00:02This church is celebrating turning 70 this year.
00:05It's recently been added to the state heritage list
00:07for its historic role in welcoming migrants to Adelaide's north.
00:11If there's a possibility to get people from far away to come, it's our joy.
00:19It's now protected from demolition or significant alteration,
00:22along with 18 other buildings built since World War II
00:25that the Heritage Council has listed in recent years.
00:28The council chair says they're just as important as stone buildings from the 1800s.
00:33People will look back at the buildings from the 70s and 80s in the same way
00:38and it is just a matter of time really before people find them more significant.
00:45One building being considered for heritage protection
00:47is the Australian Education Union office here in Parkside.
00:51The union wants to knock it down for apartments and a new office
00:55to provide better amenities for its members.
00:57But others oppose its destruction.
01:00They say it's important for its role in the union movement
01:03and how its concrete is sculpted.
01:05I think this is a fantastic building.
01:07It's one of the finest examples of brutalist architecture in Adelaide.
01:11Homeowners Jess and Dan Fitzgerald are glad their property in Ross Trevor
01:15has been recognised for its mid-century architecture.
01:18This is always going to be protected.
01:20This will always exist and I think that's special.
01:22A survey is underway to add more modern buildings to the State Heritage List.
