00:00Joining us now is Trita Parsi out of Washington as well,
00:03Executive Vice President at the Quincy Institute.
00:05Trita, good morning from the Asia-Pacific.
00:07I want to get straight to it, and thank you, by the way,
00:08for being so patient with us right now.
00:10You make this very important point that these negotiations,
00:14the basis for these discussions will be the 10-point plan
00:18coming through from Iran and not the 15-point plan coming out of the U.S.
00:22Why is that relevant?
00:25Well, it's relevant because the 15-point plan was completely unworkable,
00:30and the 10-point plans that the Iranians have put forward
00:32obviously is closer to Iran's interest than what they want to see come out of this.
00:37So the fact that Trump is accepting that the negotiations are going to be based
00:40on Iran's proposal rather than the U.S.'s proposal
00:44tells us a lot about what actually has happened here,
00:47which is that Trump has essentially recognized this was an unwinnable war.
00:50He had to take an exit, but the exit had to be based on parameters that the Iranians had defined.
00:57Now, of course, it doesn't mean that a deal is secure,
00:59nor does it mean that Trump will not, in those negotiations,
01:02push back on a lot of those different points.
01:04But the basis, the framework, is what the Iranians have put forward.
01:11And is it worth asking whether the U.S. had, up to this point, achieved its objectives?
01:18In other words, is that incentive to not return to bombing Iran,
01:23is that still around, going into these talks?
01:26Look, I think one of the critical things will now have changed
01:29in the dynamic between the U.S. and Iran in these upcoming talks
01:33is that the potency of American military threats
01:37in the context of U.S.-Iran negotiations are now essentially lost.
01:42Trump can continue to issue them, but they won't carry much value
01:45because, essentially, we have tried war with Iran, and it failed.
01:49And Trump is very likely not going to try it again
01:52because it doesn't matter how he does it.
01:55The Iranians will still have that ability to squeeze the global economy,
01:58and it would be suicide for Trump to try this again.
02:00So, the upcoming talks are going to have a very different dynamic
02:04that is going to be based on an actual compromise between the two sides
02:07rather than the United States being able to dictate the terms.
02:10Everyone scores.
02:10Thanks, Wendy.
02:10You have been listening.
02:10Give me a feedback of the comment
02:10And I just want to tell you that
