Despite spiralling fuel prices, petrol station owners say they're not making money from the increases. The Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association's CEO Rowan Lee says fuel retailers are even losing money.

00:09They've got to find an extra million dollars to buy their fuel.
00:11So there's been real pressure on fuel retailers right along this.
00:15And they're trying to service their customers
00:17and provide all the products that they need to.
00:21So there's been an increased demand.
00:23It's like moving deck chairs around.
00:27People are playing chess.
00:28They're trying to keep inventory up and available for their customers.
00:32So it's been huge challenges.
00:34I had a retailer get in touch with me on a good Friday morning
00:39saying he'd work 30 days straight
00:41and he's working about 18 hours a day.
00:43So they're trying to do the right thing.
00:45They're under huge pressure trying to manage inventory,
00:48manage their staff and manage their drivers as well
00:51who are under huge pressure as well.
00:54So it hasn't been easy for the fuel retail industry.
00:58But we're soldiering on
00:59and trying to do the right thing by our customers.
