00:00The 2K Sports Pre-Game Show.
00:04Greetings, everybody. Welcome to 2K Sports. I'm Ernie Johnson, and it is my pleasure to be with Shaquille O'Neal
00:09and Kenny the Jet Smith.
00:11Tonight, it'll be the New Orleans Pelicans up against the Los Angeles Lakers.
00:16And for Los Angeles, they're looking to come out strong and make their mark early.
00:21They have to look at this game as a great opportunity to do just that.
00:26Fellas, it is quite clear that Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the league with his contract
00:31done and his stardom.
00:35Should New Orleans be feeling the pressure to go deep in the playoff, Shaq?
00:39Well, I don't know what team he's going to be with, but any team with Anthony Davis should be, at
00:44very least, a playoff team, Ernie.
00:46Winning will keep him happy and up the chances he stays in New Orleans for the long haul, but this
00:50guy is woo-wee.
00:52Woo-wee.
00:53The real deal.
00:54I mean, he came from the depths of the bottom of the sea to get to where he is because
00:59the guy was 6'1 as a junior in high school, man.
01:03And now he's getting the job done down there in New Orleans.
01:07Built the team around him.
01:08You still got to add a couple of competent team members around him for him to really flourish, but this
01:14guy is incredible.
01:16Is it just me, or are you trying to grow your eyebrow all the way across?
01:21It looks like you're well on the way to having a unibrow.
01:23I would love to get a unibrow because I think now, to be a great player, you have to have
01:28one brow.
01:31Shaq?
01:31No comment, Ernie.
01:34Appreciate that.
01:35See you later, folks.
01:50Coming to you live on 2K Sports, it's time for NBA action.
01:55This is Kevin Harlan alongside Clark Kellogg and Greg Anthony.
01:59The New Orleans Pelicans preparing to defend home court in this Western Conference battle.
02:04Hold on.
02:05Hold on.
02:08Hold on.
02:09Hold on.
02:10Hold on.
02:10Let's get over now.
02:12Hold on.
02:12Smell it.
02:13Know me, they gon' follow.
02:15Oh, oh, oh.
02:15Yeah, yeah.
02:17I feel like she want a lot of life.
02:19Hey.
02:20Really must be serious.
02:22Hold on.
02:23Scare the eyes to face your fears.
02:25Hold on.
02:26Hold on.
02:29Hold on.
02:37Here we go.
02:41It'll be Los Angeles off the tip.
02:43And now the Lakers starting group.
02:45Colby and Randall, the forward duo.
02:47Jordan Clarkson is out there with Russell.
02:49And it's Hibbert in at the 5.
02:52Now, here is Russell.
02:54To the paint.
02:56Comes out of the gate empty.
02:58He's 0 for 1.
02:59That is some tough defense there against one of the better finishers in our game.
03:04Hey, guys.
03:05The Lakers last season were just a completely different team after Colby's injury.
03:09Not so much in results, but just in how they played on the floor.
03:14They actually fared better without Colby than most thought they would.
03:18Shot clock at 3.
03:19Top of the key.
03:21Rebound by Colby.
03:23That's one he knows he should have drank.
03:27Now the dish to Russell.
03:32Hibbert kicks to Bryant.
03:37And it's Quincy Bondexter with the foul.
03:40That's his first foul.
03:42Man, that's...
03:43It's close, but, you know, didn't get on balance quick enough.
03:46Yeah, and as quick as players are at this level, in this day and age, I mean, you've got to
03:52be perfect in your anticipation to draw the charge.
03:55And about a minute gone here in the first quarter.
03:57Picked by Randle.
04:02Evans against Russell.
04:04Down to five on the shot clock.
04:07A three ball.
04:10Eric Gordon with the rebound.
04:13And for the Lakers without Colby last season, it was really a stark difference in styles of play and quality.
04:18No single person Clark stepped in to carry their offense.
04:22It took a group effort.
04:23Well, you know, it was almost April, Kevin, before somebody surpassed Colby in field goal attempts on the team.
04:28It'll be interesting to see how they build the offense this year.
04:32And so the New Orleans Pelicans get the first points of the ball game.
04:36From 12 feet out.
04:37There's the bucket good.
04:39How about that move?
04:41Is this guy special or what?
04:43Just love watching him operate inside.
04:49We're just about two minutes into the first quarter.
04:53Feeds it to Bondexter.
04:57Got a piece of it.
04:59Tries to keep it alive.
05:01Well, one of his issues is he's a player that just does not excel at fighting through contact on his
05:07way to the rim.
05:08The drive by Russell.
05:13Now here's Colby.
05:15He's covered closely.
05:17Back to Russell.
05:19On the wing, Colby.
05:21Good, and it's Russell picking up the assist.
05:24Colby getting it done.
05:25Just a gorgeous shot that time.
05:27Here's Evans.
05:32And here on the first, approaching three minutes played.
05:35Gordon dishes to Bondexter.
05:37New Orleans moving the ball around.
05:39Davis sets a screen.
05:41And that's Evans penetrating.
05:43And Davis can't get it to go.
05:45The Lakers in the lead.
05:48And Anthony Davis growing up in the rough south side of Chicago because of the violence.
05:54His father didn't let him venture to the playground.
05:56Instead, he built a basketball court in the backyard.
05:59This young man has come a long way.
06:02Now here's Evans.
06:03Following the miss by Colby Bryant.
06:08Evans outside.
06:12And so he draws the foul on the shot.
06:15A trip to the line to shoot two.
06:17Hey guys, Tyreek Evans is so versatile.
06:20Great instinct.
06:21Well-developed skill set.
06:22He can beat you every way you turn.
06:27And back to Tyreek Evans.
06:28He's a big, muscular guy for a wing.
06:31That seven-foot wingspan.
06:33That arm span we've all admired and read so much about.
06:36Too strong for off-guards.
06:38Too quick for small forwards.
06:40He's kind of got a ubiquitous position.
06:42He does.
06:43And Kevin, you know, it's funny.
06:44A lot of people have tried to place him in a box in terms of position.
06:48Instead of just saying he's a basketball player.
06:50The guy's strong.
06:51He's got tremendous physical attributes.
06:53Combine that with the ball handling and his confidence.
06:56And it gives you an interesting mix.
06:58I mean, he's one of the more unique, multifaceted guys we have in our league.
07:03Last season was possibly the best of Tyreek Evans' career.
07:07At least since his unbelievable rookie campaign.
07:10Yeah, and Kevin, a lot of that has to do with his injury history.
07:14I mean, last year he played in 79 games.
07:16That's the most of his career.
07:18So you could say it was probably the healthiest season he's had since he was a rookie.
07:23And here is Los Angeles now.
07:25The Pelicans make their last shot.
07:27And Norris Cole is going to pick up the foul.
07:31Norris Cole.
07:33Cunningham is checked in for Tyreek Evans.
07:36Checking in for your Pelicans.
07:40Dante Cunningham.
07:50And here in the first quarter with a little over three and a half minutes played.
07:54And Bryant kicks to Bass.
07:55Stolen by Anderson.
08:00Here's Cole.
08:05Agensa in the post.
08:07Passes there.
08:08And that one is good from Agensa.
08:10You know, back to Tyreek Evans last year, he had a big jump in three-point percentage.
08:14He was also up in assist rebounds.
08:16Really did a lot of good things.
08:18The only bad news, he was also up in turnover.
08:22That's not the type of opportunity he fails to convert very often.
08:28Anderson is screen on Young.
08:31Holiday goes in.
08:32Can't convert after the good screen.
08:35Hey, they got the shot they wanted off of that pick, but it just doesn't fall.
08:39Yeah, it didn't go down, but you'll take that shot every single time, Greg.
08:43That's good offense.
08:44Now here's Williams.
08:45He hasn't scored yet.
08:47That I'm sure will change.
08:49It's tipped.
08:53Here's Cole.
09:01He dishes it to Anderson.
09:05The kick out to Holiday.
09:08Another miss by Holiday.
09:10Williams.
09:12Can't get it to go.
09:16One quarter in the books, and it's been a close one so far.
09:19New Orleans on top.
09:21They lead by three.
09:22From New Orleans, back in a moment.
09:42And speaking with Roy Hibbert before the game, he helped illuminate their defensive philosophy.
09:51We want to guard the paint, and some of that has to do with myself being able to patrol the
09:57paint as much as possible.
09:58We want long, contested twos.
10:00They guard the three-point line, bring them to me, I'll either hit him with a straight-up block the
10:04shot or alter the shot.
10:05So, contested twos are the worst shots in the NBA.
10:10Now, when you have that sort of focus like Hibbert, that kind of confidence on display on a nightly basis,
10:16Greg, you are a game changer, and he does change games every night.
10:21You know, and we saw his skill set and execution develop very rapidly over the course of just a couple
10:28years.
10:28He worked extremely hard to become the force he is on the interior in this game.
10:36Neither team able to build much of a lead up to this point as we start the second quarter.
10:41And before we move on, what do you guys think about what we've seen so far from New Orleans?
10:46Defense paying huge dividends for them through the first.
10:50Excellent hustle, and you know the coach has to be pleased with that effort at the defensive end.
10:54So, on the floor for the Lakers to start this second quarter, we've got Roy Hibbert, Julius Randle is out
11:00there with Nick Young, then it's Russell, and it's Clarkson in at the two-guard spot.
11:05And guys, it looked like Nick Young had finally put it all together.
11:10I mean, he had a huge campaign two years ago, signs the new four-year deal, then last year, disaster
11:17strikes.
11:17I mean, he provided very little to the team outside of shooting the basketball.
11:22And even with that, he dropped to a career-worst 37% from the field.
11:27Tyreek Evans has checked in for Norris Cole.
11:32And so Young nails them both.
11:35Well, Greg, getting back to Young, it's tough to completely judge him on last year's numbers because he was fighting
11:40through knee injuries, ankle injuries, all kinds of things.
11:43Parker only played 42 games.
11:45Yeah, but when he's right, he can light it up.
11:47I mean, he's a go-to scorer, but he just never got right last season.
11:51The Lakers trail.
11:56Out to the wing.
11:58Randle passes to Clarkson.
12:04Unloads from 13.
12:06They get the rebound.
12:08And a foul called on the shot.
12:10Got him on the way up that time, so he'll shoot two right here.
12:14And you know what?
12:15You allow a guy to get right to the rim like that, that's your only option.
12:19Yeah, exactly.
12:20I mean, free throws are always better than a layup, so I'd agree with you there, Greg.
12:30All right, now.
12:31Take a break.
12:32Take a break.
12:33Two shots.
12:43And it's tied up with that one.
12:45Last year, the Pelicans, Greg, pushed their way into the postseason.
12:48It was a neck and neck battle for that number eight spot, as you recall, with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
12:54And how about the excitement down the stretch?
12:56And they were able to edge out the Thunder and Russell Westbrook on that just point binge down the stretch
13:03there.
13:03And what a final day that was.
13:05A big, huge win over the Spurs.
13:07Let them get into the postseason for the first time under the Pelican moniker.
13:12And as you said, I mean, New Orleans made the playoffs for the first time under the name Pelicans.
13:17Unfortunately for them, they ran into the Warriors in the first round and were promptly swept away.
13:24Now, here's Gordon looking for his first basket still in this one.
13:28Looked like he was channeling Bob Cousy right there.
13:30Since when does he take guys off the dribble like that?
13:33And thinking back to the Pelicans playoffs from last year, let a 20 point lead slip away in that fourth
13:40quarter game three.
13:41But they played better than a sweep and got valuable postseason experience for that young roster.
14:26All right, the Warriors, your Pelicans dance team, loud hear it!
14:43And here's Los Angeles.
14:45They trail by one.
14:50Russell high post.
14:51He's against Evans.
14:53Russell kicks to Hibbert.
14:55Shoots from eight.
14:56Breaks a big high bounce and goes in.
14:59Hibbert's got four points in the quarter.
15:01This has been a thriller.
15:03You cannot say enough about the way these two teams have competed.
15:08All indications, Greg, are that this game is going down to the wire.
15:12I mean, I'd be surprised, actually shocked if it ended any other way.
15:17You know, as the season wore on, guys, the Pelicans became a matchup that nobody wanted to see.
15:23Very tough against teams and had very few weaknesses, too.
15:26a little bit now, we're still seeingols on the fields.
16:11Just about a minute and a half has gone by here in the second
16:15For the Pelicans last season
16:17They were a tough matchup
16:18The defense was one thing
16:19But their mentality
16:20The way they thought through the game was fantastic
16:22And Kevin you look at their record
16:24Against other playoff teams
16:26And it stacks up well
16:27I mean they made the playoffs by never thinking
16:29They were at a disadvantage on the floor
16:32And having that kind of confidence in a young team
16:34That only really speaks for positives moving forward
16:37Yeah but you have to love that tough interior defense
16:41And Greg that's exactly what he gives you
16:43I mean he's constantly making his presence felt around the rim
16:47That's good
16:48And the Pelicans lead by one
16:51And guys let's get your take on the hustle stats for the Pelicans
16:55And it's been about their defense
16:57They're playing with a frenetic pace
16:59Putting a lot of pressure on the ball handlers
17:01And forcing turnovers
17:02You know another factor in their offense so far
17:05Has been their ability to convert and score off turnovers
17:08Gordon with it
17:09He's picked up by Russell
17:11And that's Evans penetrating
17:13And he lays it straight in
17:14And now it's a three point New Orleans lead
17:17Just a late reaction there
17:19From the defense
17:20And he is always going to finish that one
17:22Randall no good
17:24For New Orleans
17:25They've gone three of seven shooting the ball
17:27Here in the second quarter
17:31Babbitt kicks to Evans
17:33Davis setting the pick for Evans
17:34Kicks it out to Gordon
17:37Yes and a nice assist from Evans
17:40Gordon's got four points this quarter
17:42Not sure how he gets that pass off
17:45I thought for sure he was going to pull the trigger
17:48Really unfortunate for Eric Gordon
17:50That an assortment of injuries
17:52That really derailed his career
17:53A few years back he looked like he'd be an absolute star
17:56Once at 22 points a game scored
17:59It was down to 13 a game last season
18:01An excellent display of passing out there fellas
18:04I mean eight of their last ten points
18:06Have been assisted on
18:07And they just keep finding the open man
18:10Now here's Clarkson
18:12Looking for his first basket still in this
18:14That's good
18:15And I like the fact that he really was unfazed
18:18By that scoreless first quarter
18:19And now you can see him getting into a rhythm
18:26Evans against Russell
18:30Evans kicks to Gordon
18:36Shot clock at five
18:39Offensive rebound
18:40Ashik
18:40Nice work on the board
18:42He's paying off at the best
18:44Ashik's got the lead up to seven now for the Pelicans
18:47They really want to find that igniter here
18:49Yeah that's right
18:50Kevin the offense has basically been running in place
18:53They gotta get going
18:57Evans dishes to Gordon
19:02And here's Evans
19:03Five points in the game
19:08Left side Davis
19:10Takes the 13 footer
19:11That's in
19:12And he found his range with that one
19:14Now one for two
19:15You know his ability is matched only by his energy guys
19:18I mean he's usually in the middle of everything for his team
19:22Yep it goes in and the Pelican lead is cut down now
19:25To just five on the basket from Roy Hibbert
19:27Here's Gordon
19:28Roy Hibbert picking up that last basket
19:31Gordon the pass to Bama
19:39He feeds it to Evans
19:44New Orleans
19:45New Orleans needs to get off a shot
19:47And it's Gordon missing
19:51Here's Russell
19:53No good on that last second attempt there
19:56And we're through the first half of basketball here
19:58And what's been a good one
20:00Pelicans lead by five
20:01And don't go away
20:03After the break
20:03We'll see you right back here for the start of the third quarter
20:07And now
20:08The 2K Sports Halftime Show
20:16Hello again everybody
20:17I'm Ernie Johnson
20:18Joined by Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny the Jet Smith
20:21And it's the NBA Halftime Show on 2K Sports
20:23A competitive matchup for New Orleans in the first quarter
20:27The biggest lead of the quarter was only three points
20:30As they traded baskets back and forth
20:32Kenny your thoughts
20:33How the Pelicans are playing
20:35They were clearly a better shooting team
20:37Their play calling and execution were on point
20:40It wasn't a dominant performance
20:42But you did get an idea of how efficient they could be
20:46They'll need to continue that kind of shooting
20:48If they want to pull away in the second half
20:50Shaq, what was your takeaway on the Lakers?
20:54Well, they need to be more aggressive
20:55They got to take the ball inside
20:56See, scoring inside the NBA is like running in football
20:59You're taking control of the game physically
21:02Sure, you need good perimeter play
21:04And spacing on the floor
21:05But hey, you got to get it into the big man, Ernie
21:09All right, that is going to wrap up our halftime report
21:12As it's just about time for the start of the third quarter
21:27And it's been a back and forth game so far
21:30With no ground given through the first
21:31Third quarter starting here now
21:33You have to like what we're seeing from Roy Hibbert
21:35Just a dominating performance in the post by him so far
21:39Just tearing them to shreds when he gets it inside
21:43Yeah, and getting it to him is the only hard part, fellas
21:45I mean, once he has it, he's automatic
21:48Forget about it, he can do work down there
21:57We'll see you next time for the third quarter
21:58And we'll be right back on that
22:03We'll see you next time for the third quarter
23:00Well, somehow the Lakers managed to avoid ending up in last place in the West last season.
23:05Still, it's a far, far cry from the Lakers teams of the past.
23:09Only 21 wins for them on the season.
23:11All fueled up and ready to go.
23:14Let's reset the lineups courtesy of Gatorade for the second half of basketball.
23:18Setting the floor now for the Pelicans.
23:20Gordon and Pondexter are the wingmen.
23:22The shot-blocking pair of Davis and Oshik inside.
23:25And it's Evans in at the one spot.
23:28And that one's good.
23:29Russell.
23:31And for the Lakers against the rest of the West last year, they only went 9-43, Greg, in their
23:37own conference matches.
23:39Yeah, and never a good sign when less than half of your wins come against your own conference.
23:44The Lakers know they have a long road ahead of them to get back to their years of Western Conference
23:50dominance.
23:51I'll tell you what.
23:52He earned his money on that foul.
23:53Yeah, if you go to foul, then make sure that you don't give a chance for the and one.
23:57New Orleans shooting their third and fourth free-throw shots of the night.
24:00Taking two shots.
24:07All right now, gentlemen.
24:09Two shots.
24:10Move shots.
24:22That's good from Evans.
24:24Big part of the problem for the Lakers last year was consistency.
24:28Clark, with all their injuries, they had to shuffle the lineup, it seemed, every game.
24:32Well, you know what happened with all that shuffling was they got to see a lot of different players and
24:36evaluate them for the future.
24:38I think it helped in regards to what they're going to do this offseason.
24:46And both free throws, good for Tyreek Evans.
24:49And for the Lakers, obviously the big get for them was landing the number two overall pick in the draft.
24:56Getting a quality big to add to a roster with Colby is huge.
25:00It made them a player, again, I believe, in three ages.
25:04And the Lakers with some changes.
25:06Bass comes in for Julius Randle.
25:08And Lewis Williams subbed in for Jordan Clarkson.
25:15And for those who are turning in, we're about a minute into the second half.
25:21Evans kicks to Davis.
25:26Now Pondexter.
25:28Outside, Gordon.
25:31Fires for three.
25:33It's hauled in by Los Angeles.
25:36You know, when it comes to the Lakers, they're always going to be players in free agency if they have
25:40money.
25:40It's still a marquee franchise in the NBA.
25:43One of the top two or three, no doubt.
25:45When you have high draft picks and money to spend, people want to play for you.
25:49And not to mention, California is an attractive destination.
25:52Down to five on the shot clock.
25:54Williams with a clean look.
25:56Offline with his three.
25:58Pelicans leading by four.
26:01Evans with it.
26:02He's picked up by Russell.
26:05And it's Gordon missing.
26:07And out of the gates here in this second half, they have not started well.
26:110 of 3.
26:14Williams kicks to Bryant.
26:16Good.
26:16And it's Williams who picks up the assist.
26:19That's seven points for Kobe Bryant.
26:21That's the kind of D that you're not going to find success with, guys.
26:25They've got to get a hand in the face.
26:27Well, taking a look at Lou Williams last year, kind of a typical year for him.
26:31A lot of scoring on bad efficiency.
26:33Yeah, and for Lou, he did make it over the 40% field goal mark, but just barely.
26:37Just barely.
26:38You're right.
26:39You're right.
26:42You're right.
26:54You're right.
26:55You're right.
26:55You're right.
27:22You're right.
27:23Doris Burke has an update for Doris.
27:25Yes, during that break, Coach Byron Scott had some words for his team.
27:29He was intent on running the offense through Kobe.
27:33Coach is looking for him to take on a lot of responsibility when they've got the ball,
27:37to be a leader at the offensive end.
27:39Perhaps the rest of the second half will look different after those adjustments, Kevin.
27:43Thanks, Doris.
27:45Here's Cole.
27:46He's been patient so far.
27:48Nothing yet on the scoreboard.
27:50There's the screen.
27:55Williams against Holiday.
27:57Over in the corner, Cole.
28:00And again, New Orleans has no up.
28:02L.A.'s gone 2-3 when they ventured outside the arc in the third quarter.
28:06And so he ends a trip to the line.
28:08Officials saw the contact, and he'll shoot two.
28:11Well, this is really one of the nicer buildings in the NBA, right downtown.
28:16Clark, this home of the Pelicans, across from the Superdome.
28:18Kevin, you're always worried about how close we are to Bourbon Street when we come here, man.
28:23But yeah, this was a fortress for the Pelicans last season, as they won some big games here, for sure.
28:28Take a break.
28:28Take a break.
28:30Two shots.
28:41No good on the free throw.
28:44And you talk about the big wins here for the Pelicans last year.
28:48How about they beat the Warriors late in the year, which was huge to get into the postseason,
28:52as well as the Spurs on that final day to fight their way into that A spot.
29:03That one drops.
29:04He ties it up.
29:06And you know, the Pelicans ended 28-13 here last season.
29:10A six-win improvement for them from the season before.
29:13They can be a scary team when this place is jumping.
29:17And it's sent back by Russell.
29:23Williams dishes to Sacre for the lead.
29:28Bass with the screen.
29:29It's Williams with the drive.
29:31And there's the feed to Bass.
29:34There's a screen.
29:36Off the pick.
29:38Kobe can't hit.
29:39I tell you what, that's too good a look to pass up there.
29:42Even though it didn't go, that's one you gotta take.
29:45And you can count it.
29:46He'll go to the line with a chance to make it three.
29:48That's gonna send Drew Holiday to the free throw line.
29:52It's gonna be on Kobe Bryant.
29:54And guys, for Drew Holiday last season was a tale of two halves.
29:57Over the first half, he displayed the leadership and the playmaking skills the team had originally acquired him for.
30:03You know what, Kevin?
30:04Over the second half of the year, everything just kind of fell apart for Drew.
30:07He couldn't shake an injury to his lower right leg and, as a result, had to watch from the bench
30:13as his team fought for its playoff line.
30:15That free throw good from Drew Holiday.
30:18And when you talk about Holiday, the Pelicans really needed his contribution last season.
30:23He can score and distribute the basketball equally as well.
30:27An excellent all-around defender.
30:29Exactly what you want in a point guard, except that he just couldn't stay healthy.
30:34Boy, such outstanding patience and decision-making for them offensively.
30:39Absolutely.
30:40Their ball movement has been outstanding, and they're piling up the assists.
30:46That's good.
30:48Holiday's got fun.
30:50And for Holiday, I love his effort.
30:52He works extremely hard.
30:53His injuries, no fault of his own, just a run of misfortune.
30:57Let's hope this talented young man can turn it around and keep it turned around from a health standpoint.
31:03Here's Zachary.
31:04Off the left rim and out.
31:06Not sure what the D was doing there.
31:08Clearly a breakdown.
31:10You can ill afford to give a guy like him that good a look.
31:14Here's Cole.
31:17And the three off target.
31:19Lakers trail by three.
31:24Young outside.
31:26The shot is off.
31:28Boy, there was no hand in his face right there.
31:30I thought for sure he was going to knock that down.
31:35Cole, the pass to Holiday.
31:37Here's the screen.
31:40Here's Anderson.
31:43Bryant with the rebound.
31:45Kobe's got three rebounds so far in the game.
31:48And Young.
31:49Here we go.
31:50That's in.
31:50Coming off an assist by Kobe.
31:52Young's got six points.
31:54Clearly, he's one of the best there is in the business when it comes to making that lead pass.
32:02And Cole kicks to Holiday.
32:06Anderson up top.
32:08Plenty of space.
32:09And that one's good.
32:11And the Pelicans lead by three.
32:13Just couldn't get a hand in the face on that one.
32:17That's using what you got.
32:18He's got a height advantage.
32:19Put it to good use there.
32:20And got himself a clean look.
32:23And they clearly are just destroying this group right now from the three-point line.
32:29Yeah, and the defense knows it.
32:30I mean, they are fully stretched out trying to stop the three-point shot.
32:33And still haven't been able to do it.
32:57Thanks for joining us again as we get set for the fourth quarter.
32:59A terrific game so far.
33:13Los Angeles has gone three of six tonight when they've let it fly from downtown.
33:18So the Lakers five right now.
33:20Kobe and Randle, the forward duo.
33:22Russell is out there with Jordan Clarkson.
33:24And it's Hibbert in at the center position.
33:33Davis kicks to Pondexter.
33:36Passes it to Gordon.
33:38Just five to shoot.
33:44The rebound by the Lakers.
33:46Well, he's building a house with those bricks.
33:48I mean, one reason is he keeps trying to force it up when he's defended well.
33:52Move the ball.
33:53Share the sugar.
33:55Now, here is Russell to take the lead.
33:57And Kobe the bucket with the assist by Russell.
34:01Bryant's got the lead up to two now for the Lakers.
34:03Well, they were sleeping on defense.
34:05The defense really didn't do its job.
34:07I mean, a little slow to react to the ball getting into the paint.
34:10That's costly.
34:11And at this stage of a tight game, the tired legs really start to show.
34:15A defense becomes vulnerable if you can continue to pound it inside.
34:20You can't afford to get him that kind of a look.
34:23Well, you know, he came off a good screen.
34:25But still, as a defender, you've got to do a better job of fighting over and through that.
34:29Now, here's Kobe.
34:33And it's Russell in the corner.
34:36Misses the three.
34:38Russell's gone just 1-5 in the field.
34:43Pass to Gordon.
34:49It's held in by Los Angeles.
34:51Hibbert's got three rebounds so far in the game.
34:55Clarkson dishes to Bryant.
35:01Pass to Hibbert.
35:04The jump hook.
35:05Oh, and that one had the right spit on it.
35:07And it is good.
35:08They've got the lead despite pretty cold shooting from the field in the first half.
35:12And now they're beginning to find their groove.
35:15Heating up and looking to build on that lead.
35:19Well, special case.
35:21So many records for Kobe.
35:22But one he sent last season was most misses all time from the floor.
35:28You know, he passed the great Hondo, John Havlicek, for that title.
35:32I'm sure John doesn't mind having him pass him up for that one.
35:36The old Buckeye.
35:36Yeah, that's right.
35:37Most misses.
35:38But you look at the players on that list.
35:40A who's who of NBA stars.
36:06Let's catch up with Doris from the sideline.
36:08Guys, over that last break, I listened in on Alvin Gentry's huddle.
36:13They're getting outshot from the perimeter.
36:15He told them, we've got to close out faster on the outside shooters.
36:18These threes are killing us.
36:21Kevin, can they tighten their D?
36:22The Pelicans trail.
36:24And, you know, there's all this talk about Kobe now being the leader of missed shots, having that record.
36:30But, listen, the guys that are in the top five of that list are Hall of Fame players.
36:35So, you don't miss a lot of shots unless your team trusts you to take them, and you're pretty good.
36:41Now, here's Evans.
36:44Bounces high off the rim and drops.
36:47Evans has got it all tied up now for New Orleans.
36:53The pass to Clarkson.
36:55Picked by Randall.
36:56Dishes it to Russell.
36:59Outside Bryant.
37:01Back to Russell.
37:04Randall is screen on Evans.
37:06In the corner, it's Clarkson.
37:08Good, and it's Russell picking up the assist.
37:12Clarkson's got the lead.
37:13Back up the two now for Los Angeles.
37:15Hey, guys, a final thought on Kobe.
37:17I mean, all the players on that list were heavily leaned on for scoring.
37:23I'd take any of the top guys on that list over someone who's afraid to shoot the ball when their
37:28number's called.
37:29Now, here's Evans.
37:31Davis sets a screen.
37:35On the wing, Gordon.
37:37He's covered by Clarkson.
37:38Off the mark with the little step-back Johnny.
37:41This touch has disappeared on him this court.
37:44He just hasn't been able to get it going.
37:46From the corner.
37:48No good.
37:49And New Orleans will go the other way with it.
37:53Evans with it.
37:55He's picked up by Russell.
37:58Evans kicks to Davis.
38:01Randall grabs the board.
38:03Randall's got his third rebound on the ninth.
38:05Here's Russell.
38:07Trails the baseline jumper.
38:08And the Lakers lead by four.
38:11And there isn't a lot that they're doing well right now defensively.
38:14They just seem to be disconnected defensively in the second.
38:22Ladies and gentlemen, you're out-game stage team.
38:31See you next time.
38:31Bye.
38:39Bye.
38:43Bye.
38:45Bye.
38:48Bye.
39:08Williams is checked in for Clarkson.
39:11We have passion, we have purpose, and we have pride.
39:16Now get up and show us!
39:34Evans against Russell.
39:36Here's Davis.
39:37Yes, and an eyes assist from Evans.
39:40And they'll be counting on even more points from him.
39:43That's essential if they're going to pull this game out.
39:49Ladies and gentlemen, your Pelican Stands team.
40:42Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the court, your New Orleans Packers!
40:59We've got 113 left in the fourth.
41:04Picked by Randall.
41:06Russell passes to Kobe.
41:08Shot is no good.
41:09And New Orleans will go the other way with it.
41:15Evans outside.
41:21Kicks to Davis.
41:25Ball is knocked loose.
41:26Shot clock at six.
41:31That's a two from Gordon.
41:33It's good.
41:33This game is all even.
41:34We're seeing the red-hot version of Gordon right now.
41:46Ladies and gentlemen, your Hawkins Saints team.
42:09Here's 39 seconds left to play in the final quarter.
42:12Randall.
42:13Count it!
42:13Boy, what a pressure bucket that was.
42:16Greg, now that's coming through in the clutch.
42:26Ladies and gentlemen, your Hawkins Saints team.
42:34Okay, Greg, let's get through!
42:53And so it's New Orleans with it.
42:55A two-point game.
42:58Davis dishes to Evans.
43:0424 seconds left to play here on the fourth.
43:10Williams against Gordon.
43:12Clock at four.
43:13Pondexter from outside.
43:15But they recover it.
43:16No good from three-point territory.
43:20Yes!
43:21And really, I like the fact that even with the big lead, they never coasted.
43:26To me, that's a sign of a really good team, Greg, because you should always be playing against the game
43:31and yourself.
43:33I know there's an opponent out there, but when you have a lead, it's all about continuing to execute.
43:37Do what you do.
43:38And stay true to that.
43:40And I like that aggressiveness and full speed ahead kind of attack that they have.
44:14And I like that aggressiveness and full speed ahead of you.
44:35Evans kicks to Oshik.
44:37The dish to Davis.
44:38Feeds to Pondexter.
44:41Jacks up a three.
44:43It's off.
44:44So it's Los Angeles taking the W in a close one.
44:47A narrow win under difficult circumstances, Greg, as the visiting team.
44:51It really was, but that didn't seem to bother them.
44:53I mean, road team, home team, all I know is they were the better team.
44:58Well said.
44:59And time now to go courtside as we send you over to Doris Burke from the sideline.
45:03Doris?
45:04Kevin, I'm here with Roy Hibbert.
45:06Roy, what does this sort of grinded-out win say about your basketball team?
45:11We're a tough team.
45:13We let the grind wins out.
45:14And, you know, sometimes it's not always pretty, but we're trying to get the job done.
45:19And our bench did a great job of keeping us in there.
45:22So I'm really happy.
45:24A great team effort, Roy.
45:26Kevin, over to you.
45:28Doris, thank you as always.
45:29And that'll do it, folks.
45:31For Greg Anthony, Doris Burke, Clark Kellogg, and the rest of our terrific 2K Sports crew,
45:37this is Kevin Harlan saying thanks for watching.
45:39We'll see you next time.
45:41Have a great evening.
45:42The 2K Sports Postgame Show.
45:51Thank you, Kevin.
45:52And now we have the opportunity to present our Jordan player of the game, Kobe Bryant.
45:58Look, how many times have we seen games like this from Kobe?
46:01He was the primary option.
46:03They needed a bucket and he delivered.
46:04His game has evolved in the last few years, but the recipe was working tonight.
46:08I think his efficiency from the field was the biggest factor in this win.
46:12He made over 60% of his shots.
46:14I don't care if you're playing one-on-one or one-on-five.
46:18That is a great percentage.
46:21And that's it for our broadcast here tonight.
46:24We're just getting started on a new season in the NBA.
46:28For Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny the Jet Smith, Kevin Harlan, and the entire 2K Sports crew,
46:33I'm Ernie Johnson.
46:34We'll see you again soon.
