00:00Don Anderson, 97-1.
00:02All right, so are the Pistons playoff built?
00:05This is all that matters now, right?
00:08They've done everything they could possibly accomplish
00:10during the regular season.
00:11They got their superstar back,
00:13and the real question is what's going to happen
00:16when the page turns and you get into postseason basketball.
00:20Here's the feedback coming in.
00:21As a Piston fan, I'm pumped for the playoffs,
00:23but I'm also staying realistic
00:24because I believe they will struggle
00:26to get through the second round.
00:27I'll give Langdon a pass for this deadline,
00:30but hopefully he does better than other bum GMs in this town
00:33and takes this offseason to get a proven player
00:36that can run the floor and shoot to take the pressure off Cade.
00:41I think this is just, it's never going to stop,
00:44and that is the disconnect that I have
00:48with these types of criticisms.
00:51And I'm going to, maybe someday I'll reveal all the details,
00:54but when you're sitting and when you have a chance
00:56to talk to people off the record,
00:58and they say, well,
01:02you know, here's what the trade offers were.
01:05Here's what I was able to negotiate.
01:08And yes, I could have got Michael Porter Jr.
01:11I could have.
01:12This is an example.
01:13An example.
01:15But after negotiating the deal down,
01:20they wanted Assar Thompson and two first-round picks.
01:24And they weren't backing off that.
01:26So I didn't make that trade.
01:28This is a hypothetical, okay?
01:31But when I, the same thing,
01:33I've had one very telling conversation
01:36with the general manager about this exact kind of thing,
01:40where when you hear what the price tag was
01:42after weeks of negotiating,
01:44and it was, okay, this is the last offer.
01:47This is the final last offer.
01:48And if you don't meet, and you go,
01:50no, I wouldn't make that trade.
01:53And so an example is something absurd
01:55that the other team wanted.
01:57And we've been in that position before.
01:59We've been, we've been,
02:00in fact, we've been in there way too much.
02:02We're the team that stinks.
02:03And we're trying to, you know,
02:06rook another team out of way too much
02:08for a player that we have a value at the trade deadline
02:10because we have nothing left to play for.
02:12So you're trying to negotiate the best deal
02:14for your organization,
02:15and those trades rarely go down too.
02:17So, you know,
02:19my man with all the other bum GMs,
02:21I would love to see,
02:23love to see what you would do
02:26with the actual trade offers,
02:27which we'll never know.
02:29No, of course not.
02:30No.
02:30Now, is there times where you,
02:32like, what we don't know,
02:34what got reported or rumored,
02:36is it true that the breaking point
02:39with the Red Wings to get Quinn Hughes
02:41is they didn't want to give up Simon Edmonton?
02:44And if that's the case,
02:45that feels like a swing and a miss.
02:47But we don't know how accurate that.
02:48If that's it,
02:49or is that Quinn Hughes' camp
02:51was not going to negotiate an extension,
02:53that he was going to go to free agency
02:54and you can try to get him at that point.
02:56Right.
02:57If he was unwilling to sign an extension contract,
03:00I mean, there's lots of things
03:01that could have been there.
03:02Lots of reporting on what was there
03:04and what wasn't there.
03:05But, yeah, in the end,
03:08these are moves that were made
03:10or were not made
03:11that could cost people their jobs.
03:14More feedback to the Carson Anderson inbox.
03:16Fox defense travels.
03:17The Pistons can prevent you from scoring
03:19when they're in a drought
03:19and they'll have the best player
03:21at the end of the games
03:21when close games are needed.
03:24Next one,
03:25Dennis in the Thumb says,
03:26the Pistons are kind of like Michigan in a way.
03:29They'll kill you in the paint,
03:30smother you with defense,
03:31and if they catch fire from three,
03:33you'll never have a chance to beat them.
03:35I'm hopeful.
03:37Okay, here's something that matters in the league.
03:40I think two reasons I'll put on my list
03:43of why this team is playoff built.
03:44The first was the depth blossoming in Cade's absence.
03:50Here's the second one.
03:52Last year in the regular season,
03:55Malik Beasley shot 41.6% from three.
03:59He was a huge part of the reason
04:03why the Pistons turned it around
04:05and were a tough team last year.
04:09We're a tough guard.
04:10He added that shot from the perimeter
04:12that mattered in spacing the floor.
04:17This year, Duncan Robinson,
04:18you remember his start
04:19when everybody was saying he's no Malik?
04:21Mm-hmm.
04:22You know he's shooting now from three?
04:24I think probably close to 40.
04:25He's 41% from three on the season.
04:28So he's six-tenths of a point
04:30behind what Malik Beasley was.
04:32But here's what's more important.
04:34Malik Beasley last year in the postseason
04:36shot 33.9%.
04:38Duncan Robinson, his time with the Heat,
04:41played tons of postseason basketball.
04:44He's shot 39.9% from three in the postseason.
04:48Duncan Robinson's shot came around
04:50from the beginning of the year
04:51where there was a bit of a growth period
04:52with this team.
04:53And after it incubated for a while,
04:55he suddenly started shooting
04:57the way he's capable of shooting.
04:59And right now,
05:00he's basically shooting at a Beasley pace.
05:02Couple that with the fact
05:03that through his career,
05:04and I think he's played in like six playoffs,
05:07his playoff field goal percentage
05:09from three is 39.9%.
05:13He's a proven postseason three-point shooter.
05:18And taking that into the postseason,
05:21dare I say they are better
05:24than they were a year ago
05:25with a reliable three-point shooter.
05:28I think they're definitely better.
05:31You look at,
05:32it's really the entire team.
05:34And Cade Cunningham last year
05:35in the playoffs averaged 25 points a game.
05:38The next leading score for the Pistons
05:40was Tobias Harris at just under 16.
05:42I think Tobias gets a bad rap
05:45because of a playoff run with the 76ers
05:48where he wasn't very good.
05:50But otherwise,
05:51he's been pretty consistent.
05:52What he is is what he is
05:53in a regular season, typically.
05:54But the Pistons,
05:56and then it was Malik Blesi
05:56with 14 points,
05:57Dennis Schroeder with 12.5,
05:59Tim Hardaway Jr. with 12.
06:00Jalen Duren averaged 11.8 points
06:02per game last year in the playoffs.
06:05Jalen Duren has taken
06:06this massive leap as a player
06:09where now your top two scorers
06:11last year in the playoffs
06:13gave you 40 points, 41 points.
06:15I think it's pretty safe to say
06:17that I would expect
06:18these top two players
06:19to give you closer to 50 points
06:21and everybody else
06:22is picking their game up too.
06:24This is just,
06:24it's just a better team.
06:26Here's the other thing
06:27that I think is huge.
06:28One year later,
06:30Cade's more of an established superstar.
06:32Without question.
06:33And we have sat there
06:36and complained
06:37being on the receiving end
06:39of the superstar whistle.
06:42it's our turn.
06:44Yes.
06:45It's our turn.
06:45Without him being
06:46an unethical scorer,
06:48you know,
06:48and foul baiting,
06:49that's not what he does.
06:50But now what happens is
06:52if he drives and gets hammered
06:54and he still gets the shot off
06:55where before maybe
06:56he wasn't getting the call,
06:57it's just a basket
06:58with no and one.
06:59Now he's getting the and one.
07:02So look,
07:02there are no guarantees,
07:05but when you lay it all out
07:06and talk about what's important
07:08in the postseason,
07:09superstar,
07:11three-point shooting,
07:13depth,
07:14defense,
07:15and maybe the biggest thing,
07:17and it might be,
07:18I don't know what order
07:19these things are,
07:19but I thought that point
07:21in that CBS Sports article,
07:23how much better,
07:24and you've made the point too,
07:25the Pistons are at center
07:27than a year ago
07:28with the same guy,
07:29all add up to this team
07:31being playoff built
07:31and playoff ready.
07:33I can't wait for the playoffs
07:34for this team.
07:35I feel like case rested.
07:37We got at least,
07:39I think it's a full week
07:41and a day.
07:42I think the playoffs
07:42for the Pistons
07:43would start on Friday
07:44if I'm not mistaken,
07:45Friday or Saturday next week.
07:47Can't wait.
07:48Can't wait.
07:49They still have a couple games
07:50to play out here,
07:52and when I'm watching
07:53the game last night
07:54and when you can breathe
07:55that sigh of relief
07:56in the second half
07:57and say,
07:57okay,
07:57Cade's fine,
07:59and Stewart's fine,
08:00and this team is healthy,
08:02then I start going,
08:03okay,
08:03now what do I want to do
08:04for the last two games?
08:05I don't want to play
08:06Cade Cunningham
08:07by any means.
08:07I don't want to play him
08:0835 minutes,
08:09but do I still have to play him
08:11just to keep his wind up
08:13and keep his,
08:13you know,
08:14he's back to getting some reps?
08:15I'd keep playing him.
08:16You play him like he did last night
08:18where everybody basically
08:19got 24 minutes?
08:21I'm not against that.
08:23Kang,
08:24your thoughts on this case
08:25we've made for this team
08:26being playoff Friday?
08:27You know,
08:27I commend you guys,
08:28and we should be looking
08:29for the positives.
08:30I don't want to be negative,
08:31but there's,
08:32I mean,
08:32the obvious thing about
08:33why they're not playoff built yet
08:34is because they've not
08:35won a playoff series
08:36and from their own
08:37president's mouth,
08:38they haven't won
08:38a home playoff game.
08:39So I think the number one thing
08:40is they got to prove
08:41that they can win
08:42and the only way
08:42you can do that
08:43is actually to do it,
08:44right?
08:45But at least they got
08:46playoff experience last year,
08:47which I thought was big
08:48for especially young guys
08:49like Cade,
08:50Dern,
08:50Thompson.
08:51Those guys need to go
08:51through that experience
08:52because Tobias Harris
08:53has been there before.
08:54Duncan Robinson's been there
08:55before.
08:56JB Bickerstaff's been there
08:57before.
08:58But JB Bickerstaff,
08:59who's the head coach
09:00of this team,
09:00who I love
09:01and I think everyone does,
09:03his main thing was
09:04he never got over the hump
09:05and that's the reason
09:05why Cleveland let him go.
09:07And so can he get over
09:08the hump with this team?
09:09Now,
09:10just like players can get better,
09:11coaches can also get better.
09:13And I believe,
09:14no,
09:14they're going to get out
09:14of the first round.
09:15That's not the question.
09:16The playoff build question
09:16is how far can they go,
09:18right?
09:18Second,
09:18third round.
09:20I think
09:21one of their biggest strengths
09:22is their depth
09:22that you guys have brought up
09:23and other people have brought up.
09:25But the playoff,
09:25when you get to the playoffs,
09:27the rotation shrinks.
09:28It does.
09:29And so when the game's on the line,
09:30do you want to see
09:31Paul Reed and Javante Green
09:33out there that much?
09:34But that's their strength.
09:36I thought that's where
09:36you were going with their
09:37strength weakness thing,
09:38Gator,
09:38actually.
09:39Because they play defense
09:40great all year on.
09:41But you know who else
09:41plays better defense
09:42in the playoffs?
09:43Everybody.
09:44Everyone steps up their defense.
09:45Now,
09:45they're not going to be
09:46Detroit-style defense good,
09:47but they step up
09:48their defenses too.
09:49Why is this team
09:51playoff built?
09:522-4-8-5-3-9-97.
09:55We'll talk some Tigers
09:56next hour.
09:57Also,
09:57Gator,
09:58the conflict within you.
10:00I wonder how much of it
10:02there is
10:02when it comes to this topic.
10:03We'll get to that
10:04at 11-02-97.
10:05one.
10:06One.
18:36itself and i totally you know black out the uh the the pretentiousness of of the event okay
18:45which brings us to sort of the next question
18:51do people who don't play golf love the masters
18:57and if so is it is it a small group i mean how many people out there that just don't
19:02play golf at
19:02all love this event i can't imagine it's a lot of people right is it it feel like this event
19:12well for those who are into it and it's weird because i can think of something in that category
19:17for me but the people who are into it are they almost all golfers and you might be out there
19:25no i'm the rare non-golfer that loves the masters and if you are we'd like to hear from you
19:282485-399797
19:30i'll give you an example of something that i used to make fun of and now i love
19:37through my 20s i was a different person believe it or not and i was not mr winter mr let's
19:45go skiing
19:46guy and i used to watch olympic downhill skiing and go what are we watching we're just watching a
19:51clock that's all we're doing they all look fast it's just a clock pretty accurate then i started
19:56skiing now i can't get enough of the downhill skiing i can't get enough of the x games and all
20:02that stuff and the snow cross and i i love all that stuff those ski the board sports in the
20:09winter
20:10when they're on i'm locked in i'm watching world cup races from austria and italy and because i can't
20:17i can't get enough of it because i started skiing and yet i i made fun of it before and
20:25now
20:25here we have this masters event and you know you it's funny because you mentioned you know your
20:31golf game as you started to play more and more your interest in the masters and maybe it was sparked
20:36by tiger woods that made you play more and more but it was that the combination of tiger crashing the
20:41party changing stodgy old ways the most pretentious place and perhaps you know racist sexist place and
20:48then you um your interest went up because you were playing more i think that goes with everything
20:55i'm not sure like i don't like you love hockey you don't play no but i've tried i think there's
21:01larger i think this might be a larger percentage than other things is is golf golf fans to love the
21:09masters might be you know a greater percentage is made up just by golf people who play but maybe not
21:15you know i was gonna bring an example of like you know i love hgtv i love watching renovation shows
21:23and all that yeah i don't know if i loved any of that until i started thinking about i needed
21:28to
21:29renovate my kitchen back in my first house you know and i started watching stuff then um until then i
21:36don't think i paid a lick of attention to channel 198 on my cable guide yeah but since i went
21:42through that
21:42the first experience i yeah then i started watching it and saying okay let me watch what
21:48other people are doing and what are some of the styles and and and and looks that they're going
21:55for that i can buy into and then when i got my second house and i started thinking all right
22:00i'm
22:00gonna have to renovate this house at some point then i really got into it and now i can't stop
22:04all
22:04right so 2485-399797 is there non-golfers out there that love the masters kang you are a i don't
22:16know you you golf once a summer yeah if that and how do you feel about the masters it's just
22:23another
22:24sporting event that i don't pay particularly much attention to you know i know it's a big deal
22:29obviously for what i do and everything like that but um as far as like because i've heard it this
22:33week this is one of the best weekends of the year and to me it doesn't resonate at all you
22:39know but
22:40maybe that's how some people feel with march madness with the turn of the basketball tournament when
22:45they say this is one of the best weekends of the year and for them it's like not for me
22:48yeah and
22:49that's kind of how i feel about it yeah i i look at kenny and i kenny i i don't
22:54know you
22:55i'm guessing you're not a golfer no i'm not a golfer i'm watching the masters because evan gave
23:00me some gambling picks okay do you do do you like it or is that that's the only thing you're
23:05doing there if i didn't have money on this then i wouldn't be watching it one bit okay all right
23:10fair enough 2485-399797 are you a non-golfer that likes the masters or does that person even
23:17exist do you almost have to be now for you when kang just brought a best week of the year
23:23where does this rank amongst major sporting events between march madness and the super bowl
23:28and the stanley cup finals and college football playoff where's the masters well i mean with
23:34like march madness as you know with me it's it's about michigan state and michigan state's not in
23:39it or if it's been knocked out then my interest level goes down to almost nothing um masters is
23:44always pretty well since 1997 or so it's been pretty high yeah i would guess this is but it's still
23:51not better to me than the stanley cup playoffs or when the pistons are in the playoffs it's about
23:56your teams if your teams are in it then i'm really into those you know same thing uh but like
24:00baseball
24:01playoffs if the tigers aren't in it am i still interested probably the same level as the masters
24:06like i love the world series no matter what okay um you know but the main sports are still going
24:10to
24:10take center stage so super bowl week is still bigger than like super bowl still being super bowl you
24:15don't miss a minute of the super bowl i could miss a whole round of the masters that may not
24:19want to
24:19but i just by happenstance i might just miss it because i got other stuff going on all right two
24:24four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven are you a non-golfer that loves the masters and if
24:28so why and and and then like for skiing was for me is there something you didn't care about at
24:34all
24:34until you started doing it and then you're like oh i'm all in i can watch this now because that's
24:38what
24:38it was for downhill skiing for me didn't ski didn't ski didn't ski late 20s picked up skiing now i
24:43can't
24:43get enough of watching it on television look forward to it every year look forward to the love the
24:48downhill in the olympics watch the x games carson anderson naughty someone
