girl.
13:44She's also stolen my heart.
13:46It's Christy Whelan-Brown.
13:51Thank you so much for coming to my new house.
13:53There's no kids here, which is good.
13:55I know.
13:56And I left mine at home.
13:57Yes!
13:59Now, you're here to have a little play with the Box of Death.
14:03How frightened are you?
14:05I thought there was no end to what I would do for my love for you.
14:08Now, looking at that box, I think there is.
14:11Let me explain to you exactly what is about to happen, because there's no escaping now.
14:17Done.
14:18You've locked the doors.
14:19In a moment, you're going to make a choice, an impossible choice, between three options.
14:24Let's call them scene partners.
14:26Okay.
14:27Co-stars.
14:28Option one is Lara, a massive snake that could crush this entire cat in one go.
14:36Have a look.
14:37Have a look at this.
14:38For **** sake.
14:39Yeah, yeah.
14:40Okay.
14:41A little bit of cash in the swear jar there.
14:43Christy's contributing.
14:44That's a sweaty.
14:45Yep.
14:46Oh, my God.
14:47Now, have a look.
14:48Have a look.
14:49I mean, she's beautiful.
14:50I don't like her.
14:52You don't like her?
14:53No.
14:54Alright.
14:55Well, maybe you will like Henrietta better.
14:57Henrietta is the biggest spider we could **** find.
15:01I...
15:02Oh, my God.
15:03Okay.
15:04It's looking like Lara and Henrietta are not options.
15:10So, maybe...
15:11I'm sweating.
15:12I'm sweating.
15:13Maybe you're going to have to go with the box of death.
15:18Christy, we're the proud.
15:20Guys.
15:22You don't know what's in there, and either do I.
15:24They don't tell me because you know I would tell you.
15:26Anyway, whichever one you choose, it is going to be placed directly into your hands
15:29while I ask you some questions.
15:31I mean, it's easy, really.
15:32When you text me and asked me to come here, you didn't mention any of this.
15:36Oh, God.
15:37It must have got cut off in the text.
15:39Alright.
15:40The only way out of here is through.
15:43I'm going to give you some time to consider your options.
15:46After the break, we're going to find out how Christy seals her fate.
15:50Which one will she choose?
15:52As well as seeing the first chapter in Chica's latest glow up.
15:57It's going to have you grinning from ear to ear.
15:59Can't wait.
16:08Welcome back to Healthy, Welby and the wise,
16:09where we've trapped Christy Whelan Brown in an escape room,
16:13from which there is no escape.
16:15That's the twist.
16:17Now, I don't want you to have a panic attack.
16:20And so I have made sure that there are professionals on hand
16:25to help you in case anything goes wrong.
16:28So you can see I have spared no expense.
16:32And we have Super Loser Man on standby.
16:36And your choices again, Lara the snake or there's Henrietta the spider.
16:41I'm going to go with the unknown.
16:44Yes.
16:45And hope for the best.
16:47Oh, my God, you look so scared.
16:49It's so delicious.
16:51She's going with the box of death, guys.
16:54Yes.
16:55All right, are you ready?
16:58What on earth?
17:00Is that bad?
17:01Chrissy.
17:01It's a moving leaf.
17:02Chrissy, what?
17:03Is it bad?
17:05Oh, my God, this looks like a lobster.
17:09It's a spiny stick insect.
17:11This is it.
17:11I'm never answering your calls.
17:12Is it a scorpion?
17:13Does it bite?
17:14No.
17:16Oh, my God.
17:18Okay, quickly.
17:19I've got to ask a question.
17:21You were the lead in Xanadu, the musical.
17:24Please say hello to everybody that bought a ticket.
17:27It's like this is your life.
17:30Wasn't it fun, you guys, that one night?
17:32Oh, it isn't me.
17:35Where is it moving from?
17:37Its hand is going.
17:39Its hand.
17:40Its hand.
17:43Now, there's always endless discussions about what is Olivia Newton-John's best song?
17:50What is yours and why is it magic?
17:53Let's do it.
17:54It just went like this.
17:59It went like this.
17:59It doesn't look like singing.
18:02Okay, all right.
18:03Okay, all right.
18:04No, no, no, no.
18:05It's touching.
18:06It's moving.
18:07It's moving.
18:08It's moving.
18:08Quickly.
18:09No, it's fighting.
18:14Get off.
18:15Quickly, it won't stop.
18:24It's upside down.
18:27It's upside down.
18:29I can't look.
18:30I can't look.
18:32Quickly.
18:32Family is everything to you.
18:34Please take a look at the screen and tell me what's going on.
18:38Ah!
18:39Mum was giving me a drag on my dummy while she was having a drag on her diary.
18:45Ah!
18:46Get this on!
18:49Ah!
18:50Ah!
18:52Ah!
18:59Oh, my God!
19:04Christy, I'm so sorry.
19:06I didn't know that it was...
19:07Oh, my God!
19:08You know what?
19:09It's time for another sensational...
19:11You're amazing.
19:12Another sensational wardrobe remix.
19:14I'm so sorry.
19:16We're turning glorious chaos into curated magic.
19:19Let's see how she goes.
19:20Hello, Deb.
19:41Hi.
19:42It is so lovely to meet you.
19:44Thank you for coming.
19:45My absolute pleasure.
19:46We've got to have so much fun.
19:47It's all about purple.
19:48Yes, it is.
19:49It's even a purple chair.
19:50Let's go and explore.
19:52Hi, my name is Deb.
19:53I'm 59, the big six-o next year.
19:56The way I would describe my style in three words would be colourful.
20:01Some would say flamboyant, but definitely unique.
20:04My style does sort of come through in my work because I make these elf dolls.
20:09I do a couple of markets throughout the year, selling them.
20:13That's where I get my true enjoyment is being creative and making something from scratch.
20:19I think a lot of my style sort of comes through in my dolls with the way the world is at the moment.
20:25We need a bit more colour.
20:26We need a bit more positivity.
20:27And one way to do that is by the way I dress.
20:30Okay, Deb, come and show me what you've got.
20:31I'm loving this little bit of purple.
20:33It says everything to me.
20:35Okay.
20:36Ta-da-loo!
20:36Ta-da!
20:37Look how neat you are!
20:39And you've got the velvet coat hangers.
20:41Definitely.
20:41That says everything to me.
20:42That says everything to me about you.
20:43Why are we doing this little makeover?
20:45What's the...
20:46Well, I need advice.
20:48Okay.
20:48I need advice to dress appropriately for my size and my height.
20:53Yes.
20:54And to sort of make believe I've got a waistline there.
20:56Exactly.
20:57Yes.
20:57So if you were to choose an outfit to go out, what would you choose?
21:01I've got overalls.
21:02I do love overalls.
21:04Do you have fun with fashion?
21:05Like, do you...
21:06I do.
21:06It's obviously an expression of who you are.
21:07Yeah.
21:08I love colour, so I always like to wear something that's really colourful.
21:12Do you like to layer it up with something else so you've got lots of different layering
21:15and contrasts?
21:16Sometimes I struggle because I've got the printed pants and I think, well, what sort of printed
21:21top goes with printed pants?
21:22And I can't.
21:23Yeah, that's what I thought.
21:23So basically if you've got your printed pant, you need to wear a plain top.
21:27And I know that's a hard thing.
21:28Yeah.
21:28Because you're someone who wants to be a rainbow and wear all the things.
21:31Yeah.
21:31But it actually looks more elegant if you have...
21:34I mean, those pants are fabulous.
21:35Make them the feature.
21:37Yeah.
21:37Because not everything can be the feature.
21:39This is a really fun piece.
21:40But again, we then put something like a clean white t-shirt underneath it or something that's
21:44a little bit more simple.
21:46Yeah.
21:46So if this becomes a statement, they become a statement.
21:49I actually don't know that I have a history with purple.
21:52It's just a favourite colour.
21:54I just love it.
21:55It's one of those colours that you don't see a lot of clothes in.
21:59And if you do, it's usually with something else.
22:01I just love the colour purple.
22:04You're the most organised person I've ever seen.
22:06I mean, that is a vision in itself.
22:08Just all that beautiful colour.
22:10A lot of this stuff, I don't wear it.
22:12If you're not wearing it, we've got to get rid of it.
22:13And there's a really good trick, I don't know if you've seen this trick, that you hang
22:16everything in your wardrobe.
22:18If you wear it, you turn it around.
22:20So then at the end, you can see what of your clothes you wear and what you don't wear.
22:23And then the pieces you get rid of.
22:24This is so good.
22:26We're going to have so much fun.
22:31Don't go anywhere.
22:32That reveal is coming up.
22:34And later, the big room rescue reveal.
22:38Welcome back.
22:44Now, we have already met Deb, the human rainbow, the woman who can stop traffic with her outfits.
22:51But today is about keeping all that joy and giving it a little more focus.
22:57Chica has been working her magic and it is time to see the reveal.
23:03Are you ready?
23:04Let's take a look.
23:04Hi, Deb.
23:08Hi.
23:08It is so good to see you.
23:10Now, we're going to go and find you some block colours to wear back with all of your beautiful
23:13patterns.
23:14Are you happy with that?
23:14I'm all yours.
23:15Let's do it.
23:17Deb, I'd love you to meet my friend Donna.
23:19Hi, Deb.
23:19This is Deb.
23:20Welcome to our store.
23:22Nice to meet you too.
23:22Hasn't you got great hair?
23:24Oh, amazing.
23:25We're going to have fun today.
23:26We have lots of colour.
23:28And you look like you're a lady that loves colour.
23:30I do.
23:30Very much.
23:31She's not scared of it, that's for sure.
23:32Now, Deb, did you bring that top that we talked about the other day?
23:41I did.
23:42Fantastic.
23:42This is a top that Deb loves.
23:44We could show her a few different ways that she can wear this top with some different pants.
23:49I really love the shape.
23:49So what we're going to do here is have the pattern with the plane.
23:52I feel like we need some jeans or white pants.
23:54What about a white jean?
23:56What else is jumping out at you at the moment?
23:58Behind you.
23:59I'm really surprised that you like these colours.
24:01I would have thought they were too muted for you, but I love that you like them.
24:04I like that.
24:04I love that you've chosen this one because this is actually part of my collection, A Blue
24:08Illusion.
24:08Yes.
24:09I didn't even tell her to say that.
24:10We thought this would be a nice suit for you.
24:13I think it's going to be amazing with your eyes.
24:15Oh, it would be good with the pink hair.
24:16It would look incredible, actually.
24:18It would make your hair the statement.
24:19So I think we'll just play around and see what works.
24:21I'm not quite sure what to do with this.
24:31Okay, perfect.
24:31Let's come out and put you in front of the mirror.
24:33It's all about the scarf at the moment.
24:35This is the sort of thing that you have open or shut.
24:38You can tie this on a handbag.
24:39Deb, I'm just thinking this top, which I think you said you've actually never worn before.
24:44Yeah, that's correct.
24:45I'm thinking would you wear it with a pair of denim jeans because this is sort of like
24:48an everyday look and that would make this more of a top that you would wear probably
24:52more if you could.
24:54They look amazing.
24:55You know, I'm going to make you do this again.
24:57It just gives you that little bit of length in your leg.
25:00Yeah, I like these.
25:01And a darker shoe with it.
25:01I think you look gorgeous.
25:02Chica, there's something over there I really like.
25:04Oh, really?
25:05Let's go and have a look.
25:06These, of course.
25:08That does not surprise me at all.
25:10Ooh.
25:11Ooh.
25:12I like the pattern.
25:13You love paisley.
25:14I do.
25:14That's why you love Chica's top so much.
25:17I've got a dress for you.
25:18Oh, okay.
25:19I think you should give it a go.
25:20Ooh.
25:21I think you'd be better with more of a cream base than the peachy colour.
25:26Yeah.
25:26What about the top?
25:27That would look good with the pink jeans or even just the denim ones too.
25:31Oh, I love it.
25:32I like this.
25:33I love it.
25:34That is absolutely perfect with the jeans, the cute little bag, the gold shoe.
25:38And if you wanted to, you can definitely wear this coat with it because it's sort of long
25:43enough and it's gorgeous.
25:45You're rocking it, Deb.
25:47So, Deb, that's your last look.
25:49So, why don't you get changed and we'll head you off to hair and makeup.
25:51I'm so excited, Nigel, to see what you've done to Deb.
25:58What have you done?
25:59What kind of makeup?
26:00Well, I played homage to her ballroom dancing part.
26:03Oh, I love that you did that.
26:04So, we might have a strip lash and maybe a smoky eye and a statement lip and everything in
26:09one.
26:10Now, Deb, you told me that you were going to trust me.
26:13So, here is your perfect outfit.
26:15I'm so excited to see her.
26:17This is so exciting.
26:18I hope she likes what we've put together for her.
26:26Look at you.
26:28Gorgeous.
26:29Rock star.
26:29Oh, my God, Deb, you look incredible.
26:32Those colours.
26:33Doesn't she look beautiful?
26:34Amazing.
26:35Stunning.
26:36And the makeup and the hair.
26:37Mwah.
26:37Love it.
26:38Cheers.
26:39Cheers.
26:39Cheers to you, Deb.
26:40You so deserve this.
26:41It's been an absolute treat to have met you.
26:43Thank you so very much.
26:45I'm just so happy.
26:46I love it.
26:47Well, let's enjoy.
26:48Here's to you.
26:49Oh, you gorgeous woman.
26:50Have the best time and enjoy.
26:52Oh, I will.
26:54See you later.
26:54After the break, Dr. Michael hits the streets of Melbourne to find out how addicted we are
27:04to our screens.
27:06You just get stuck in the scroll hole.
27:07Exactly.
27:08And later, it's tools down for Amy's big room rescue reveal.
27:13One, open your eyes.
27:15Oh, my God.
27:16Oh, my God.
27:17It's going to hit you in the feels.
27:19Healthy, Wealthy and Wise is brought to you by Specsavers.
27:34Welcome back to you.
27:35Now, hands up if you've ever stared at a screen for so long, your eyes feel like they've been
27:41sandblasted.
27:43Me too.
27:44Now, Dr. Michael is out on the streets of Melbourne talking to the public about digital
27:49eye strain and how we can give our poor peepers a break.
27:53Let's check it out.
27:57We live through our screens.
27:59We work.
28:00We stream.
28:01We study.
28:02Without really thinking about the impact it's having on our body.
28:05From poor sleep to eye strain, from bad posture to digital burnout, is it starting to have
28:11an effect on us?
28:12I'm in Melbourne today and we're going to speak to people about are we spending too
28:16much time on our screens and what impact is it having on our health?
28:22How many hours a day do you think you're on your phone?
28:26Too many.
28:27I'm not going to try guess because it's going to be embarrassing.
28:30Probably five or six hours.
28:33I'm on my phone every five minutes.
28:35From the second I wake up, probably until the second I fall asleep.
28:39Does it affect your sleeping?
28:40Yeah, actually it really does.
28:43Like I'll be trying really hard to go to bed at 10.30 and then I'll end up just scrolling
28:47on my phone for like two, three hours.
28:49It's so bad.
28:50Has it had any impact on your health?
28:52Yeah.
28:53Stigmatism in my right eye because I lie on my right side and I keep this eye shut and
28:57now I've got a bad eye.
28:58Do you think if somebody took your phone for a week that you'd survive?
29:02I could but I'd be really tough.
29:03Yeah, we're just so reliant on it.
29:05So we know that we're spending far too much time on our screens but actually hearing people
29:11talking about having sore eyes, headaches and dodgy sleep, it really says something and
29:16it's not just your eyes that feel the pressure.
29:19Too much screen time can lead to burnout, poor sleep and that all too familiar brain fog.
29:24So what's actually going on here?
29:26Well, it's sounding like digital eye strain but I'm no optometrist so let's speak to
29:31somebody who is to find out what exactly is going on.
29:35What Dr Mike is talking about is something that we're seeing more and more.
29:39Digital eye strain happens when your eyes stay focused on the screen for too long without
29:43a break.
29:44The muscles that help you focus are constantly working.
29:48It's like holding on to a weight with your arms bent.
29:51It starts to ache after a while.
29:53On top of that, you tend to blink much less when you're working on a screen and that can
29:58lead to dry and irritated eyes.
30:01Now add in poor lighting, bad posture or sitting too close, you've got a recipe for discomfort.
30:11Digital eye strain can creep up on you.
30:14It starts off as blurred vision.
30:16You can feel your eyes being dry and gritty and then it can give you tension in your neck,
30:21headaches and start to impact your sleep, your concentration and your life in general.
30:27And it's not just happening in adults.
30:29We're seeing more screen related vision problems in kids and teens.
30:34And that's because screen time is replacing outdoor time.
30:37We're seeing a big rise in myopia or short sightedness, especially in kids.
30:41And yes, increased screen time does play a big role in that.
30:46Younger eyes are still developing and when they spend long periods of time focusing up
30:51close without any regular breaks, it can increase the risk of myopia.
30:56The good news is it's something we can manage.
30:59Regular eye tests help us catch any changes early and we can tailor lenses or treatments
31:04to help slow things down so we can preserve long-term vision.
31:11And it doesn't just affect your eyes.
31:14These social media platforms are engineered in a way to keep you on there.
31:18And the way they do this is by getting your brain to release dopamine.
31:22That's the reward chemical.
31:23So remember, when you're watching these funny animal videos, they're there for a reason
31:27to keep you scrolling, sometimes when you end up doing scrolling late at night.
31:32So you might say, I'm going to watch one more video and it turns into four or five or 50.
31:37And the ironic thing is, the more connected you are to your phone, the more disconnected
31:41you are to the outside world.
31:43And then you've got these health trackers.
31:45You can track your sleep, you can measure your heart rate, you can count the amount of steps
31:49that you're taking in a day.
31:50And those are well and good until it becomes a full-time job and you get too obsessed about
31:55the results.
31:56We've seen lots of people who are getting anxious about how much sleep they're getting,
32:00what their heart rate's doing, and that's taking it to too much of an extreme and it can
32:04actually impact your mental health.
32:06We're seeing this kind of health tracking anxiety and that's becoming a lot more common.
32:11Digital strain is a real issue, but there are small things that you can do right now at
32:16home to help you get out of that digital cycle that we all seem to be stuck in.
32:20The first is limit your screen time, get outdoors more, move your body, get regular eye checks
32:28and take breaks when you're scrolling.
32:31There's this thing called the 20-20-20 rule, which is really useful.
32:35Every 20 minutes or so, look at something 20 feet away for about 20 seconds.
32:39It's like a quick stretch for your eyes and it really helps reset focus and reduce eye strain.
32:45But if you're still feeling the same symptoms every day, like sore eyes, blurry vision or headaches,
32:51that's a sign that you should book in for an eye examination.
32:53So sometimes to feel better, you just need to look up and get outside.
33:00Your eyes need variety.
33:01They need variety in light, colour and distance, not just another scroll session.
33:08Screens aren't the enemy.
33:10We need them in our everyday life, but it's how we manage our time on them that really counts.
33:15Your eyes and your body need a rest.
33:18Give it to them.
33:21Customers called about an overflowing drain outside.
33:24Let's go check it out.
33:30What do you think we're going to find here, Brennan?
33:32I'm betting tree root.
33:37Yeah, well, look at that.
33:39This is a perfect example of an overflowing sewer.
33:43We see this type of overflow all the time.
33:46It's never pleasant and it can be dangerous.
33:48We would see this type of job as urgent.
33:51Sewer waits for no person.
33:53F*** never sleeps.
33:56If my toilet stops working.
34:01Not the audio.
34:02Very hard to get away without a toilet.
34:05Husband fixes it.
34:06Yes.
34:06I wouldn't stop until I clear it.
34:09I always loved clearing drains.
34:10There's a sense of satisfaction when you see a completely blocked drain empty.
34:15People need to realise that what they flush ends up in their drains.
34:19I don't know where my water ends up, no.
34:22Ah, yeah, I wouldn't know where it goes.
34:24No, I don't think I have thought about it.
34:26Isn't it amazing that something so important as sewage, they don't know where it goes?
34:32All of the fixtures in your house, whether it be the kitchen sink, toilet or the shower,
34:36all end up in the same drain, it can cause issues.
34:40It's still overflowing.
34:42There's wipes that shouldn't be in the drain.
34:44I'm suspecting that we're going to find a big clump of wipes that are stuck.
34:48Which one of these belongs in the toilet?
34:51Wipes, tissues, toilet paper or all of the above?
34:56Oh, don't say it, don't say it.
34:59All of the above?
35:01No!
35:01So long as you've got the wipes that are biodegradable, then I think you can put them
35:07all in the toilet.
35:08Yeah.
35:09Don't flush them.
35:10I don't know what happens to a wipe, but I think it will stay intact for a long time.
35:14And I think that's not good for the pipes in the drain.
35:17Spot on.
35:18You should not flush wipes.
35:20They are flushable, but you can flush anything if you try hard enough.
35:24And these things cause major issues.
35:27They don't break down the same way that toilet paper does.
35:29The only thing that should be going down your toilet is the three P's.
35:34Poo, pee and paper.
35:37I'm going to grab my camera, so we need to understand what we're looking at first.
35:41The camera gives us eyes inside the pipe.
35:43If you asked a painter to paint your house with a blindfold on, it wouldn't be a very good result.
35:47We're trying to work out where the blockage is.
35:50We've gone about five metres into the drain now, and the camera's getting stuck.
35:55We can see more wipes here.
35:56So at this point, I'm now going to grab one of my sewer machines off, and we'll get the drain clear.
36:01This is an electric drain clearing machine to either grab hold of or cut out whatever the blockage is.
36:13There you go.
36:14And now all the sewer's getting away.
36:16Perfect.
36:17You see that there?
36:18The water's walking down.
36:19And we're hoping that we've got wipes on the cable of the drain clearing machine.
36:27You can see that I'm trying to pull that apart.
36:31If that was toilet paper, like this down here, toilet paper, breaks up, goes down the drain, doesn't cause damage, wipes.
36:44You can make a blanket out of that.
36:46We're ultimately responsible for the health and safety of the community.
36:50If we weren't around, drains getting blocked and staying blocked are very, very unhealthy.
36:56Clearing drains is a passion, and you have to be passionate about it, because you're doing it every day.
37:01And it's not pleasant at times, either.
37:03We're number one in the business of managing your number twos.
37:09After the break, we finally get to see how Amy's room makeover turned out.
37:14I'm hoping for goosebumps, happy tears, maybe an invite to games night.
37:20Stay tuned.
37:21We'll see you soon.
37:28This segment is brought to you by Oz Design.
37:31Furniture for life.
37:36Hey, we are back on Elby, Wobbly and Wise, and we are almost ready to wrap up.
37:41But before we go, Amy, we started this episode with you rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck into a room makeover.
37:49And it was a proper one, top to bottom, A to Z, floors and everything.
37:53It was insane.
37:55Yeah.
37:55The redo of it was just so much painting, flooring, new furniture.
38:00It turned out epic.
38:01But you know what it's like?
38:02You have a room, and you're like, oh, I'm going to style this.
38:05I'm going to do this to it.
38:06I'm going to do this.
38:07And you go on Pinterest and get all these mood boards up.
38:09Oh, my God, are you following me?
38:11But it never happens.
38:12No.
38:12It never happens.
38:13You get stuck sitting in the same room like, one day we'll do this.
38:16Yes.
38:17But we've done it.
38:18We have done it.
38:19Are we ready?
38:20Let's have a look.
38:21Let's take a look.
38:25I absolutely love this part, the final touches.
38:29Getting Tim and Annette's home this far in just over a day has been a huge effort.
38:34Oh, no.
38:38Chris, I can't believe how insane it looks.
38:40It's just softened this space so much.
38:42It was all just such hard timber before.
38:44You've killed it.
38:45Thanks.
38:45We're hanging quite big pieces of artwork here, and I don't want them to fall on Rosa or a
38:50family's head.
38:51Lucky we're going into brickwork.
38:53Got the hammer drill.
38:54If you are just doing it into a normal plaster wall, try and find the timber stud, and they'll
38:59be there for life.
39:07When thinking about the lighting in the space, you kind of want to have two different forms
39:11of light.
39:12I've gone with this gorgeous floor lamp from Oz Design, which gives you a bit more of that
39:16moody light.
39:17And then also, we've kept the old fixtures, just changed the light bulbs to a warmer white
39:22to really brighten the space up.
39:24All right.
39:25The cheeky chop.
39:26Now it's time.
39:27Let's bring the family in.
39:30Eyes closed.
39:31No peeking.
39:33All right.
39:34Remember what this looked like before.
39:36It was quite dark.
39:38The furniture was a little bit dated, needed a bit of a spruce up.
39:42There was a lot of brick.
39:44There was a lot of timber.
39:44The flooring was a bit, how are you going?
39:48And three seconds, I'm going to get you, to open your eyes.
39:52Three, two, one.
39:57Open your eyes.
39:59Holy.
39:59Wow.
39:59Oh, my goodness.
40:05That is insane.
40:07Oh, wow.
40:12The colours.
40:14That's fantastic.
40:14That is amazing.
40:17Wow.
40:17It looks massive.
40:19Everything just looks so bright.
40:21Yes.
