Four individuals, including two lecturers from a northern Malaysian private university, have been remanded for four days over the alleged solicitation and receipt of about RM5mil in bribes to secure research projects.

00:12the solicitation and receipt of approximately five million ringgit in bribes.
00:18The remand, issued by the Magistrates' Court, is valid until April 11, following a request
00:25from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission .
00:28The three men and one woman appeared in court at 10.05am and were escorted out at 11.45am.
00:36Burnama reported that the arrests took place a day earlier at the M.A.C.C.
00:41PERAC office between 2pm and 5pm.
00:44The case also involves an oil company officer and an engineering company director in their
00:50forties.
00:51Sources said the bribes were allegedly paid to help certain companies secure research projects
00:56involving misappropriation of funds from the private institution's research initiatives.
01:02Following the arrests, M.A.C.C. froze 70 bank accounts, holding 8.5 million ringgit and seized
01:09seven vehicles.
01:11M.A.C.C. Intelligence Division Senior Director Datuk Saiful Ezraal Arefin confirmed the arrests,
01:16noting that the case is being investigated under the M.A.C.C. Act 2009.
