Australia says it “firmly believes” Lebanon should be included in the temporary ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran. The call comes amid continued violence in Lebanon despite the truce.

00:00Australia firmly believes that Lebanon should be included in the temporary ceasefire deal.
00:05The US and Iran on Tuesday agreed to pause their sprawling conflict for two weeks,
00:10but Israel and the United States both said the pause did not cover Lebanon.
00:18That this is an important step forward.
00:22Of course, it is a fragile piece, but we want it to lead to an agreement.
00:26The Australian government also firmly believes that this has to apply to Lebanon as well.
00:33We want to see peace in this region and it will make a difference.
00:38And I know that many Australians are concerned about the events that are occurring in Lebanon.
00:45This is a matter of not just the impact there, but the impact that it's having right around the world.
00:53So yesterday was an important agreement we want to see it pursued.
01:00But the pressures, of course, as we have said, an end to the conflict,
01:05even if it is a permanent end of the conflict that we want to see,
01:09doesn't mean that the Straits of Hormuz are automatically reopened and that it's back to business as usual.
01:17This will have a long tail.
