00:00louisiana considering banning profits and then they took a look at the amount of
00:04money that they made as a state and said wait a second here maybe we're not doing as well as
00:09we
00:10are it's kind of a sad state of affairs if that's really the case here with this but louisiana for
00:15the time being is going to allow profits to continue i hate that it's all about money but
00:20sam isn't everything all about money of course especially in sports betting and especially in
00:26state laws greg you have a the the senator from louisiana katrina jackson andrews uh filed a bill
00:32to ban prop bets to ban player props to ban micro bets specifically you know worrying that these
00:38kind of bets are frankly you know lower margin for most average americans and they you know give
00:44away to same game parlays and basically lose people a lot of money and get people addicted to gambling
00:48but she withdrew this bill as soon as a fiscal note was produced that said the state would have lost
00:53about 30 million dollars in tax revenue annually if it banned these markets and that's because
00:58they're pretty much the most popular thing that sports books have without them sports books would
01:03lose you know maybe 50 of their annual revenue so obviously trickles down to the states you mentioned
01:09it's kind of unfortunate to see it's all about money but that's kind of what she came out and said
01:13this week when she said you know i didn't really consider the financial repercussions but i'm not done
01:18with proposing some legislation regulating the space notably what wasn't mentioned is something
01:25we've talked about a bunch too is the integrity issues in sports you know major league baseball
01:29changed their micro betting rules a bit after the cleveland guardians investigations came to light
01:34there's been a lot of talk about banning prop bets outright in other sports college sports
01:40specifically that can allow people to manipulate these outcomes to kind of you know rig money and you know
01:45win for some illicit betting ring or something like that so that wasn't brought up here but i think
01:50it's important to note in the larger conversation of overall prop betting reform but the first thing
01:56i think first and foremost is it would wipe out about half of the money that sports books make
02:00and obviously in turn a lot of the taxes that the states make so we'll see what she comes up
02:04with
02:04next year but for now prop betting still alive in louisiana and i imagine a lot of other states will
02:09kind of look to this as well as hey maybe we shouldn't you know go out with an all right
02:12ban quite yet
02:13and kind of you know take our time and propose something more more pointed and specific that
02:18can really tackle the problem
