00:00Let me just ask this, if you're getting a jersey for your kid, and let's throw all three teams in
00:06there, is it not a Dilauder jersey?
00:08I asked that on social media, a lot of people got, social media reactions brought to you by...
00:13Shyman Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
00:15A lot of people got in and said Jose, and I said, well, I mean, Jose's been here 14 years.
00:19Today is the day he breaks the record for games played as an Indian slash guardian.
00:23He's been here 14 years. I just assume a lot of fans have something of Jose.
00:27Right. Like a Jersey, especially with all the giveaways at the stadium, bobblehead, regular Jersey, the whole thing, like something
00:35of his seems to be given away every single year.
00:37And so you probably have something, but when it comes to like, if you're a Jersey person or you're getting
00:42a Jersey for your kid, like I gotta tell you, Axel's birthday's in June.
00:47He ain't up to hear this right now. Cause he ain't going to school. They ain't going to school today.
00:52He's getting a Dilauder jersey. Is he not?
00:54Am I not getting him a Chase Dilauder jersey?
00:56Well, by June, if the Cavs are in the NBA finals...
01:00You're still getting a Dilauder jersey.
01:02And James Harden has had the playoffs of his life.
01:08I mean, they made it to the NBA finals.
01:10He's okay, but he would have been here for four months.
01:13They could be up 2-0 in the series by the time his birthday.
01:16At least you're getting a guaranteed Hall of Famer.
01:18But no, he's only going to be here this stretch run, next year, and then who knows?
01:26I'm playing devil's advocate on that.
01:28Of course you are.
01:28Of course.
01:29I think his only counts if they make some huge playoffs.
01:34I mean, there are people that have Shaq Cavs jerseys too.
01:38He didn't do anything.
01:39But I think that those folks are adults.
01:41I think a lot of those, like, when Zach Meisel does the random Indians jerseys,
01:46I think some of that's kind of either they're a family member, they have some fun,
01:50they found one at a discount, whatever it might be.
01:54Like, I think that's kind of...
01:55Like, you bought a Shaquille O'Neal Cavs jersey,
01:56you're probably a big Shaquille O'Neal fan beforehand.
01:59That jersey's probably very, very, very, very, very old by now.
02:02And it's probably worn and faded a little bit.
02:04But I'm just pointing out, like, I don't remember the last time I've seen this type
02:09of fever for a new player, for a rookie.
02:11Not one that we had an actual expectation for.
02:14Like, Stephen Kwan was great when he came up, but who was even talking about him
02:18before he came out and he hit .400 to start his career?
02:22Well, you know, Lada was even saying, like, you go back to years and years and years ago,
02:26this is heresy to say this about Jose Ramirez.
02:28There was a point he was out of options.
02:30And, like, he had to make the team as, like, a right fielder or something like that
02:33to make, or left fielder or up fielder.
02:35He played second base in the playoffs one year when Kipnis got hurt.
02:37Yeah.
02:38Like, that's what makes him, I think that's what kind of makes him a special story.
02:41It wasn't like he was a Paul Skeen's number one overall.
02:44Like, there was a lot of people who did not think very highly of Jose Ramirez.
02:48And now he's a, I mean, he's a first-bound Hall of Famer to us.
02:51He's at least a Hall of Famer to everybody else.
02:54Like, this guy is the face of the franchise and the most beloved player in all of Cleveland
03:00with all three major teams.
03:01But if you were going to buy a jersey right now, I mean, I just got to say it.
03:05I think it ends up being chased.
03:08I can't say any, I don't want to think about the possibilities, realistically,
03:12of why I wouldn't get him a jersey of Chase DeLauter coming up on June 12th.
03:19Even though his birthday is June 13th, I should say.
03:22Coming up in mid-June.
03:23Like, I don't think that there's going to be anything getting in my way.
03:26Other than what I get from my youngest son, because his birthday is in May.
03:29So maybe I get him a DeLauter jersey, and then I get the other one a DeLauter jersey.
03:33I don't know how that one goes.
03:34That's a lot of DeLauter.
03:35That's a lot of DeLauter in the Carmen household right there.
03:38I mean, has he been loving the DeLauter experience?
03:42Yeah.
03:42Is he all in?
03:43Well, because...
03:44At their age, do they have the attention span to watch these games?
03:49Because when you hear your dads, and it's not just me, like his buddies,
03:53and they all play baseball.
03:54He doesn't now.
03:54But all his buddies play baseball, and if their dads are talking about Chase DeLauter
03:59and these home runs that he's hitting, and it almost becomes something of folklore,
04:05like, yeah, then they're interested in seeing him.
04:07He wants to see him when he comes up to the plate.
04:09Everybody's singing country roads every time he steps up there.
04:12Like, yeah, it's a big damn deal.
04:16Jose's Jose.
04:17Jose's the gold standard.
04:18It's no disrespect.
04:19But if you were getting a new jersey right now, it's got to be Chase DeLauter.
04:24It might be James Harden, like you said.
04:26Might be him.
04:27Is there anybody with the Browns?
04:28You're not getting a Shador No. 2 jersey over a DeLauter No. 24 right now?
04:32No.
04:33I bet you there's a contingent that would.
04:36They're probably in our YouTube comments.
04:39I bet you they would.
04:40Well, then they're...
04:41Okay, then those folks aren't Cleveland fans is what you're...
04:44I'm talking to Cleveland fans.
04:45Well, I think they're Cleveland fans as long as Shador Sanders is the starting quarterback.
04:49Well, I'm talking to Cleveland fans who were there before, after, during, Shador Sanders
04:53being quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
04:54Like, one guy I see playing for your baseball team as long as he stays healthy.
04:59Now, let me...
05:00A good long while.
05:01I will say, the minute they draft the Ohio State wide receiver...
05:06Yes.
05:07I think that could be an instant purchase.
05:11I mean, a Cardinal Tate No. 17 jersey is probably going to go flying off the shelves.
05:16You're right about that.
05:16But, I think as of right now...
05:21And just because it's a football town, I could see that.
05:23I could see that eclipsing, you know, Delauder.
05:26Unless Delauder just goes and hits, you know, 45, 50 bombs this year.
05:31Then it would tilt right back.
05:32Well, it's true.
05:33You know what?
05:33I can only see Cardinal Tate being the only one to break.
05:35Like, Shador, I think...
05:37The No. 12s...
05:38I think there will be No. 12s.
05:40I think he's got to go out and he's got to win the job and then play well for there
05:44to
05:44be a bunch of No. 2s in the stadium, okay?
05:46When it comes to...
05:48Well, you're right about Tate.
05:49Tate's the only one I could see.
05:51Tate's the only one I could see.
05:52Like, if you took Malonella or you took...
05:54Like, you're not going to...
05:55Right.
05:55Most aren't going to do that until they actually become something there.
05:59Jeremiah Love, I think, is a fine football player.
06:01I don't think it would be a very popular pick.
06:03I don't think you're going to see a lot of Jeremiah Love jerseys out there.
06:05Not as many as DeLotter.
06:07Yeah, but that could be something people gravitate towards.
06:09I don't think you're going to see as many as what you're going to see with DeLotter.
06:12I just think that he's the guy.
06:13Can I share something with you here?
06:15My history with the Browns has started to change how I feel about the Guardians a little
06:19bit and their situation with Cade Smith.
06:21Like, I know I'm the first one, like, oh, well, you always got to watch when you have
06:25a closer.
06:26I just think we're in this situation where, like, Peyton Paulette, it's too early to talk
06:31about him as a closer right now.
06:32Now, Cade Smith seemed to be the guy that you were going to have to be the heir apparent
06:36for that closer role.
06:39You didn't know it was all going to go like that with Emmanuel Classe the way it went,
06:42but I think a lot of us eventually were thinking it might be Cade Smith.
06:46Well, I'm just saying, go back to last year before the trade deadline, because the Classe
06:51thing happened, like, the week after the trade deadline.
06:54Okay.
06:54Everybody, I shouldn't say everybody, the majority of people were ready to trade Classe for a bat
07:00because they said, well, we got Cade Smith, right?
07:03Cade Smith can step into that role.
07:05And now there seems to be a lot of people, you know, very nervous and probably rightfully
07:11so when he goes out and he threw, what, like 33 pitches yesterday?
07:15Like, he's throwing a lot of pitches for a closer, especially he came out and got his
07:19first two outs pretty quick.
07:20Well, Friday, he looked pretty good, and then he gives up the single, and you're like,
07:24don't do this.
07:25Come on.
07:25And then it ended up being fine, but he gives up a hit, and the first thing that comes out
07:30of your mouth is, don't, don't, come on.
07:32Don't do this.
07:33Just let's get through it.
07:34But I think with, like, if Andre Schmidt taught me anything, and I know it's a different sport,
07:38but if Andre Schmidt taught me anything, it's like, hey, I can't really go freaking out
07:41over early season jitters over a closer that, yeah, he's going to have to develop into the
07:46closer role.
07:47As much as you hate it, it's a zero-sum game.
07:49You can either do it or you can't.
07:50You can either close these games out or you can't.
07:52And the Guardians are not a team as they get some of the offense worked out.
07:56Like, I think we're fine with a couple of people.
07:57I want to see the frost get away from the field before I go judging on Manzardo, before
08:02I go ripping on Stephen Kwan, even though I know his second half of the season wasn't
08:05good last year.
08:07Before I go ripping on those guys, I want to see how they shake the cobwebs out of the
08:10early part of the season.
08:11We go through the ebbs and flows of the weather.
08:14If I can do that with them, why can't I do that with Cade Smith?
08:16I know, again, they're not a team that can afford to give up many saves, all right?
08:22They're not offensively capable of doing that still.
08:26But if I'm going to do that with those hitters, and I'm over here giving arguments for, hey,
08:30maybe we're being a little bit too hard on Gabby Arias because his name's not Travis
08:33Bazzana, and I think people want to see the next big thing, even though, again, they'll
08:37tell you bat speed and all these other things.
08:39The possibility for power and production are all there with Gab Arias.
08:43Why wouldn't I say that then for Cade Smith?
08:45I know it's the highest leverage situation you can find, but I think I'm going to have to be
08:50a little bit patient.
08:50Like, if he blows one this week, I know a lot of people are going to be upset, and
08:54I'm going to probably have to talk some people down off the ledges, and this is coming from
08:57me, and Owen knows.
08:58I'm notoriously short with closers.
09:01It's just how I am.
09:02But I think most people are in today's baseball.
09:05I'm just trying to be reasonable here.
09:07So many guys, so many teams just cycle through these guys over the course of two to three
09:14years.
09:15It's like, all right, well, one guy lost it.
09:17Now we're on to the next one already, and so I've seen people already, you know, kind
09:21of scouting the depth chart and down to the minors.
09:24You know, I've seen people mention, like, Espino, because he throws hard, even though
09:27he's thrown so little because of the injuries.
09:30Like, this is just the state of affairs unless you have a dominant closer.
09:35Let's go.
09:35Let's go.
