Should Cincinnati Bengals Trade First Round Pick in 2026 NFL Draft to Giants for Dexter Lawrence?
Transcript
00:00Would you trade 10 overall straight up for Dexter Lawrence?
00:04Oh, I mean, if I turn off my brain and just go on pure, the purest of instincts, James, my
00:11immediate answer is yes.
00:13It's I'm already editing the press conference and uploading it to YouTube for Dexter Lawrence.
00:18He's at pay court.
00:19You know what I mean?
00:19Like if I if I turn my brain off, why do I need to turn my brain off?
00:24You might ask one might ask.
00:25I don't because turning my brain on reminds me that Max Crosby was going to be traded to the Ravens
00:31for two firsts.
00:32Jalen Waddell went for the first, third and fourth different positions, of course.
00:36But like I think teams will pay for a pro bowl defensive tackle.
00:40So if I turn my brain on, I recognize that this is also a 28 year old player who is
00:46a in a contract standoff.
00:48Like if the Giants are throwing in the towel on those discussions, what makes us think the Bengals will do
00:54any better?
00:54We went through this with Trey Hendrickson, but again, brain off.
00:58It's a top tier defensive tackle who could improve every player on the defensive line by being there.
01:04And that includes every defensive end on the roster.
01:08Everyone gets upgraded.
01:09I'd like to draft that.
01:11I'd rather just acquire that, of course.
01:13So, yes, give me Dexter Lawrence.
01:16So you would trade 10 overall.
01:17Would you trade 10 overall and a fourth?
01:19Let's say they say a one and a four.
01:21Would you do that?
01:22Yeah.
01:23See, wow.
01:24This is so easy for you.
01:27We've like switched roles.
01:29There's not really a scenario where I give up number 10.
01:31Why not?
01:32Because he's a 28 year old that needs a new contract.
01:35That's going to completely like if you trade for Dexter Lawrence, you're probably saying bye to one of the corners.
01:43Maybe both of the corners, knowing the Bengals.
01:46And you're rolling with the young linebackers.
01:49Like I just I see all of the scenarios now to natey boy 1987 point.
01:56If you could get 37 overall.
01:59And so now you have the 37th pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the 41st pick in the 2026 NFL
02:05draft.
02:06And you're trading down 27 spots, which is a huge drop.
02:11But now you can get me on board because that can be a corner.
02:14Now you can get me on board because that other pick, that 41st pick can be a linebacker.
02:19And suddenly the puzzle comes together much easier.
02:24And you're adding a guy like Dexter Lawrence.
02:26So I like where natey boy is thinking.
02:29But to your point, I don't think the Giants are going to give this guy away.
02:33No, he's hard to find.
02:35They're rare.
02:36These game wrecking defensive tackles are rare.
02:38And so for me, I would not give up 10 overall.
02:44Part of that has to do with what we're going to talk about coming up.
02:48You have a real shot at getting a game changing player with the 10th pick.
02:53And some team may overthink it.
02:55And whether it's Caleb Downs or Jeremiah Love, one of these corners, or maybe it's David Bailey.
03:01Maybe somehow David Bailey falls.
03:04Maybe the Bengals are overthinking Reuben Bain and he really isn't in that class.
03:07But I'll mention Reuben Bain.
03:09Sonny Stiles.
03:10There's a lot of guys in this draft that could be there at 10.
03:15Maybe it's not likely, but could be there at 10.
03:18And so completely parting ways with that pick, giving that away to the Giants, and then having to pay Lawrence.
03:25That's a tough sell for me for sure.
