00:00Multi-sport athlete Perla Lopez from Mexico challenged herself to spend 32 days alone on top of her country's highest
00:08mountain, Pico de Orizaba, a dormant volcano 18,490 feet above sea level in the Mexican state of Veracruz, which
00:19is also the third highest mountain in North America.
00:22According to Reuters, the young climber, a psychologist by profession, started mountaineering five years ago, during which she's reached 160
00:30different peaks.
00:32She was inspired by Spanish mountaineer Fernando Garrido, who spent 62 days in Argentina at 22,600 feet above sea
00:42level in 1986.
00:45The challenge involves loneliness, weather, that lightning will not strike me, that I will not die of hypothermia, that I
00:52will not get mountain sickness, that I will not have a heart attack.
00:55It involves a lot of things that I had to check before coming here.
00:59Though she is spending her time on the mountain alone, Perla has the support of a full team of people
01:04who bring her food, clean clothes, and take down her garbage and waste so as not to pollute the area.
01:10Perla has started her journey on March 20th and is expected to stay at the peak until April 20th.
