00:02Dozens of protesters gathered outside here at Brisbane's Arrest Court in solidarity with 33-year-old Liam Parry.
00:09He is the first person to be charged under Queensland's new hate speech laws.
00:14Mr Parry was arrested earlier last month after he allegedly chanted from the river to the sea at a pro
00:21-Palestine march outside State Parliament.
00:23The new offence which also bans the phrase globalise the Intifada carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment.
00:31These laws were the Queensland Government's response to the Bondi terror attacks in December.
00:36These phrases have been widely adopted by pro-Palestine protesters.
00:40This morning we heard from some of those supporters who say these new laws are unconstitutional.
00:45So we're going to keep protesting, we're going to keep talking about Gaza and the oppression of the Palestinians.
00:52It shouldn't be a crime to speak out for the Palestinians.
00:56There was also a 70-year-old protester who was told to move on by police after displaying a poster
01:02which read
01:02from the sea to the river similar to that of the banned phrase.
01:06For now the matter has been briefly adjourned and Mr Parry will appear in court later in April.
