The president's tariffs and war in in Iran have been sending shockwaves through the Australian economy. But the slashing of the fuel excise has been bringing some much-needed help at the petrol bowser this easter long weekend. Unleaded has fallen for its third straight day, on Friday the average price across the country was $2.29 a litre. Diesel has started to creep back up and on Friday averaging $3.08 a litre but still below its record high from Tuesday. Despite the relief many families were staying closer to home tightened their budgets with fuel front of mind.

00:03An Easter gift worth waiting hours for.
00:08A free fuel giveaway in Melbourne's outer west causing gridlock for drivers stretching back kilometres.
00:15We also encourage people to be sensible, not to take more fuel than you need, to fill up when you
00:21need to,
00:21but not before that and to get as much fuel as you normally would.
00:26Record high fuel prices kept many closer to home over the long weekend.
00:31We were going to go away originally, but I don't think that's the plan.
00:35I think we're just going to stay home.
00:37We love the Sydney Easter Show, but this is actually really good.
00:40Family fun, you know, you don't have to go too far.
00:45And for those who did brave the Sydney Easter Show crowds, stretched transport budgets were front of mind.
00:52It is what it is. I've got to go to work.
00:55I'm spending probably ten bucks a day just in fuel to and from the station, not even to work.
01:00Then the train on top of it.
01:02Also proving to be a good opportunity for a cost of living lesson.
01:07We started at 75 and if we don't behave we get a tick marked out and it takes five dollars
01:12away every time.
01:13So I ended up getting like 65.
01:21The day took a more solemn tone for many others.
01:25With so much division in the world right now, it's wonderful to see communities getting together.
01:29And yeah, I think people should do it more often.
01:32Lovely seeing everyone in the community coming together as one, especially in the time of now where we all need
01:37to come together and pray together.
01:41The faithful filling the nation's churches on one of the most holy days on the Christian calendar.
01:48In Melbourne, groups from all denominations march together through the streets.
01:54Churches which historically over the centuries have been at war with each other have been able to come together and
01:58show their unity in a way which is really what we need to hear at the moment.
02:03Others spent the day on the shore.
02:05It's nice to get out all the busyness and get to somewhere just chillax.
02:11Or in the water with the annual Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.
02:16It's still a popular event. It's an iconic part of the Queensland calendar for Easter.
02:22But for little ones in Hobart, they had to work hard to find their treats.
02:28And I already ate my Easter egg at home.
02:30Many eagerly awaiting the Easter Bunny's visit on Sunday.
02:35Happy Easter!
