00:18to the boxing on netflix today as tyson fury is back in our boxing lives picking up a unanimous
00:25decision victory uh before we get to that again a reminder uh we are presented by sea of dead head
00:30over to sea of dead 403.ca for all of that great calgary swag um sometimes i get worried about
00:36the
00:36the branding of this show and seeing some of the cat stuff and the pet stuff and the logo and
00:41everything like that uh but then as i go live uh we got the hey you want to come up
00:44there we go we
00:46got the cat making an appearance here so uh bailey sat beside me to watch this so it makes sense
00:51that
00:51she would get in on uh some of the action here and some of the breakdown as well you you
00:56had fury
00:57winning basically every round two hey yeah definitely um so yeah let's get into to what we
01:01saw um on saturday afternoon from netflix as tyson fury uh moro ranallo excellent again by the way uh
01:09but making the joke on there that um tyson fury has had many great fights in his career but he
01:15is now
01:15oh and four against retirement uh was a really really funny line from moro but he's back after
01:20a near 500 day layoff and he picks up a unanimous decision win over arslanbeck makamadova uh nope
01:27mak i have i watched the entire fight heard them say it a thousand times but this is the first
01:33time
01:33i've had to say it since you didn't do the breakdowns and stuff this week um makamadov apologies there
01:38wow um but yeah the breakdown here um it was like 120 108 120 108 and then uh one card
01:47went 119
01:48110 for um all for tyson fury and it honestly i don't know if it was that close um there
01:56was
01:56an obvious class difference in this fight and the the big draw of this i suppose the big um
02:03conversation would have been mainly around um can like what what does tyson fury have left
02:10what tyson fury are we going to get oh billy's insulted by this apparently um but yeah what
02:17what version of tyson fury are we going to get um he's been retired for just over a year and
02:22coming
02:22off of two tough losses against olexander usick what is this guy going to have left in the tank and
02:29i don't know if he showed that he can compete at an elite level no one after this one was
02:34saying no
02:34forget the anthony joshua fight bring on usick no one was saying that but it is very clear that he
02:41is still better than um a lot of guys in that the heavyweight division it was just it was a
02:48class
02:48above we're not going to get too much into the technical side of things cardio wise it looked
02:51like he was fine um that heavyweights always have a bit of a difficult time going a little bit later
02:56on
02:56but he has always had a bit of a special gas tank and he wasn't really pressed a whole lot
03:01in this
03:01one he he was a step above and it's a big payday and a big opportunity for makhmadov but and
03:10it sucks
03:10because the dudes fought a lot of fights here in canada um but just not on the level of tyson
03:15fury
03:15and very few are again i don't think that this shows that fury is ready for a championship opportunity
03:20or anything like that but it does show that he is better than just random heavyweight x that you
03:26could possibly throw out there for a fight i think the big talking point for this one comes after the
03:33bout when um turkey a la chic gets into the ring and starts calling eddie hearn in and that is
03:40when
03:40things get awkward i talked uh earlier this week about how the chisora wilder fight was one of the
03:46weirdest things i've seen in a while well this was one of the more awkward things i've seen in a
03:50while
03:50but you could totally see where both sides were kind of playing it right because turkey calls eddie
03:55hearn into the ring he calls anthony joshua into the ring neither of them move and i'm going to
04:00suggest that not many people do that to turkey just to put that bluntly um and you can read into
04:07that
04:07what you will but he eventually just gives up on calling them and gives the mic to tyson fury who
04:13makes the pro wrestling-esque call out of anthony joshua i want you next get in here and let's make
04:18it official joshua doesn't move again eddie hearn doesn't move and so it's obvious that this is the
04:24fight that they are kind of positioning for and that this is the fight that they are kind of getting
04:27ready for but it's also obvious that they do not have all the i's dotted all the t's crossed or
04:33anything like that or even anything close if these guys aren't going to get in there and hype this one
04:39up so it was a really awkward situation but it was obviously turkey fury to a certain degree as
04:45well putting pressure on joshua and hearn to be like no we're going to do this now we got this
04:49big
04:50stage it's on netflix uh the first time netflix boxing has taken place in um england it's a big
04:57stage we're going to do it we're going to make this huge announcement and hearn and anthony joshua
05:01very much were playing poker and saying no you're not you're not forcing us into anything here you're
05:06not going to force us into this to just to make a deal so that we can back out of
05:10it after or you
05:10can back out of it after or whatever we're not doing this here and so it was it led to
05:17a very weird
05:17situation i would imagine this gets figured out and this gets taken care of and this gets done
05:21but with this generation of heavyweights where we have had to wait until we are post apex on a lot
05:28of
05:28these guys to get these opportunities you can see where some people would be a little bit concerned
05:33about it and i i mean i'm not locked in that this is obviously going to be um the next
05:38fight for these
05:39guys but i do think that it probably does get figured out here and it kind of i i was
05:47still
05:47positioning more for wilder against joshua um get that fight that we have not seen yet but i think we
05:52will get all of the kind of taken care of even if it's not in the era that we necessarily
05:58wanted them
05:59to the other main fight on here was connor ben with a unanimous decision win over uh regis progress
06:06um this was this one had a lot of eyes on it because ben signs the one fight deal with
06:12zupa
06:12boxing this being the one fight and it's a big money one it's worth more than probably the entire
06:21ufc card um that they're putting on tonight is making and so obviously it got a lot of attention
06:27and a lot of discussion around it and so there's a lot of pressure on connor ben and on the
06:32one hand
06:32i think this was a really valuable fight against progress who's a uh multiple time champion has
06:40fought multiple different weight classes veteran of the sport and still very very tough and these
06:45were very valuable rounds for connor ben to have 10 really solid rounds against not currently a
06:51championship caliber fighter but someone who was um not too far away from right now and someone who
06:56can still challenge you a little bit so this was a tremendous learning experience for connor ben and
07:01he still goes out and gets the win does have some things he needs to work on he got smoked
07:05a couple
07:06of times um a couple good lefts from progress um in kind of the middle of the fight that made
07:11it seem
07:12like what are we doing here it's this this could be close i think it was even 3-3 after
07:19the first six
07:19if i'm remembering right and then after that ben was able to take over and get things moving and he
07:26was able to win basically every round after that so a very good performance and the type of one that
07:31you want to see from a guy who is working his way up now the issue i don't think zufa
07:37boxing made this
07:38investment hoping to get valuable learning experience from this guy i i do think they were hoping that he
07:45could come in blow the doors off of a veteran with a bit of a name and now they're gonna
07:49have their
07:50superstar it didn't work out that way nor should it have but i i'm interested to see where this goes
07:57now is this guy going to be the cornerstone of zufa boxing or was this just a one-off and
08:03now eddie
08:03hearn can come back in or someone else can get back in there and and figure this thing out but
08:08i'm
08:09i'm very interested in kind of the out of the ring dynamic of this thing because again this was a
08:15perfect fight for ben to kind of um i guess legitimize is a bit of a bad word but to
08:21to kind
08:21of validate a little bit of what you're thinking about this guy show that he can go those 10 rounds
08:2610 hard rounds and get that really big valuable experience at this point in his career but it does
08:34feel like zufa was kind of hoping they had a superstar on their hands and so do they just because
08:39i i think
08:40there is star potential in this guy i really do does this now mean zufa's just like yeah no this
08:46is
08:46our guy we're going to go for it even though this wasn't as impressive as we wanted it to be
08:49we're
08:50just gonna we're gonna launch away with this guy and with our promotional vehicle behind him we're
08:54going to be able to make it happen and we're going to be able to make this guy a superstar
08:58or are
08:59they just like man we just paid this dude 15 million dollars to get experience and now someone else
09:03is going to be able to take advantage of it um and we don't didn't really get the star out
09:07of this
09:07that we wanted with our investment so it's it's an interesting debate i i think just if you watch
09:13that fight and look at the career of connor ben in a vacuum taking out this weird situation with
09:18the the one fight contract again i think this is a real positive i think he showed a lot of
09:22signs
09:22that you would want to see from a younger fighter and again that experience that you wanted from him
09:27so um just wanted to get a quick one out there uh an instant reaction to a couple of fights
09:31that we
