Unimaginable peace: Azerbaijan and Armenia sign historic agreement after decades of conflict

After almost four decades of a bloody conflict that until recently had no end in sight, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a peace agreement in the presence of the US President Donald Trump. Notably absent in this historic moment is Russia, which no longer plays a central role in the South Caucasus.

00:00Armenia and Azerbaijan sign a historic peace deal on Friday at the White House in Washington.
00:08After almost four decades of a bloody Karabakh conflict,
00:13leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia Ilham Elivet and Nikol Pashinyan
00:18both praised U.S. Donald Trump who brokered the deal.
00:23President Trump brings peace to Caucasus and we are grateful for that.
00:28And I'm sure that Armenia and Azerbaijan will find courage and responsibility to reconcile
00:37and also the people will reconcile.
00:40We're laying a foundation to write a better story than the one we had in the past.
00:47I'm particularly thrilled that together with the U.S., Armenia will work to bring to life the trip
00:54Trump wrote for peace and prosperity.
00:57Trump also said the two countries are, quote, committing to ending all fighting forever.
01:04The U.S. will benefit as the creation of a major transit corridor.
