00:00Tonight, on the Curse of Oak Island.
00:03It's very possible a holy relic related to Jesus
00:05may have been concealed with a Templar treasure on Oak Island.
00:09Whoa.
00:10Wow.
00:12Got a hit in here.
00:13You do? Down to the left?
00:14Yeah. Exciting.
00:15Oh, wow.
00:17That's an amazing find.
00:18We've never seen this on an archeology site.
00:20Wow.
00:22The peak use was in the 14th and 15th century.
00:25These could have been dropped by the depositors.
00:27That's pretty exciting.
00:30There is an island in the North Atlantic
00:33where people have been looking for an incredible treasure
00:37for more than 200 years.
00:40So far, they have found a stone slab
00:44with strange symbols carved into it.
00:46Man-made workings that date to medieval times.
00:50And a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:55To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:01And, according to legend, one more will have to die
01:06before the treasure can be found.
01:21The weather's changing pretty quick.
01:23Yeah.
01:23I mean, it's the same problem we face every year on the island,
01:26which is being at the mercy of the weather.
01:28Yeah.
01:28The bitter chill of fall has arrived on Oak Island.
01:32Well, hopefully, just down another six inches,
01:35we come to the top of a vault or something,
01:39and we get our questions answered.
01:43But for the Laginas and their team,
01:45the trail of clues that could solve a 231-year-old mystery
01:50has never been hotter,
01:52especially in the man-made boulder feature
01:55that they have been investigating on Lot 8.
01:58You know, we do feel this is something very special.
02:01It's certainly unique,
02:02it's been so purposeful and intentional,
02:04it definitely doesn't look like we're anywhere near the bottom yet.
02:07We have a lot of structures that date through
02:10potentially the 1600s, definitely the 1700s,
02:14definitely into the 1800s,
02:15and none of them are like this.
02:17No.
02:18We keep on coming to that potential 1200s time period.
02:24Yeah.
02:25One week ago,
02:26lab tests on cement-like mortar
02:28that were used to seal this cradle of stones together
02:31showed that the feature may be as much as 800 years old,
02:36given the fact that the cradle of stones
02:38was covered by a 40,000-pound boulder
02:41and high traces of silver
02:43had been detected in the ground soil.
02:45The team believes this feature
02:47may be one of the oldest ever found on Oak Island,
02:51and perhaps hiding something of great value.
02:55All right.
02:55I'm going to try a pry bar with this.
03:02There we go.
03:04Good.
03:05I can grab that now.
03:07I have to say that this man-made boulder feature on Lot 8
03:11is certainly the top tier of amazingly unique things.
03:15The most likely explanation to me
03:18is that it was placed there to cover something.
03:20A shaft, a grave, treasure, something.
03:24This stuff is pretty cemented.
03:26I'm hitting a lot of slate here right now.
03:28Like, there's a couple of layers of it.
03:30Yeah.
03:32Hey, guys.
03:33Hello.
03:34Hello.
03:35Hey.
03:37Oh.
03:38Finally, we can get two of us in here.
03:40Took a while.
03:41Yeah, so we started working on the outside edges.
03:44Where Fiona is seems distinctly different than here.
03:48Right.
03:50Even down to the rock formations,
03:52a lot of smaller rocks on this top path,
03:54whereas we had a lot of larger ones down below here.
03:58Even the soil's a little bit different.
04:00Yeah.
04:01So the plan moving forward, then, is, I would assume,
04:05dig down and dig out.
04:07Yeah, I think we should excavate here, too,
04:09just to make sure.
04:11I mean, there's something there.
04:13Yep.
04:13That's exactly it.
04:15Okay.
04:15We'll let you get back to work.
04:16Yeah.
04:17We'll keep you posted.
04:18Okey-doke.
04:19All right.
04:20See you later.
04:23Later that morning.
04:26All right, Rick.
04:28Today is the day.
04:30We're at treasure depth now.
04:33Rick arrives in the Money Pit area,
04:35where the excavation of the Peacock 1 shaft
04:38is approaching a depth of 150 feet.
04:42We're almost in that void area
04:45where Pro Orp saw some objects.
04:48I heard one of them was a shiny.
04:50object.
04:51And I can tell you now,
04:53all the ancient treasures look lovely
04:56in water and mud.
04:57Yeah.
05:00Peacock 1 is another target location
05:03where high traces of silver and gold
05:05were detected in underground water samples
05:08taken from some 200 feet deep
05:10in the solution channel.
05:13And during their core drilling operation this year,
05:16this is also where the team discovered
05:19a 10-foot void at a depth of some 150 feet.
05:24Really, there were interesting things
05:26that we kind of noticed in the imagery.
05:29A void where an underwater camera
05:32recorded enhanced video of potential man-made workings
05:36and metal artifacts.
05:39This has made the team suspect
05:41that they may have discovered
05:42an offset treasure chamber
05:44connected to the original Money Pit.
05:48What would we expect to see
05:49in terms of material pullback?
05:52We'll see some rounded, washed boulders
05:54at this point.
05:56If we see some wood,
05:57everybody's going to lose it.
05:58I mean, because that would mean
05:59we're breaking into a structure.
06:02Anyway, here we go.
06:12Okay, now we got something.
06:15All right, got a lot of cobbles like you said.
06:17Let's see if there's any treasure in those spoils.
06:19Okay? Sure.
06:21I think the most likely place
06:22for a treasure that's still there
06:24is in the solution channel
06:26or in an offset chamber.
06:28Some boulders.
06:30One of the sonic drilling wells
06:31in the Peacock
06:32hit some really interesting stuff.
06:34Maybe it has something to do
06:36with the offset chamber theory.
06:37I'm hoping it does.
06:39Look at how washed those boulders are.
06:41We're definitely into a relative open space.
06:45That's clear, Billy.
06:47Not in this one.
06:50That's the void we're looking for.
06:52What?
06:52There was nothing in there.
06:53We're into the slushy loose area.
06:55Things could have moved around.
06:56Perhaps things fell down into the slushy channel.
07:00Could Terry be correct
07:02that the shaft has encountered the same void
07:05the team drilled into earlier this year?
07:08But the possible artifacts they saw in the underwater video
07:12may have fallen through the loose ground soil
07:14to somewhere much deeper below.
07:19The area of interest for me now
07:21is the bottom of the solution channel.
07:23Sure.
07:23Because it could have fallen anywhere.
07:27Yep.
07:27You have to have an expectation that in the money pit
07:30every scoop has a chance.
07:32Yeah.
07:33So we just have to find it.
07:35Yep, treasure's where you find it as well.
07:37There you go.
07:37When you least expect it.
07:41Next bucket.
07:42All right.
07:44While the dig continues in the money pit area.
07:49Later that afternoon.
07:52All right.
07:53Back in the swamp.
07:55I'm pretty excited because we were finding five and eight sided stakes.
08:00And my guess is they continue.
08:02Right.
08:04Gary and Peter join Billy Gerhardt
08:06on the western side of the triangle shaped swamp.
08:09Well, we have a road.
08:10Yep.
08:11There was a big cargo moving along these roads, maybe.
08:14Yep.
08:14Hopefully we find some of that cargo today, mate.
08:17All right.
08:19They are continuing to look for more sections
08:21of a mysterious sand covered cobblestone road.
08:25Which they have found lined with five and eight sided wooden survey stakes.
08:32Now the team is determined to find out just where this road will lead them.
08:38You see all the rocks on the edge of the road, Gary.
08:40Yeah.
08:41There's a lot of rocks here.
08:43That is for sure.
08:44That's crazy.
08:45Now it's uncovered.
08:46You can actually see the line of rocks that represent the edges of the road,
08:52the sand in the middle.
08:54It's definitely a continuation of the sand road.
08:57Right.
08:58The road signifies a major effort by somebody to do significant work in the body of the swamp.
09:04Look at what we found in the swamp.
09:06Yeah.
09:07You know, as we have chased this so-called sand road,
09:10you ask yourself, is there any association with all the known construction features in the swamp?
09:17No one knows why it's here.
09:19I believe that this road might represent some very early work
09:23and we need to understand it in terms of understanding the mystery.
09:30Hey, Gary.
09:31Hi, mate.
09:32Figured I'd come help you dig.
09:33Yeah, good.
09:36Anything yet or not really?
09:38We can clearly see the sand road now.
09:42Yeah.
09:51Oh, what's that?
09:53Well, that's interesting.
09:55I don't know what to make of it.
10:00I think this is an eight-sided mistake.
10:03Same dimensions overall.
10:05Yeah.
10:06After discovering another section of the sand-covered cobblestone road on the western side of the swamp,
10:12the team has just found another potentially important clue.
10:17It looks like there's sandy material on this,
10:21which would make sense that it was running up against the sand road.
10:25Yeah, I agree.
10:26They seem to be following the edge of the road, just like the row of rocks does.
10:30Yeah.
10:38There's another one right here.
10:40Another one.
10:41It looks like eight.
10:43Oh, that's good.
10:44They were clearly marking this road.
10:46Yeah.
10:47I'm gonna go ahead and I'll get more of it in the cupboard.
10:50All right, guys.
10:51I'm gonna go check on some other things right now.
10:53Let me know if we find anything.
10:55You got it.
11:01Checked the rocks on the other side, Alex, and they had them laid along the road.
11:04Yeah.
11:05You can see both sides of the road.
11:06Yeah, you can see both sides of the road pretty clear.
11:09Yeah, because right now it's right here.
11:11Yeah.
11:12And then on the other side.
11:14Seems like over there, yep.
11:15You get rocks again over here.
11:17Right.
11:18I mean, this is a road, definitely.
11:21But it seems like this would have been built for Oxen.
11:23Yep.
11:24We know there was a lot of work done here.
11:26There has to be an infrastructure to support it, right?
11:28Right.
11:28And you know your Uncle Rick would want to see this, mate.
11:31Yep.
11:31Maybe text him, get it out of here.
11:33I will.
11:33I'll let him know.
11:34When I first saw the sand road, I didn't think it was a sand road.
11:38And now, digging where we are, having followed this path of sand all the way here, this is unique.
11:43Okay.
11:44It's actually the only old road with a sand topping that we found on the island.
11:49And this could be something really important.
11:53Oh, you guys are making a mess.
11:55Are we?
11:55Found something.
11:56A lot of stakes.
11:58A series of stakes along the edge of the road.
12:00What we found that's interesting is that we now have both sides of the road very clearly visible with rocks
12:05on both sides.
12:06Oh, yeah, here.
12:07Somebody put the sand over the top to make it smoother, I think, but it's all that rock underneath there.
12:14I wonder if this is way back when.
12:17Where else did we see all hand-sized cobbles?
12:20We call it the Portuguese stone road out of the swamp.
12:23Just kind of standing where I am right now, looking down the road, I mean, it looks like it heads
12:27right for where it would intersect, that old stone road in the southeast corner of the swamp.
12:32It would be pretty spot on.
12:34Right.
12:35Could Billy and Alex be correct?
12:38Might this sand-covered road connect with the believed Portuguese stone road, which the team uncovered in the southeast corner
12:45of the swamp back in 2020?
12:49When I say we get Dr. Spooner in, guide us through some cross cuts, and I think it needs to
12:54be more than one.
12:55We know the dog to make swamp coals.
12:57Yeah.
12:59We need to do a cross cut, because then Dr. Spooner can look at the stratigraphy.
13:05Perhaps he can find a carbon-datable organic specimen.
13:09The hope is that it will be very enlightening, because we could find connections to the Portuguese stone road.
13:16Well, let's keep digging, see what's what.
13:18Yeah.
13:19Well, let's clean it up, and then we can see how wide it is.
13:21Yeah.
13:27The following morning.
13:30Hey, Scott.
13:31Good morning, Scott.
13:31Hey, Scott.
13:32Hey, Scott.
13:32Hey, guys.
13:33Good morning.
13:33Welcome back to the war room.
13:35You brought a lot of thoughtful discussion to this table.
13:38Rick and members of the team meet once again with author, researcher, and 32nd degree Freemason, Scott Clark.
13:47Scott Clark has done some research lately, and he has additional clues to the idea, the concept that a sacred
13:54religious treasure has been buried on this island.
13:56So, having said that, Scott, we look forward to your presentation.
14:02Yeah, thank you very much, Rick.
14:03I've been presenting research with you guys quite a number of times.
14:07My presentation is titled, From Nazareth to Nova Scotia.
14:10I have additional clues that I believe really strengthen the theory that Oak Island does conceal a sacred religious treasure.
14:21Two years ago, Scott presented a map of Mahone Bay featuring Oak Island, which was drawn in 1762 by Charles
14:30Morris.
14:31That same year, Morris, who was also the surveyor general for England and a high-ranking Freemason, was responsible for
14:40dividing Oak Island into 32 four-acre lots.
14:45So, I quickly realized that the Masonic script A was pointing directly up to Oak Island, 33 years before the
14:52discovery of the money pit.
14:54It was Scott's belief that Charles Morris purposely used a Masonic-styled A in the word Mahone on the map,
15:01in order to point toward the location where priceless religious treasures of the Knights Templar were buried.
15:10So, as you guys know, the Masonic script A with a V-shaped crossbar has definitely been used at times
15:16throughout history as much more than just a simple letter.
15:19It's been found on Templar churches throughout Europe, carvings by the Knights of Christ, and of course on the earliest
15:28map of Mahone Bay, which I've shown before.
15:31The A in Mahone has a V-shaped crossbar, which is very similar to a Masonic compass and square symbol.
15:38So, I recently became aware of this really interesting artifact in Rome.
15:42It's in a church called the Basilica of the Holy Cross, and it houses several relics related to the Passion
15:49of Christ.
15:49These relics are believed to include a piece of the true cross, one of the nails that was believed to
15:55have been used, and one of the relics is actually called the Titulus Crucis.
16:01The Titulus Crucis, or title of the cross, was a wooden tablet that was placed above the head of Jesus
16:09Christ when he was crucified.
16:12It was reportedly inscribed with the words, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
16:19So, as soon as I saw the Titulus Crucis, I was immediately drawn to the letter A at the bottom
16:24there, the V-shaped crossbar, highlighted in red, in the name Nazarenus.
16:31The Templars did have a major presence in Rome.
16:34The holy relics that were housed in the Basilica also held immense significance for the Templars, who cherished and visited
16:42this important religious site.
16:44So, below is just a comparison of the two.
16:47The Morris map from 1762, showing the two different A's, and of course the place name Nazarenus on the Titulus
16:55Crucis.
16:57So, of course, the big question is why? Why was this particular A carved with a V-shaped crossbar on
17:04the Titulus Crucis?
17:06Why is it on the 1762 Morris map of Mahone Bay?
17:11It seems to me fairly possible that this letter A with a V-shaped crossbar is connected to Jesus.
17:18So, additional clues that I believe really strengthen the theory.
17:22On the map, at the far right, is the name St. Margaret's Bay.
17:26St. Margaret was known throughout history as having owned a piece of the actual true cross of Jesus.
17:34And Morris also incorporated three of the A's within the name St. Margaret's Bay.
17:40They have that same V-shaped crossbar, whereas all the other A's on the map do not.
17:45And as I've shown before, the last time in the war room.
17:50By utilizing those three small A's in the name St. Margaret's Bay, if you created a circle on the map
17:55using the exact arc created by the three Masonic script A's,
18:00the circle will not only pass directly through the compass rows of the map, but also directly over Oak Island.
18:08Yeah.
18:10So, Jesus was venerated by the Catholic orders, the Knights Templar, the Knights of Christ, the Knights of Malta,
18:17any of whom may have been responsible for depositing or incorporating crosses on Oak Island.
18:23I believe that it's very possible a piece of the actual true cross of Jesus may have been concealed with
18:29the Templar treasure on Oak Island.
18:31In the war room, 32nd degree Freemason Scott Clark is presenting clues found on an 18th century map of Mahone
18:40Bay,
18:41which he believes offers more evidence that priceless religious artifacts may be buried on Oak Island.
18:49And here's another example.
18:51Cory Amol, he took the photo that's shown right here.
18:55He informed me that an A with a V-shaped crossbar was found at the Convent of Christ in Comar,
19:02Portugal, which is a Templar church.
19:04That's right.
19:05Recently, the Convent of Christ displayed a number of Portuguese Templar gravestones, which had these pentacles engraved on them.
19:14And the pentacle is a pentagram within a circle.
19:17It was adopted by Christians during medieval times as a symbol of Jesus and the five wounds that he suffered
19:24during the crucifixion.
19:25Every pentagram consists of five letter A's in varying positions.
19:31And as we can see, this includes the A with a V-shaped crossbar.
19:37So it's interesting that in all the world, the only country that incorporates the five wounds of Christ on its
19:42national flag and its early coinage, of course, is Portugal.
19:46And by association, the Azores.
19:49Both of their flags to this day still have the five blue shields arranged in the shape of a cross.
19:56And on each shield, we see the five dots, which are said to represent the five wounds of Jesus.
20:02The Azores are a Portuguese archipelago of nine islands, some 870 miles west of mainland Portugal.
20:10On the 15th and the 16th century, there is evidence of a Portuguese presence on the Oak Island.
20:17In 2022, Portuguese researcher, Francisco Nogueira, met with a team as they were investigating a strange rock wall on Lot
20:2726 of Oak Island.
20:29The rock wall. This wall appears to be created in the world Portuguese style of building rock fences.
20:37No way.
20:38And curiously, Francisco not only affirmed that the wall appeared to be of Portuguese design, but matched similar rock walls
20:48found in the Azores.
20:50And with the discovery or the revelation of the Piplato coin this year, I think on a research note, we'd
20:57have to turn our attention back to Portugal.
20:59And the Azores as well.
21:01They would probably have the cross with the five, you know, wounds of Christ.
21:05That was normal for Portugal currency back then.
21:07It does have that.
21:10Is it possible that the 14th century silver coin, reportedly found in the original money pit by James Pit Blato,
21:18might be a corroborating clue to support Scott Clark's theory?
21:24I'm not the only researcher that's found a number of connections with early Christian relics and Oak Island.
21:30I believe that with this new information I presented regarding the gate with the V-shaped crossbar, it is perhaps
21:36a clue that there is something on Oak Island directly connected to Jesus Christ.
21:42And these groups, the Templars, Knights of Christ.
21:46It does track fits with the history that we know.
21:49Oh, absolutely.
21:50Yep.
21:50Yep.
21:51It's something we can continue to investigate.
21:53It's what we're looking for if we can prove it out.
21:55The thing that connects the old world across the Atlantic to Oak Island.
21:59Right.
22:00Right.
22:00I think potentially going to the Azores is an excellent thought.
22:06So, say thank you to you, continue your excellent research, because what you find may be critically important to us.
22:14Sounds good.
22:15Thanks very much, Rick.
22:15Really appreciate it.
22:17Thanks, Scott.
22:17Thank you, Scott.
22:21Later that morning.
22:24So, we're going to do one trench.
22:26Dr. Spooner joins Rick and members of the team on the western side of the swamp.
22:31The idea is to do it across the road, and what we're hoping to do is see some kind of
22:38feature, wood, cut wood, underneath the sand.
22:44As Billy digs a trench, or crosscut, in the sand and cobblestone road, Dr. Ian Spooner will be looking for
22:52man-manipulated clues, such as cut wood, to submit for carbon dating.
22:57This could help him determine when the road was created.
23:06It's still sand.
23:08Yeah.
23:09There's a lot of material.
23:11Yeah.
23:14Was it a road, and then the sand put on after?
23:16Yeah, that's the one thing we've got to take a look at.
23:18If there's rocks, then dust, then sand.
23:20Yeah.
23:21That's two generations, then, of construction.
23:24Right.
23:24So, we're digging through the sand road, and what we saw were these layers.
23:28Layer of sand on top, organics below the sand, then rocks under that that might have been used to reinforce
23:35the sides of this road.
23:38It's like Kaji doing.
23:39Yeah.
23:43Got a hit in here.
23:45You do?
23:46Yeah.
23:48It's iron.
23:51I think it's out.
23:54Boop.
23:55Boop, boop, boop, boop.
23:58That's exciting.
24:05What in the...
24:08Or do you think we might have an old ox now?
24:13Yeah.
24:14After digging into the sand and stone road on the western side of the swamp, Katya has just found a
24:20potentially important artifact.
24:23Yeah.
24:24And it definitely is square, which obviously isn't modern.
24:31And the ox would have been towing the carts with everything, right?
24:35An ox shoe nail?
24:36Could Billy be correct that the team has found evidence that heavy cargo was moved along this road long ago?
24:43If so, just what type of cargo was it?
24:47That's encouraging.
24:49An old nail makes me more confident that what we're standing on is something old.
24:53Who knows what we might find in the sand?
24:55Let's keep going.
24:56If we can make a determination that the road is old, then to me it speaks eloquently to the fact
25:03that the road was constructed to gain access into a wetland and that heavy loads were transported across it.
25:14Yeah, that's a cut piece of wood there.
25:16Yeah.
25:23Right.
25:24As the teeth are going by here, I mean, there's a lot of rocks here.
25:27Yeah.
25:27Somebody lay them down as a base.
25:29Yeah, that's cut too.
25:30Yeah.
25:31So something like that is what we want to get a date from.
25:34Yeah.
25:35So we're digging through the sand road and what we see is cut wood above the stones and below the
25:41sand.
25:41Look at this, Peter.
25:43That log's cut at the end too, which I think was put down to help stabilize the sand with the
25:50intent of actually supporting a fair bit of weight.
25:53What really stands out to me is some of the layering.
25:56It looks like brush that's been just piled down, piled on top.
26:01Yeah.
26:02I mean, it's pretty complex construction, but it's hastily done.
26:05The Portuguese stone road is made the same way.
26:08Okay, take a look at this.
26:10That's cut wood.
26:11Wow.
26:12In 2020, when the team uncovered the stone road in the southeast corner of the swamp, they found layers of
26:20hand cut tree branches beneath the cobblestones that served as support bedding.
26:26Could these branches offer a clue that this sand road may indeed connect to the road in the southeast corner?
26:34But it's worth trying to figure out the timing of this, because if it connects to the stone road, then
26:42maybe it's all of a certain design.
26:44That stick right there that's still embedded in the side.
26:47Yeah.
26:48I think that's going to be the one that's going to tell the tale, would it not?
26:51Yes.
26:51We might get a good date off that wood too.
26:54Mm-hmm.
26:54But what I'd like to do is move to another site, do another trench.
26:58If you can do that, Billy.
26:59Yep.
27:00Okay.
27:01Good luck.
27:02See you guys.
27:06The next morning.
27:09Morning.
27:10How's it going?
27:11We've already gone down another 20 feet.
27:13So at this point, the can is down to 170.
27:16That's great.
27:17In the Money Pit area, Rick and other members of the team monitor the excavation of the Peacock 1 caisson.
27:24I noticed we're getting full buckets as well.
27:27Yeah.
27:27Which is good.
27:28The more spoils we go through, the more chance we got finding treasure.
27:32Everything points to getting on the 210.
27:34All right.
27:35Thanks, Ed.
27:36Thanks a lot, Ed.
27:36Appreciate it.
27:37Appreciate it.
27:38Keep your fingers crossed.
27:40Yeah.
27:42What do you got?
27:44And you're smiling.
27:46Look at that.
27:47That came out of Peacock 1.
27:49What the heck is that?
27:50That's cement.
27:51Let's have a look.
27:52It just kind of jumped out on the wash plant.
27:55Yeah, that is cement.
27:56Yeah.
27:58You know what that makes me think of?
28:00My mind went right to the vault, 1897.
28:03Yeah, the vault.
28:05The vault was encased in concrete.
28:08That's concrete.
28:09Not maybe.
28:10Wow.
28:13In 1897, treasure hunters Frederick Blair and William Chappell reported drilling into
28:19a seven-foot-high wooden vault that was encased in concrete at a depth of 153 feet.
28:26During this same incident, they claimed to have found traces of gold and a piece of parchment bearing the letters
28:33VI when they extracted their drill bit.
28:36Is it possible that this concrete could be evidence of the so-called chapel vault?
28:42That needs to go to the lab.
28:44Absolutely.
28:45I'm going to leave that with you.
28:47I've got to get back down to the wash plant.
28:49All right.
28:49See you guys.
28:50Step.
28:50That's why the wash plant exists.
28:53Because drilling, the sinking of caissons, metal detecting, you need all the tools in the toolbox.
29:02Here we go.
29:03Let's see if we find something.
29:14Hey, Charles.
29:16Look out here.
29:20This is pretty peculiar.
29:23You know what that looks like?
29:25At the wash plant, Derek Couch has just made a potentially important discovery.
29:31It looks like a Portuguese stone shot to me is the fact that it's coming out of this at 100
29:37-plus feet down.
29:38Okay.
29:39This is cool, man.
29:40We found one before in the money paper.
29:42A possible piece of stone shot found in the spoils removed from the Peacock 1 shaft?
29:49Dating as far back as the 12th century, hand-carved stone shot was a projectile that was discharged from both
29:57small cannons and early handheld firearms.
30:01Curiously, the team has found two stone shots in recent years.
30:05One on lot 15 and the other deep in the money pit area.
30:11Incredibly, according to scientific testing, both of those may have originated in the Azores Islands of Portugal.
30:19We got to have Laird and Rick come down and take a look at this.
30:22Yeah, you better.
30:23Absolutely.
30:24I'm going to text them.
30:25All right.
30:26Have them come down.
30:27Is it possible that Derek and Charles have found another identical piece of stone shot?
30:34Way to go.
30:34Keep an eye.
30:36And if so, could it be another key clue to help identify just who was behind the Oak Island mystery?
30:43Charles.
30:44Hey, Laird.
30:45You get a smile on your face a mile long.
30:48Well, take a look at that.
30:53Wow.
30:54Look at that.
30:56What do you make of it?
30:57Well, it looks like a stone shot, for sure.
31:00I don't see how that would occur naturally here.
31:03The Emma and the CT scan might tell us something.
31:05You might see the chisel marks or whatever?
31:08Yeah.
31:10It was found 100 plus feet down, so it could come from the solution channel.
31:14It could come from a little bit higher.
31:17All I know is 100 plus.
31:19I mean, either way, if it's a stone shot, it shouldn't be there.
31:21In 40 years, we've never seen this on an archeology site.
31:25As the appearance of the other ones.
31:27Yeah.
31:28There was a suggestion that it could have come from the azo.
31:31So we have to check into that.
31:33Very curious, funny.
31:34Cool.
31:36If Larry's correct in his assessment that it is a stone shot.
31:40Okay.
31:41Thanks, guys.
31:42I think it would be quite remarkable.
31:44It's amazing because now we have found three in different locations.
31:48And this one was found in an area where we've actually found traces of precious metals deep underground as well.
31:57Meanwhile, back in the Money Pit area.
32:00I think we're at bottom.
32:01The excavation of the Peacock One shaft has reached bedrock in the solution channel.
32:07So, how's it going?
32:08You saw how it was turning, but it really wasn't going anywhere?
32:12Yeah.
32:12They're on the bottom.
32:13The teeth are on the bottom at 210, just about where we thought.
32:16Nothing else is to note?
32:17Unfortunately, no.
32:18Most of the stuff we're pulling up is relatively loose.
32:21There's some gypsum from the bottom as well.
32:24Sadly, the structure that we thought are hopeful doesn't seem to have materialized.
32:29Unfortunately, we're done.
32:33Hey, guys.
32:35How are we doing?
32:36You tell us.
32:37Yeah.
32:38Holes cleaned up.
32:39We definitely are in the later bedrock for sure.
32:42I'll say it.
32:43It's disappointing, especially given the clue we just found.
32:46Charles says it better than anyone, you know?
32:50Maybe he didn't find it yet, but it's down there.
32:52We collected samples of soil.
32:55We collected water samples.
32:57They show precious metals.
32:59So, we may be close to something.
33:02As everyone knows, we didn't find the treasure.
33:05But we're buoyed by the fact that, you know, we all stuck together in this, including you.
33:10And now we have a decision to make.
33:12Where do we go next?
33:14We're certainly not giving up.
33:15Awesome.
33:17Yeah.
33:17Thank you, guys.
33:18Thank you, guys.
33:19You know what?
33:20Okay, the treasure wasn't right here, but I'm confident we're going to find some treasure.
33:24You just keep moving forward.
33:26That's all it is.
33:27On to the next hole, right?
33:29I mean, at some point, this will get solved.
33:33There it is.
33:33On to the next.
33:35On to the next.
33:40The following morning.
33:43Everybody knows why we're here.
33:45The find on the far end of the table here came from Peacock 1.
33:49Rick and other members of the team gather in the lab.
33:53Well, what's unique?
33:54I mean, to find one in the money pit, one on lot 15, and now another one came from the
33:59money pit as well.
34:00They are eager to hear Emma's preliminary scientific analysis of the believed stone shot.
34:07Oh, wow.
34:09What do you see, Emma?
34:11So, there's these two little divots.
34:14I'm from the cross section.
34:16Up on this end, there's a divot up here.
34:19So, these are all wear marks or marks of being worked at.
34:24By humans, not nature, correct?
34:27I would assume so.
34:28Yeah.
34:29This one's a little rough, which is a good thing because the original stone shots were
34:34made by stonemasons.
34:37The way they were created is you have a stonemason and basically just hitting it.
34:44And this one, you can clearly see the peck marks.
34:46Which does identify this as a stone shot.
34:50We believe that some of these fit swivel guns in Portugal.
34:55We know that because we took them.
34:59During their trip to Portugal in 2021, Rick and members of the team visited the military
35:06museum in Lisbon.
35:07Oh, look at that.
35:08It's pretty close.
35:11So, I would say that's a match to this.
35:13Where they were amazed to discover that both of the stone shots matched with a 15th century
35:19Portuguese cannon.
35:22Let's pin down a timeframe then.
35:24When these were used and when they went out of use.
35:27Yeah.
35:27I mean, the peak use of stone shot was in the 14th and 15th century.
35:31And cast iron cannonball was introduced in 1450.
35:33So, it replaced these pretty quickly.
35:36Well, the 14th century.
35:40It's into the same timeframe as the Portuguese coin that the Play-Doh found while drilling in the money pit.
35:46Yeah.
35:46An early day like that would be highly suggestive of that.
35:49Absolutely.
35:51In the lab, the team has just learned that the object found in the Peacock 1 spoils is a potentially
35:57600-year-old stone shot.
36:00And if it is, then these could have been dropped by the depositors.
36:04Yeah.
36:05The timeline associated with the use of stone shot predates the accepted history of the discovery of the North American
36:12continent.
36:13This type of stone shot would have been used in the 13-1400s.
36:19We know that there's a strong connection, possibly, to the order of Christ and the mystery.
36:25And they had the ability to get to the new world.
36:29This could be an important clue.
36:31I don't know what your brother might would say.
36:33This is nice, but go out there and find some more.
36:36So, let's give it a shot.
36:37Only if we get out there.
36:39All right.
36:40See you later.
36:43Later that afternoon.
36:46Hey, Marty.
36:47Hello.
36:48Hey, big brother.
36:48What's going on?
36:50A little bit of an update for you from the Peacock.
36:53Okay.
36:54Rick meets via video conference with Marty, who is currently back in Michigan for business concerns.
37:00So, we have reached the bottom of the solution channel.
37:03Yeah.
37:04And we weren't finding much of anything other than the proof of unconsolidated soils.
37:10Mm-hmm.
37:11But somewhere between 100 and 150 feet, this came up.
37:16I don't know if you can see it.
37:18Oh, yeah.
37:19I sure as heck can.
37:21It's appearance, obviously, is stone shot, right?
37:25Yeah.
37:26You remember Gary found the one at the surface on lot 15?
37:30Yeah.
37:31Yeah.
37:31So, we have the money pit fine.
37:33We have the lot 15 fine.
37:35And now we have this.
37:36That's pretty exciting because, Rick, that would imply that those stone shots are everywhere.
37:42Correct.
37:42And those things, are they not like, you know, they quit using them like in 15-something?
37:49Yeah.
37:49In the 1500s.
37:51Yeah.
37:53This stone shot means people were down there a long time ago.
37:57And, again, more evidence of activity long before anybody thought there were Europeans
38:04here.
38:04Probably the 1400s, maybe the 1300s.
38:08So, it's hard to overstate the significance of this thing.
38:12Really boggles my mind.
38:15We can have Laird reach out to Dr. Rayside at Acadia.
38:19He did the previous analysis of the stone.
38:22We need to know what type of rock this is and where it might have come from.
38:26Okay.
38:26Well, we need to do that.
38:28What else you got for me?
38:30You know, we are coming to the end of the search year.
38:33Well, that leads me to ask you a question.
38:36How are you feeling about our efforts this year?
38:40The year has been very frustrating.
38:42We made very educated choices in the money pit, but it was less than we had hoped for
38:51at this point.
38:52Yeah.
38:54That's how I feel.
38:55How do you feel?
38:56The island is just the most frustrating thing I've ever been involved in.
39:01But we did, I think, prove that the solution channel played a huge role in this.
39:09So, you know, I still think there's a decent chance that what we seek is down in that solution
39:14channel.
39:14You just have to figure it out.
39:16Right.
39:17It's been disappointing because we have not solved the mystery.
39:20But it doesn't mean that you lack hope.
39:23It doesn't mean that you're not optimistic about the next, the next case on.
39:27Why don't we switch gears a little bit and ask Dr. Spooner and Dr. Michael.
39:32You know, they're intimately familiar with all the data.
39:34Let's ask them where they would dig.
39:36If they were treasure hunters.
39:38I think that's a very appropriate thing to do.
39:41We'll get right on that, ask them, but we need an X on the ground.
39:44Yeah.
39:45Soon.
39:46Okie doke.
39:47All right.
39:47Is that it?
39:48Then get back to work.
39:49That's all we got.
39:50We'll get back to work.
39:51Thanks Rick.
39:53Appreciate it.
39:53See ya.
39:54Yeah.
39:54Take care.
39:56For Rick, Marty and their team, this week has underscored the need for perseverance in
40:03their quest to solve the Oak Island mystery.
40:07Because new finds and research suggest they could be closing in on a sacred treasure with
40:15extraordinary historic implications.
40:17science.
40:19So now, as time is running out for the year, how can they zero in on where X marks the
40:27spot?
40:30Do they rely on science or luck?
40:34Perhaps it will take both, along with their most precious asset, their faith.
40:45Next time, on the Curse of Oak Island.
40:48I want to find something that we can date.
40:51Exactly.
40:51There you go, Mike.
40:52Wow.
40:53Oh.
40:54What's under there?
40:55Wow.
40:56I want to see what's underneath here.
40:57Some of the highest silver and gold values will show up right in there.
41:00Hold on, Josh.
41:01Hold on.
41:02Boom.
41:03Definitely into some hard stuff.
41:04Wow.
41:05Check that one out.
41:06That's a great find.
41:07That all adds up to a possible human presence here in the 1400s.
41:11That's really rare.
41:12It's amazing.
