00:00I feel for you, Tyrone.
00:02Oh, yeah?
00:02I know you're rocking the old-school Spectrum hoodie right there,
00:04and I respect that.
00:05You know I do.
00:06But your Sixers season has come to an end,
00:09and it came to an end yesterday in the most predictable of ways.
00:15Now, before I tell you what happened, Philadelphia is now the eighth seed.
00:20Yeah.
00:20So they are in the playing tournament.
00:21Yeah.
00:22They obviously had a chance to be the sixth seed,
00:24but they've fallen two full games now behind the Atlanta Hawks
00:27with two games to go.
00:28So they are not going to be the sixth seed.
00:30Nope.
00:30So our dream of Nick Sixers three versus six in the first round is not happening.
00:36Why are the Sixers falling faster than a rock in the Atlantic Ocean?
00:41Shocker, Joel Embiid's out again.
00:44But this one is not a fantasy injury.
00:50This one is not load management.
00:52He's had orbital fractures.
00:54I mean, he's talking about.
00:56His eyes are going two different ways.
00:57That's happened.
00:58This is not some kind of cockamamie-like illness that only exists on an episode of House.
01:04You know, 20 years ago, he apparently had the stomach cramps,
01:09and it turned out that he's got appendicitis.
01:13Yeah, he had to have surgery.
01:14Yeah, and I guess yesterday was emergency surgery, an appendectomy.
01:18That's right.
01:18Now, other guys in the NBA have had appendicitis before and had the surgery.
01:23Here's the good news, to be fair.
01:25It's a good thing they found it before it ruptured.
01:28Yes.
01:29Because if your appendix ruptures, you're in trouble.
01:32All right?
01:32So, while it's not life or death before it ruptures, if you wait too long, it's going to rupture,
01:39and then you've got yourself a real problem because you're bleeding internally, and you could die.
01:44You could die.
01:45So, first and foremost, I'm glad they caught it.
01:48I'm glad they did the surgery yesterday, and he's going to be just fine.
01:53But in the history of NBA players having this surgery, I thought it was a week.
02:00It's a month.
02:01Yeah, it's a month.
02:02And the reason it's a month is, look, they go in laparoscopically,
02:06so it's not like they cut you open for it.
02:09But you can't have guys stretching like that and possibly having some type of post-surgery issue
02:16with the area that they go in to take care of itself.
02:19Best-case scenario, a few weeks.
02:21Worst-case scenario, a month, meaning Joel Embiid is not playing in the first round of the playoffs.
02:27And they're not going to win.
02:28Assuming that diagnosis is right.
02:29Right, and they're not going to win.
02:30No.
02:30Because the way it looks now with the 7-8 situation,
02:33they most likely would play the Celtics in the first round without Embiid.
02:37They're not going to be.
02:37Well, you'd have to get there first.
02:39So, even if they got there, they're going to lose to the Celtics in that first round without.
02:42Now, the Celtics lost to the Knicks last night,
02:44but I don't think the Knicks are going to catch them.
02:46The Celtics have to win one more game.
02:47Yeah.
02:48If the Celtics lose their last two games and the Knicks win their last two games,
02:52then the Knicks would be the two-seed.
02:54The Celtics have the Pelicans, and I'm blocking on the empty, maybe Charlotte, I think,
02:59in their last game.
03:00I think they'll win one of the two.
03:02The interesting thing for Boston now, though, is Jalen Brown didn't play last night.
03:08Tatum statistically was great, almost had a triple-double against the Knicks.
03:11Didn't shoot well.
03:12But in the last four minutes of that game, and it was a one-possession game to the very,
03:17very end when the Knicks pulled away and won by six, he was terrible off the dribble.
03:23It's like he had no handles whatsoever.
03:24He made a couple bad passes, got stripped of the ball a couple times, missed a couple
03:29jumpers as well.
03:30That being said, there's a real problem in Boston now, as much as Philly's got a real
03:35problem, because Embiid, as per usual, finds a unique way to get hurt.
03:40My head hurts, my eye hurts, my elbow hurts, my knee hurts.
03:43He's all real injured.
03:43My ass hurts, my this hurts, my that hurts.
03:45No, not the ass.
03:46The guys like that, that game used to play Operation.
03:49Everything hurts.
03:50You know, base, base, base, base, base, right?
03:53But Jalen Brown has Achilles tendonitis.
03:59That's why he did not play yesterday.
04:01And obviously on the heels of Tatum going out last year at the Garden with the Achilles,
04:06he's in the ruptured Achilles, that is an injury to watch, because obviously, if Jalen
04:12Brown cannot go or cannot go at full speed, then the Celtics are not winning a championship,
04:17nor are they a problem for the Knicks.
04:19That is absolutely true.
04:20But, but they could, if the Sixers get to seventh without Embiid, they can win without
04:26Jalen Brown.
04:26They can win that series without Jalen Brown.
04:28Yeah, but they wouldn't.
04:29So, they wouldn't play the Celtics right away.
04:31The Sixers would have to play, and they could get to seventh if they win.
04:34If they win the play to get the seventh seed, my bad, and the Celtics stay at number two.
04:37Yeah.
04:38Yeah, I got you on that.
04:38They would still be in the sixth.
04:39Yeah.
04:40He could come back for that next round and probably be 100% by then.
04:43I think, and I get no joy out of saying this, except I get tremendous joy out of saying
04:49this, the Sixers are one and done.
04:51Once again, a Philadelphia sports team, right before the playoffs start, gets bad news,
04:58and the basketball season in Philadelphia has come to an end.
