00:00So you've been with Euphoria in a way since Planet A1.
00:04Yeah.
00:04So how many episodes did you direct?
00:06I only directed one.
00:08Only one of Euphoria is pretty major.
00:11I know, one of Euphoria is pretty major.
00:12But it was truly life-changing.
00:14It was just such an incredible creative experience.
00:15It was a group of people that were all mind-blowingly inspirational,
00:19and I learned so much.
00:21And everything that I got to experience as a director on that set
00:24has come with me to every other set that I've gone on after that.
00:27Tell me about your first day walking on the set of Euphoria to direct it.
00:33You know, it's hard to remember the first day.
00:35I don't even remember what scene was first.
00:37We had such a, like, a sort of, I don't know, how do you explain it?
00:43Like, our schedule was very start and stop.
00:45You know, so it was like we would be prepping because we needed to prep
00:49because another episode was off shooting somewhere else.
00:52It's like not a traditional schedule on this show.
00:54So even though you end up getting a traditional amount of days,
00:57it's kind of all spread out in a weird way.
00:59So, and now it feels like a lifetime ago.
01:01I don't know what our first scenes were, but, I mean,
01:04mostly what I remember is just being so grateful to Sam for believing in me
01:08and trusting me with his work and really wanting to live up to what they were doing.
01:13And I was also the first director to do an episode without Marcel Reb as the cinematographer.
01:18And so Drew Daniels was shooting my episode, who's also lovely and very talented,
01:22but I think both of us felt a lot of pressure that we really wanted to execute what had been
01:27established
01:28and, you know, really live up to what the show had set itself up to be.
01:33And so there was definitely a lot of pressure, but I also felt so much support from Sam and everyone
01:38that that also alleviated the pressure in a certain way.
01:42What was it like directing some day on that?
01:44She's so wonderful.
01:45Yeah, the whole cast is wonderful, right?
01:48I mean, it's incredible when you're working with a group of young people
01:50who are so naturally talented and show up so prepared and really care to do the work, you know?
01:56And so whether it was Zendaya or Jacob or Sidney or, you know, I mean, just across the board,
02:03everyone was there and so hungry to just do their best.
02:08And that's a really invigorating way to work with actors.
02:11So as Sam told you, if this is the last season.
02:15I can't believe you're asking me if I think this is the last season.
02:19As Sam told you.
02:20I've asked a lot of you thinking as Sam told you.
02:25All I can say is I wouldn't believe the rumors.
02:29Whatever rumor you've heard, don't believe it.
02:31I mean, Zendaya started the rumor.
02:34I mean, you're very more shy.
02:35I don't know if anyone is reliable when it comes to rumors about Euphoria.
02:39You know what, I completely agree with you because, listen, it's been, what, four years since the last season?
02:44Five years?
02:45Four years.
02:45Four years.
02:46So you just don't know.
02:47Has it been four years?
02:48Since the last season?
02:50Man, time flies.
02:51That is so crazy.
02:53I know.
02:53Tell me about the movie you have coming up.
02:55Oh, well, I was just on the season three of The Night Agent, which I haven't been doing a ton
02:59of acting
02:59because I've been mostly directing.
03:02I just directed a pilot for NBC.
03:04What a pilot?
03:05It's called Key Witness.
03:06So we'll see.
03:08You know, you never know because we actually had a pilot season this year, so we'll see if it gets
03:11picked up.
03:11But Emily Deschanel stars in it.
03:13And I'm really, really happy with it.
03:15I'm so proud of it.
03:16Dean George Harris and John Fox are the writers.
03:19It's just been a great experience, and I really like it.
03:22So I'm hoping.
03:23I'm hoping that gets picked up.
03:24And then I'm about to go back and shoot Yellow Jackets, so I'm excited to return to that set, too.
03:29Why are you excited about Yellow Jackets?
03:31You know, Yellow Jackets is a really fun project as a filmmaker because every episode kind of feels like its
03:36own feature.
03:37You know, like every episode calls for something special, something different, you know.
03:43And so even though you are going in and matching the tone of the show and really serving what's been
03:47established,
03:48you're also asked to kind of bring your own thing in a way that isn't always the case when you're
03:52an episodic director.
03:53And the showrunners on that are so lovely, and they've been just so trusting of the ideas that I brought
03:58to them.
03:59So it's been really fun to do that, and the editors are incredible on that show, too.
04:03So I've had a great experience in post in terms of just watching how it all, you know, comes together
04:09in that world.
04:10Because every ecosystem is different, and I just feel like I've really enjoyed that part of it on Yellow Jackets.
04:16And all the actors.
04:17I mean, you know, it's and, and, and.
04:18You know, it's like the most incredible actors.
04:20They cast the show so well.
04:22I feel like it's not dissimilar to Euphoria in that way, where it's so precisely cast.
04:27It's like no one else in the world could play any of those roles, you know.
04:30And, and they all bring such unique, amazing things to those characters.
