00:06:02Amen.

00:06:25There's no stage that's too big for him.
00:06:28Jordan got a platinum ticket.
00:06:30If he didn't, then people are crazy.
00:06:34So the hopefuls are excited for Jordan.
00:06:37But the voting for our three platinum tickets won't begin until all of the top 30 have performed.
00:06:43One of these platinum tickets will be decided by our highly esteemed panel of industry experts.

00:07:57We only get one platinum ticket to give away, so let's see if we all agree.
00:08:04I don't know how I'm going to vote.
00:08:06Like, everyone's...
00:08:07Me either.
00:08:08One person going home from this group, let alone 10 people, is just like...
00:08:11And it's heartbreaking.
00:08:13It's going to rip my heart on my chest.
00:08:17We have Mary Jo and Chloe duking it out.
00:08:21Who wants to go first?
00:08:23Hollywood week, I had to do singles.
00:08:25That was hard for me.

00:08:34I feel pressure for this cut, because I can't stop here.
00:08:37I've already made it to this point.
00:08:41Hey, buddy.
00:08:42Hey.
00:08:43Hey, mama.
00:08:44I miss you.
00:08:45When I think about Ohana, I think about Kifton.
00:08:49And when I get home, we're going to play with all your trucks.
00:08:52Yeah.
00:08:52I miss him.
00:08:53I just miss him.
00:08:55I wish he could be here to see all of this.
00:08:58I don't know.
00:09:01Hello, Tanoi.
00:09:04Today, I'm going to sing Hello by Adele.
00:09:09I'm dedicating this to my son.
00:09:12Ooh.
00:09:19You got it.
00:09:20You got it.
00:09:22You got it.
00:09:30I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to me to go over everything.
00:09:44I've forgotten how we felt before the world fell at our feet.
00:09:51There's such a difference between us and a million miles.
00:10:04Hello from me.
00:10:09Keep going.
00:10:10Keep going, keep going.
00:10:12Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
00:10:13Keep going.
00:10:13She's got to start controlling her emotions.
00:10:20I'm dedicating this to my son.
00:10:47I'm dedicating this to my son.
00:10:51I'm dedicating this to my son.
00:10:52Really doesn't tear you apart anymore, anymore.
00:11:05Yeah.
00:11:06All right.
00:11:08You're all right.
00:11:09You're all right.
00:11:11You're all right.
00:11:12You're here because we love your voice.
00:11:15It is not about the little things that can go wrong
00:11:19during the performance.
00:11:20It really is how you shove it aside and finish strong.
00:11:25That's it.
00:11:26You got back on that horse and took off real quick.
00:11:29Way to finish strong.
00:11:35I think I just got lost in myself a little bit.
00:11:38You were so good.
00:11:40Baby, congratulations.
00:11:42Baby, you did that comeback, honey.
00:11:45I'm so glad I got to meet y'all.
00:11:47You should be proud of yourself.
00:11:48Yes.
00:11:48You should be proud of yourself.
00:11:49Here we go, Sammy.
00:11:50Let's clear all around.
00:11:51Thank you so much.
00:11:52Performing for all these people that can really make a
00:11:54difference in my life, it's pretty nerve-wracking.
00:11:58Check your phone, too.
00:12:00Yeah, yeah.
00:12:01I'm looking forward to this guy.
00:12:02He can sing.
00:12:04What's up, everybody?
00:12:04My name's Lucas Leon.
00:12:06I'm 18.
00:12:07I'm going to be singing The House That Built Me by Miranda Lambert.
00:12:09My parents are here tonight.
00:12:12And they're who really built me.
00:12:14This one goes out to my family.
00:12:20You know they say you can't go home again.
00:12:28Oh, I just had to come back one last time.
00:12:33Ma'am, I know you don't know me from Adam.
00:12:39But these handprints on the front steps are mine.
00:12:45I thought if I could touch this place, oh, I feel it.
00:12:51This brokenness, the sound that might start healing.
00:12:57You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can.
00:13:03I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am.
00:13:15I thought if I could touch this place, oh, I feel it.
00:13:21This brokenness inside me might start healing.
00:13:26I can't hear it till I come to someone else.
00:13:30I thought that maybe I could find myself.
00:13:39If I could just come in, I swear I'll leave.
00:13:44It won't take nothing but a memory.
00:13:47From the house that built me.
00:13:56From the house that built me.
00:14:02Oh, my God.
00:14:06Thanks for touching the end.
00:14:10Now that was something.
00:14:12That's a true vocalist.
00:14:13I mean, you're so in control of your instrument.
00:14:17It's kind of mind-blowing.
00:14:19Thank you very much.
00:14:20And you have a really beautiful, just soft, sweet spot in your voice
00:14:25that I feel like just draws everybody in.
00:14:28So I would love to hear more of that.
00:14:31Yes, ma'am.
00:14:32There you go.
00:14:33There you go.
00:14:34Amazing. Amazing.
00:14:37That song is just, it's such a sweet song and it means so much.
00:14:41And yeah, it was, it was beautiful.
00:14:45Just knowing that his parents are here, hearing it.
00:14:48This is really special.
00:14:50I know.
00:14:51I can't.
00:14:52All right, folks.
00:14:52Here we go.
00:14:53Take your lockups, please.
00:14:54Stand by.
00:14:57What's up, guys?
00:14:59My name is Keela Richardson.
00:15:00I'm singing A Thousand Years by Christina Perry.
00:15:03Dedicating it to my lovely son.
00:15:05I want to let him know no matter how grown he gets,
00:15:08I'm going to love him forever.
00:15:09And every day we're getting one step closer to where we want to be.
00:15:18Heart beats fast, colors and promises.
00:15:28All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow.
00:15:37One step closer.
00:15:44I have died every day waiting for you.
00:15:49Darling, don't be afraid.
00:15:51I have loved you for a thousand years.
00:15:57Sing it then.
00:15:57I love you for a thousand more.
00:16:01a thousand more out of your dream.
00:16:13I need.
00:16:15You need to be at home or that still.
00:16:19Darling, don't be afraid because I love you for a thousand years.
00:16:26I love you for a thousand more
00:16:32And all alone I believe that I would find you
00:16:38I'd find you wrong too hard to me
00:16:40And I'd love you more than you
00:16:46I'd love you for a thousand more
00:17:06To have the gift of watching you and getting to watch him
00:17:11Like when I'm on stage and my boys are out there
00:17:13I don't know what they're doing
00:17:14And I feel like I just got a glimpse of what they might be doing
00:17:17And it just made my mama heart so happy
00:17:21Your talent is limitless
00:17:25Thank you
00:17:25Thank you, thank you guys
00:17:27Wow
00:17:31Every time I see him lay eyes on him while I'm singing on that stage
00:17:34Man, it gives me an extra boost
00:17:36If God willing, I hope I make it to the top 20
00:17:39This is too hard
00:17:43It's difficult
00:17:44People really stepped it up to, you know, superstar level
00:17:47Everyone is amazing
00:17:49Sometimes before you can watch someone fly
00:17:52You have to let them hit rock bottom
00:18:01Hello everybody
00:18:02My name is Braden Rumfelt
00:18:04I'm 22 years old and I'm from Murphy, North Carolina
00:18:09I was standing by my window on a cold and cloudy day
00:18:17When I was a baby, my dad would sit musical instruments at the bottom of our cribs
00:18:24And he felt like, you know, that was going to give us, like, these abilities
00:18:27Right
00:18:28Which it might have, who knows
00:18:29Will the circle be unbroken
00:18:34Growing up in a family where it's cool to sing, you know, that's got me to this point
00:18:38If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be here, much less going to Hawaii
00:18:44For you to get here is, um, it's powerful
00:18:49You let your light shine before the world
00:18:53In the sky, Lord, in the sky
00:18:57In the sky, Lord, in the sky
00:19:05Some people live for the fortune
00:19:12Some people live just for the fame
00:19:16Okay
00:19:17Some people think that the physical things define
00:19:24Much within
00:19:28And I've been there before
00:19:33And that life's so poor
00:19:35So full
00:19:37Of the superficial
00:19:40And some people want it all
00:19:44But I don't want nothing at all
00:19:47If it ain't you, baby
00:19:50If I ain't got you, baby
00:19:53Some people walk down the road
00:19:56Some just want everything
00:19:59But everything needs nothing
00:20:02If I ain't got you, yeah
00:20:36Oh, oh, oh, oh
00:20:37But everything kills nothing if I ain't got you.
00:20:50All right, all right, all right.
00:20:53I'm at it.
00:20:54I'm at it.
00:21:01Kid's singing.
00:21:02I feel like I just had the biggest smile on my face
00:21:06the whole time.
00:21:07Your voice is just velvety and big.
00:21:11You've got a lot of power in there and in all the right places.
00:21:16It's good to see you all again.
00:21:17Good.
00:21:18Good.
00:21:18Good.
00:21:18Good.
00:21:20Good.
00:21:21You know, I like seeing this family and the connection is
00:21:25exact.
00:21:25That's exactly what I wanted to see was that.
00:21:27I thought he had really great control and power to his voice,
00:21:31but he hit a couple of rough notes.
00:21:34Here we go.
00:21:37Performing in front of the editor of Rolling Stone.
00:21:39Jeez Louise.
00:21:41There's so many other eyes on us who get a say in our future.
00:21:44It's a little frightening.
00:21:46Come on, Bearfoot.
00:21:50I'm Hannah Harper from Southeast Missouri, and I'm going to
00:21:52sing a country classic that my grandpa used to sing to honor
00:21:55his musical legacy.
00:21:56I'm really excited about the Ohana Round to have the chance to
00:21:59honor my grandpa.
00:22:00He was a patriarch.
00:22:01So many branches of talented people that came from him.
00:22:05He played music until the day he died.
00:22:08Good music that we can all relate to as a family, and we all
00:22:11play together at it, and everybody likes it.
00:22:14Bluegrass and gospel, that's what keeps us together.
00:22:18The legacy that he left was such a strong impression on my life.
00:22:21I want to do the same for my kids.
00:22:24I wish my grandpa was here to hear it.
00:22:25My grandma's going to be here, and she's going to be so thrilled,
00:22:27because it was his favorite song.
00:22:30I know your life on earth was troubled, and only you could know the pain.
00:22:46You weren't afraid to face the devil, you were no stranger to the rain.
00:23:03Go rest high on that mountain, son, your work on earth is done.
00:23:21Come to heaven, come to heaven, come to heaven, come to heaven.
00:23:30Love for the Father and the Son.
00:23:39Go rest high on that mountain, son, your work on earth is done.
00:23:51The miracle on earth is done
00:23:56Go to heaven
00:24:00A shovel
00:24:04Love for the Father
00:24:11And the Son
00:24:28There are so many parallels with your voice and Dolly and just it's just so beautifully country
00:24:36But just remember that key that you got to at the end and really live in that space because your
00:24:40voice really opened up there
00:24:42You've got the goods and that was your voice is so beautiful to me
00:24:46Appreciate it, thank you
00:24:47Got that straight, authentic mountain voice, boy
00:24:53You can definitely see that she was missing something because she usually plays the guitar
00:24:57But I don't know, I think she really delivered it and she felt like she was herself
00:25:03I mean, obviously everybody can sing because they're here
00:25:06But there's gonna only be a handful that can make it to that star quality, you know
00:25:10Say that again, what did you just, no, what did you just say? It was important
00:25:14I said, would you go for the best singer or would you go for someone who you know would sell
00:25:20tickets, has a look and has a boast
00:25:21These are the questions we have to ask ourselves
00:25:31Hi guys, my name is Genevieve Hayward, today I will be singing your song by Elton John
00:25:38I picked this song today because the last time that my father was in Hawaii, he was on leave from
00:25:44Vietnam
00:25:45Give it up for my dad, thank you for your service, Don
00:25:49If I could give you the world, I would
00:25:52But for right now, I'm just gonna start with the song
00:25:54Aww
00:25:59It's a little bit funny
00:26:02This feeling inside
00:26:07I'm not one of those who can
00:26:10Easily hide
00:26:14I don't have much money but
00:26:17Boy, if I did
00:26:21I'd buy a big house where
00:26:25We both could live
00:26:28If I were the sculptor
00:26:35But then again, no
00:26:38Or a man
00:26:39Who makes potions in a traveling shot
00:26:46I love that choice
00:26:48Wow
00:26:49That was so unexpected
00:26:50Best I can do, my gift is my song, and this one's for you.
00:27:03And you can tell everybody that this is your song.
00:27:10It may be quite simple, but now that it's done.
00:27:17I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind,
00:27:21that I put down in love.
00:27:27Sing it!
00:27:29Wow, wow, wow.
00:27:31How wonderful life is while you're in the world.
00:27:45What a boy.
00:27:47Identity is hard when you sing such an iconic song like Elton's,
00:27:51but for you to hang on and keep in control of that is amazing.
00:27:57Way to come out here and box, all right?
00:28:01Thank you, guys.
00:28:07I loved her.
00:28:08Listen, I always go for the rocker girls, and she nailed it.
00:28:13I really liked her energy.
00:28:14I loved her grit.
00:28:16I honestly am not an emotional person, but I thought about my mom and dad
00:28:21and just how they've literally been there for me since day one.
00:28:24Well, it's okay.
00:28:28Those parents are having to be extra parental today.
00:28:31Oh, my God.
00:28:33Hi, everyone.
00:28:34My name is Abayami Lewis, and I will be singing Rise Up by Andrea Day.
00:28:38I'm doing this song for my mother.
00:28:41She is a single parent, and life is not easy being a single parent.
00:28:45She has taught me to rise up against all things that I'm dealing with,
00:28:49and it inspires me.
00:28:51I know I can rise up.
00:28:53We will rise.
00:28:55We will rise.
00:28:57We will rise.
00:28:59Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:29:05We'll rise.
00:29:07Yeah, we'll rise up.
00:29:11We'll rise like the dead.
00:29:14Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:29:16Rise of the praise.
00:29:17Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:29:20And I'll do it in our damn time again.
00:29:26For you.
00:29:30For you.
00:29:32For you.
00:29:33For you.
00:29:34For you.
00:29:35For you.
00:29:37Come on, sing it.
00:29:38For you, we will rise.
00:29:57Guzi!
00:30:00She's frickin' 16 and she's like a Disney star, you know what I mean?
00:30:05Yeah.
00:30:05And for a singer to have like that big belt and a beautiful head voice like that is so rare.
00:30:20My family has always been by my side throughout my entire music journey, so it's really exciting to do this
00:30:27Ohana rap.
00:30:37My parents have always sacrificed so much time and everything for this and it means so much to me that
00:30:43they're here right now and doing all of this.
00:30:45It really means a lot.
00:30:45If the tide takes California, I'm so glad I got to know ya.
00:30:55And if the sky falls from heaven above, oh I know I had the best time falling into love.
00:31:09And for a while, you were all mine.
00:31:14I spent a lifetime giving you my heart.
00:31:18And I swear that I'll be yours forever.
00:31:21I'll be yours forever.
00:31:23I'll be yours forever.
00:31:26I'll be yours forever.
00:31:27I'll be yours forever.
00:31:27I'll be yours forever.
00:31:27I'll be yours forever.
00:31:29Till forever falls apart.
00:31:35How's it going?
00:31:37How's it going?
00:31:40Thank you so much.
00:31:43Breath of fresh air.
00:31:47How many are we getting rid of tonight?
00:31:49So there's 30 and we have to get down to 20.
00:31:53Oh, 10.
00:31:53Oh, God.
00:31:54Yeah.
00:31:57I'm worried.
00:31:57There's a lot of talented people that are in this group.
00:32:00Let's please give it up for Brian Thomas.
00:32:06I can't point a finger at anyone I don't think is going to make it to the top 20, which
00:32:10makes it a lot.
00:32:10It makes it so scary.
00:32:12This next song goes out to all the people that we've had to leave behind in order to pursue our
00:32:17dreams.
00:32:18For this round, I'll be singing Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.
00:32:21This song is kind of about change.
00:32:23I just recently moved to South Florida in the pursuit of love.
00:32:27I hardly see anyone now.
00:32:29I kind of lost my family.
00:32:31It's just one of those seasons of life.
00:32:34Hey, bud.
00:32:35Hey, I'm super proud of you.
00:32:37I know how you've been dreaming about this your whole life, having you here.
00:32:43And I just get to spend the time.
00:32:50I miss you.
00:32:52I miss you.
00:32:54I miss being home.
00:32:56I love you with all my heart.
00:32:57You too.
00:33:19I miss you.
00:33:24And older, even children get older
00:33:29And I'm getting older too
00:33:37So take my love, take it down
00:33:45Climb the mountain and turn around
00:33:50And if you see my reflection in a snow-colored hell
00:34:04Maybe the Lancelot will bring it down
00:34:10Oh, the Lancelot brought me down
00:34:26Thank you, guys.
00:34:27Wow. Wow.
00:34:31Bryant, well, before you sing, I know talking to your family
00:34:36and telling them how much you love them is emotional.
00:34:38We still got to remember I got a song to deliver
00:34:42and I got to make sure I'm knocking this thing out
00:34:44start to finish.
00:34:45Now, you're one of my favorite voices, but it got a little screamy a little bit
00:34:50So just curb down some of that over-raspy, gravelly stuff.
00:34:55Thank you so much.
00:34:58I was trying my hardest to get through this song
00:35:00and that just wasn't what the judges were looking for this round.
00:35:03He was trying real hard. He doesn't need to.
00:35:06He did a really good job.
00:35:08I'm glad my dad got to see it because it might have been my last performance of the idol.
00:35:18Welcome back to Idol's Ohana Round, where Ray is hoping to make it to America's vote.
00:35:23I was looking at the camera and I was like, this is so giving Love Island confessional.
00:35:28Yes.
00:35:29Hi, everyone. My name is Ray. I'm going to be singing I'll Be There by the Jackson Five.
00:35:35Yes.
00:35:36I wanted to dedicate this song to my sister, my heart, my soul, everything.
00:35:41My sister, Jamie, is one of the most important people in my life.
00:35:45She's the only person that really understands me and what I'm going through.
00:35:51I just love you so much and this is for you.
00:35:54My promise to you that I'll always be there for you.
00:35:56So sweet.
00:35:58A sister's love.
00:35:59Ain't nothing like a sister's love now.
00:36:01You and I must make a pact.
00:36:05We must bring salvation back Where there is love I'll be there
00:36:23Oh, my God.
00:36:26I'll return my hand to you Come on, girl.
00:36:31I have faith in all you do You better sing the song, then.
00:36:39Where there is love I'll be there
00:36:48Oh, my God I'll be there to comfort you In a world of dreams around you
00:36:58I'm so glad I found you, baby What is going on?
00:37:02I'll be there with the love so strong I'll be a stranger You know I'll keep falling on
00:37:15I'll be there There you go There you go
00:37:20I'll be there And I'll be there
00:37:44I'll be there
00:37:47There you go.
00:37:48Sing it, baby.
00:37:49I think America's going to be there.
00:37:51Come on.
00:37:51I think so.
00:37:53You always just command the stage so perfectly,
00:37:57such confidence.
00:37:58And I tell you, you are one of our exceptional voices
00:38:03that we have.
00:38:04It's just really awesome to watch you
00:38:07be able to tell your sister how much you love her.
00:38:10And you are a serious contender.
00:38:12That was a great performance.
00:38:15Thank you, James.
00:38:17I love my sister so much.
00:38:18I'm just seeing her just gave me all the nerves went away.
00:38:22She came out, handbrakes off, no stops, just went in.
00:38:26And I loved it.
00:38:26Love it.
00:38:27Loved it.
00:38:31Thank you guys so much.
00:38:33I'm Jake Thistle from New Jersey.
00:38:35And I'm playing a song called Sleep On Me, which is an original.
00:38:38It was really important for me to play an original
00:38:39during this round because my parents and my family,
00:38:41they've always been really supportive of me writing songs.
00:38:45When I was really young, a family friend played guitar.
00:38:48And he gave me one because I was a toddler and it made noise.
00:38:52I started gigging when I was nine years old.
00:38:54And my parents drove me to every gig until I could get my license.
00:38:57It meant a lot to have that foundation.
00:38:59They're not here physically with me in Hawaii, but my parents do know that I'm
00:39:02dedicating this song to them.
00:39:03It's going to be really special.
00:39:05It's going to be really special.
00:39:06These hours aren't meant for conversation time.
00:39:10Well, I'm confident.
00:39:11Yep.
00:39:12It's too soon for tomorrow, too late for tonight.
00:39:16That's why I'm shaking and pacing like I forgot my life.
00:39:24And I wrote the show and I've lived the life.
00:39:29The sky looks so vacant on these kind of nights.
00:39:38It's gone when you're placing your cautious hand in mine.
00:39:50Forever maintaining the illusion that we are going to be all right.
00:40:00So sleep on me, sleep on me, one day I'm going to get it right.
00:40:06Sleep on me, sleep on, I'm going to make it up to you kind of guy.
00:40:12Trying to be, trying to be someone who you like.
00:40:18Oh, sleep on me, sleep on, I'm a stranger by the side.
00:40:25Hey.
00:40:26Wow.
00:40:28Thank you so much.
00:40:29I appreciate it.
00:40:30I felt like I was at his show.
00:40:31I love it.
00:40:32Yeah.
00:40:32All right, Jake.
00:40:33So you know you took a big chance.
00:40:36Keep those vocals just as you started out at the beginning strong.
00:40:39Keep it all the way through.
00:40:42But as a songwriter to a songwriter, you did well.
00:40:45Thank you so much.
00:40:46Really kind of you guys.
00:40:51You could hear him in a studio and like.
00:40:54Lock him right there.
00:40:56It's like watching young Bruce Springsteen.
00:40:59There you go.
00:40:59Paul Simon.
00:41:00There you go.
00:41:01Dylan.
00:41:01I don't know, he gave the artist.
00:41:03He's an artist.
00:41:04Sleep on me.
00:41:06Sleep on me.
00:41:07Sleep on me.
00:41:09Sleep on me.
00:41:09Sleep on me.
00:41:09I like it.
00:41:10I like it.
00:41:22I'm Brooks.
00:41:23I'm from Bel Air, Maryland.
00:41:25I'm going to be singing Everywhere Everything.
00:41:27Because family is everywhere.
00:41:29And they mean everything.
00:41:31Aw.
00:41:32Yeah.
00:41:37I love this song.
00:41:38kę winning...
00:41:41Three
00:41:43two bodily riddled with scars from our pretense, intertwining a car to be by sea,
00:41:53stare at the driving screen now.
00:42:16This is one of the most unique voices I've ever heard in my life.
00:42:27Till the seas rose and the buildings came crashing.
00:42:37Everywhere, everything, wanna love you till we're food for the worms to eat, till our fingers decompose.
00:42:48Keep my hands in yours.
00:42:54Try slowly, know every route in this county.
00:43:01Maybe that ain't such a bad thing, tell you where not to speak.
00:43:13Everywhere, everything, wanna love you till we're food for the worms to eat, till our fingers decompose.
00:43:25Keep my hands in yours.
00:43:32Keep my hands in yours.
00:43:46Every time you open your mouth and sing, I want more.
00:43:50I feel like we've seen you already like kind of stepping in, getting a little more confidence in yourself.
00:43:56Just keep leaning into that and it's so fun to watch and it's so fun to listen to.
00:44:00Thank you so much.
00:44:07Like, thanks, thanks, bye.
00:44:11Carly!
00:44:13Like...
00:44:14I'm obsessed with her.
00:44:15So unassuming.
00:44:17And I watched this crowd over here, they weren't expecting that to come out.
00:44:19What kind of alien, unexpected, crazy voice was that?
00:44:24Whee!
00:44:25Where'd that voice come from?
00:44:26I've never heard a tone like that.
00:44:32Welcome back.
00:44:34As our Ohana round continues, Lionel checks in on the families.
00:44:38I love watching this boy.
00:44:40I don't...
00:44:41It's just agonizing his parents.
00:44:43Who might be struggling with tonight's decision to award one platinum ticket.
00:44:48I don't know what y'all are going through, but hang in there, y'all.
00:44:51I know.
00:44:52They're all doing so incredible.
00:44:54Yeah.
00:44:55Everyone's doing amazing.
00:45:10You better sing it!
00:45:12You better sing it!
00:45:13Thank you so much, thank you.
00:45:14Good boy.
00:45:14Love you.
00:45:15Well, we are keeping tabs on everybody on that piece of paper.
00:45:18Yeah.
00:45:18We're gonna vote based on our notes.
00:45:22We're very serious.
00:45:23I'll tell ya, it's very difficult.
00:45:25And the second platinum ticket decision belongs to the industry experts.
00:45:29The truth is, everybody deserves a shot.
00:45:32The talent is so high that everyone literally deserves this.
00:45:35But who are we gonna give it to?
00:45:37It ain't about how fast I get there.
00:45:41It ain't about what's waiting on the other side.
00:45:51It ain't about what's waiting on the other side.
00:46:00The third platinum ticket will be chosen by the idols themselves.
00:46:05I just see exceptional talent and I just don't know how I'm gonna narrow that down at all.
00:46:11I don't, I don't know.
00:46:13When everything's made to people, I just want you to know who I am.
00:46:22I just want you to know who I am.
00:46:27I just want you to know who I am.
00:46:50It feels insane to be in the top 30.
00:46:52There's a lot of pressure knowing that 10 people are gonna go home.
00:46:55One, two.
00:46:57Yeah, sounds good.
00:46:58My dad for this round suggested photograph by Ed Sheeran.
00:47:01Ed Sheeran has always been one of my favorite singers.
00:47:03He had a stutter when he was younger and he's been super open about it.
00:47:07It's crazy. It's like the perfect song.
00:47:08I relate to it in so many ways.
00:47:10I'm dedicating this song to my grandpa.
00:47:14He passed away six years ago but he was a photographer and he spent so much of his life capturing
00:47:20the most important moments of other people's lives.
00:47:25I just felt like I could really be myself around him and we could laugh with each other.
00:47:33Even though he can't be here taking pictures of me, I know he's watching right now.
00:47:39Looking back at photos of him reminds me of the love that my whole family shared with him.
00:47:43I'm gonna be thinking about him and just reminding the world how great he was.
00:47:56Loving can hurt.
00:48:00Loving can hurt sometimes.
00:48:05It is the only thing that I know.
00:48:12It is the only thing that makes us feel alive.
00:48:23We keep this love in a photograph.
00:48:29We make these memories for ourselves.
00:48:32When our eyes are never closing, hearts are never broken, times forever frozen.
00:48:40So you can keep me inside the pocket of your ripped jeans.
00:48:49Holding me closer till our eyes meet.
00:48:54You won't ever be alone.
00:48:59Wait for me to come home.
00:49:04Wait for me to come home.
00:49:07Wait for me to come home.
00:49:20When I'm away, I will remember how you kissed me.
00:49:29Under the lamppost back on 6th Street.
00:49:34Hearing you whisper through the fold.
00:49:39Wait for me to come home.
00:49:54I mean, it's honest and it's real and it's believable and it's just beautiful.
00:50:02Thank you so much.
00:50:03Thank you guys.
00:50:07Dude.
00:50:08Insane.
00:50:10Insane vocal.
00:50:11I love listening to them talk about it.
00:50:14He was so consistent, start to finish.
00:50:15He went viral already and I can see why, you know?
00:50:19You can tell when somebody trembled, the way he's standing up here.
00:50:22I think that matters a lot.
00:50:23It now comes down to who cuts through.
00:50:26Yeah.
00:50:34Hello, hello, everyone.
00:50:35My name is Sheldon Riley and I'm from Australia.
00:50:38I just want to quickly say how beautiful it is to me to see all your family here for this
00:50:43God-given talent over this side.
00:50:45I know what the sacrifice is to be here.
00:50:48Unfortunately, I don't have family here with me today.
00:50:51Um, I actually haven't had family with me in a long time on this music journey of mine.
00:50:57Um, sorry.
00:50:59We got us!
00:50:59We got us!
00:51:02Sorry, sorry.
00:51:04Um, sometimes in life when you are not handed the right cards and put in the right family
00:51:11with the right people, um, you have to build your own family and your own home.
00:51:16And that's what Ohana is to me.
00:51:18So, uh, I'm really grateful to be here and thank you for having me.
00:51:22And, uh, thank you for being my little family here with me.
00:51:24So, yeah.
00:51:30I'm singing To Build A Home by Patrick Watson.
00:51:33It's about building that home for yourself, that place where you don't feel alone.
00:51:38I think a big reason why I've come to American Idol is that I've found that for myself.
00:51:42You know, I've built my own Ohana, so it feels like the perfect song to celebrate everyone
00:51:46that to make that happen.
00:51:47There is a house built out of stone.
00:51:54Oh, this is a place where I, I don't feel alone.
00:52:03Oh, this is a place where I, where I feel at home.
00:52:21Oh, this is a place where I, where I feel at home.
00:52:48Oh, this is a place where I feel right.
00:52:49Ooh, yeah, ooh, and I've been a home for you, for me, yeah, and I heard it's time to leave
00:53:19Yeah, yeah, yeah
00:53:25Oh, yeah, yeah
00:53:35I built a house
00:53:39No
00:53:40I built a home
00:53:56so sorry you good yeah I'm good you have so much talent and range and power in your vocals
00:54:08I feel like your brain just gets in the way I feel like you're kind of building up some
00:54:15walls in front of us every time you sing but you don't need to do that because you're enough
00:54:29it's just gonna be a mind game I have to kind of work through I don't know the industry's been
00:54:34really nasty to me I've had to put walls up for a long time um I think that what is
00:54:42going to come
00:54:42out of this experience for him he'll actually find himself yeah Carrie that was good you better
00:54:49preach that was so good that was that was deep
00:55:02my name is Julian Kalel I'm 19 years old from El Paso Texas and I wrote this song called Surrender
00:55:09I auditioned with this song for my very very first audition my family was there feels like
00:55:14it was only yesterday that I was in that room with those judges when I wrote the song Surrender
00:55:19I was really really down so I went to my dad and he told me that anxiety the fear whatever's
00:55:27out of
00:55:27your control let it stay out of your control it's not worth your fear he was the one that said
00:55:33surrender
00:55:34surrender those feelings not only were we able to help him reach lighter place it actually turned
00:55:42into a song to see him arrive on this stage this is everything that we've prayed for I just want
00:55:56to
00:55:57dedicate this song to you Papa thank you for always being by my side through my absolute worst and my
00:56:02best and I love you
00:56:04love you Michael
00:56:25there's a hole in my chest knock me down lay me to rest
00:56:35drown my thoughts with jerosene bring my fears to my soul
00:56:45tired of fighting tired of keeping up inside now I'm a couple ties in memories of turning back so I
00:56:55surrender
00:57:16I'll be gone without a sound when my heart fails me and I'm not around
00:57:22holding on past I used to crawl
00:57:25I'll be gone without a sound when my heart fails me and I'm not around
00:57:27something stops me guess I found the stories and it's all clear now the only feeling bigger than love is
00:57:36lost
00:57:36so I told you
00:57:40if it's all I waste
00:57:43it's all we will fly
00:57:44the pain is in it's hands
00:57:47and you know I'm tired as ever
00:57:50oh, I'm tired as ever
00:57:52I'm tired as ever
00:57:55oh, I'm tired as ever
00:57:58oh, I surrender
00:58:00oh, I surrender
00:58:04oh, I surrender
00:58:10That's an artist.
00:58:11That is an artist.
00:58:16You're so solid.
00:58:18I mean, I've heard you do that song before.
00:58:21And the fact that you've written that song,
00:58:23just even some of the changes in the chord progression
00:58:26are so mature and far beyond your age.
00:58:31And you just got the star magic,
00:58:33one of my favorite performances of the night.
00:58:35Love you. Thank you so much.
00:58:38To get the opportunity to even play that song
00:58:41on a stage like this,
00:58:42I'm just glad that I never gave up.
00:58:44It's come full circle.
00:58:45For him to share it with his sister
00:58:47just made it all the more special.
00:58:49It just makes me so, so thankful
00:58:52to be loved by my parents and my family,
00:58:54and I'm just so grateful.
00:59:02Just beeping. Hold on one second.
00:59:04Takes me back to the construction days.
00:59:08Back it up.
00:59:09My name's Cutter Bradley.
00:59:11I'm from Florence, Alabama.
00:59:12Florence, Alabama. I know where you're from.
00:59:14I used to be a welder and a machinist,
00:59:16so I went to college for that.
00:59:18I've worked many jobs,
00:59:21from carpentry, welding, to construction.
00:59:23But music, ever since I did music,
00:59:26something was just poking at me like,
00:59:27I gotta see how far I can take it.
00:59:29I'll be singing some Jason Aldean, Amarillo Sky.
00:59:32And the reason I picked that song
00:59:34is because it's a song about hard work.
00:59:36Dedicating it to my parents right here,
00:59:37because they showed me what hard work is,
00:59:39and it's rubbed off on me,
00:59:41because I'm hard working for my dreams right now.
00:59:43I think so.
00:59:44Dang, that's right.
00:59:48Yay, this is a lot of tempo I was hoping for.
00:59:51I love it.
00:59:51It gets up before the dawn,
00:59:55packs of lunch and a thermos full of coffee.
01:00:00It's another day in the dusty haze,
01:00:04burning rays are wearing down his body.
01:00:09The taste is worth the price of gold,
01:00:12it's the cheapest thing he's ever sold.
01:00:16Come on now.
01:00:17He's still holding on.
01:00:20Just takes a tractor another round.
01:00:24Pulls a plow across the ground.
01:00:29Sends up another prayer.
01:00:32He says, Lord, I never complain,
01:00:34I never ask why.
01:00:36Please don't let my dreams run dry.
01:00:41Underneath, underneath this Amarillo sky.
01:00:50He says, you dress on the road.
01:00:54Move the dog.
01:00:57Out of this zona clear.
01:00:58Looked outside,
01:00:59you dress on the road.
01:01:02He thankfully gave me that little dress,
01:01:06and youться on him.
01:01:08It's there, too.
01:01:11You can't see him if the woman was wearing down the road.
01:01:16I'm not scared.
01:01:20There you go.
01:01:25Great song choice for you.
01:01:27And I tell you, rockin' overalls than Hawaii.
01:01:30I tell you what, that's pretty amazing.
01:01:33You really impressed me with where you went vocally.
01:01:37I enjoyed it, great job.
01:01:38Thank you so much.
01:01:39Thank y'all.
01:01:41Taking the part playing it, slinging it around,
01:01:43and then going out to the audience,
01:01:45I was like, hey, I see you, I see you.
01:01:48Somebody crushing down there?
01:01:50Yes.
01:01:52Carrie, Carrie's crushing too.
01:01:53I said no.
01:01:54I see where you're coming from,
01:01:57and you are correct, ma'am.
01:02:00With the added pressure of not only the judges,
01:02:02but also the industry experts deciding their fate,
01:02:06the weight of the moment is getting to some.
01:02:09The industry experts are gonna be voting for us,
01:02:11which is scary.
01:02:13She was missing was a little bit of confidence.
01:02:15You can tell she's one of the younger performers.
01:02:17She doesn't have the experience.
01:02:19There'll absolutely be more pressure.
01:02:21I thought she was a superstar.
01:02:22I agree.
01:02:25Oh!
01:02:26That's still wrong!
01:02:27It's super scary to know that they're gonna be watching
01:02:29and judging.
01:02:30It looked like she was a little bored.
01:02:33No!
01:02:33What are we talking about?
01:02:35Oh, my goodness.
01:02:36That was storytelling.
01:02:38I wish she would have looked over here,
01:02:40but I thought she brought the power to the song.
01:02:43That was beautiful.
01:02:44Okay.
01:02:44The way she said it sounds better than what you said.
01:02:49Definitely gotta bring my A game.
01:02:51I gotta, you know...
01:02:52I gotta do something.
01:02:54You got it, Mike!
01:02:57Oh!
01:02:58If you got a chance, take it.
01:03:03Take it while you got a chance.
01:03:07You gotta breathe, chase it.
01:03:10Cause a dream won't chase you back.
01:03:13You're gonna love somebody
01:03:16Hold on as long and strong
01:03:18As close as you can
01:03:20Until you can
01:03:23He's just a baby.
01:03:25It just felt like it was...
01:03:27Something was a little off.
01:03:28Maybe it wasn't his best performance.
01:03:30I was seeing, like, uh...
01:03:33Country Bieber with the...
01:03:34You know, the little hair flip.
01:03:37Yes!
01:03:37Yes!
01:03:39That's exactly right!
01:03:41Shirley, the co-editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone,
01:03:44is gonna be here.
01:03:45I am, like, freaking out!
01:03:50Hi, everyone.
01:03:51My name is Kendall.
01:03:52And today I'm actually singing a song that I wrote.
01:03:55It's called Woman of Me.
01:03:57I wrote it for my mom.
01:03:58I can't look at her too long or I will immediately cry.
01:04:01My mom is my favorite person in the whole entire world.
01:04:04She has been a backbone and just a rock in my life.
01:04:11But growing up, we had a tendency to clash.
01:04:15I was a pretty rebellious kid.
01:04:17Like, I started hanging around with the wrong people.
01:04:19Dropped out of school.
01:04:20Moved all the way to the other side of the country in L.A.
01:04:23I needed to go and explore the world and learn and fall flat on my face.
01:04:28And I'm sure that, like...
01:04:31I'm sure that really broke her heart, you know?
01:04:37Whoa.
01:04:39I think that sometimes before you can watch someone fly,
01:04:43you have to let them hit rock bottom.
01:04:46And it was the hardest thing that I've ever done.
01:04:48She was 18 years old and she needed to go.
01:04:52She needed to figure it out.
01:04:55Having a mother that loved me enough to let me go
01:04:59but be standing there with open arms when I ran back
01:05:06is a gratitude I can't fully even express.
01:05:09And so I tried with this song.
01:05:11And I just, I really want to honor her with this.
01:05:14I really want her to understand just how special she is to me.
01:05:26I'm the daughter of a God-fearing woman.
01:05:31Countless nights she probably laid there awake.
01:05:35To her surprise I did everything I shouldn't wanna work.
01:05:41Both hearts would break.
01:05:46From time to time there's a look in her eyes.
01:05:52She didn't think she did it right.
01:05:55Oh, God.
01:05:56She was the light when there was no light I could see.
01:06:01Gave me a reason to fight.
01:06:06She wiped my eyes when the world turned its back on me.
01:06:12Taught me all my wrong from rights.
01:06:17I could have fed all of my thanks in a bottle.
01:06:22It'd break before drifting to a sea.
01:06:26But then also to break.
01:06:34It made the taste.
01:06:36Was never really a bitch.
01:06:36Not really, but I can't.
01:06:38hit all of my thanks in a bottle.
01:06:54It'd break before drift into your sea
01:06:58She was a girl before she was a woman
01:07:04Now she's made a woman
01:07:07She's made a woman
01:07:10She's made a woman
01:07:13Of me
01:07:18Thank you
01:07:20That songwriting is incredible
01:07:24Oh, Kendall
01:07:26I just want to hear more of your songs
01:07:29You're such a great storyteller
01:07:31And you have the voice to back it all up
01:07:35So if this was truly a moment meant for you right now
01:07:40Thank you so much
01:07:41Thank you
01:07:47Perfect, no complaint
01:07:48That's my American Idol
01:07:50I'm so proud of her
01:07:53I couldn't even look at my mom
01:07:54Like I knew I would cry
01:07:56But she was right there on my heart
01:07:58And I just like felt her
01:07:59And that was such a special moment
01:08:01I wish I could do it again and again and again
01:08:16I'll be singing All I Want by Codaline
01:08:18Dedicated to my great-grandmother
01:08:21Her name was Mama Rice to me
01:08:22But to everybody else she was Nancy
01:08:24The song that he picked
01:08:25It means a lot to the family
01:08:28She was a huge supporter of me
01:08:30And this is one of the songs
01:08:32This is one of the songs
01:08:33She loved for me to sing to her
01:08:35I sung it in hospice
01:08:37Unfortunately before she passed away
01:08:39So hopefully y'all like it
01:08:43All right, all right
01:08:44Wow, yeah
01:08:45Yeah
01:08:45All right
01:08:45All I want was nothing more
01:08:56To hear you knocking at my door
01:09:03Cause if I could see your face once more
01:09:08I could die a happy man, I'm sure
01:09:14But if you love me, why'd you leave me?
01:09:24Take my body, take my body
01:09:31And all I want is, and all I need is
01:09:40To find somebody, I'll find somebody
01:09:48Like you
01:09:54If you love me, why'd you leave me?
01:10:02Take my body, take my body
01:10:10And all I want is, and all I need is
01:10:18To find somebody, I'll find somebody
01:10:27Like you
01:10:37I love you boy!
01:10:40I love you boy!
01:10:45I love you boy!
01:10:56You brought us in when it was meant to feel intense
01:11:01And then on the soaring notes
01:11:03You kind of took us to this whole other place
01:11:05Where we could just kind of feel that swell
01:11:08That's a gift!
01:11:09Great job!
01:11:10Great job!
01:11:11Thank you so much!
01:11:12I realized this voice could go that high for that long
01:11:16Oh my gosh!
01:11:17To be able to take a song that is usually taken in a completely different direction and bring
01:11:22It here was magic
01:11:24So proud of it
01:11:26I can't talk right now, I can't even breathe
01:11:29That was amazing
01:11:32To make it to the top 30 it feels like incredible
01:11:38You are meant to be here
01:11:40Thank you
01:11:40I'm just enjoying it and soaking it in every which way
01:11:43You looking for me?
01:11:44For the old home around, I picked Stand Up by Cynthia Erivo
01:11:47I will dedicate this song today to my lovely mother
01:11:51That's in the audience over here to the side
01:11:53My mom, she has always stood up for me
01:11:57She has always paved the way for me, been there every step of the way
01:12:01I had Micaiah when I was at college, single mom
01:12:06And so there were times where I didn't know how I was going to do some things
01:12:12We would come home from school and then we would go to my grandparents' house and eat dinner
01:12:16I didn't know then as a child that it was solely because we didn't have food
01:12:22Everybody hits rough spots but I hit a rough one
01:12:25It was a really dark time
01:12:27For her to allow me to solely be a child
01:12:31And have no worries
01:12:33She never let us see her suffer
01:12:39When my mom hears me perform this song
01:12:42I hope she feels that I will always be here for her
01:12:47Through every step of the way the same way she was there for me
01:12:49And that one day this all will pay off
01:12:52I've been walking
01:12:54I've been walking
01:12:56With my face turned to the sun
01:13:03It can be
01:13:04Oh I got eyes in the back of my head
01:13:09Just in case I have to run
01:13:13It's about to get dirty, it's about to get dirty
01:13:17Watch the clouds roll back
01:13:19Watch the clouds roll back
01:13:19And the stars fill the night
01:13:22That's when I wanna stand up
01:13:26Take my people with me
01:13:29Take my people with me
01:13:56Together we are going
01:14:10To a brand new home
01:14:18Far across the river
01:14:21And you hear freedom calling
01:14:24Calling me
01:14:26Calling me
01:14:26Calling me
01:14:26To an instant
01:14:27We're gonna keep on keeping on
01:14:30I can feel it in my soul
01:14:34Oh
01:14:36I can feel it in my soul
01:14:43I can feel it in my soul
01:14:45Oh
01:14:45I can feel it in my soul
01:14:49I can feel it in my soul
01:14:49Woohoo!
01:14:51See the sound town?
01:14:53Woohoo!
01:14:54You better see it, baby!
01:14:56Woohoo!
01:14:57Woohoo!
01:14:59Micaiah came here to kill!
01:15:02It was so emotional, it showed everybody what you can do.
01:15:07It had southern moments, it had southern gospel moments,
01:15:10it had uplifting moments, and really way to step out there
01:15:14and show us a whole other level of what you can do.
01:15:16Thank you so much, thank you.
01:15:23You guys just left it all out there on the stage,
01:15:26but I feel really good and hopefully I get a platinum ticket tonight.
01:15:30What a way to close the shop!
01:15:31She took me to church.
01:15:33Honey!
01:15:34She took me to church, I loved every second of it.
01:15:44Coming up...
01:15:45This is crazy.
01:15:47Who will survive to sing for your vote?
01:15:49Find out after the break.
01:15:52I really don't want to go home.
01:15:54Welcome back to American Idol's brand new Ohana Round.
01:15:58All 30 of our Idol hopefuls have performed,
01:16:00and now it's time to whittle them down to the top 20
01:16:03who get the chance to sing for America's vote.
01:16:06I am nervous because everyone was impressive.
01:16:09I know you see a lot of voices out there.
01:16:12I don't know, I don't know.
01:16:12But first, there are three platinum tickets up for grabs,
01:16:16and each one secures one of those spots.
01:16:20But for the first time ever, it's not the judges making the final call.
01:16:25The first will be chosen by the industry tastemaker.
01:16:29What's up, y'all?
01:16:30The second by the Ohana, the family members.
01:16:33A lot of powerhouses.
01:16:34And the third platinum ticket by their peers, our Idol hopefuls.
01:16:39This is crazy.
01:16:40Now, the Ohana cannot vote for their own family members,
01:16:44and the Idols cannot vote for themselves.
01:16:48It's really about whose performance moved them the most.
01:16:53It is a gut-wrenching decision to have to make.
01:16:57Whatever hit me in the heart, that's who I want.
01:16:59It's difficult.
01:17:00I mean, I think just people that really stepped it up to,
01:17:03you know, superstar level.
01:17:05As someone who's watched the show for so many seasons,
01:17:08who's written about it, who's covered it,
01:17:10being on this side is, it's really stressful.
01:17:13Sing a baby.
01:17:14This is literally the hardest thing that I've ever done in my life,
01:17:17to have someone's career in your hands.
01:17:20But we're gonna make someone's night tonight.
01:17:23There we go.
01:17:25That's it.
01:17:25Which is also something to look forward to.
01:17:27We're making history up here, y'all.
01:17:30Okay.
01:17:31This is an unprecedented and first look at which contestants
01:17:36have the ability to move other people.
01:17:40So, let's reveal the results for our platinum ticket winners.
01:17:46First, as chosen by their peers,
01:17:48the idol platinum ticket goes to...
01:17:55Jordan.
01:17:56Congratulations, Jordan.
01:18:01You're incredible.
01:18:02I just had chills the whole time.
01:18:05Take a look at that, Jordan.
01:18:07That is yours.
01:18:08Congratulations.
01:18:10Good job.
01:18:11Way to go.
01:18:15All right.
01:18:17The next platinum ticket, chosen by Ohana, the family members, goes to...
01:18:25Brooks.
01:18:26Congratulations, Brooks.
01:18:29I have not heard a voice like this ever.
01:18:32You see the look on his face.
01:18:34I see the look on his face.
01:18:35I see the look.
01:18:35Wow.
01:18:36You have earned this, my friend Brooks.
01:18:38Congratulations.
01:18:39Good job.
01:18:41What was that look on your face when we called your name?
01:18:43Surprised.
01:18:44Surprised.
01:18:46And finally, the industry platinum ticket goes to...
01:18:56Kindle.
01:19:02You've got artists written all over you, and I'm loving every minute of it.
01:19:05Congratulations, Kindle.
01:19:07That is yours right there.
01:19:09Let's hear it one more time for the platinum ticket winners.
01:19:18With the three platinum ticket spots safely secured, the judges must now choose the remaining 17 hopefuls...
01:19:26It's not gonna be easy.
01:19:27...to complete our top 20.
01:19:29Who makes it through to America's vote?
01:19:32This is the worst part.
01:19:35It's not that we're eliminated people who can't sing.
01:19:38Right.
01:19:39No, they're here.
01:19:39We're now eliminated because they might fall in the same category.
01:19:43Like her?
01:19:44Yep.
01:19:44Like her.
