00:29last time we talked to you was at almost acoustic christmas yep and we were asking you about the
00:34new album you said there's one coming uh-huh but i need to finish up some lyrics and a couple

00:39i need to polish it a little bit and i we pushed you like when and you said it's not
00:43going to be
00:44january yeah i feel like i have been just in this lyric cave of my mind um like an animal
00:53like
00:54busting out of a cage this whole year until very recently when finally got it all done just um
00:59i don't know i kind of have to go underground to get all of it like i especially this time
01:04it's
01:04just the lyrics are kind of the thing where i feel like they matter more than ever i guess i
01:09always feel
01:09that way but right now just feels super important i really care about all this music and um to get
01:16to
01:16a place i kind of have to just like disappear for a minute so i disappeared and then i came
01:20back just
01:20like running full speed to the end of everything i'm so so excited about our album i'm so proud of
01:28this song um yeah i don't know ask me questions i'll ask you a question so the album is sanctuary
01:33it comes out june 5th and you were just talking about your process of finishing with lyrics you have
01:39all the music finished it's all done and then then you go back and do lyrics no see it's sort
01:44of well
01:45it was all kind of it's all been happening kind of random but the vocals are one of the last
01:50things
01:50to get thrown down so you know as we're building the songs i have lyrics i have bits i have
01:56the point
01:56you know we've got the center of of most of things but it's like cool cool cool i'll write that

02:01later and then it comes down to it's like you really got to write it and it's got to be
02:04epic
02:04because at this point the music sounds killer so yeah speaking of epic you do you arrange all of
02:09your music i assume you do because it's all epic um we do not me all by myself we've worked
02:16with some
02:16incredible people this time around um three producers actually nick rascalix who we've worked
02:21with a lot love him he just feels so much like a part of this we did some tracks together
02:27uh and then
02:29also we sort of found this amazing new collaboration with um zach servini and jordan fish so as a team
02:35like
02:36being in there with them and creating these songs we just had a huge creative burst it has been um
02:43just a i don't know like a new a new energy it's hard to really explain but it feels really
02:49special
02:49speaking of the new energy let's talk about who will you follow which is your new single
02:56um crazy good thanks great and it also sort of has shows what i was talking about with the
03:04dynamics of your music it starts soft and then when it comes in it punches you in the face thank
03:09you i love that thank you me too i like contrast i really do you seem to be drawn to
03:16soundtrack style
03:17music yeah for sure always have been yeah um i feel like maybe when i was in here before we
03:23were
03:23talking about alantis morissette like one of my early inspirations that sort of set this path
03:29like a little bit of directionally um was that song uninvited um from the city evangelist soundtrack
03:36like something where it is you know like contemporary music it's rock you know it's got all the things but
03:41then at the same time it's like the score you know the cinema at the same time like i don't
03:48know
03:48there's something just huge and powerful about that i grew up loving um i playing piano and um being
03:55into mozart and being a nerdy choir girl kid and um at the same time heavy music and alternative rock
04:03music was like really really hitting me in my in my teens um and the two worlds coming together was
04:09sort of that click for me on our sound is it true that part of the formation of evanescence was
04:14you
04:14singing a meatloaf song uh i mean sort of i met uh my guitar player back then um that way
04:23like i was
04:23playing the piano in the corner and what was the song i'll do anything oh yeah yeah totally that
04:27riff that piano riff i was like 13 years old like oh i can do this thing yeah and that's
04:32what sent
04:32that's that's what sent the rock boy running over of course so tell us about who will you follow
04:37what is that about someone in particular uh it's about something god it's it's where we're at
04:43yeah um it's about um what is real uh breaking through the lies i feel like we are just inundated
04:50with so much information now um with people that have a stake in what we believe and it feels like
04:56truth is for sale um and so this for me is kind of this is about breaking through that into
05:03the real
05:03world and um the album you know it's called sanctuary it's like that it's a sanctuary not an escape
05:10from this chaotic surreal violent time um but escape from the lies saying that we're not living in that
05:20crazy time right it is a sanctuary of truth and community you know like i moving from the song
05:27to album i just feel like this music is a sanctuary for me it has been it is every time
05:33you know last
05:34time we made an album it was um the pandemic hitting all around us at the same time and you
05:38know kind of wondering what's next and how do we go on tour and you know will things ever be
05:42normal
05:42again um and i think when we're in these big in my life powerful and painful and difficult moments
05:50and and also in the outside world going through these wild moments where we feel like we don't
05:55have control and things are slipping through our fingers um the music is a place for me to be able
06:01to
06:02say anything no censorship no holding back nobody's telling me i can't anything it's like it's our world
06:10and it um it just feels so beautiful also to give somebody else something that gives them joy
06:15speaking of which you're going on tour this year yes tell tell us about that you're going to be in
06:20the united states in the summer first yep u.s tour in the summer uh with spirit box very excited
06:26um
06:27and then europe after that uh with poppy we've got some k-flay in there we've got nova twins on
06:33the
06:33whole thing really killer cast going on how much time do you spend are you spending now
06:39planning i don't know stage show or whatever it is you have to plan you know after coming out from
06:43the underground there's just like a million things so like finishing the album but then now it's
06:48starting to get into that okay like let's work on the tour production and the concept and all those
06:53things so that's sort of this this is the entrance of that time kind of every everything at once yeah
06:58that sounds fun it sounds fun to create a stage show it is yeah it really is and we get
07:03to work
07:04with amazing artists we're still kind of nailing all that down this is this is the time for that
07:07right um but once you have your concept you know um the video happening and the album artwork happening
07:14you're like okay let's put us into the world of of this new era you know and of course incorporate
07:20all the classic things throw the hits in there you know of course a little bit of everything but
07:26the album is the center of what we're doing and why we're going on tour so how do we how
07:30do we
07:30create that world visually yes it's always fun absolutely again the album is sanctuary it comes
07:35out june 5th and the single is who will you follow why did you pick that as the first song
07:41off your
07:41album you know it's almost every single time i want to say every single time it's one of the last
07:46songs you do like you think you've got it you're so excited you've been on this train and you get
07:51to
07:52a point where you really understand like the album as a whole and you're getting towards the end of
07:58things and then there's this like one more song this was the second to last song um to come together
08:04and we all were just like oh that's the one so you all knew yeah totally right away fantastic well
