Emmanuel Macron welcomes the ceasefire but urges Lebanon be fully included, as Europe backs de-escalation and countries mobilise to secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

00:00French President Emmanuel Macron says the two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran
00:04should also extend to Israel's military actions in Lebanon.
00:08He warns that the situation in southern Lebanon is critical
00:11and says Israel's continued strikes and military presence risk further escalation
00:17and undermine efforts to stabilise the region.
00:22His remarks follow comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,
00:26who said the truce with Iran will not apply to Israel's ongoing operations in Lebanon.
00:32Netanyahu's position comes after Pakistan's Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif
00:36announced that the US, Iran and their allies had agreed to an immediate ceasefire
00:41across all areas including Lebanon.
00:44Despite the differences, Macron however welcomes the ceasefire
00:47and describes it as a positive and necessary step towards reducing tensions in the region.
00:52He also said around 15 countries are mobilising to support the resumption of maritime traffic
00:59through the Strait of Hormuz.
01:01Meanwhile, the European Union also welcomed the agreement,
01:04viewing the two-week ceasefire as an important step towards the escalation.
