00:00Why is this case such a priority for the bureau?
00:03Well, this is one of the largest gold heists in U.S. history.
00:07Just the amount of gold and the method by which they committed the robbery is what makes this case so
00:12unique.
00:13The refinery that's processing the gold, that's selling it, shipping it up to Massachusetts,
00:18the refinery was down here in Miami in South Florida,
00:22and the end purchaser was up in, I think, Bridgeport, Massachusetts.
00:26So, you know, you've got those two victims, but not to mention, and most importantly,
00:31you have the two operators of the armored vehicle or the semi-truck that was transporting the gold.
00:37These two poor individuals were pulled out of the truck at gunpoint.
00:41They were pepper sprayed through a remote-controlled device.
00:44This was a violent crime perpetrated with real guns to real people.
00:48They bought GPS trackers and placed them on the two semi-trucks that they knew were used
00:55to transport these precious metals, and then they, the day of the robbery,
00:59they knew if they saw that thing getting on the highway and heading north,
01:02that it was going to be transporting precious metals, gold, silver,
01:06and sure enough, the day of the robbery, they saw it light up.
01:10It was heading north up 95.
01:12They had a rental van that they even went as far as to drill out the fuel tank
01:17and have external gas tanks where they could continue to fuel the rental truck
01:22so they didn't have to stop so they would be able to catch up with the semi.
