00:00This Dominican diner needs to be on your New York City devour list.
00:03El Castillo de Agua in the Lower East Side has been going strong since 1986.
00:08We went all out starting with their Cuban sandwich.
00:10Fresh Cuban bread gets mayo, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and their roast pork,
00:15then pressed and sliced to look like this.
00:19Off to an amazing start.
00:21They told us we had to try their secret menu Dominican sandwich
00:24with pink sauce, roast pork, crispy fried cheese, sweet plantains, and pickled onions,
00:28which also gets pressed down and sliced to look like this.
00:32Cheers, guys.
00:34Man, am I glad they recommended this.
00:36That's phenomenal.
00:37And it's mofongo time.
00:39Plantains get chopped and thrown in the fryer.
00:42First up, their pork mofongo.
00:43Roast pork, garlic, and fried plantains go into a pot,
00:48then get aggressively mashed with a mallet,
00:52shaped into a perfect mound,
00:56plated, topped with some chicharron,
01:00served with a salad and a side of stewed pork.
01:02Pour that stew on top, mix it all together,
01:06and devour.
01:08I was seriously blown away by how good this was.
01:11For the next mofongo,
01:13fried plantains, crispy chicken, and garlic
01:15get mashed together the same way as before,
01:17then beautifully formed,
01:21plated,
01:22topped with more crispy chicken, salad,
01:24and their savory chicken sauce.
01:26How could we ever say no to this?
01:28It just melts in your mouth.
01:30You need this one.
01:31We were on a serious mofongo kick
01:33and ordered one more,
01:34their shrimp mofongo.
01:35Fried plantains and garlic get mashed,
01:37shaped into a mound,
01:39then plated upside down,
01:41and stuffed with their creamy garlic shrimp.
01:44On goes all of that rich buttery sauce.
01:47Come on, look at that.
01:48Oh my god, this was good.
01:51That shrimp is outstanding.
01:53We couldn't leave without trying their stewed oxtail,
01:56which gets covered in their hearty oxtail sauce
01:58and topped with parsley.
01:59I was so excited for this.
02:01Cheers.
02:02Yeah, that's the stuff.
02:04Wow.
02:05Look at how easily this falls right off.
02:07This could be the...
02:08Best oxtail I've ever had in my life.
02:10And for the finale,
02:11their sirloin steak,
02:12which gets their special seasoning
02:14and lots of garlic butter,
02:15then slid into the broiler
02:17until it looks like this.
02:19It gets plated.
02:21They pour on all of that juicy goodness,
02:24their mushroom sauce,
02:26and herbs.
02:27It gets served with fried plantains
02:29and minced garlic.
02:30The result,
02:31a crispy, tender, saucy steak
02:33full of flavor.
02:34Just when I thought I couldn't get any better,
02:36this steak comes out.
