Switchblade Symphony has been a big gothic rock favorite of mine since the 90s. I first heard their song, "Gutter Glitter," and was so impressed I bought the CD, Serpentine Gallery (1995). This song, "Anmorata," appeared on their third and final album, which I also own, The Three Calamities. It is also the final track. I had considered doing "Gutter Glitter" but never got around to it. The band was formed in San Francisco in 1989 by composer Susan Wallace and vocalist Tina Root. This is my first Switchblade Symphony music video, something I have always been meaning to do but never have done. The group also featured guitarist George Earth and drummer Scott van Shoick.

On an online Switchblade Symphony forum, kissmesuicide posted: "This song is pretty clearly about the jealousy of one woman to another. Anmorata is a woman who has, romantically, everything, and Tina's (figuratively) jealousy of her, and how Anmorata takes it for granted." Looking up meaning of the word, "anmorata," it appears to have been created out of the word "inamorata" ... most likely as a fictional personal name. It refers to a woman with whom one is in love or a female lover. In this case "Anmorata" is the love interest of a woman or a man, or both. The song, melodically, is powerful, but very dark.
