00:00Well, what police will allege in court today is that that 31-year-old man from Peakhurst
00:07in Sydney's south made comments that clearly and unequivocally aligned themselves with
00:15neo-Nazi ideology.
00:18Now, these particular comments took place in Moor Park in Sydney's inner east during
00:24the March for Australia.
00:25What we understand from New South Wales police is that these alleged comments were made
00:30at what can best be described as an open microphone event at Moor Park.
00:36Around 2,000 people attended the March for Australia rally yesterday that snaked its
00:42way through Sydney's inner east.
00:45Now, this 31-year-old man was taken into police custody at around 3pm yesterday afternoon
00:53in Surrey Hills in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
00:56He's now been formally charged with inciting hatred based on race as well as causing fear.
01:04What we understand as part of this charge is that those comments effectively created an
01:11atmosphere of hatred within that larger group.
01:14And that really is the basis of these charges.
01:18Now, what the ABC has also found is that a number of attendees at yesterday's rallies were
01:24members of the National Socialist Network, which is a well-known neo-Nazi organisation
01:29here in Australia.
01:30Now, that particular organisation have made clear in the last few weeks, particularly as
01:35we anticipate these proposed new hate speech laws passing through the federal parliament,
01:41is that that particular organisation is effectively set to disband, given that they say it would
01:48be nigh impossible for them to run their organisation if these laws are passed.
01:54Now, we've also heard from Bec Freedom, who was the organiser of yesterday's March for
01:59Australia here in Sydney.
02:01What she says is that a number of people who have identified themselves as neo-Nazis offered
02:06to effectively marshal the event as volunteers and do things like crowd work.
02:12She said that she readily accepted their invitation to help, but they were effectively marched away
02:18from the scene by New South Wales police.
02:20Now, this 31-year-old man is expected to face court later today.
