00:00:00In Britain, the top 10% own over half the country's wealth.
00:00:06I have nice cars. I own a couple of race horses.
00:00:09It feels nice to have money.
00:00:12But while the rich are getting richer...
00:00:14It's a very profitable business that turns over well over £10 million a year.
00:00:18The poor are getting poorer.
00:00:20It's tough.
00:00:22Hit hard by relentless price rises.
00:00:24A lot of posh people think poor people just sit on their bums all day on benefits.
00:00:29Once we've spent on food, don't really have anything left over.
00:00:33I had bailiffs come in.
00:00:36Might be on its way out.
00:00:39Now, two families are swapping homes.
00:00:42That is very different.
00:00:43Yes.
00:00:44How many windows does a house need?
00:00:46How many doors?
00:00:48Budget.
00:00:48All right, this is where I get serious.
00:00:51Oh, God.
00:00:53And lives.
00:00:54It's our bloody work.
00:00:55It was way more challenging than I thought it would be.
00:00:59Champagne!
00:01:00I'm in heaven.
00:01:01To find out if money really does buy happiness.
00:01:06I love to have a walk in order.
00:01:08Oh, my goodness.
00:01:11Never been in the limo in the last.
00:01:14Or do people matter most?
00:01:16This is the nicest family time that us three have had together in years.
00:01:21And when they finally meet...
00:01:23Hello!
00:01:25...lives are changed forever.
00:01:27We'd like to gift you a van.
00:01:31We want to back your vision to a value of £100,000.
00:01:35Oh, my God!
00:01:35It's going to change everything for the better.
00:01:45Kings Lynn, Norfolk, is home to multi-millionaire Lewis Crompton.
00:01:50We're going to have a little warm-up with this kettlebell for a start.
00:01:52OK.
00:01:53I trade financial markets and I teach others how to trade so they can become rich.
00:01:5935-year-old Lewis lives in a beautiful country house, boasting a deluxe kitchen and seven double bedrooms.
00:02:07It has four or maybe five bathrooms. I can't quite remember.
00:02:11Lovely, large reception rooms. And we're planning to do a very nice extension.
00:02:16Outside are two acres of garden, a hot tub, sauna and gym.
00:02:22It feels nice to have money. It really does.
00:02:25Lewis lives here with his husband, Josh, who is away this week.
00:02:29Cheers.
00:02:30So, wealthy best friend of three years, Helen Tudor is coming along for the swab.
00:02:35Helen, my dear, would you like some more wine?
00:02:36Yes, please.
00:02:37She's made her money from being a business mentor.
00:02:40We met at a business networking thing.
00:02:44You did.
00:02:44And we were the naughty kids at the back of the room.
00:02:46And we've been best friends ever since.
00:02:48Lewis is the drop-everything friend. Like, if there's a crisis, he will be there.
00:02:52So, how much would you say you spent on this board?
00:02:54Well, first of all, experiences are priceless.
00:02:56Wild, yes.
00:02:57But second of all, probably about 50 quid.
00:03:00He might be living the high life now, but Lewis' journey started from much more humble beginnings.
00:03:06It was in my early 20s I became ordained in the church.
00:03:10Being in the church gave me a massive sense of purpose.
00:03:15In his mid-20s, Lewis came out as gay.
00:03:19But being gay was not accepted by his church.
00:03:23I used to cry myself to sleep every night.
00:03:25I used to beg God to change who I was, to change my desires.
00:03:30I woke up and I just decided I couldn't do it anymore.
00:03:34And that came with the very painful decision of having to step away from everybody I'd known for the past
00:03:4010, 15 years of my life.
00:03:43I lost my entire world overnight.
00:03:47In 2010, looking for a new direction, Lewis spotted a course on how to buy and sell currencies.
00:03:54Trading changed my life and saved my life.
00:03:57Really strong level here.
00:03:58So even if we feel like this is trending, you're not going to want to trade above that.
00:04:02He made his first million in just five years and now runs a business teaching his tricks of the trade.
00:04:09The education company that I run is generating revenues of around 2 million per year.
00:04:15He may turn over millions, but trading can't replace one thing he got from the church.
00:04:20I miss that sense of community that gave me a real place of belonging.
00:04:30A mere 40 miles away in the town of Grantham.
00:04:34Do you want to watch Captain America?
00:04:36No.
00:04:38Life couldn't be more different for Nicole, Grant and their three growing boys who squeeze into this three-bedroom council
00:04:45house.
00:04:46My name's Ethan and I'm 11.
00:04:48This is Dalton and he's four.
00:04:51And this is Jackson and he's five.
00:04:55That's a Christmas film.
00:04:58A very wild bunch of children.
00:05:00Very active, aren't they?
00:05:01But brilliant, brilliant three boys.
00:05:04Couldn't ask for anyone better.
00:05:05We'll let you start then.
00:05:10Joyner Grant met Nicole seven years ago when she was living as a single mum with Ethan.
00:05:16That's one nil.
00:05:17We added each other on Facebook, started chatting.
00:05:22And then, like I say, asked to meet up.
00:05:25Jackson and Dalton arrive soon after and Nicole and Grant married in 2023.
00:05:31She's a great mother of our three kids.
00:05:35The younger boys share a room.
00:05:37The kitchen's tiny and the carpet's threadbare.
00:05:41Are you ready, boys?
00:05:42Yeah.
00:05:43Mm-mm-mm.
00:05:45What's going on with that?
00:05:46Life for Nicole in the Smiths household is constantly busy.
00:05:50She juggles looking after Grant, the children.
00:05:53It's a lot of work to keep everybody happy.
00:05:56And working two jobs as a dinner lady and cleaner on minimum wage.
00:06:01Just going to crack on, OK?
00:06:02I clean the school and then I clean other people's houses.
00:06:06Nicole aspires to a better job with better pay.
00:06:09My dream job would be full-time teaching assistant.
00:06:13Just so then I know that I'm helping others that might be struggling.
00:06:17But I can't do any courses because that costs money.
00:06:21Placing new being on a chair so I can have more space.
00:06:26Darts lover Grant makes 360 quid a week
00:06:29working as a joiner in a factory making conservatories.
00:06:32He's had the same job since he left school at 17.
00:06:36I want to have a better job so I can provide a lot more
00:06:41for the kids to enjoy themselves.
00:06:434-4.
00:06:44Kicking.
00:06:45But plans to change career were put on hold
00:06:48when Grant lost his stepfather two years ago.
00:06:51When my dad passed away, it affected my confidence.
00:06:55He brought me up when I was six months old.
00:06:58He was a big part of my life.
00:07:01He was like...
00:07:04Sorry.
00:07:11His dreams of a new job took a further step back
00:07:14when he lost both his front teeth to decay.
00:07:17Since he lost his teeth, that confidence has gone down
00:07:21and then he's been talking about it less and less.
00:07:23It felt very like I was in a box.
00:07:28I didn't want to come out.
00:07:29It's horrible.
00:07:29I would hate it.
00:07:31Dentures would cost over £300 on the NHS.
00:07:34On a daily basis, I always go on to my online bank
00:07:37and make sure I know what I've got in there.
00:07:40And with just £100 a week to cover everything needed
00:07:43for a family of five.
00:07:44Once we've spent on food, petrol,
00:07:47we don't really have anything left over.
00:07:50Not only are dentures a pipe dream,
00:07:52but the bills are piling up.
00:07:54Once you get into debt, it's just a vicious circle.
00:07:58I don't like admitting that you're going to a food bank.
00:08:07The Smiths may be low on cash, but they're big on community
00:08:11and play darts on the local pub team.
00:08:13It gets us out to socialise with everyone.
00:08:17But to Nicole and Grant, the children are most important of all.
00:08:22At the minute, everything goes on the kids.
00:08:24You guys absolutely love going to see the animals, don't you?
00:08:27Yeah.
00:08:27The kids are animal-obsessed.
00:08:30Show me your bare face.
00:08:33What does elephants do?
00:08:35And the Smiths have always dreamed of visiting a safari park.
00:08:39We would be looking at spending £200, £250.
00:08:45That would just be impossible, yeah.
00:08:48Is it all done?
00:08:49Right there, right here.
00:08:50Right there?
00:08:51You OK, buddies?
00:08:53So, what are Nicole and Grant hoping to get
00:08:55from a weak living like the other half?
00:08:58It would be good to know how they've done
00:09:00and what they've done to get to where they are.
00:09:02Put your goggles back on.
00:09:03Will everybody rip?
00:09:05No.
00:09:06I am not confident,
00:09:08but I think they might be a bit more confident in themselves.
00:09:12Go!
00:09:13What I'm hoping is the confidence of the other family
00:09:17will rub off and grant.
00:09:20You've actually had a brilliant month,
00:09:21one of our best months for the past six months.
00:09:23Very happy about that.
00:09:26And why do Helen and Lewis want to give up their life of luxury?
00:09:29We just want to help people make that decision
00:09:31to make a change in their life
00:09:33because it only happened for me because I made a decision.
00:09:36Deep down, he is passionate about people and helping people.
00:09:40Watch Daddy's feet.
00:09:46Have you got your suitcase packed, Dalton?
00:09:48Um, no.
00:09:50No?
00:09:51It's just, obviously, going out of my comfort zone.
00:09:54I'm looking forward to see how it's like living in a rich house.
00:09:58It probably feels like luxury.
00:10:01I'm going to miss my air conditioning unit in my bedroom,
00:10:04so if they don't have one of those,
00:10:06I might struggle to sleep.
00:10:08Boys, are you helping with the bags?
00:10:10Shall we pop them in the car?
00:10:11Yeah.
00:10:12Yeah?
00:10:12Yeah, let's go.
00:10:14I can help you.
00:10:15I can help you.
00:10:18Bye-bye, house.
00:10:19See you later.
00:10:22It's only 40 miles between the two houses,
00:10:25but they're worlds apart.
00:10:27So this is Grantham.
00:10:29Have you been before?
00:10:30Um, I've never been to Grantham, no.
00:10:32I've driven past it a lot.
00:10:35There's not that many houses on this street.
00:10:37Well, road.
00:10:38Well, yeah, yeah, this road.
00:10:40This is it.
00:10:41This is literally it.
00:10:43Oh, wow, this is a proper...
00:10:44Oh, look at this.
00:10:46That's so nice.
00:10:47How many windows does a house need?
00:10:49How many doors?
00:10:50I'm very relieved that this house is going to have at least two bedrooms.
00:10:53At least.
00:10:53So we won't have to share a room.
00:10:54No.
00:10:55So as much as I love you,
00:10:57I'm glad to not have to share a bed with you.
00:11:00You ready?
00:11:01Yeah.
00:11:01Next, Nicole and Grant get 20 times their normal budget to live on.
00:11:06What?
00:11:08My legs feel like jelly.
00:11:10And Grant's life is about to change forever.
00:11:12We've got your denture ready?
00:11:14Oh, fat.
00:11:15While Lewis returns to a life with no money.
00:11:18I feel very trapped in this situation,
00:11:21and I don't have to live here every single day.
00:11:27For the Smiths, being stuck in a tiny house in Lincolnshire,
00:11:31drowning in £12,000 of debt, the day-to-day is a battle.
00:11:36Once you get into debt, it's just a vicious circle.
00:11:39I don't like admitting that you're going to a food bank.
00:11:43While just 40 miles away, millionaire Lewis Crompton lives a life of luxury in a million-pound country house.
00:11:51It feels nice to have money.
00:11:52This is one of my favourite bits of art.
00:11:54I bought this when I hit a million pounds in the business.
00:12:00For one week, that's all about to change.
00:12:03Oh, wow.
00:12:05Oh, my God.
00:12:06Are you ready?
00:12:07Go.
00:12:08Look at the garden.
00:12:10Wow.
00:12:12Look, it goes all the way back.
00:12:14Look at this.
00:12:15There's a hot tub down there.
00:12:16Do you want to open the door?
00:12:18Let's go.
00:12:19That's it.
00:12:19Let's have a look.
00:12:21Oh, wow.
00:12:23Oh, my God.
00:12:24Oh, no, I like this.
00:12:26That is awesome.
00:12:27I wonder what they do.
00:12:29Let's do it.
00:12:31Right.
00:12:31Moment of truth.
00:12:36Oh, wow.
00:12:37This carpet, it's incredibly threadbare.
00:12:40Yes.
00:12:41Oh, my goodness.
00:12:42Three boys.
00:12:43Three boys.
00:12:44The hunt is on for clues about their mystery hosts.
00:12:47So, we know one of them is called Ethan.
00:12:49Do we?
00:12:51Unless he's just spelt a random name.
00:12:52Let's have a look.
00:12:54Ah, this is like the living room.
00:12:56TV!
00:12:57TV.
00:12:58Elite performance.
00:13:01Oh, I wonder what that could be.
00:13:03Expert unleashed.
00:13:06So, he's an expert on something.
00:13:08But what?
00:13:10Well, they're obviously very good at darts.
00:13:13They're flipping good because men's division winner,
00:13:17couples runner-up.
00:13:19Shall we go and investigate what's inside here?
00:13:22Yeah.
00:13:23Oh, wow.
00:13:24This is not your normal barn, is it?
00:13:26Yeah.
00:13:27Oh, look at this.
00:13:29Oh, wow.
00:13:30Can you actually turn it on?
00:13:32No, I don't want to turn it on.
00:13:34You've got to see how powerful it is.
00:13:36Oh, I think I might go in the jacuzzi later
00:13:39and then pop myself in there.
00:13:41Warm myself up.
00:13:43Oh, OK.
00:13:44Kitchen.
00:13:45I mean, they've got an air fryer.
00:13:46So, we'll be fine.
00:13:47I mean, it's not the Arga, but you didn't use the Arga anyway.
00:13:49No.
00:13:50Go away upstairs.
00:13:51Now to work out the sleeping arrangements.
00:13:53With seven bedrooms to choose from,
00:13:56the Smiths are spoilt for choice.
00:13:58What's in this one?
00:13:59Oh, that's daddies!
00:14:00You think we're going to stay in this one, yeah?
00:14:03I do like the...
00:14:04Oh, I do like the wallpaper and stuff.
00:14:08Hey, you said this was our bedroom.
00:14:10What are you doing?
00:14:12So, first bedroom, and it is Jackson.
00:14:15There we go.
00:14:16This is a proper boys' room, isn't it?
00:14:18Now, I'm seeing Jackson and Dalton.
00:14:21Ah, OK, yeah.
00:14:21This chair, maybe.
00:14:23Well, this must be Ethan's room.
00:14:26I will say, very entrepreneurial.
00:14:28Solving problem.
00:14:29It does need a ladder.
00:14:31Oh, this is a good one, isn't it?
00:14:33What is that one for you?
00:14:34Jackson.
00:14:35Jackson.
00:14:37While the two youngest boys get their own room
00:14:39for the first time ever...
00:14:41Oh, nice little suit there, look.
00:14:43..Nicole and Grant explore Lewis's wardrobe.
00:14:46Pretend you're a businessman.
00:14:49Oh, and my shorts.
00:14:51That's a nice book.
00:14:52That's my wardrobe, no.
00:14:56Over in Grantham, Lewis and Helen's choice
00:14:59is a lot more limited in the three-bedroom council house
00:15:02to Smith's rent for £1,000 a month.
00:15:06OK, so this is Mum and Dad's room then, I think.
00:15:08There's obviously a bit of cosmetic stuff to be done.
00:15:11You can have the big bed.
00:15:13Thank you very much.
00:15:13I'm going to have the bunk bed.
00:15:16OK, so this is a bathroom.
00:15:20There's no shower.
00:15:21There's just a bath.
00:15:22How long must it take to bath five people every day?
00:15:27Imagine the mornings.
00:15:29With five bathrooms to pick from,
00:15:31that won't be a problem for the Smiths this week.
00:15:41Now it's the moment everyone's been waiting for.
00:15:46Should we do this?
00:15:47Yes.
00:15:47How much spending money do they have?
00:15:50You ready?
00:15:51Yeah.
00:15:51Open.
00:15:53Oh.
00:15:54Oh, my God.
00:15:56Oh, my God.
00:15:57Can you pick it up?
00:16:00Have you ever had that much money in your hand in one time?
00:16:03No.
00:16:04My legs feel like jelly.
00:16:07118.50 pence.
00:16:09118.60 pence.
00:16:12118.64.
00:16:16It's not a lot of money.
00:16:17No.
00:16:18That's quite a reality check, actually.
00:16:2317, 18, 19.
00:16:26Two grand.
00:16:27Two grand.
00:16:28Oh, my God.
00:16:29Two thousand pounds right in front of us.
00:16:33Oh, wow.
00:16:35With an on-the-nose two grand...
00:16:37Ethan!
00:16:38..the Smiths have 20 times more than Lewis and Helen to spend.
00:16:42Come here.
00:16:43Come in here, look.
00:16:44Look what we got here.
00:16:46Two thousand pounds.
00:16:52That's more what I get a month.
00:16:56Now to find out what they'll be doing across the week.
00:17:00Budget food shop.
00:17:02I knew this was going to be on the list.
00:17:04Hot date.
00:17:06Oh, so we are definitely going in there.
00:17:08Can you remember the last time we went on a date?
00:17:11No.
00:17:12Cleaning job.
00:17:13This is going to be you.
00:17:14I ain't doing that.
00:17:16Oh, spending spree.
00:17:17That one, Mum, you can do alone.
00:17:19Yeah, you guys can stay at home.
00:17:21That is coming in a long move, yeah.
00:17:24After a long day, it's finally time for dinner.
00:17:28So whoever gets closest to a bullseye...
00:17:30Yep.
00:17:30..doesn't have to cook dinner.
00:17:32Let's go.
00:17:3235-year-old millionaire Lewis spends most of his time dining out.
00:17:37He rarely cooks.
00:17:38He's also never thrown a dart in his life.
00:17:44What the actual...
00:17:47Shut up!
00:17:50With more than Grant's entire monthly salary to spend,
00:17:53there'll be no cooking in Kings Lynn.
00:17:56Oh, babes, look what I've got.
00:17:58Oh, menus, yeah.
00:18:00Right.
00:18:01We can go for anything.
00:18:04We can go for that.
00:18:05Burger.
00:18:06Burger?
00:18:07You want a burger?
00:18:08And what are you having, baby?
00:18:09Sat down there.
00:18:11So after half an hour of screaming and shouting,
00:18:14I think we're going to have burger wraps and onion rings.
00:18:20And the grown-ups are going to have a Chinese.
00:18:22Definitely duck, because you don't have duck, ever.
00:18:27Where would pans be?
00:18:28Meanwhile, in the cash-strapped Grantham household...
00:18:31He's finding a way around someone else's kitchen.
00:18:34Not in one.
00:18:36Oh, God.
00:18:38Oh, I found a toastie maker.
00:18:43Victory!
00:18:44Helen is having to make do with what she can find left in the fridge.
00:18:48Right, so let's see what we've got.
00:18:50Well, we've got cheese and we've got ham.
00:18:52I'm aware of budget, so we're just going to go for two slices each.
00:18:56Oh, I can't wait to eat this.
00:18:57Boys, look what's here.
00:19:00Quick.
00:19:01Well, Daddy's going to eat it all.
00:19:03So we spent £74.50 on a takeaway.
00:19:07£74 on tea for five people.
00:19:11That's more than their normal weekly food budget gone in one phone call.
00:19:16Do you like it?
00:19:17No!
00:19:18Lewis and Helen's dinner is a long way from the £200 meals out they're used to.
00:19:24Toasters and pizzas, better caught with scissors.
00:19:27Oh, look at you.
00:19:30There we go.
00:19:31Chef S.
00:19:32I don't know.
00:19:33Right.
00:19:34Ready?
00:19:35Cheers.
00:19:35Cheers.
00:19:39There's one last task before bed.
00:19:42Each day, they'll record a secret diary in the most private room in the house.
00:19:48Wow, what a day.
00:19:50When we found the money in the kitchen, I was gobsmacked.
00:19:55It's really not a lot of money for a family of five to have to live on.
00:20:01And I think over the week, it's going to become more and more apparent how far that doesn't go.
00:20:06Night, Helen.
00:20:07Night.
00:20:12Day two.
00:20:13And after just one night, the reality of budget living is hitting home.
00:20:17I woke up quite early because the blinds aren't very good at keeping the light out.
00:20:22Oh, my goodness.
00:20:22Just remembered.
00:20:23There's no shower.
00:20:25How on earth am I going to wash my hair?
00:20:26I have to, like, I used to do it with my mum and do it over the bath with a
00:20:30jug.
00:20:30Right, you ready?
00:20:31Yeah.
00:20:32Three, two, one.
00:20:38Now, do I need to wash in some shampoo?
00:20:40Yeah.
00:20:40Flippin' heck.
00:20:42Most of us take our morning showers for granted, but 14% of UK homes don't have one.
00:20:48Washing my hair in the bath.
00:20:49My back was hurting, my knees were hurting.
00:20:52That was an experience.
00:20:58In Kings Lynn...
00:20:59Very comfortable.
00:21:00Nicole and Grant have yet to leave their goose-feather duvet.
00:21:04I really didn't want to wake up.
00:21:06It's so comfy in this new bed.
00:21:09I do feel sorry for the other people sleeping in our bed.
00:21:13Yeah, let's go.
00:21:15Do you think there's going to be enough space to play football?
00:21:17Yeah.
00:21:18Get it.
00:21:19Lewis's garden is 50 times bigger than theirs.
00:21:22One in eight British homes don't even have a garden.
00:21:25It's massive.
00:21:26It's just like your very own football pitch.
00:21:28See, look, we don't need to go to a park anymore.
00:21:30We can just go in the garden.
00:21:33Oh, nearly.
00:21:35The children were keen to run around because there's plenty of space to run around in.
00:21:41Whoa.
00:21:43Lewis gets the highest quality food delivered straight to his door every Thursday,
00:21:49which means the Smiths can look forward to a lavish slap-up brekkie.
00:21:53Good morning.
00:21:54Hang on.
00:21:55Oh, hello.
00:21:56Good morning.
00:21:57Good morning, I've got a delivery for you from Samuel's Farm Shop and Butchers.
00:22:01Oh, lovely.
00:22:02Shall we go ahead?
00:22:02Here is one box for you.
00:22:04Have you got a strong hand?
00:22:05Oh, we've got strong arms, dude.
00:22:08Lewis's shop for two of fruit, vegetables, meat and cheese
00:22:12is over three times what the Smiths spend for a family of five.
00:22:17Crikey.
00:22:18So the shopping's just cost £219.31.
00:22:24That pork costs £17.
00:22:28The pork we normally have is like a fiver.
00:22:31Yeah.
00:22:34There was a few items in the hamper that was way out of our budget.
00:22:38However, I'm sure they're going to taste absolutely divine.
00:22:41I'm going to have a drink.
00:22:42Strawberry's!
00:22:43Yeah.
00:22:44All good?
00:22:44Yeah?
00:22:47Over in Grantham, after a modestly priced brekkie...
00:22:51Delicioso.
00:22:52...Helen finds some telling paperwork.
00:22:55Oh, this is all the...debt.
00:22:56So I found a loan agreement for £12,000 here and a credit card that's got nearly £1,000 on
00:23:06it.
00:23:06Helen has made a fortune teaching entrepreneurs how to grow their business.
00:23:11She's a mum of four and, like Lewis, struggled her way to the top.
00:23:16My business came from desperation.
00:23:18I was a single mum in £90,000 worth of personal debt.
00:23:22It was horrendous.
00:23:24The house was falling into disrepair because I was just kind of going month by month.
00:23:28I started my business so I could give my girls a different life than we were experiencing.
00:23:33I was, like, building my business in my spare time and being a mum and holding down a job.
00:23:38And I remember what it's like to live like this and feel like every penny is a decision.
00:23:42It really makes things difficult.
00:23:44So I sympathise with them deeply.
00:23:49With Lewis and Helen keen to learn more about the Smiths' life...
00:23:54Hello. You must be Steph.
00:23:56Oh, yeah. Hi. Nice to meet you.
00:23:57Nicole's older sister, Steph, who lives in the next street, pops round for a brew.
00:24:03We're very eager to find out everything we possibly can.
00:24:06Brilliant. I'll try and help.
00:24:07We don't know a lot at all.
00:24:09So what about that £12,000 debt?
00:24:12They've had to replace the car and more recently, again,
00:24:15we had to have a lot of work done on the car.
00:24:18And then we planned a wedding.
00:24:19We pretty much tried to do everything we could ourselves to keep costs down.
00:24:23Yeah. But that took a good whack.
00:24:25Wow. Where does Grant work?
00:24:28He works in a local factory with woodwork.
00:24:31He wants to come away from where he's been for so long.
00:24:35But when he lost his teeth, it definitely affected his self-confidence.
00:24:38He sort of went very quiet, reserved, kind of stayed where he's comfortable.
00:24:43I found that upsetting on his behalf.
00:24:46I can only imagine how defeating that must feel.
00:24:49You want to fix this thing, but you just can't because the money isn't there in the budget.
00:24:56Steph helped Nicole get back to work after having Dalton and Jackson.
00:25:00We managed to eventually get her into a school when the dinner lady job came up
00:25:05and then the cleaning side at the school, so she could do that in an evening.
00:25:09So I'm guessing she works at school because that fits in with the boys and the school holidays.
00:25:15So has she got like a dream?
00:25:18It's quite difficult really because obviously having children and things,
00:25:22I think the main thing really is to get to a teaching assistant job,
00:25:26purely because then it's still within school time.
00:25:29Tell us more about the boys.
00:25:30What do they enjoy other than just being football mad?
00:25:33The boys absolutely adore animals when we go to the zoo once a year because it's so expensive
00:25:38and they look out for all the big cats.
00:25:40And I know as a mum you want to give your children absolutely anything
00:25:44and everything they could possibly want and you just can't do that.
00:25:49It's really making me think about the ways in which I can help them eliminate that debt.
00:25:54Just do something to help them not have that burden.
00:25:58Coming up, for Lewis and Helen, the local community is a revelation.
00:26:03It's having that ability to sort of step away from everything at home,
00:26:06play some darts, have a chat.
00:26:08We've got plenty of tests.
00:26:10With 20 times their normal weekly budget to spend,
00:26:13the Smiths splash out on the kids.
00:26:15Look, your brother's already ziming.
00:26:17I'm really happy.
00:26:18This is the best bike I've ever had.
00:26:21And they get a day out beyond their wildest dreams.
00:26:25It's amazing how close we can get.
00:26:27Oh my God, they're going right out.
00:26:29It's pacing as it's jumping in.
00:26:3435-year-old currency trader Lewis and best mate Helen are in Grantham,
00:26:40having swapped lives and homes with the Smith family.
00:26:43There's no shower.
00:26:44How on earth am I going to wash my hands?
00:26:48They've discovered just how much debt Grant and Nicole are in.
00:26:51I remember what it's like to live like this
00:26:53and feel like every penny is a decision.
00:26:56So I sympathise with them deeply.
00:26:58And why Grant hasn't managed to get himself a better job.
00:27:02When he lost his teeth, it definitely affected his self-confidence.
00:27:05It's horrible.
00:27:06I would hate it.
00:27:08Day three of their week-long swap.
00:27:10In Grantham, not having a shower is still causing problems.
00:27:15I've got to roll to the side to wash under my arm,
00:27:19then roll to the other side to wash under the other arm.
00:27:22I'm not very good at baths, it turns out.
00:27:25So, yeah, I don't know how they do this every single day with five of them.
00:27:29Here we go.
00:27:30Lewis and Helen are still surviving on what Nicole and Grant left behind in the cupboards.
00:27:35It's pointing at me.
00:27:37Ready?
00:27:37Yeah, cheers.
00:27:38Cheers.
00:27:39It really did remind me of those times in my life
00:27:42where I did not have the money I needed to eat the way I knew I should eat.
00:27:47I should have cut this and half from there.
00:27:48What?
00:27:50I'm not used to making sandwiches.
00:27:53Money's no object in King's Lynn.
00:27:55With £2,000 for the weekly budget,
00:27:59Nicole and Grant can afford to give the boys anything they want
00:28:02for the first time in their lives.
00:28:04And there's one thing that's absolutely top of the list.
00:28:08Right, come on then.
00:28:09All three boys absolutely love riding bikes.
00:28:13Ethan has a second-hand bike that was covered in paint.
00:28:16When we bought it, Dalton's balance bike is definitely ready for the tip.
00:28:21Follow me, follow me. You can do it. Keep going.
00:28:24Hi, you little cheeky.
00:28:26You can open it now, Ethan.
00:28:29Oh!
00:28:30Look at them.
00:28:31They've splashed out £800 on three new bikes.
00:28:35Is he already zooming? Look, your brother's already zooming.
00:28:42I'm really happy.
00:28:44This is the best bike I've ever had.
00:28:47Ding, ding!
00:28:48You want me to sit on it?
00:28:54In Grantham, after two days surviving on sandwiches,
00:28:58there's now nothing left in the cupboards.
00:29:01We're going to go shopping.
00:29:02We're going to go shopping.
00:29:03For some food?
00:29:04Because I have to have food.
00:29:04We're going to go shopping some vegetables,
00:29:05because I've not had a vegetable for eight hours.
00:29:08I might get rickets.
00:29:10Lewis and Helen are about to find out what it feels like to shop on a budget.
00:29:15They only have £100 to cover everything for the week.
00:29:18We have set ourselves a little challenge.
00:29:21We want to see who can fill their basket for £15.
00:29:24Right.
00:29:25Five minutes.
00:29:25See you then.
00:29:26See you then.
00:29:29I'm not very good at sticking to a budget.
00:29:31I also am very bad at portion control.
00:29:33So we'll see how this goes.
00:29:36So these are cheaper.
00:29:37Ooh, maybe not.
00:29:39Just get orange pepper.
00:29:42£1 for a pie.
00:29:44But I feel like this will go further.
00:29:49I'm on about £3.50 so far.
00:29:51But I'm struggling because I didn't realise how expensive fruit was.
00:29:57So I've just realised I've gone for all this reduced stuff, which is brilliant,
00:30:00but I haven't thought about how to actually turn them into a meal.
00:30:03Both Lewis and Helen are realising being on a budget comes with tough choices.
00:30:08So I love sushi, but it's 50p over the whole basket budget.
00:30:12No sushi platter for Lewis and I today.
00:30:15This I really want, but it might break my budget.
00:30:18But we're getting close now.
00:30:19Where am I at?
00:30:20Yeah.
00:30:22Right, I'm going to have to say goodbye pork scratchings.
00:30:25They've spent just under £30 in total.
00:30:29But what's in their baskets?
00:30:31Wow, that's quite a big haul.
00:30:33So we've got a pasta dish, a rice dish and we've got an oriental dish.
00:30:39And what about Lewis's close to use-by date reduced food?
00:30:43So this has all got to be eaten today.
00:30:46I'm going to have to eat a lot of nearly off ham sausages and prawns tonight.
00:30:50So that'll be fun.
00:30:52I was very conscious that every pound we spent was a pound we couldn't spend somewhere else.
00:30:57I think if you were going to have that burden on your decision-making every single day, that must get
00:31:03very draining.
00:31:08Lewis's dad, Peter, has helped him renovate his home.
00:31:12Today, he's building him a deck for outdoor dining.
00:31:15My dad is a role model to me.
00:31:18This is why I just definitely get emotional.
00:31:22My dad is one of the most virtuous men I've ever met in my life.
00:31:26My dad will do right by anybody, even if he's been wronged by them.
00:31:30Hello.
00:31:31Hello.
00:31:31Hello.
00:31:32How are you?
00:31:34How long have you got?
00:31:37Can you tell me a little bit about how Lewis was as a child to then how he's become so
00:31:43successful now?
00:31:44Lewis got quite involved in the local church and he was volunteering.
00:31:48He then was struggling with his sexuality and they basically threw him out when they found out.
00:31:53And he'd known these people for a long time and then as soon as he came out...
00:31:56Came out, that's where.
00:31:58So he then had massive, you know, what the heck was happening in my life, why am I not accepted?
00:32:05His mother and I both surmised that he may be.
00:32:08He never really sat us down.
00:32:11Can you sort of study this piece for me here?
00:32:14I sure can.
00:32:15I chop this.
00:32:17It's quite eye-opening that Lewis finally came out
00:32:21to find out that everybody in that community then was, like I say, pushing him away, pushed him out.
00:32:27How has he gone from, like I say, all-time low to now being where he is?
00:32:31I think fundamentally he had all the skill sets, right, to recover.
00:32:37And it took him a little bit of time to do that.
00:32:39He said to me one day, which I eternally regret,
00:32:42I want to borrow £7,000 off your dad.
00:32:44I said, what for?
00:32:45And he said, I want to go on a course to do with finances.
00:32:49And I said, no, I don't want to really, Lewis.
00:32:51I said, just go and get a job.
00:32:54Instead, Lewis took out a £7,000 loan to fund the course he felt sure would change his fortunes.
00:33:01He got more and more into the financial exchange market trading.
00:33:04And now he's doing really, really well and going from strength to strength to strength.
00:33:10It was great to know the background of Lewis
00:33:12and how he's got himself into the trading side of things.
00:33:17I have heard about trading, but I've always thought that's too complicated,
00:33:22you know, out of my reach.
00:33:23And I would love to explore that a little bit more in this week
00:33:27and find out, actually, if it is for anybody and everybody.
00:33:36Let's have a bit of this time.
00:33:39Oh, yes.
00:33:40What better place to ponder on what they've learnt so far
00:33:43than in Lewis's deluxe hot tub?
00:33:46Don't quite think it's a perfect day for it, but it's our day for it.
00:33:51It's so picturesque, isn't it?
00:33:53Looks amazing.
00:33:55With Grant's mind not preoccupied with running out of money for once,
00:33:59he can reflect on his relationship with his own father.
00:34:02It was lovely helping Lewis's dad,
00:34:06because it reminded me,
00:34:09because me and my dad was very close,
00:34:14and I used to help him quite a lot.
00:34:16Yeah.
00:34:19Grant's stepdad died four years ago.
00:34:22It brought me back to that connection of not just father and son,
00:34:28but our best pals.
00:34:33I thought that the best part of me has gone,
00:34:37because my dad's passed away.
00:34:40What do you think your dad would have said
00:34:44if he knew that we was, like, say, in a hot tub,
00:34:47sipping posh champagne?
00:34:49What friends did you hopped over?
00:34:54Ever since he left the church ten years ago,
00:34:57Lewis has been looking for a new, more accepting community.
00:35:01Today he's visiting the Smiths' local pub with Helen.
00:35:04Hello, hello.
00:35:05Hello, I'm Brian. Nice to meet you both.
00:35:07Very nice to meet you.
00:35:07Welcome to the Three Gay Wolves.
00:35:09They're meeting Brian,
00:35:11one of Nicole and Grant's darts team buddies.
00:35:14So, Nicole and Grant come to this pub,
00:35:16and they play darts.
00:35:17Do you know why they started playing?
00:35:19I think it's the social aspect.
00:35:21Yeah.
00:35:22It's having that ability to sort of step away from everything at home,
00:35:25play some darts, have a chat,
00:35:26and it is just enjoyable and it's fun.
00:35:28Yeah.
00:35:28So, tell us about them as a couple, then.
00:35:30A very loving couple.
00:35:32They're sort of very happy people.
00:35:34Yeah.
00:35:34We're happy to come and have a chat with anyone.
00:35:36Brilliant.
00:35:36How do you guys feel about playing a bit of darts?
00:35:38I'm well up for it.
00:35:39Because I'd like to put you to a challenge on Thursday.
00:35:42Okay.
00:35:42Okay.
00:35:42To actually play a match.
00:35:44A match?
00:35:465-0-1?
00:35:47Yeah.
00:35:47Oh, brilliant.
00:35:48I don't know what that is, but I'm up for it.
00:35:50So, we have to hit a double to start as well as a double to finish.
00:35:54Jesus.
00:35:54Just to let you know.
00:35:56I don't have a double time, that's what I tell you.
00:35:57Shut up, Julie.
00:35:57Me and Nicky are a fist pump.
00:35:59While Helen steps up to the ockie.
00:36:02Unlucky, Helen.
00:36:04Lewis is sidetracked by the bar crowd.
00:36:07One of them turns out to be Grant's brother, Gary.
00:36:10You all right?
00:36:10I'm Lewis, by the way.
00:36:11Gary.
00:36:11I've actually been introduced.
00:36:13Gary.
00:36:13Nice to meet you.
00:36:14I'm just trying to find out more about Grant, so...
00:36:17It's a chance for Lewis to learn how Grant was affected by losing his dad.
00:36:21It was so unexpected.
00:36:23He had a heart attack.
00:36:24Oh, wow.
00:36:24How do you think that impacted Grant?
00:36:28Grant sort of pummeled.
00:36:29Tell me what that means.
00:36:30What did that look like for him?
00:36:32A bit like a depression state.
00:36:33He just went back into that, I'm not going to do anything.
00:36:37When it first happened, I don't think he'd come out for at least three, four months after.
00:36:41Wow.
00:36:42And then after that, he sort of, we sort of pushed him towards it.
00:36:49It was sad to hear that story, and it was even sadder to hear how much that had impacted Grant.
00:36:56I just can't imagine not having my dad, my rock, there every single day,
00:37:01going to dial the phone and not having my dad on the other end.
00:37:05Lewis is also keen to learn how losing two front teeth has impacted Grant.
00:37:10Do you think it affects him?
00:37:12Massively.
00:37:13It went to the point where he got to wear the balaclava for weeks on end,
00:37:17because he wouldn't dare take it down.
00:37:19Every single person we spoke to in the pub is just so aware of how Grant's confidence is not.
00:37:25It would be amazing to find a way to help him.
00:37:29I can see why they come here and play darts.
00:37:32I can see why they like being part of this community.
00:37:35Brilliant pub.
00:37:36Yeah, it's been great.
00:37:38Oh, there we go, down and down we go.
00:37:40And all its cost is £12 for a round of drinks.
00:37:46Yay!
00:37:49Oh, well played. We got a point.
00:37:51Yes!
00:37:52Our first ever competitive darts point.
00:37:58Next, Nicole and Grant hear what trading could get you.
00:38:01Make a million in ten years to be able to travel, to give to Australia and sail about Croatia.
00:38:07Boys, look what's to come through the post.
00:38:09Grant could be about to see a massive life change.
00:38:13I've enclosed the money. Enjoy Lewis.
00:38:15Wow.
00:38:16I was blown away.
00:38:19And Lewis learns of Nicole's sacrifices.
00:38:22She's kind of holding off on her own ambitions and doing these really hard jobs because they fit in and
00:38:28around family life.
00:38:30And I just think that's a really special thing to do.
00:38:35Hello.
00:38:36Grant and Nicole have learnt how Lewis lost the church community he once had.
00:38:41As soon as he came out, they basically threw him out.
00:38:44I lost my entire world overnight.
00:38:46I end up getting chronic fatigue.
00:38:48Lewis has struggled with living on a budget.
00:38:51Peppers are expensive.
00:38:52If you were going to have that burden on your decision making every single day, that must get very, very
00:38:59tiring indeed.
00:39:00And Grant opened up on how much he misses his late father.
00:39:04I thought the best part of me has gone because my dad passed away.
00:39:12Day four in King's Lynn.
00:39:14Ethan!
00:39:16So, Dan in.
00:39:16Nicole's discovering not everything about an enormous house is an advantage.
00:39:21I don't think Ethan's going to hear me, is he?
00:39:24Ethan!
00:39:25Where is he?
00:39:27Are you coming for breakfast?
00:39:31Weird.
00:39:32He did.
00:39:32He's coming.
00:39:34While in Grantham.
00:39:35Don't buy the tap.
00:39:37I haven't got the budget for new taps.
00:39:39After shopping yesterday, Lewis and Helen are starting to understand what it means to survive on the bread line.
00:39:46Ready?
00:39:47Whoa!
00:39:49They've come up with a super cheap £10 shower solution.
00:39:52That is actually really good.
00:39:53It's really good.
00:39:56I was able to wash my hair with fresh, clean, warm water using the shower attachment and it was great.
00:40:03But it leaves them with just £50 of their £100 budget left.
00:40:10OK, so, welcome everybody then.
00:40:12Back in his normal life, Lewis turned £20,000 into a million pounds in just five years.
00:40:18We are all here because we want to learn the skill of trading.
00:40:21Now he teaches people how to trade with the help of colleague Josh.
00:40:26Nicole and Grant are joining one of Josh's classes.
00:40:30Does anyone want to share some of the reasons on their list?
00:40:32He starts by finding out what they hope trading will get them.
00:40:37Mine is to make a million in ten years to be able to travel, to go to Australia and sail
00:40:42about Croatia.
00:40:43Amazing stuff.
00:40:44Anybody else?
00:40:45Travel two times a month.
00:40:47And I'm Ferrari to California.
00:40:49So I bought my pension.
00:40:51Yep.
00:40:52So early retirement.
00:40:54I'll support that and live the life without the restraints.
00:40:57Yep.
00:40:57And get your garden and more Mustangs.
00:40:59Absolutely.
00:41:00Is that on the list as well?
00:41:02See, I've kind of got a similar one to that one, to own my very own blue Nissan GT-R.
00:41:07Nice.
00:41:08Is it easy to, like, follow the training?
00:41:10I didn't know anything about training.
00:41:12Yeah.
00:41:12Yeah.
00:41:13I mean, I think if I'd have thought of training before, I'd have been like, that is not me in
00:41:17a million year.
00:41:18But just learning the strategies, having the support of the coaches, and then...
00:41:23I think anyone...
00:41:24With no free time and £12,000 of debt, could trading ever be right for Nicole?
00:41:30After the session, they have the chance to question Josh.
00:41:33How much did you have to put in the trading?
00:41:37I was skint.
00:41:38So I actually started with a very, very small account.
00:41:40I only started with about £300.
00:41:43You put some money into something, and then the, like, investments increase, or it decreases, doesn't it?
00:41:50Yeah.
00:41:50So the fact that you know nothing about it is absolutely fine, because when Lewis started learning how to trade,
00:41:55he knew nothing about trading either.
00:41:57And the majority of people who join us know nothing about trading, myself included.
00:42:01So you're saying that we could possibly start doing this as well?
00:42:05If you can find half an hour per day to actually learn a skill, then absolutely.
00:42:11The session with Josh today has been absolutely fantastic.
00:42:16This could be something to do alongside becoming a TA.
00:42:20I'm actually excited about it.
00:42:25Over in Grantham, Lewis and Helen are back at the Three Gables pub.
00:42:30But not for the darts match.
00:42:31They're taking on one of Nicole's many cleaning shifts.
00:42:35Have you done the cleaning job before?
00:42:37I used to be a cleaner.
00:42:39Yeah?
00:42:39I got fired.
00:42:40Just because I was terrible.
00:42:42It was terrible.
00:42:43Yeah.
00:42:43Right, OK.
00:42:44Not today, hey?
00:42:45Not today.
00:42:45Not today.
00:42:46All right, leave you to it.
00:42:47Thanks.
00:42:47Thanks.
00:42:48Nicole would do this whole lounge area for £12.21.
00:42:52It smells like I'm going to get a headache.
00:42:56That's what it smells like.
00:42:57I only see the windows there.
00:42:58Yeah.
00:42:59Right.
00:43:00Lewis and Helen pay for home help rather than use their own elbow grease.
00:43:04Between them, they've spent over 15 grand on cleaners in the last three years.
00:43:09I'm getting a bit of a sweat on doing all this to me.
00:43:11It's warm in the window.
00:43:12I tell you what, I've lent down here to get on these and I just got a bit comfy.
00:43:20It's time for your afternoon nap.
00:43:21It is.
00:43:22This is nap time for me.
00:43:23I thought I'd be absolutely fine, but I was really tired by it, but so much quicker than
00:43:27I thought I would be.
00:43:29Nicole works hard.
00:43:30Nicole works really hard.
00:43:32Just to let you know, we will be opening up in about 20, 25 minutes.
00:43:36Oh, wow.
00:43:36Right, we're done.
00:43:37So, yeah.
00:43:45It's our bloody work.
00:43:46It's the one arm.
00:43:47I'm like, oh my God.
00:43:49It gave me a different level of appreciation for what Nicole has to do every single day.
00:43:55She's kind of holding off on her own ambitions and doing these types of really hard jobs because
00:44:01they fit in and around family life and I just think that's a really special thing to do.
00:44:05I'm pretty tired from this cleaning job, to be fair.
00:44:08I'm tired.
00:44:08You sound a bit out of breath.
00:44:10I am.
00:44:11I'm still trying to formulate the best way to help this family in a long-term, ongoing way.
00:44:20In Kings Lane.
00:44:21There's quite a lot of jobs that I can see that's in the local area.
00:44:26Nicole's helping join a gran on his journey by supporting him in looking for new work.
00:44:33Give them a call, see if they'll invite you in for an interview.
00:44:36I might as well try.
00:44:37I know it's the best.
00:44:40After a few calls, she's managed to set him up with a trial shift at a local kitchen cabinetmaker.
00:44:47Hello, I'm Grant.
00:44:48Hiya, nice to meet you.
00:44:48I'm Nick.
00:44:49I'm the general manager.
00:44:50So, shall we get you to polish off some of those carpentry skills?
00:44:52Yeah, I'll give it a go.
00:44:53OK, come on.
00:44:54The only other time Grant had a trial shift was for his current job when he was 17.
00:44:59I am so nervous.
00:45:01I've not had an interview for it since I was 17.
00:45:07So, also, does the cutting?
00:45:08Hopefully I can push myself a bit forward.
00:45:12All you need to do is literally push it against this bar, feed it in, and then the machine will
00:45:17take it for you.
00:45:18Wow, look down.
00:45:18Let me just push it against that and then feed it in slowly.
00:45:21Look down.
00:45:26Good job.
00:45:27Perfect.
00:45:28Let's get you to drill a door.
00:45:31Yeah.
00:45:33At the factory where he currently works, Grant's on £12.21 an hour, the minimum wage.
00:45:39But a job here could be better money and prospects.
00:45:42So, we push it firm up there and then just press that button.
00:45:52There goes the button.
00:45:53And he's drilled the door.
00:45:54Oh, that's cool.
00:45:55Yeah.
00:45:56At this place, the more machines you muster, the more you can earn.
00:46:00There we go.
00:46:02You've built a wall-head panel.
00:46:03Thanks a lot.
00:46:05Has today helped Grant take a step towards a different future?
00:46:09Cheers.
00:46:10Hello, babes.
00:46:11How you doing?
00:46:11Are you all right, beautiful?
00:46:12He's got big news for Nicole.
00:46:15I know we live far away, but potentially they would have gave me a job.
00:46:21Oh, really?
00:46:22Yeah.
00:46:22Oh, brilliant.
00:46:24It boosted my confidence up, really.
00:46:26It made me feel like I can actually go out there and actually look for a good job.
00:46:37Having experienced how hard life is for the Smiths...
00:46:41Helen, I've just had an idea.
00:46:43Just looking at this.
00:46:44And remembering how much the kids love animals...
00:46:47Ooh, this one looks amazing.
00:46:49Lewis has decided to treat them to a day they'll remember for the rest of their lives.
00:46:54I want to do something really, really nice for the family, so...
00:46:56He calls his PA...
00:46:57Boys are going to remember.
00:46:58So I want no expense spared for this whatsoever.
00:47:01I think they really, really deserve to have just the most phenomenal time.
00:47:05Not bad, you know.
00:47:07Tonight, Lewis is filling in for Grant in a darts match.
00:47:12And he's looking forward to going back to the pub.
00:47:14I can see why Grant and Nicky spend the time that they do spend there.
00:47:19I wish I'd had something like that closer to me.
00:47:22Hi, guys.
00:47:23How are you doing?
00:47:24Good, thanks.
00:47:25How are you?
00:47:25Have a good day?
00:47:26Brilliant.
00:47:27But buying around will wipe out the last few pounds of their budget.
00:47:31Lewis, I would like you to meet your component for this evening.
00:47:34Yeah.
00:47:35Little Dave.
00:47:36Little Dave, would you like to meet Lewis?
00:47:39How are you?
00:47:39Hi, little Dave.
00:47:40How are you?
00:47:40You're not little.
00:47:41No.
00:47:42We've been practicing.
00:47:43Are you actually called Dave?
00:47:44Yes.
00:47:45Okay, cool.
00:47:45Have you been practicing?
00:47:46Yeah, I have, yeah.
00:47:46All day.
00:47:47Because I made it.
00:47:47All day.
00:47:48This is going to be intense.
00:47:50Are you ready, Dave?
00:47:50I'm ready.
00:47:52Right.
00:47:52Strip down to the waist.
00:47:54No it in the face.
00:47:56Done.
00:47:57Right?
00:47:57Right.
00:47:58Now I can get on.
00:48:00Right.
00:48:01Pull off then, mate.
00:48:02All the best.
00:48:02Good luck.
00:48:03Good luck, Lewis.
00:48:06Right.
00:48:07It's first to get from 501 down to zero.
00:48:13Not bad at all.
00:48:18Oh.
00:48:20Come on, Lewis.
00:48:22Come on, Lewis.
00:48:27Look at the balls.
00:48:30Oh, yeah.
00:48:31Oh, my God.
00:48:33Amazing what you eat when there's solids.
00:48:46Turns out Lewis is a natural. He's hit a treble 20.
00:48:50You can keep your crabs.
00:48:54Oh, here we go.
00:48:57He humiliated me.
00:48:58When I got my triple 20,
00:49:01I really felt like the whole community were behind me.
00:49:05Lewis may have hit the treble,
00:49:07but little Dave is within sight of victory.
00:49:13That's right, eh?
00:49:14Ah, well played.
00:49:15Well played, mate. Brilliant. Well done.
00:49:18He only picks up a dart on Mondays.
00:49:20He's doing really good.
00:49:23It felt like it's something I'm missing in my life
00:49:26because I don't really have that sense of community.
00:49:28And I think I'm missing out on having that supportive group of people
00:49:32cheering each other on,
00:49:34whether in a darts competition or just in life in general.
00:49:41Still to come,
00:49:43Lewis and Helen start to make improvements to the Smith's house.
00:49:48Lewis's plan comes together.
00:49:50Oh, my God. They're going to run.
00:49:51It's pacing as he's chasing it.
00:49:53And Grant has a surprise for the boys.
00:49:56Ready?
00:49:57Yeah!
00:49:58Ah!
00:50:06Lewis got more out of going to the pub than a high score.
00:50:09Oh, I don't even do that.
00:50:11I really felt like the whole community were behind me.
00:50:14And learn how Grant is held back by losing his front teeth.
00:50:18I can only imagine how defeating that must feel.
00:50:22You want to fix this thing, but you just can't
00:50:25because the money isn't there in the budget.
00:50:27And Nicole's starting to think seriously about giving trading a go.
00:50:32This could be something to do alongside becoming a TA.
00:50:36I'm actually excited about it.
00:50:43Boys, look what's come through the place.
00:50:45Oh, what's this?
00:50:45A mystery envelope has arrived.
00:50:48What's in there?
00:50:50We understand that you love animals,
00:50:53and so we've arranged a day you'll never forget.
00:50:57We've organised a VIP experience
00:51:02that will take you behind the scenes at Woburn Safari Park.
00:51:08Oh, my God.
00:51:10Bob the Ranger will take you to meet your favourite animals up close.
00:51:14Oh.
00:51:16And there's another big surprise.
00:51:18I've enclosed the money for the dentures.
00:51:21Enjoy, Lewis.
00:51:23Oh, my God.
00:51:25Wow.
00:51:27Oh, my God, look at that.
00:51:28Look at that.
00:51:29I could see in the corner of my eye that, you know,
00:51:32Grant was getting a little bit emotional.
00:51:35I was blown away that someone actually doesn't know me
00:51:41get me some denture-storted brother's-dime pocket.
00:51:48For the Smiths, the week just keeps getting better.
00:51:51Where are we, boys?
00:51:52Where are we?
00:51:53Where are we?
00:51:54Where are we?
00:51:55Where are we?
00:51:56Woburn Safari Park is one of the only places in the UK
00:51:59where you can get up close with the wild animals.
00:52:03We're going to use this land driver.
00:52:04Yeah, yeah.
00:52:05So what are we doing, guys?
00:52:06Right there.
00:52:08We all jump in here.
00:52:09Can you jump up?
00:52:10Can you jump in there?
00:52:10No.
00:52:11Put your leg up.
00:52:12Good.
00:52:12But it doesn't come cheap.
00:52:14OK.
00:52:15Even the basic entry for a family of five is £120,
00:52:19more than their weekly budget.
00:52:21Today, however, money is no object.
00:52:24We're off out in the line section.
00:52:26We're allowed to put out their breakfast for them.
00:52:28Shall we feed them you guys?
00:52:30No!
00:52:31Yeah.
00:52:32The Smiths are having the ultimate VIP experience
00:52:35at over £1,000.
00:52:37That's going to be a bit heavy.
00:52:38That means they get to take on the role of gamekeeper.
00:52:41Crikey.
00:52:42That's it.
00:52:43You've got to release it.
00:52:44You ready?
00:52:46With the family safely back in the Land Rover.
00:52:49Look at them go.
00:52:50Look at them go.
00:52:51Oh.
00:52:54Oh, my God.
00:52:54Thank God.
00:52:55Oh, look.
00:52:56Oh, he's got one.
00:52:57He's just picked up and walked away with it.
00:53:00Who's got sharp teeth?
00:53:02It's amazing how close we can actually get.
00:53:06Are we being naughty bears?
00:53:08No.
00:53:09No, no, no, no, no.
00:53:12No, no, no, no.
00:53:12No, no, no, no, no, no.
00:53:14He's chasing us.
00:53:15He's chasing us.
00:53:16Look at that.
00:53:17We don't normally get this close, guys.
00:53:18Look at her face.
00:53:19Oh, I've got one here.
00:53:21Oh, he's coming.
00:53:22You got it?
00:53:23You got it?
00:53:24Oh, whoa.
00:53:25Hello.
00:53:27Oh, look.
00:53:31Can you hear them?
00:53:31So, look, what's she like, Dad?
00:53:33Oh.
00:53:34I don't like this.
00:53:36The meerkats are fine.
00:53:37I like the meerkats.
00:53:38You don't like this?
00:53:39I just don't like the food.
00:53:40I love this.
00:53:42This is so cool.
00:53:45The kids were so excited.
00:53:48We are an animal lover family,
00:53:50and they just loved every minute of it.
00:53:54This was my best day out ever,
00:53:57because I really enjoyed everything of today.
00:54:01Oh, you've got loads of best friends now.
00:54:06In Grantham...
00:54:08There we go.
00:54:09Thank you, dear.
00:54:11..surviving on just 100 quid a week
00:54:13and learning about Nicole and Grant's struggles
00:54:16has had a deep impact on Lewis.
00:54:18I feel very trapped in this situation,
00:54:21and I don't have to live here every single day.
00:54:25It's hard to change the situation
00:54:27when you don't have the money to do it.
00:54:30Now he's looking at the parts of the house
00:54:32the Smiths don't have the time or money to fix.
00:54:35The carpet's threadbare.
00:54:37Hello, you must be Barry.
00:54:38Yes, hello, Lewis.
00:54:39Nice to meet you.
00:54:40So, what's the first thing we need to do?
00:54:42Is it measure it?
00:54:42Yes, I'll have a measure.
00:54:44OK.
00:54:45Lewis is paying out of his own pocket
00:54:47to replace the worn-out carpet.
00:54:48It's just one less thing for Nicole and Grant
00:54:51to have to worry about or think about or to pay for.
00:54:54Ethan's ladder is precarious.
00:54:57So, I'm trying to climb up it.
00:54:58Yeah, it feels...
00:54:59Get it on the floor fully.
00:55:01As a mum, it'd be nice to get it fixed
00:55:03so it's safe for him.
00:55:04Hello, nice to meet you.
00:55:05I'm Lewis.
00:55:06I'm too.
00:55:06They've decided to splurge out
00:55:08on a bespoke handmade ladder.
00:55:10It's satisfying to watch.
00:55:12It's very satisfying to watch.
00:55:13Right, should we start cutting then, yeah?
00:55:15Yes, please.
00:55:25Right, all done then.
00:55:25Ready for a bit of painting now then, yeah?
00:55:27Yes.
00:55:27A bit of painting
00:55:28and then it'll be good to go
00:55:30prior to a place in the bedroom.
00:55:32In King's Lynn,
00:55:34it's the moment Grant's been dreaming of
00:55:36for over two years.
00:55:38Oh, we're here.
00:55:39Oh, yes.
00:55:41Are you excited?
00:55:42Big day.
00:55:43Oh, I can't wait to actually see you
00:55:45with a full smile.
00:55:46Me neither.
00:55:49When we leave here,
00:55:50you're going to be
00:55:52whole again.
00:55:54I said I couldn't sleep last night.
00:55:56Yeah.
00:55:56So I was that excited.
00:55:58I know, I could hear you.
00:55:58Tossing and turning.
00:56:02This morning,
00:56:02we knew that we was going to the dentist.
00:56:05He was straight out of bed.
00:56:06So excited.
00:56:08Lewis has paid well over £1,000
00:56:10to get Grant the best dentures money can buy.
00:56:13If they do fit perfect,
00:56:15I'll be skipping outside the dentist.
00:56:19So, we've got your denture ready.
00:56:22Oh, fab.
00:56:23Lovely.
00:56:24Let's try it.
00:56:29Great.
00:56:32Looks good.
00:56:34Can you buy it done for me?
00:56:37That looks great as well.
00:56:39Perfect.
00:56:40Let me sit you up
00:56:42and see from the front.
00:56:44There you go.
00:56:46Would you like to have a look in the mirror?
00:56:47Yes, please.
00:56:53Wow.
00:56:58I feel more confidence.
00:57:01I'm a lot happier now.
00:57:03So I'm hoping
00:57:04I can carry on
00:57:06being that way
00:57:07throughout
00:57:08the future.
00:57:10Thank you very much.
00:57:11Nice to meet you.
00:57:12And you too.
00:57:12Cheers.
00:57:14Bye.
00:57:15I wasn't there.
00:57:17He is absolutely over the moon
00:57:19and so grateful
00:57:21for what, like you say,
00:57:22Lewis has done.
00:57:23I can already see it.
00:57:24Your eyes are all creased.
00:57:26I feel
00:57:27overwhelmed.
00:57:28Yeah.
00:57:29Are we going to be like this all day now?
00:57:32Yeah.
00:57:33Smiley, fun.
00:57:36Back at the house
00:57:37Ready?
00:57:38Yes!
00:57:39Grant's got a surprise
00:57:40for the boys.
00:57:41Ah!
00:57:43New tea!
00:57:44Has he got some new tea?
00:57:46Yeah.
00:57:47Do you think
00:57:48it completes Daddy now?
00:57:49Yeah.
00:57:49Yeah.
00:57:50Do you think Daddy's happy?
00:57:52Yeah.
00:57:52Are you guys happy?
00:57:53Yeah.
00:57:54You're happy.
00:57:55Daddy's happy.
00:57:56Everyone's happy.
00:57:58Ah!
00:58:00What's in there?
00:58:01And they've spoiled the kids
00:58:02with the £300
00:58:03they still have left
00:58:04from Lewis's weekly budget.
00:58:06Mummy and Daddy got.
00:58:09We know you like
00:58:10Harry Potter.
00:58:11There's paint your own
00:58:11t-shirts.
00:58:13A smart watch
00:58:14for each of them.
00:58:16And one of the boys
00:58:17favourite games.
00:58:18Right.
00:58:19This is for all
00:58:20three of you
00:58:21so you can have a play.
00:58:23Eek, eek, eek, eek, eek.
00:58:25Still to come
00:58:26Nicole and Grant
00:58:28are in for a surprise
00:58:29when they get home.
00:58:30What's different in here?
00:58:31The two families
00:58:33finally meet.
00:58:34Yeah.
00:58:35And the Smiths
00:58:35receive an offer
00:58:36that could change their lives.
00:58:38Once we've really
00:58:39got your skill set in place
00:58:40that could be
00:58:41£50,000 to £100,000
00:58:42profit each year.
00:58:44I can't even talk.
00:58:50It's our bloody work.
00:58:52Millionaire Lewis
00:58:52has learnt just how hard
00:58:54life is for the Smiths.
00:58:55I feel very trapped
00:58:57and I don't have to live
00:58:58here every single day.
00:59:00But for one week
00:59:02the Smiths
00:59:03got to leave it all behind.
00:59:04I love this.
00:59:06This is so cool.
00:59:07Today has been
00:59:08absolutely amazing.
00:59:10And Grant
00:59:10got a much needed boost.
00:59:12Potentially
00:59:13they could have
00:59:14gave me a job.
00:59:16Oh really?
00:59:18Litty!
00:59:19I feel more
00:59:20confidence.
00:59:22I'm a lot happier now.
00:59:25Day six.
00:59:27Lewis and Helen's
00:59:28home improvements
00:59:28are moving on a pace.
00:59:31The carpet fitters
00:59:32are hard at work
00:59:34and Lewis is giving
00:59:35Ethan's ladder
00:59:36a coat of paint
00:59:37ready to slot into place.
00:59:39I've never painted
00:59:40a set of steps before
00:59:42but at the end of the day
00:59:43it will be white
00:59:44and it will be painted.
00:59:46It's time for the swap
00:59:48to end.
00:59:49I am so looking forward
00:59:50to having a shower
00:59:51being in my own space
00:59:52sitting on the decking
00:59:53with a glass of wine
00:59:54and watching the sunset.
00:59:55I'm really looking forward
00:59:56to meeting Nicole
00:59:57and Grant today.
00:59:58I feel like
00:59:58super bonded
00:59:59with Nicole.
01:00:01My mum and Grant
01:00:02had a really good time
01:00:03because
01:00:05every single day
01:00:06I saw smiles
01:00:07on their faces
01:00:08when we woke up.
01:00:10I might ask
01:00:11if we could actually
01:00:12move in with them
01:00:13but we'll see
01:00:14how that goes.
01:00:17Before they return
01:00:18to their normal lives
01:00:19the families will finally
01:00:21get to meet face to face.
01:00:23Hello, hello.
01:00:24Hello, you all right guys?
01:00:25Are you all right, Lewis?
01:00:26Yes, good to see you.
01:00:27Hello.
01:00:28Hello, hello.
01:00:29Good to meet you.
01:00:29Andrew.
01:00:31How was the house?
01:00:31How did you find it?
01:00:32It was like home from home
01:00:34to be honest.
01:00:34It felt really homely.
01:00:35Yeah.
01:00:36So we all
01:00:37got quite comfy
01:00:38quite quickly
01:00:39to be honest.
01:00:40Over the week
01:00:41they've learned
01:00:41a lot about each other.
01:00:43You guys sound
01:00:44so busy
01:00:45but especially
01:00:45Nicole with everything
01:00:46you do for
01:00:47the kids.
01:00:49Yeah, yeah.
01:00:50And I mean
01:00:50your story about
01:00:51your dad
01:00:52and I cannot imagine
01:00:53having to
01:00:55just so suddenly
01:00:56lose my dad
01:00:57and just how that
01:00:57would completely
01:00:58rock my world.
01:00:59For Grant especially
01:01:00the swap's been a journey.
01:01:03Over this week
01:01:04I've come out
01:01:05of my shelf
01:01:05a lot more.
01:01:06Yeah.
01:01:06Went to the dentist
01:01:07yesterday
01:01:08and I was like
01:01:09oh my
01:01:10getting them
01:01:11getting them
01:01:11and then coming out
01:01:12I was like
01:01:13I couldn't stop smiling
01:01:14and I was like
01:01:15oh.
01:01:16It was a complete change
01:01:17wasn't it
01:01:18and like I say
01:01:18everybody could
01:01:19see the change
01:01:20in you as well.
01:01:22I was just so happy
01:01:22that we could
01:01:23help change that
01:01:25for you
01:01:25and just give you
01:01:26that little boost.
01:01:27so we've both got
01:01:27a bit more
01:01:30get up and going
01:01:31is now.
01:01:31We're definitely
01:01:32going to
01:01:33change some things
01:01:34around as soon
01:01:35as we get back
01:01:35home aren't we?
01:01:36Oh yeah.
01:01:37Big turning point
01:01:38for us going to the pub.
01:01:39Yeah.
01:01:39What an amazing pub
01:01:40that is.
01:01:41Yeah.
01:01:42It's made me realise
01:01:42I don't really have a life
01:01:43like I've got work life
01:01:45but I don't have
01:01:46like a community
01:01:48activity to be part of
01:01:49and I just think
01:01:49that's something
01:01:50which has added
01:01:51a lot of richness
01:01:51to your guys life
01:01:52evidently
01:01:53and I want a bit
01:01:54of that in my life
01:01:55as well.
01:01:56This week's made
01:01:57a big impact
01:01:58on Helen and Lewis
01:01:59so they want to
01:02:00show their appreciation.
01:02:02I want to give you
01:02:03a pamper day
01:02:03to take away
01:02:04from the experience
01:02:05so this is like
01:02:05a beginning
01:02:06not an end
01:02:07so get your hair done
01:02:08whatever you want to do
01:02:09but it has to be
01:02:10just for you.
01:02:12I like that.
01:02:15And that's just
01:02:16for starters.
01:02:17One of the things
01:02:18that we kind of
01:02:19discovered over the week
01:02:20is that you've
01:02:21got this credit card.
01:02:22The Smith's gone
01:02:23into thousands
01:02:24of pounds of debt
01:02:25after paying out
01:02:26for their wedding
01:02:27and being forced
01:02:28to replace
01:02:29their old car.
01:02:30We just want to
01:02:31wipe that out
01:02:32take that out
01:02:32of the equation
01:02:33because that's just
01:02:34going to be
01:02:34a weight round your neck.
01:02:37Brilliant.
01:02:38I feel like
01:02:40I don't know what to do.
01:02:43I'm going to cry now
01:02:44because you're fine.
01:02:44I'm trying not to.
01:02:46I am keeping it in.
01:02:48And there's one last
01:02:49incredible offer
01:02:50for Nicole.
01:02:51I got a phone call
01:02:52yesterday
01:02:53from head mentor
01:02:54Josh Jones
01:02:55and he said
01:02:55we're showing real
01:02:56interest in the trading
01:02:57thing,
01:02:58feeling like how it
01:02:58fits into your life
01:03:00as well.
01:03:00And so what I'd like
01:03:02to do is give you
01:03:02access to our top
01:03:03mentorship package
01:03:04which is about
01:03:05£15,000.
01:03:06Now on top of that
01:03:07once you are
01:03:09a successful trader
01:03:10what I'd like to do
01:03:11is give you access
01:03:12to some of our funds
01:03:14to trade with.
01:03:15So the value of that
01:03:16fund is £100,000
01:03:17and once we've really
01:03:19got your skill set
01:03:19in place
01:03:20that could be
01:03:21£50,000 to £100,000
01:03:22profit each year.
01:03:26That's a little bit
01:03:26such a stuff.
01:03:30Yeah.
01:03:31I'm just so excited
01:03:32to be...
01:03:33I'm really trying not to
01:03:34cry.
01:03:35I can't even talk.
01:03:38And I realise
01:03:39you don't have a laptop
01:03:41so what we decided
01:03:42to do
01:03:43is get you guys
01:03:46an laptop.
01:03:47Thank you for everything.
01:03:49You are more than welcome.
01:03:50It really is our joy
01:03:51because you guys
01:03:51have just made
01:03:52such an impact
01:03:53on us this week.
01:03:54It really has been amazing.
01:03:55Oh, fantastic.
01:03:57Let me give you guys
01:03:58a hug.
01:03:59Bring it in.
01:04:01I'm too busy for help.
01:04:02It's absolutely amazing
01:04:04what they're offering us
01:04:05and doing for us.
01:04:06It's actually helping us
01:04:09going forward in life
01:04:11knowing that we don't
01:04:12need to worry about
01:04:14the credit cards now.
01:04:16Hello, boys.
01:04:17Give me a high five.
01:04:18Yeah.
01:04:19Yeah.
01:04:20I'm Helen.
01:04:21How are you doing, Ethan?
01:04:22I'm Helen.
01:04:23Yeah.
01:04:23It was so good
01:04:24to finally meet them
01:04:25and they are exactly
01:04:27what everyone said
01:04:28they are.
01:04:29They're just very warm,
01:04:30welcoming,
01:04:31lovely, lovely people.
01:04:32I feel like I've been
01:04:32living their lives.
01:04:33I felt like I was
01:04:34emotionally connected to them
01:04:36so it was really good
01:04:36to bring them to life.
01:04:38Yeah.
01:04:38They were lovely.
01:04:39It's the end

01:04:41and now time for them
01:04:43all to return home.
01:04:45We like the look

01:04:50Straight in.
01:04:51Oh, wow.
01:04:52What's different in here?
01:04:53Shoes off.
01:04:54Shoes off.
01:04:55Shall we go upstairs?
01:04:57Oh, look.
01:04:58Oh, this is nice and soft.
01:05:00This is so soft.
01:05:02I know.
01:05:04Comfy now.
01:05:05And there's a treat
01:05:06for Ethan, too.
01:05:07Oh, wow.
01:05:08It's a new ladder.
01:05:10Oh, that's brilliant,
01:05:11isn't it?
01:05:12It's bigger than I remember.
01:05:15It's going to feel
01:05:15very spacious.
01:05:17The Smiths have also
01:05:19left a little something
01:05:20for Lewis.
01:05:21Oh, it's good to be back.
01:05:22Home sweet home.
01:05:23Oh, wow.
01:05:24Oh, that is great.
01:05:25That is brilliant.
01:05:26That's so good.
01:05:27It does the adding up
01:05:28for you.
01:05:29Well, we need that
01:05:30because I'm not the best
01:05:31at maths.
01:05:31But what has Lewis
01:05:33taken from the week?
01:05:34Oh, yes.
01:05:36Oh, wow.
01:05:36I've learned that
01:05:37local community
01:05:37is super important.
01:05:39I really do want to be
01:05:40more home-based
01:05:42and spend more time
01:05:43with my loved ones
01:05:44and getting to be part
01:05:46of the local community
01:05:48around me as well.
01:05:49And what have the Smiths
01:05:51learned?
01:05:52We thought our life
01:05:53is our life
01:05:54because that's how
01:05:55it is, isn't it?
01:05:56But now, I believe
01:05:58there's such a better
01:06:00future out there for us.
01:06:04Next time.
01:06:06The bulb might be
01:06:07on its way out.
01:06:09Get all moved.
01:06:10We can have a dance.
01:06:11There's no TV.
01:06:12I since make your own
01:06:14entertainment.
01:06:15We've still got it.
01:06:16Class is the dream team.
01:06:17Is there something
01:06:18wrong with that one?
01:06:20Lots of smiles
01:06:21and the faces.
01:06:22Oh, yay!
01:06:23Oh, yay!
01:06:24I've put my kids
01:06:26through so much.
