00:00Tonight, on The Curse of Oak Island.
00:04SBC and Rock are here.
00:07We want something found today.
00:09Find some treasure, boys!
00:11That thing looks unstoppable.
00:15Ooh, I think this is a key.
00:18Key?
00:19I want to get this one to the left.
00:20100%.
00:21It's very interesting that's saying super early time period.
00:24No way!
00:25We're finally moving in a direction that could give us some answers.
00:31There is an island in the North Atlantic
00:34where people have been looking for an incredible treasure
00:38for more than 200 years.
00:41So far, they have found a stone slab
00:44with strange symbols carved into it.
00:47Man-made workings that date to medieval times.
00:51And a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:56To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:02And, according to legend,
01:05one more will have to die
01:07before the treasure can be found.
01:28A critical day has arrived on Oak Island
01:31for Rick and Marty Lagina, Craig Tester, and their team.
01:40As a dig operation that has been months in the making
01:43is about to begin in the Money Pit area.
01:47Hey, guys!
01:48SBC and Rock are here, personnel and equipment.
01:51They've been rolling in pretty steady,
01:53and they brought all their toys.
01:55We've got some good locations this year,
01:57and we get down to that solution channel.
02:00Hopefully we bring up not only that one thing,
02:02but all of it.
02:04You mean actual treasure?
02:07Treasure of the T word.
02:08Yeah.
02:10This year, the team has drilled
02:12more than a dozen new boreholes
02:14over 200 feet deep into the solution channel,
02:17where the legendary treasure
02:19is believed to have fallen
02:21after the collapse of the original Money Pit.
02:24After testing soil samples
02:26from the bottom of the boreholes,
02:28So far, two of them, known as I-9.5 and K-9.5,
02:34have yielded unusually high traces of silver.
02:38Now, the team will begin excavating
02:40a 7-foot diameter steel shaft in this area
02:43to find the source of the silver.
02:46It is a location the team previously excavated in 2019,
02:51down to a depth of some 150 feet,
02:54which never reached the solution channel
02:57and was backfilled with tons of loose gravel,
03:00known as surge rock.
03:04Of those 500 boreholes we've drilled out here,
03:07I'll bet you no more than 5% of them
03:09went to the depth that I now suspect
03:11where the treasure lies.
03:14We're going to have to partially go over
03:16other caissons that were pulled
03:19and then filled with surge rock
03:21to keep everything from collapsing
03:22and drill down deeper.
03:23And that's what we plan to do.
03:25It is their hope
03:27that the high traces of silver
03:28may be related to a 14th century silver coin
03:32that was reportedly found in the Money Pit
03:34back in 1849,
03:37which is connected to the Portuguese set
03:39of the Knights Templar.
03:48It's exciting because we've spent exhaustive hours
03:51trying to come up with an area
03:53of significant interest,
03:55and we believe we have.
03:57How does it feel to be back on Oak Island?
03:59It's pretty nice.
04:00Feels great to be back.
04:01I love it here.
04:02Perfect.
04:03I like that attitude.
04:05This mystery has resisted solution
04:08for 230-plus years.
04:11I want answers.
04:13We all do.
04:14Definitely brought some big toys this year.
04:17We're told we ought to go pretty deep, so...
04:19That looks really serious.
04:21Yeah.
04:22That's the new LP-45 we brought down.
04:24The big torque can run big depths
04:27and should be able to chew through
04:28whatever we need to
04:29and help us see what's down there.
04:31What are you using?
04:31Just an auger to drill through the rock?
04:33Yep.
04:34We're going to probably maybe
04:35break a new record with this,
04:36just for how fast these drills
04:38are coming in and out of the hole
04:39versus us grabbing.
04:39I know grabbing's efficient as well,
04:41but this is going to be a lot faster,
04:43material-wise.
04:44I would think especially at depth, actually,
04:46because the trip time on a hammer grab
04:48is a long time.
04:50This is just telescopes in and out, right?
04:52And it'll be a lot quicker
04:52coming in and out of the hole.
04:53It's pretty exciting.
04:54Yeah.
04:54It is.
04:55It's very interesting.
04:56That bolt doesn't stand a chance.
04:58Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
05:01In order to reach the solution channel,
05:04the teams from Solitanj Bashi Canada
05:07and ROC Equipment
05:09will mount a 7-foot diameter auger bit
05:11onto a 135-ton telescoping drill rig.
05:16After placing the auger
05:17inside massive steel caissons,
05:20it will rapidly drive down
05:21through soil, hard clay,
05:23and other debris,
05:26bringing spoils to the surface
05:28while a steel shaft
05:30is installed more than 200 feet deep.
05:33Once the solution channel is reached,
05:35a giant dig bucket
05:36will replace the auger bit
05:38to safely remove additional spoils
05:41and the potential treasure.
05:43We're looking at the location
05:45right there, right?
05:46Yeah.
05:46The orange dot?
05:47Yeah.
05:48During our sonic drill program this spring,
05:50we've been analyzing our cores
05:52and we've got silver in the soils.
05:54That's very interesting.
05:55And then, of course,
05:56there's what we call a pipledo coin,
05:58a Portuguese coin
06:00possibly found in this general area.
06:02Wow.
06:03If that's what's down there,
06:04then your toys,
06:06as you describe them,
06:07will find more of them.
06:08And that's the home.
06:10Yeah.
06:11I try and not get too excited
06:13about what-ifs,
06:15but I can tell you this,
06:17it could be hundreds of millions
06:18or even billions of dollars.
06:20That's exciting.
06:22All right, I'm happy.
06:23When are you going to dig?
06:24Break ground tomorrow.
06:25Yeah.
06:26That's the plan.
06:26I like that.
06:27The only thing I'd like to have heard better
06:29is today.
06:31Tomorrow's acceptable.
06:32Yeah.
06:33All right.
06:34All right.
06:34Thanks, guys.
06:35As the teams from ROC
06:37and SB Canada
06:38prepare for the dig
06:39in the Money Pit area.
06:42All right, mate.
06:44Getting stuck back in again.
06:45Rick and Craig join Gary Drayton
06:48and Tom Nolan
06:49to continue searching for clues
06:51on Tom's property
06:53in the northern region of the swamp.
06:56We've got a lot of history
06:57that's been uncovered recently.
06:59The mystery vault.
07:01We've got a row of stakes
07:03leading us to that vault,
07:05and we're digging right on the line.
07:08They are following a cobblestone path
07:11that is lined with
07:12eight-sided wooden survey sticks,
07:14a path that one year ago
07:16led them to a mysterious
07:18but unfortunately empty vault
07:21some 50 yards to the south.
07:24Now, they are eager to see
07:26if more hidden structures
07:27that contain valuables
07:29are waiting to be found
07:31in this area.
07:33Is that deep enough?
07:34Yep.
07:35That's good over there, Al.
07:36I'll take another one here.
07:46Whoa-ho!
07:47Rick!
07:47I've got a fine deer.
07:52Look at that.
07:55That's leather.
07:56Oh, yeah.
07:57Think that's a boot or a shoe?
07:59That's not a modern piece of shoe.
08:01No.
08:02More than likely, it's a sole.
08:04Look at all the little holes.
08:06See, you know it's not stitched.
08:09Yeah, it's like the old,
08:10like little ob nails.
08:13It's got an old feel about it,
08:16for sure.
08:17You start slipping,
08:18you lose your shoe.
08:20Next thing you know,
08:21you're losing your coins.
08:23Aside from the bits of leather
08:25you found in the money pit,
08:26the majority of the finds
08:28have been in the swamp.
08:29That leather down there
08:30in the southeast corner
08:31was very, very old.
08:32Oh, yeah.
08:33You know what?
08:34There might be more in here.
08:38In 2023,
08:39while searching for clues
08:41near the possibly
08:42Portuguese stone road
08:43in the southeast corner
08:44of the swamp...
08:45Check that out.
08:47What the heck is that?
08:51Rick and Gary
08:52found part of a boot
08:53which was of European origin
08:56and could date back
08:57to the 17th century.
08:59Could Rick and Gary
09:01have found a related clue?
09:02And if so,
09:04might it help identify
09:05just who built
09:06the cobble road?
09:13Look at that, Gary.
09:15Oh-ho!
09:16With big, uh,
09:18nail holes in it.
09:18Yeah, they're ob nails.
09:20That's on stitching.
09:21Yeah, for sure.
09:23That's not a modern
09:24piece of shoe.
09:25Hell of a great
09:27eyeball fine ring.
09:28Leather is where
09:29you say to yourself,
09:30you know what?
09:30There's a real story here.
09:31Yeah.
09:32If these pieces of leather
09:34are from shoes or boots
09:35from the people
09:36who did the original work
09:38in this area.
09:39That'd be something.
09:40Yeah.
09:41We have the lab
09:42here on the island
09:43to really,
09:44no pun intended,
09:45to nail down
09:46where that leather
09:47came from.
09:47Yeah.
09:48This is how it's gonna go.
09:49Leather, coins,
09:50and champagne.
09:52There you go.
09:53Yeah.
09:53I think there's
09:54a lot of information
09:55that might reside
09:56within this shoe leather.
09:58The platforms,
10:00the paved area,
10:01the suspected paths,
10:03the roads,
10:04all of the constructions
10:05in the bar.
10:06There's so much
10:07we don't know about
10:08and the reason
10:08why it was constructed.
10:10But everything you find
10:11could be the clue
10:12you're looking for.
10:14We'll probably get a scoop
10:15out of there, Craig.
10:22That's strange.
10:24The excavator bucket
10:25just went straight down.
10:32There's some sort
10:33of void here.
10:35Yep.
10:41As you can see,
10:43the excavator bucket
10:44went straight down.
10:45Oh, yeah.
10:46You know,
10:46I'm gonna say
10:47five feet
10:48into this void.
10:50Don't you want?
10:52Mm.
10:53In the northern region
10:54of the Oak Island Swamp,
10:56the team has made
10:57what could be
10:58an important discovery.
11:00It's solid
11:01all the way around.
11:02Mm.
11:03So somebody's dug it.
11:04Yeah.
11:05People were in here.
11:06People were in here
11:07doing something.
11:08Yeah.
11:10A five-foot-deep,
11:11man-made hole?
11:13Might it have been created
11:14by someone connected
11:15to the shoe leather
11:17the team found nearby
11:19and the sections
11:20of the cobblestone path
11:21that the team has uncovered
11:23throughout the swamp.
11:25Okay, Al,
11:26let's see what's there.
11:27Okay.
11:28Okay.
11:44Let's buy some treasure, boys.
11:48What have we got here?
11:53Another stake.
11:55Who came out
11:55of that last load
11:56wherever that last scoop
11:57came from?
11:59Hey, Tom,
12:00can you come over?
12:01Yep.
12:05The stakes you found
12:06previously,
12:07are they lining up here?
12:09It looks like
12:10it may be
12:11on one of the lines
12:12projected from the stakes
12:13we have found this year.
12:14And think of what
12:15was right over there.
12:17We referenced it
12:18many times, right?
12:19The vault.
12:20Because if those stakes
12:22point to that,
12:23it may point to another one here.
12:25Those stakes might have
12:26something to tell us yet.
12:27To me,
12:28that's the puzzle here.
12:29Yeah.
12:30This stake that comes
12:32out of the ground
12:33might be delineating
12:35a path from long ago.
12:38Tom has iterated many times
12:40his father did not use stakes.
12:42Maybe these new finds
12:44will tell us
12:45who did it,
12:46when they did it,
12:47why they did it.
12:48But we live to fight
12:49another day,
12:50so let's pack it up,
12:52let's bring the things
12:52to the lab,
12:53see what kind of results
12:54we can get.
12:55Okay, sounds good.
12:57Off we go.
13:00Later that afternoon.
13:03Well, there she be,
13:04Corey, right there.
13:06What do you think?
13:07It's a nice little rock.
13:09We're proud of it.
13:11On lot eight,
13:13Rick has joined Marty
13:14and other members
13:15of the team
13:15to meet with crane operator
13:17Corey Robard
13:18at the massive boulder feature.
13:21We're currently at a stage
13:23where we're trying to find
13:24where the original cuts were
13:26when they excavated down here,
13:28whatever they did.
13:30We don't know how deep
13:31it goes down yet.
13:33The team began investigating
13:35this boulder
13:36several weeks ago,
13:37which sets above a ring
13:39of evenly spaced stones
13:41and covers
13:42a backfilled void.
13:43I'll show you
13:44there's a really good spot.
13:46All right.
13:47After feeding
13:48a snake camera
13:49into a narrow space
13:50that the team dug out
13:51below the boulder,
13:53they recorded images
13:55of possible tools.
13:57It's gold looking.
13:58It certainly is.
14:00And even a gold-colored material.
14:04And just one week ago,
14:05soil testing on samples
14:07taken from beneath the boulder
14:09contained unnatural levels of lead,
14:12which the team believes
14:13could be evidence
14:14of a centuries-old mining tunnel.
14:18Now,
14:19archaeologist Laird Niven
14:20has given the team permission
14:22to remove the boulder
14:23in order to find out
14:25just what might be buried
14:27underneath it.
14:31So I'm going to say
14:32we'll put a chain
14:33around here.
14:35We'll choke this
14:36around the bottom.
14:38We'll bring four legs down,
14:39which will be chained.
14:41And we'll put
14:42two pins on this side
14:44and two pins
14:44on the other side.
14:46Pins?
14:47Like, what do you mean?
14:48One inch bar?
14:49Steel?
14:50Drill a hole in?
14:51Yeah.
14:51Mm-hmm.
14:51And then we'll bring
14:52the slings down
14:54and hook into that chain.
14:55And then that'll hold
14:56this rock on this side
14:58and that side,
14:58squeeze it together
14:59as it's coming up.
15:01Does that mean
15:02we may not necessarily
15:03have to dig
15:04any area
15:04that could possibly
15:05compromise
15:06what we're looking at?
15:07Yeah.
15:08Okay.
15:08You know what?
15:09That's very encouraging.
15:10Yeah.
15:11Corey,
15:12how big of a crane
15:13do you think you'll need?
15:14I'm going to bring
15:15130-ton crane.
15:17These two trees will go.
15:18I'm going to set in here.
15:20They need to clear
15:21all around yet,
15:22so that's going
15:23to take a while.
15:25Probably the biggest
15:26logistic issue
15:27is bringing in
15:28the crane itself
15:29because it's a big,
15:29it's a big machine.
15:31This week,
15:32Billy and his workers
15:32will be working
15:33on the road
15:34and the tree removal
15:35that's required.
15:37There's absolutely
15:38no way to understand
15:39that boulder
15:39without lifting it
15:40out of the way.
15:41I think this is
15:42going to go cleanly.
15:43I really, really do.
15:44I think we have
15:45the right technology
15:45and the people
15:46who know what they're doing.
15:48The rest of us
15:49can get back to it.
15:54As a new day
15:55breaks on Oak Island.
16:00All right!
16:02Woo!
16:05Well, thank you.
16:07What are you all
16:08standing around for?
16:09Rick, Marty, Craig,
16:11and the rest of the team
16:12gather in the Money Pit area.
16:15Vanessa, welcome back
16:16to Oak Island.
16:17Hey.
16:17Now that the teams
16:18from Rock and SB Canada
16:20have finished setting up
16:22their equipment.
16:23It's finally time
16:25to begin a dig
16:26that will go deeper
16:27than any previous
16:28searcher operation
16:29in Oak Island history.
16:31That thing looks
16:32unstoppable.
16:34Pretty impressive.
16:35Yeah.
16:36You know, when I'm standing here
16:37in the Money Pit,
16:38I always think of 230-plus years
16:41of activity,
16:42230-plus years of search,
16:45of commitment,
16:47intellect, passion,
16:49belief.
16:50But this year,
16:51it's about finding treasure.
16:53treasure.
16:54And there are two people here
16:56who are emblematic
16:58of finding things,
16:59especially the one thing.
17:01So I would ask Gary
17:03and Katya to come up
17:04and get this kicked off
17:06because you find things
17:08and we want something
17:09found in this Money Pit
17:10today.
17:12You accept that challenge?
17:13Challenge accepted.
17:15Let's go and catch it.
17:16No pressure.
17:19Careful climbing up
17:20the track there.
17:23Quarious.
17:23Good.
17:24Wow.
17:26Gary,
17:26I've taken the liberty
17:28of naming this hole.
17:29Okay.
17:30Top pocket find.
17:32All right.
17:33Yeah.
17:34That's what we want it to be.
17:35Good choice.
17:37TPF.
17:38TPF.
17:39You getting any of your
17:41kitchen?
17:41Not on.
17:43All right.
17:44Start her up.
17:45Find some treasure,
17:46boys.
17:50Oh, baby.
17:52Wow.
17:53Yeah!
17:55Make it all.
17:56There's high hopes
17:57and great anticipation.
17:59This has been a long slog
18:01and it's, you know,
18:0312, 13 years in the making.
18:05You're not going to get him
18:06out of that seat.
18:07We are not.
18:09Wow.
18:10Hot one-one.
18:13We are what Marty long ago
18:15called the Fellowship of the Dig.
18:17I am incredibly grateful
18:19for their presence,
18:21for their contributions,
18:23for their passion
18:25to solve this incredibly
18:27complex mystery.
18:29I draw inspiration from them.
18:31So let's find the treasure.
18:35What a thrill!
18:37Hey!
18:39You started drilling,
18:41now let's find some gold.
18:42Come on.
18:44Absolutely.
18:45Do it.
18:46Well done, Gary.
18:47Awesome.
18:51There we go!
18:52We're going to find
18:53some treasure here.
18:55Hey, team!
18:56Thank you for being here.
18:58I love you all.
18:59Now get back to work,
19:01okay?
19:06Dang, it's moving.
19:08Crap is it moving.
19:10As the excavation
19:11of the TPF shaft
19:13continues in the Money Pit area.
19:18Hey, Carmen.
19:20How you doing today?
19:20You're center stage, man.
19:22Welcome back.
19:23Wonderful.
19:23Marty, Craig,
19:24and other members of the team
19:26are meeting in the Oak Island lab
19:28with blacksmithing expert
19:30Carmen Lang.
19:31I found this with Rick
19:32on Lot 8.
19:33Okay.
19:35Six weeks ago,
19:36while searching for clues
19:37several yards south
19:39of the boulder feature
19:40on Lot 8,
19:41Rick and Katya
19:42found a possible knife handle.
19:45And curiously,
19:46it was unearthed
19:47in the same area
19:48where the pieces
19:49of potentially 16th century chain
19:52were also recently discovered.
19:55It immediately looked to me
19:57like a knife handle.
19:58I'll have a look.
20:00Now,
20:01the team is eager
20:02to get Carmen's assessment
20:03on this find
20:04to confirm
20:05just what it is
20:07and when
20:08it may have been created.
20:10Wow,
20:10this is certainly
20:10an interesting piece.
20:15It's not a knife, no.
20:17It has a lot of features on it.
20:20Yeah.
20:22So what is it?
20:25That's a good question.
20:27I think it was a tool
20:28that was easier
20:29to use like this
20:30to swing in a certain notch
20:32or this way
20:34to pick it up,
20:35just swing it over.
20:36This is a tool
20:38made for a specific part
20:39of some larger tool
20:41that had some sort
20:42of mechanism to it.
20:42Oh, yeah.
20:44Levers, pulleys,
20:46could that possibly be
20:47part of one of those systems?
20:50That's what I'm seeing
20:51is some type
20:52of ratcheting tool.
20:53Mm-hmm.
20:55It's not far from the Lottie boulder,
20:56so it's interesting.
20:59A tool
21:00that could have been
21:01part of a pulley system?
21:03Might it be related
21:04to the heavy chain
21:05that the team found
21:06in this area?
21:08And if so,
21:09could both have been used
21:10in order to lift
21:11the massive boulder
21:12into place
21:13or perhaps
21:14to lower something
21:15in the ground
21:16beneath it?
21:17What about the metallurgy?
21:19What's that telling you?
21:21So the metallurgy
21:22is actually really,
21:22it's a nice clean iron.
21:25It is more reminiscent
21:27of, like,
21:28the European iron
21:29that we commonly see
21:30within the 1700s.
21:32Is it possible
21:33to be moulder?
21:34Yeah, it's possible.
21:35There's been
21:36a bunch of different things
21:37on Lot 8
21:38that we've dug up
21:39over the years.
21:40It's almost like
21:41bits and pieces
21:41were dropped
21:42from a couple
21:43different timelines.
21:44But something happened
21:46on Lot 8.
21:47Lot 8 is giant
21:49in our minds right now
21:51because of this
21:51big boulder on it.
21:52So this tool device
21:55is from the 1700s
21:57and it's evidence
21:58somebody was doing
21:59something on Lot 8.
22:01It is kind of
22:02a wow thing.
22:04So, in summation,
22:06we have an enigmatic,
22:08interesting,
22:09perhaps one-of-a-kind tool
22:12more to the saga
22:14of all kinds of stuff
22:15happening here
22:15pre-1795.
22:18I think for sure
22:19someone was there
22:20doing some sort
22:21of type of work.
22:21I think there's
22:23something under this rock.
22:24I think people
22:25actually did something here.
22:27So, could these dates
22:29be representative
22:30of those efforts?
22:31It could be.
22:33There's an air of excitement
22:34to see what's
22:35underneath that boulder.
22:37Carmen, thank you
22:38very much.
22:38A lot of information here.
22:40And everybody else,
22:41we can get back to it, right?
22:42Sounds good.
22:46Later that day...
22:49We're getting to the end
22:50of the north end
22:51of the bog.
22:52Yeah.
22:54Rick, Tom,
22:55and other members
22:55of the team
22:56continue the dig
22:58in the northern region
22:59of the swamp
22:59to track the projected
23:01direction
23:01of the cobblestone pathway.
23:03I'll start pulling down
23:05some of these sides.
23:06I can watch everything
23:07that's coming out here.
23:08All right.
23:09Let's get going.
23:09Sounds good.
23:10Let's park her up, Al.
23:25There's a significant
23:26cobble road.
23:28What story does that tell
23:29in terms of understanding
23:30what the swamp work
23:31might represent?
23:33I think that the work
23:35in the swamp,
23:35as we currently understand it,
23:37might have something
23:38to do with the efforts
23:39in the money pit.
23:41But given the extensive
23:42amount of fines
23:43in the bog,
23:45there's every hope
23:46that something
23:47of significant value
23:48might be buried
23:49as well.
23:51So we need to make sure
23:54we cover all the bases here.
24:11We've got some old boards
24:13down here you might
24:13want to have a look at.
24:14It just came out
24:15of the bank.
24:20What have you got?
24:22We've got some pretty
24:22heavy plank
24:23that just came out
24:24of this after Al
24:25took that last bucket out.
24:27There's three pieces here
24:28and it's in good shape,
24:30but it's old.
24:31You can tell it's old wood.
24:33Yeah, it's thick, yeah.
24:34And there's a nail
24:35right there.
24:37Can you tell?
24:38Round?
24:38It's hard to tell.
24:43It's thick plank.
24:44Like, I think it's
24:45over an inch thick.
24:46Yeah, that would...
24:47not modern, that.
24:48No.
24:49No.
24:49That's old.
24:51They don't happen
24:51to fit together,
24:52do they?
24:53Didn't really look.
24:55Well, you know what?
24:57I think I do see
24:59how this might have
25:00gone together.
25:01Yeah, look at that.
25:02Yeah.
25:03That is a wide board.
25:04You want to build
25:05a chest out of that.
25:06There's your side, right?
25:07Yeah.
25:09But, I don't know
25:10if the key is
25:11that nail you found.
25:12Yeah.
25:13If that's square,
25:14it could be really,
25:15really old.
25:16Could Rick be correct
25:17that this thick wood planking
25:19may have been part
25:20of a structure
25:21in the swamp
25:22and perhaps
25:23a chest of some kind?
25:25If so,
25:27might it be related
25:27to the empty brick
25:29and slate vault
25:29they found several yards
25:31to the south
25:32one year ago?
25:34Or could it be related
25:35to another one
25:36in this area
25:37that might still contain
25:38something of value?
25:41I think we definitely
25:42want to get this one
25:42back to the lab.
25:43Yep.
25:44Have a look at that.
25:45100%.
25:45All right.
25:46Let's hope there's
25:47more in here.
25:47Yeah.
25:48Okay.
25:48The board is
25:5012-plus inches in width.
25:52It also is over
25:53an inch thick,
25:54which is not
25:55modern dimension.
25:56So it could be very old
25:59with a nail
26:00in one of them.
26:01It's a perfect candidate
26:02to bring to Emma
26:03from a metallurgical perspective.
26:06She might be able
26:06to date them.
26:07I hope it does have
26:08answers for the board.
26:12I don't know.
26:13I think we got
26:14something in there.
26:15Something there?
26:16Woo-hoo!
26:19Right here?
26:20Right in there, yeah.
26:21Okay.
26:33We got it.
26:34There we go.
26:38There we go.
26:54I think this is a key.
27:01I think this is a key.
27:04A key?
27:06Well, I think you're right.
27:07It certainly has the shape for it.
27:09In the Oak Island swamp,
27:11Katya Drayton
27:12has just made
27:13a potentially important find.
27:16There's not a nail,
27:17a spike,
27:17or anything like that.
27:18It's got the round head there.
27:20Have we just found
27:21the key to the swamp?
27:23Maybe you found
27:23the key to the swamp.
27:25What did you find?
27:26Now tell me
27:27what you think of that.
27:30Oh.
27:31It rung like iron.
27:33Very heavy.
27:34And it has a look about it.
27:36It is key-shaped.
27:38And it was deep.
27:39Mm-hmm.
27:40The key?
27:41This part would be the key?
27:43Depends on how much is rust
27:44and how much is the actual artifact.
27:47You know how a key,
27:48the old keys,
27:49had the,
27:50at the very end.
27:51Spade-like end?
27:52Yeah.
27:53I think this is the,
27:56like you said,
27:57the spade-like end of the key,
27:58and then right here,
28:00that's where you would
28:01unlock it, unlock it.
28:07Definitely unique.
28:08I want to see
28:09what the CT scan says
28:11about this.
28:13Yeah, I'd like to see that, too.
28:15You want to say it's a key
28:17that's as close
28:17as I can come to something.
28:19Well,
28:20we may have a key here,
28:22and we are not far
28:25from the vault structure.
28:27You've got a potential key.
28:29You've got older wood.
28:31You've got a reference
28:32to the vault.
28:33And I wish we could find
28:35a piece of wood
28:35with a lock.
28:36Yeah.
28:37A possible iron key?
28:39If so,
28:40could Katja be correct
28:42that it may have been connected
28:43to the brick-and-slate vault
28:45that the team uncovered
28:46some 50 yards away
28:47in 2024?
28:50Or could it be
28:51a critical clue
28:52that suggests
28:54the cobblestone path
28:55may be leading them
28:56to another one
28:57in this area of the swamp?
29:00The hope is that
29:04based on what has been found
29:06before that they will find
29:08more of the same types
29:09of structures.
29:10You know,
29:11we talk about the vault
29:13in the swamp.
29:14The probability
29:14of another one existing
29:16in the near vicinity
29:17is probably rather high.
29:19So there's a lot
29:20of interest here,
29:21and there's every hope
29:23and evidence
29:24because of the previous work
29:25that we will find something.
29:28We've got to pay
29:29closer attention now,
29:30right?
29:31Find wood,
29:31you find a potential key.
29:33Lord knows what else
29:34is in here.
29:35The first thing
29:36you conjure up
29:37about a treasure
29:37under is a box
29:38with something inside
29:39with a key
29:40opening it up.
29:41But the cautionary tale
29:43is we don't want
29:44to jump to conclusions,
29:45but it's quite interesting.
29:47Mm-hmm.
29:48That's probably
29:49the most unique find
29:50in this end
29:51of the bog to date.
29:53Cool find.
29:54Right?
29:55Well, let's find the lock
29:56that goes with it next.
29:57Oh, yeah.
29:59Okay, Al,
29:59let's see what else
30:00we can find in here.
30:01As work in the swamp
30:03continues,
30:06later that day,
30:08in the Money Pit area,
30:10Gary Drayton
30:11and Peter Fernetti
30:12are overseeing
30:13the excavation
30:14of the TPF shaft.
30:16We need some spoils.
30:17Yeah.
30:32That doesn't sound
30:34very good.
30:36I'm almost to my limit.
30:42Come on.
30:58It was coming down
30:59and then it stopped dead.
31:00I don't know.
31:01Really?
31:02I'm digging about a meter
31:03and then it's stopping me
31:04and packing me in,
31:05but what are your thoughts?
31:07Carry on?
31:08Keep pushing through?
31:09No, we're stuck.
31:10I can't go any further.
31:13I think it might be stopped.
31:15You're right.
31:16Nothing's happening.
31:17Unfortunately,
31:18with it a snag,
31:19maybe with it a boulder
31:21or an obstruction
31:22in the can.
31:25Hey, Adam.
31:26Hey.
31:27It looks like it's been
31:28pretty stationary
31:29for a while.
31:30What's going on?
31:30Yeah, we're back
31:31to the same kind of layer
31:32we got into.
31:33We're just locked up,
31:34not advancing.
31:35Right now,
31:35we're kind of assessing
31:36what's going on.
31:37We've got to look into it.
31:38Okay.
31:39I'll give my uncles a text
31:40and bring them up to speed
31:42and then we can come up
31:43with a plan.
31:48Hello.
31:49Marty.
31:50All right.
31:51Talk to me.
31:52How's it going?
31:54We're kind of stalled
31:55right now.
31:56Hell.
31:57In the Money Pit area,
31:59Marty, Craig and Scott
32:00arrive after getting word
32:02that the excavation of TPF
32:04has been halted
32:06at a depth of just 20 feet
32:07by backfilled gravel
32:09from a previous dig operation.
32:12So right now,
32:13we're into that
32:14big cobble backfill.
32:16We've locked up
32:17around the liner.
32:18It's pretty tight.
32:19So that's where
32:20we're at right now.
32:21So it's actually
32:22locked right now.
32:23You can't turn it?
32:24It locked up
32:25where we stopped
32:26where we just don't want
32:26to get into breaking
32:27anything or overexerting
32:28anything.
32:29Yeah.
32:30Every hole,
32:31every caisson's been
32:32backfilled with surge rock.
32:34That has created a problem
32:36for the SBC rock team.
32:39My worry, of course,
32:40is that if they just
32:41simply can't find
32:42the way past
32:44this obstruction
32:45that we'll have to
32:46call the hole.
32:46Time is running away
32:48from us
32:49and we want to get
32:50down to death.
32:51Right now,
32:51we're going to rejig,
32:52hopefully get the
32:53oscillator up there
32:54to help us lift up
32:54a little bit
32:55and loosen up.
32:56Yeah.
32:56Okay.
32:57I guess what I'd like
32:59to know is mission.
33:00You know,
33:01is the mission stalled?
33:02We had high hopes
33:03just yesterday.
33:04Is this going to be
33:05a fixable issue?
33:06Because we want
33:07to dig that.
33:08Yeah.
33:09I'm confident that we can
33:10go through there.
33:12And you're going to have
33:12to put your machine on,
33:14Vanessa.
33:15And it's sounding like that.
33:18Yeah.
33:18Yeah.
33:19The oscillator is here.
33:20With that,
33:21you have a lot more
33:22lifting power,
33:23so that's the big difference.
33:25Yeah.
33:25We're just waiting
33:25for a reduction insert.
33:27Reduction inserts,
33:27yeah.
33:28Yeah.
33:29One possible solution
33:31for grinding
33:32the TPF-1 caissons
33:33down through
33:34the gravel-filled ground
33:35is to rotate them
33:37using Rock Equipment's
33:38massive hydraulic oscillator.
33:41However,
33:42in order for the oscillator
33:44to hold
33:44the 8 1⁄2-foot canisters
33:46in place,
33:47it will require
33:48specialized braces
33:49known as
33:50reduction inserts.
33:52When they look like
33:53those parts
33:54are going to arrive.
33:55We have a bit
33:56of logistics issues
33:57with some parts,
33:57so we're waiting
33:58on those.
33:59Okay.
34:00So the reduction inserts,
34:01the trucker broke down
34:02and is on a different track.
34:03I think he'll be here
34:04tomorrow night late.
34:05All right,
34:06so a two-day delay,
34:09right?
34:10Yes.
34:10Can you put the oscillator
34:11on and then wait
34:13for those parts
34:13and those parts
34:14have to be assembled
34:15before you can put
34:15the oscillator on?
34:16No, I can't.
34:17They do have to go
34:18in the oscillator.
34:19What if you put
34:20your oscillator on
34:21and it still doesn't work?
34:23I'm still confident
34:24between the equipment
34:24we have here
34:25that we can get this done.
34:27Well, I mean,
34:27to me,
34:28depending on how long
34:29it would take,
34:30one possibility
34:31would be if this
34:32move over
34:32to the second location.
34:35There's no cobble there.
34:36I don't have
34:37the same concerns
34:38going to where
34:39we're not so much
34:40into that big cobble
34:42that locks up.
34:43Okay.
34:45Rather than waiting
34:45at least two days
34:47for the oscillator parts
34:48to arrive on the island,
34:49an immediate alternative strategy
34:52would be for the team
34:54to pick a second target location
34:56in this area
34:56and begin excavating
34:58a new shaft
34:59in the hopes
35:00that SB Canada's
35:01presently available equipment
35:03won't encounter
35:04gravel backfill
35:05from a previous excavation.
35:08I was in the drilling business
35:09for many years
35:10and you have setbacks.
35:12Things happen,
35:12particularly
35:14on a complex job like this
35:16with all the unknowns.
35:18I know we'll get past it,
35:20but the bigger problem
35:21is time.
35:22That is precious.
35:23At this point,
35:24we're making zero progress
35:26at the money pit
35:26with all this equipment.
35:28So we have to make a decision.
35:30Really, when we're done here,
35:31it's a simple summary, right?
35:32We're looking at a delay
35:33for sure.
35:34Yeah.
35:34Can you check in
35:35on the status
35:36for those parts?
35:37Yeah.
35:37Well, Oak Island
35:38strikes again,
35:39bottom line.
35:41Okay.
35:42You guys do your thing.
35:43Okay.
35:43Okay.
35:43Okay, guys.
35:45While the team
35:46awaits an update
35:47from Rock Equipment
35:48and SB Canada.
35:50In front of us,
35:52we have leather finds
35:53and actually
35:55found one myself.
35:57Rick, Marty, Craig,
35:59and other members
35:59of the team
36:00gather in the war room
36:02to receive
36:03a preliminary
36:03scientific report
36:05on the leather shoe pieces
36:06found in the swamp.
36:08These are,
36:09you felt,
36:10when you looked at them,
36:11they're bits of shoe
36:12or boot leather, right?
36:14Yeah.
36:16It looked to me
36:17like an old design.
36:19A one piece,
36:20it was really elongated.
36:22And I know
36:23that's an older style.
36:25If you remember
36:26when we found these, Rick,
36:28they were in
36:29the deeper material,
36:30the black stuff,
36:31the peat.
36:32So they were
36:33way down there.
36:34Mm-hmm.
36:34Okay, let's do this.
36:36Let's see what
36:36the science says
36:37because we did run
36:39C14 on it,
36:40correct, Craig?
36:41And you have the results.
36:42So let's see
36:42what that says.
36:43Yep, sure do.
36:45It's very interesting.
36:48It's saying
36:48super early.
36:50The biggest time period,
36:52which is
36:521148 to 1216.
36:55Oh, jeez.
36:57No way.
36:57There you go, Rick.
36:59Yep.
37:00Wow.
37:05The biggest time period
37:07is 1148 to 1216.
37:11No way.
37:12There you go, Rick.
37:13Wouldn't that be amazing?
37:14In the Oak Island War Room,
37:16Craig has just shared
37:18an astonishing
37:19preliminary scientific report,
37:21which indicates
37:22the pieces of a leather shoe
37:24found in the swamp
37:25could be
37:25more than 800 years old.
37:28All the other ones
37:29are earlier,
37:30going back to
37:31maybe even
37:331047.
37:35So,
37:36very, very early here.
37:37Darn it,
37:38I've got to get
37:39medieval shoe dunks now.
37:42What's that top date?
37:43What was that bracket?
37:451148 to 1216.
37:47Holy smokes.
37:48I mean,
37:49for what it's worth,
37:50that's the
37:51Gaspani era,
37:52isn't it?
37:52Yeah, it really is.
37:53Absolutely is.
37:54They align perfectly
37:55with what
37:56Professor Gaspani
37:57has articulated to us,
37:59that the construction
38:01of Nolan's Cross
38:03happened
38:04in the 13th century.
38:08So,
38:08the conclusion is
38:09that the Nolan's Cross
38:11is from 1800.
38:12In 2023,
38:15Italian archaeoastronomy
38:16professor
38:17Adriano Gaspani
38:18presented
38:19peer-reviewed research
38:20about the
38:21megalithic formation
38:22of boulders
38:23known as
38:24Nolan's Cross.
38:25According to
38:26the boulders'
38:27historical alignments
38:28with certain stars
38:29in the night sky,
38:31Professor Gaspani
38:32calculated
38:33that the formation
38:34was likely created
38:35in the early 13th century
38:37by members
38:38of the Knights Templar.
38:40You remember,
38:41one of the first things
38:41we ever found
38:42in the swamp
38:43was the paved area.
38:44I mean,
38:44that date is almost perfect,
38:461200s.
38:46And so,
38:47we've been starting
38:48to accumulate dates
38:49in the swamp.
38:50You can't ignore
38:51the growing data points
38:52that are in the 13th century.
38:54We're definitely
38:55looking at a time period
38:56in which the Templars
38:57were at the head
38:57of their power.
38:58Yeah.
38:59Based on this
39:01preliminary Carbon-14 report,
39:03could the team
39:04have found a clue
39:05that may help identify
39:06just who created
39:08Nolan's Cross,
39:09as well as
39:11the vast paved area
39:12in the swamp,
39:13which was uncovered
39:14in 2019
39:15and also scientifically dated
39:18to approximately
39:191200 A.D.
39:22There seems to be
39:23a growing body
39:24of evidence
39:24that a large
39:25work effort
39:27was initiated
39:29roughly at the beginning
39:30of the 13th century.
39:31Now we have artifacts
39:32that reference
39:33that timeline as well.
39:35And that might have been
39:36the point of beginning
39:37of some large-scale,
39:39long-term effort
39:40to do something here
39:41on Oak Island.
39:43Once we've found
39:44this early date,
39:45we've notified
39:46Beta Analytical.
39:47they're going to run
39:49extra cleaning methods,
39:51and once that process
39:53is done,
39:53then they'll go ahead
39:54and retest it again.
39:56Oh, yeah.
39:57Yeah, it's an incredible date,
39:58so I think we would want
39:59to confirm that
40:00by any way we can.
40:02Yeah.
40:02We have to,
40:03as your father said,
40:04duplicate the results.
40:05As Craig has said,
40:06let's make sure
40:07that the data is correct.
40:09But right now,
40:10as I sit here,
40:11I couldn't be happier
40:12about those dates.
40:13Yeah, based on what
40:14we're seeing here,
40:15we're finally moving
40:16in a direction
40:16that could give us
40:17some answers.
40:18So it sure seems
40:19like we're in the right track.
40:21I never argue
40:22with a reason to dig,
40:23ever.
40:24Let's dig.
40:25We have the machinery,
40:26we have the time,
40:28and a treasure
40:28is never going to find itself.
40:30So let's dig.
40:31We got the guy
40:32who can go through the soils.
40:33We got everything we need.
40:34Let's dig.
40:34Let's use your theories
40:35and dig.
40:36Let's use this data
40:36and dig more in the swamp.
40:38I think we're all in.
40:39Sounds like we're doing
40:40the right thing,
40:41and I hope we get good news
40:42in the money pit.
40:43Yeah.
40:43And get back on track.
40:45On that, let's go.
40:47Let's go.
40:47Okay.
40:50Just like the devoted searchers
40:52who came before them,
40:54Rick, Marty, Craig,
40:56and the team
40:56must deal with another
40:58frustrating setback
40:59in the money pit area.
41:02However,
41:03as they uncover new,
41:05surprising clues
41:06across the island
41:07and explore for answers,
41:10no matter what obstructions
41:12stand in their way,
41:13the fellowship of the dig
41:15will never be deterred
41:17by any challenge
41:18they face
41:20because what they may soon find,
41:22whether deep below
41:23or much closer
41:25to the surface,
41:27could forever change
41:29the history
41:30of North America.
41:34next time
41:35on the curse
41:36of Oak Island.
41:37We're getting started.
41:38Oh, yeah.
41:39We're spinning off.
41:40We're due for a little good karma.
41:41We are.
41:42We just have to find
41:43that one thing.
41:44Here we go.
41:45A signal.
41:45Hey, hey.
41:45I should be able to pin pull it.
41:47Oh, look at that.
41:49See if you recognize this.
41:50Wow.
41:51That might have been
41:51an individual
41:52with Masonic ties.
41:53Yes.
41:53Well, that is extraordinarily cool.
41:56All right, here we go.
41:57It's time to lift that rock.
41:58All right.
41:59Here it goes.
42:00Wow.
42:00Look at that.
42:01Yeah!
42:02Ha, ha, ha.
