00:00Good morning. Diplomacy kicking into overdrive. Let's see what we get from this one.
00:04Moments ago, there's the video. The vice president, J.D. Vance, boarding Air Force Two,
00:08heading for Islamabad, Pakistan for high stakes talks with Iran.
00:12High stakes, he said. Can they create an agreement that will end the war once and for all?
00:18I mean, I don't think so. This will make any difference at all.
00:23Also, doesn't get bigger than this. Good morning, everybody.
00:26I'm Bill Hemmer. Big two hours coming up right now.
00:28It's high stakes with hot takes. Yes, indeed. I like that. Hashtag.
00:32It'll be all weekend. I'm Dana Perino and this is America's newsroom.
00:35Before the vice president took off, he took an upbeat tone on those talks,
00:39but also warning Iran, don't even think about pulling a fast one.
00:42This is what J.D. Vance said. Listen.
00:46If we're looking forward to the negotiation, I think it's going to be positive.
00:48We'll foresee. As the president of the United States said,
00:51if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith,
00:54we're certainly willing to extend the open hand.
00:56This is what it is.
00:57If they try to play us, then they're going to find that the negotiating team
00:59is not that receptive.
01:01So we're going to try to have a positive negotiation.
01:03The president has gave us some pretty clear guidelines
01:06and we're going to see.
01:07So I hope you guys have a safe flight.
01:09We'll certainly take some questions later on.
01:11But for now, let's get on the plane and hit the road.
01:13So now President Trump flatly rejecting Iran's first proposal.
01:17Yes, rejected the first proposal of Iran.
01:19Now pushing something else.
01:21...for a stronger deal.
01:22That deal would include putting a laser focus on one of the toughest issues on the table,
01:27and that's the fate of the Strait of Hormuz.
01:30Days into a fragile ceasefire, that key waterway has become what Iran sees as its biggest bargaining chip.
01:36It's still choking off the movement.
01:38This is the real footage from Iran's Strait of Hormuz chokehold test ceasefire.
01:44...of many ships deciding which ones can and cannot flow freely.
01:49Overnight, President Trump posted on Truth Social saying Iran is doing a very poor job,
01:54dishonorable, some would say, of allowing oil to go through the Strait of Hormuz.
01:58That is not the agreement we have.
02:00So meanwhile, Dana, another potential stumbling block is the conflict ongoing in Lebanon against Hezbollah.
02:05Lebanon is so much basing right now.
02:08...Israel continues to hit Hezbollah, Iran's largest and to date most powerful proxy.
02:15Yes, Lebanon is the proxy of Iran.
02:17...regime insisting that any move to exclude this from the ceasefire talk is a non-starter for them.
02:24...and we're introducing Trey Yink, Kevin, covering this story from the get-go.
02:27They join us from the White House and from Tel Aviv.
02:29And Peter, let's start with you.
02:31Yes, this is from White House and this is from Tel Aviv.
02:35...heard about how the President advised J.D. Vance.
02:38...before he took off.
02:40Well, when J.D. Vance says that the President gave them clear guidelines,
02:44we understand that to mean that the U.S. needs to go in there and tell Iran no enrichment, period.
02:50That is what we have heard from White House officials.
02:52Remember, a couple, about six weeks ago, Steve Wyckoff and Jared Kushner were sitting there with the Iranians
02:58and said the U.S. will give you all the uranium you want for peaceful purposes.
03:03You just can't use it to...
03:04I mean, one thing I let you notice, guys, the height difference in this backside is too much.
03:10Look at this man and look at the other ones.
03:12The height difference is too much.
03:15...and Iran said no.
03:17Now they are, of course, adding J.D. Vance to the equation.
03:20And so we'll see how things go.
03:22We don't even really know what the format is yet.
03:24They had indirect talks last time.
03:26These will be TV...
03:27Let's see what is happening in Israel, Iran and that area.
03:33...said there was an agreement to go into Iranian territory in the future
03:37and dig up that enriched uranium that was buried in the aftermath of Operation Midnight Hammer
03:42and then remove it from the country.
03:44Iran's nuclear chief this week said they will maintain the right to enrich uranium.
03:48And so a lot of points to work out here at the negotiating table.
03:51And the question here...
03:52This is Islamabad, Pakistan.
03:54U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is going there.
04:00This is security.
04:01And then, Peter, how is the White House processing the increase in oil prices,
04:06the concern people have going forward, and, of course, the inflation report today?
04:10Dana, they are eager to change the subject to something else.
04:13Yes, this is what it is.
04:15The talks begin early next week in Washington, D.C.
04:18And from what I understand here, you've got the Israeli government
04:22and maybe the Lebanese government trying to squeeze Hezbollah in Lebanon.
04:26This is what they are doing.
04:28This is what they are doing.
04:29I am pretty sure.
04:33And part of the reason they could do that is if the Lebanese government now in power...
04:38Now, now see this.
04:39This call on Hezbollah to lay down their arms and stop firing toward Israel is something unheard of.
04:45Had we told you this two years ago, people would have laughed because there was such a connection
04:49and Hezbollah was deeply embedded into the Lebanese government.
04:53This is what Hezbollah was doing.
04:55Hezbollah attacks in Lebanon and Israel.
04:58This is what is happening.
04:59Confirmed Hezbollah attack is this red area.
05:02Claimed Hezbollah attack.
05:03Not confirmed, but we are claiming that Hezbollah is the one attacking in these areas.
05:07The reality is the president's been able to change the focus of the Middle East
05:11from eternal conflict to trying to find some mediation efforts toward a broader ceasefire deal
05:17that doesn't just affect the situation inside Gaza between Israel and Hamas
05:21and doesn't just affect the situation in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah.
05:28This is what is happening, guys.
05:31So this is very big thing.
05:34High-stake U.S.-Iran talk set for tomorrow.
05:37So this is a very big one.
05:38He talks with regard to the United States and Iran.
05:41Here's Jack Keene earlier today on that.
05:45President Trump is not going to make a bad deal here.
05:48As much as he thinks there's a good deal coming,
05:51doesn't know for sure until it's on the table
05:54and what is the verification process.
05:57He knows these guys are liars and cheaters.
05:59Listen, nobody has negotiated more with this regime than this president.
06:05Yes, this is what.
06:07Trump is the main person right here who is present
06:10and negotiated this much
06:12and even go for a war for whole international countries.
06:17Yes.
06:18And this is the only president who's ever taken him on
06:22consequently in terms of military operations.
06:25Yes.
06:25So, Michael, let's start in Pakistan with regard to Iran.
06:28What do you rate as the possible...
06:31We've been busily degrading other things
06:35across the country the last five weeks.
06:37But that will enable, we think,
06:40the CENTCOM commander to say to the commander-in-chief,
06:46we've now reduced the threat enough
06:48to where we can do a freedom of navigation operation,
06:52establish that it's back open,
06:54and hopefully, hopefully be able to do an escort mission
06:58to start bringing tankers through.
07:00If they're not going to let it go...
07:01Sorry, Michael, that means more...
07:03That means we go back to war, right?
07:05Yes, we are going back to war.
07:06This is it.
07:07Yeah, I mean, I'm afraid so.
07:09I mean, let's see what happens this weekend.
07:12We've got...
07:12This is very bad, guys.
07:14This is very bad.
07:15War is not ending,
07:16and something big is happening this weekend.
