00:02Gorgeous!
00:03On today's show, Imprisoned Poultry.
00:06It's pretty much the same as trussing up a person.
00:09I think there are some layers to peel back to here.
00:11I'm really excited to find out what they are.
00:14Baroque bangers!
00:16It took you into that kind of utopia of relaxation.
00:22And table side tellings off.
00:23Stop it, Ambrose. You're very naughty.
00:26I don't think that. Stop trying to bait him.
00:27We haven't seen the real spicy side to her yet.
00:30As five strangers slug it out for a stash of cash.
00:34Let's hear her roar.
00:40It's night two in Sheffield,
00:42where a pioneering new design revolutionised the humble bike rack.
00:47All hail the Sheffield Stand!
00:52Unlikely to be spotted as a sweaty mess clad in lycra
00:55is today's host, high fashion loving law lecturer Sally.
00:59And Cat Boris.
01:00So mommy's going to be cooking all day.
01:03So you're going to be a good boy, aren't you?
01:06I promise nothing.
01:07My friends think I'm high energy.
01:10And my partner thinks I'm extra.
01:12I don't really see myself as that.
01:14I just get really excited and animated about things.
01:17Oh my good God.
01:19Pretty handy with a hockey stick too.
01:21As was property developer Ambrose.
01:24I think it was just the frustration of what we got for our meal.
01:28That was down to last night's host, content creator Lizzie,
01:31who didn't excel with her cold build your own burrito.
01:34Did you warm nut it here?
01:36I wish I did. I wish I did.
01:38Lecturer Lindsay suffered in silence,
01:40but child practitioner Leon was more vocal.
01:43Have you got a microwave that I can warm this up so I can push it off?
01:47Yes. Yes, I have.
01:48If I'm honest, I don't think I'm in with a chance of winning.
01:52Technically you are in the lead after one night with 21 points.
01:57But the guests are expecting big things from Sally.
02:00I'm really excited for her night.
02:02I think it might even be the one to beat.
02:04I really like Sally. I think she's brilliant.
02:07And I think there are some layers to peel back to her.
02:09I'm really excited to find out what they are.
02:11Well, the first layer is definitely furry.
02:13Sorry, Svetlana, coming through.
02:15With Boris and Svetlana safely stored, it's on to the cooking.
02:20My theme for tonight is Old Shanghai.
02:22I chose it because Shanghai food is one of my favourite cuisines of China.
02:27It is a very old and very sophisticated cuisine.
02:31Sally's starter of sophistication is sweet tea.
02:35I have no clue what that is.
02:36I will admit I don't know what zyu-zi is
02:41or whether I'm pronouncing it right.
02:43No. Show us how it's done, Sally.
02:46Zui-ji, or drunken chicken.
02:48She begins by squelching her chicken.
02:51Squelch, squelch, squelch, squelch.
02:53And then stringing them up.
02:55I've never actually trussed a chicken before,
02:57so hopefully it goes well.
02:59It's pretty much the same as trussing up a person.
03:01I thought I recognised you.
03:04Anyway, they're into poach with ginger and spring onion.
03:07I think somebody should talk to her about changing the menu
03:09to something a little bit simpler.
03:12Because this does look very good.
03:14Whatever it is.
03:15A marinade is next with Chinese cooking wine.
03:18It smells a bit like...
03:21...bad wine.
03:22Lovely.
03:23To the smelly wine, she adds goji berries and sugar.
03:28Then plunges her poached poultry prisoners into iced water.
03:32I'm serving it cold, but I don't think that's an issue
03:37because lots of people have cold starters nowadays.
03:40Sounds oriental, so I'm thinking a soup vibe for a starter.
03:44Definitely.
03:45Definitely not.
03:47Smells really good.
03:49Good.
03:50And it's into the fridge to chill till later tonight.
03:54Onto dessert, the almost familiar-sounding manguo boudin.
03:59Mang-guo...boudin?
04:02Hmm, not bad.
04:04I...soothbuffling me.
04:05Mang-guo?
04:07If this was kind of Spanish or French, I would have assumed
04:10that man-guo was mango.
04:14There we go!
04:16Meanwhile, Sally gives her mangoes a good sniff.
04:19You're all pretty ripe, I suppose.
04:21Ooh, that one smells really nice.
04:22Before chopping...
04:24I just think she's gonna be good.
04:26I hate it.
04:28Shake, shake, shake.
04:29Shake, shake, shake.
04:31Shake, shake your booty.
04:33Shake your booty.
04:34Sally takes the shaken booty of coconut milk,
04:37adds sugar...
04:40..and warms before mixing with the mangoes.
04:43Want to see Max Power?
04:44Is there a choice?
04:46I thought not.
04:50It's time to do the milkshake.
04:52Well, that'll learn you.
04:54To her mango-y milkshake, she adds a gelatin and coconut milk melange.
04:59Pouring.
05:01And then strains.
05:03Yeah!
05:03I will clean up these glasses.
05:06I hope so.
05:07OK.
05:08Dun-dun-dun-dun!
05:10And it's inter-set.
05:12Moving on to the main.
05:14Mei-tai-kou-rou.
05:17I do not know what that main is, but intrigued and looking forward to it.
05:21I'm cooking mei-tai-kou-rou, which basically translates to preserved vegetables with pork belly.
05:29Sally begins by frying garlic, ginger, Szechuan pepper, star anise and cinnamon.
05:35Then adds preserved mustard leaves.
05:38Next, the pork, which has been marinated overnight in oyster sauce, soy and sugar.
05:44It smells very porky.
05:46Not a total surprise.
05:47I think she'll be pulling out all the stops to impress tonight, so really looking forward to it.
05:52This is what makes it fancy.
05:55The meat pieces line a bowl, are packed with the preserved veg, and will be turned out later as a
06:01porky centrepiece at the table.
06:03The pork is going to be gelatinous and salty and succulent.
06:10Is pork succulent?
06:12Let's hope so.
06:13I'm definitely thinking a bit of a rice main.
06:18Not a risky guess.
06:20Sally will cook her rice, but later.
06:22Now it's Lizzie's veggie mushroomy main.
06:25You know what this reminds me of, actually?
06:27It reminds me of a savoury version of that British dessert.
06:33You know, where you, like, layer things and make it look all pretty?
06:37Trifle?
06:38I've forgotten the name, actually.
06:39A mushroom trifle.
06:41Lizzie may need convincing.
06:43The main is also served with Chinese tofu salad for all.
06:47And that is it.
06:49Done.
06:50With her prep finished, there's just time to big up Boris.
06:54Oh, he's mad at mommy because mommy's not been playing with you.
06:57Yes, he's mad at mommy.
06:58You have no idea.
07:00When I look at this menu, I see competition.
07:02I'm not gonna lie, it's got me sweating a little bit.
07:04You can take care of that with the correct attire this evening.
07:07Dress to impress.
07:09Okay, this is Sally all over.
07:11We're gonna have to step it up a notch for Sally.
07:14Yeah.
07:15So, I'll try my best.
07:16Let the evening begin.
07:19Exquisite dress, darling.
07:21First to arrive and slightly piratey in pink.
07:24And pearls, it's Ambrose.
07:26Hi!
07:27Good evening.
07:27Good evening.
07:28You look fabulous.
07:30Likewise.
07:31Please come in.
07:32Do you want it straight or do you want a bit of elderflower and rose cordial in it?
07:36Straight for me, please.
07:36Straight.
07:37Amazing.
07:39First time for everything.
07:42Next in and fabulous in future, content queen Lizzie.
07:46Hello!
07:47Oh, my goodness!
07:48Look at you!
07:49Hello, Lizzie.
07:50Hello!
07:51Look at us, Visions in Pink.
07:53Fantastic.
07:54How are you feeling?
07:55I'm good, actually.
07:57Yeah?
07:57Yeah, no, I'm looking forward to it.
07:59What?
07:59Is a puzzle.
08:01Huh?
08:02I didn't understand any of it.
08:03No, me neither.
08:04Not even a clue.
08:05Well, I hope you enjoy the surprise tonight.
08:08Surprise!
08:09Surprise!
08:10Oh!
08:10Here's childcare practitioner Leon.
08:13Wow!
08:13I love it.
08:14How's it going?
08:14I'm fine yourself.
08:15Good, yeah, very good.
08:16Boss man.
08:17You all right?
08:18Yeah, yeah, good, yeah.
08:21Wow.
08:21Look and trim.
08:24I did a few pretzels and sittles before.
08:26Oh, wow.
08:27Oh, yeah.
08:28Yes.
08:29Who are you trying to impress Leon?
08:30Ooh.
08:31I'm not sure you've succeeded.
08:33And last but certainly not least, it's Lecturer Lindsay.
08:37Lindsay!
08:39Hey!
08:39Hello, everybody!
08:42You all right?
08:42Welcome, everyone, to my night, and I hope you have a good one.
08:46We will, I'm sure.
08:48Cheers!
08:49Cheers!
08:49Cheers!
08:50Yeah!
08:51Coming up.
08:51Tights off at the table.
08:53What's happening?
08:54Oh, gosh!
08:55What's going on here?
08:56I thought she was quite cutesy.
08:58When I saw that, I thought, wow, I could not be as wrong.
09:01And Lindsay lays down the law.
09:03I don't want to get on the wrong side of me.
09:05You will hear me roar.
09:07If Ambrose ever takes a little step too far, I think she will be stepping in.
09:18It's night two in Sheffield.
09:20Cheers!
09:21Cheers!
09:23Where style queen Sally is attempting to beat this motley crew to the thousand pound prize,
09:28as well as match her curtains.
09:30I am feeling very excited.
09:32I've never cooked these dishes before, so it will be the first time that I am tasting my own cooking.
09:37Sally finishes her starter by releasing the chickens from their stringy straitjackets before plating up.
09:45Oh, microherbs.
09:46It's just microherbs.
09:48Not exactly a staple, though.
09:54I'm very happy with that.
09:56Go on, then.
09:58Here's the starter.
10:00Sweetie.
10:01With a tofu version for Lizzie.
10:03Oh, wow.
10:04Whoa!
10:05Lovely!
10:09Gorgeous!
10:10Oh, my gosh!
10:11Oh, Sally, Sally!
10:12It's beautiful.
10:13Beautiful presentation.
10:15Mm-mm-mm.
10:16Wow.
10:17Is it supposed to be cold?
10:19Yes.
10:20So, this is sui ji, or drunken chicken, and it is meant to be served either cold or room temperature.
10:29I wonder if Leon's enjoying it or not.
10:31I was expecting a bit of a warm starter, and it kind of threw me off with the cold meat,
10:37but it was nice.
10:40The flavours are really subtle.
10:42It's really nice.
10:43So far, Sally's starter is the best starter.
10:47How's your tofu, Lizzie?
10:49It's stunning.
10:50I don't know how to describe it.
10:51It's really light and fluffy.
10:53I won't lie, I think it looked much better than the chicken thighs, so I think I actually hit the
10:58jackpot with that.
10:59I think the chicken's lovely.
11:01I'm really enjoying the flavours.
11:02Mmm.
11:04I do have string on my chicken, though.
11:06Oh!
11:07But that's fine.
11:08Oh, no, I must have missed that.
11:10It's absolutely fine.
11:10The twine of shame.
11:13I can't believe I missed a piece of twine of Ambrose's chicken.
11:17Of all the plates it could have gone to, it was his.
11:20Obviously.
11:21Ambrose, last night you caught a glimpse of something.
11:24Do you want to see the whole thing?
11:27Up close.
11:27Absolutely.
11:28Yeah?
11:29OK.
11:30Oh, my gosh, I'm nervous.
11:31What's happening?
11:32Mmm.
11:33Oh, gosh!
11:34What's going on here?
11:37Oh!
11:38Oh!
11:38Oh, my God, that's incredible.
11:40Oh, my God.
11:41Wow.
11:41Stunning.
11:41Absolutely stunning.
11:43The tattoo is sensational.
11:45You know, if I could have that framed, I would.
11:47I love it.
11:48Little bit Hannibal Lecter.
11:50I thought she was a girl that was quite calm, cutesy, not really into tattoos.
11:54And when I saw that, I thought, wow, I could not be as wrong.
11:59So, I had it done as a sort of celebration for finishing my PhD.
12:03Oh, I love it.
12:05Yeah.
12:05PhD?
12:06PhD!
12:07Didn't even talk down to Sally.
12:09So, I am a law lecturer at University of Sheffield.
12:13Oh, wow.
12:14Yes.
12:14So, it's the first law lecturer that I know with a great big tattoo on her thigh.
12:21Back at the table and Leon's talking about his tattoos.
12:24I wouldn't have got any until I thought, you know what, I don't care what my dad says.
12:28And they've not really mentioned it since.
12:30You're a big boy now, Leon.
12:32You can do it.
12:33Would that be your final Pinocchio moment?
12:36I'm a big boy now.
12:40Oh, no.
12:41Ambrose.
12:42Oh.
12:43Ambrose.
12:44I am deliberately probing Leon and I want to know who Leon is.
12:49And I think by me just taking the mic, it might push him just to reveal a little bit more,
12:54a little bit more seriousness.
12:56I feel the beginnings of a big bromance coming on.
13:00There's going to be like enemies to lovers kind of trope.
13:02Yeah.
13:02Yeah.
13:02If I could have wished for an older brother, it would probably be like something like Ambrose.
13:06Yeah.
13:06Why have I got to be older?
13:08Well, I mean, you've got more experience, don't you?
13:11I like experience.
13:12I think the dynamic between Ambrose and Leon is kind of a love-hate relationship.
13:17I think they actively love to hate each other.
13:20And it's only night two.
13:23I'm still feeling a bit sore about the twine.
13:26I thought that was a rookie mistake.
13:28Hopefully, I'm going to make them forget that with my mane.
13:33Okay.
13:34Here comes the big baby.
13:37Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to witness the flipping of the pork.
13:43Please, please behave yourself or all of this effort I put was for nothing.
13:50Oh, my God.
13:50Drum roll, please.
13:57Some spillage.
13:58Spillage.
13:59Spillage is fine.
14:00Spillage is fine.
14:01Spillage is fine.
14:01If you say so.
14:03Spillage is fine.
14:04As long as this comes off.
14:06This comes off.
14:07Yes!
14:08Woo-hoo!
14:10Yes!
14:10Look at that!
14:12Woo-hoo!
14:13Congratulations!
14:14Yes!
14:16They've all come out in one piece, and that's all I want.
14:19It's pork dance time.
14:21Before plating up with rice and a tofu salad.
14:25I'm hoping that the presentation will make everybody go...
14:30Oh!
14:31Oh!
14:31Oh!
14:32A large dome of pork with preserved veg and a mound of mushrooms for Lizzy.
14:38Wow!
14:39Oh!
14:40Gorgeous.
14:41It smells absolutely divine.
14:43It smells delightful.
14:58It's delightful.
14:59Thank you so much.
14:59It's really nice.
15:00The rice is fluffy.
15:02The pork is very succulent and sensual, and it's amazing.
15:06Sensual!
15:07Mmm!
15:08That is high praise indeed, coming from you, Leon.
15:10The pork was well cooked, but there could have been a little bit more spice in the pork.
15:17How is the mushroom for you, Lizzy?
15:19I love it.
15:20It's great.
15:21And the flavours, I'm assuming, are very similar to the pork.
15:24It's exactly the same flavours.
15:25Stunning.
15:26She put just as much effort into my very own vegetarian meal, which I appreciate so much from her.
15:32Mmm.
15:32So good.
15:33I love the pork.
15:35The pork's beautiful.
15:35I'm not a massive fan of the tofu salad, I'm not going to lie.
15:38Yep.
15:38I didn't enjoy the tofu salad.
15:41It seemed pointless.
15:42It didn't have any flavour whatsoever.
15:44The rice was nice, with the sauce, and the pork was beautiful.
15:48Can't fault it.
15:50As is the second night, I think it would be great for us to get to know each other a
15:53bit more.
15:54So I have a couple of questions here that will help us do that.
15:57Mmm!
16:00So...
16:01Oh, God.
16:01Who around this table could you be BFFs, best friends forever with, and why?
16:09Ooh.
16:10I think it would be you.
16:12Oh!
16:13Oh!
16:14Let me finish, guys.
16:15I know there is quite a different age gap between us, so I'm hoping you'd live long enough to kind
16:19of make the relationship last.
16:21Oh, God!
16:22Oh, dear.
16:23You were doing so well.
16:24Yeah, you started off so well, Leon!
16:28Are you feeling OK?
16:29No!
16:30Yeah!
16:31I think, yeah, I hope I make it to the end of this evening.
16:34For your sake.
16:35How long do you think she has?
16:37Sometimes I just can't help myself but say things, but a lot of it's light-hearted and all fun, and
16:43people don't take it to heart.
16:44How old did you think she was?
16:46Please, please don't answer that.
16:47Yeah, I know.
16:48You're going to have to now.
16:50Well...
16:50You thought she was about to die.
16:52My mum's late 50s.
16:54Yeah.
16:54And you're quite similar characteristics to my mum.
16:57You thought she was pushing 60.
16:59So, stop it, Ambrose.
17:01I don't think that.
17:02You're very naughty.
17:03I don't think that.
17:03Stop trying to bait him.
17:04I think I just wanted to stick up for Leon.
17:07I just thought he could maybe do with a little bit of help there.
17:11So, I'm old enough to be a mum, so you do bring out the maternal instinct in me.
17:16Yeah, I do feel quite protective.
17:18If I could have any other person than my mother to be a mother figure to me, I would snap
17:22her up.
17:23I think you've blown your chance there, fella.
17:25Oh, yes.
17:26Sometimes you need that wiser head, you know what I mean, to...
17:29What?
17:30Yeah.
17:31We're not wise.
17:32My head's much wiser than Ambrose.
17:34With age comes maturity.
17:36Oh!
17:41Everything made it to the table safely, and my guests loved it, and I have to say, it tasted much
17:46better than I thought it would.
17:47Sally has a surprise for the group.
17:49I do really like surprising people, because I hate for people to get bored of me.
17:55Not possible, surely.
18:00Oh, hang on a minute, though.
18:04I think it should be illegal that she is that smart, that talented, and also has an amazing dress sense.
18:12Well, Lizzie likes it.
18:13Over to you, Ambrose.
18:14Oh, it was boring, wasn't it?
18:16Anything else?
18:17That was it.
18:18It was boring.
18:18Just checking.
18:19Leon's getting into it, though.
18:21There he goes.
18:22It was nice to kind of relax, but also have the build-up and the tension of the chords, and
18:28it took you into that kind of utopia of relaxation, but also good vibes and energy, and I couldn't help
18:35myself but getting up and dancing.
18:37And who can blame you?
18:41Whoa!
18:44That was excellent.
18:47I think my guests loved it.
18:48And I have to say, I quite enjoyed it myself.
18:52With just dessert to go...
18:53Work it!
18:54Burn it off!
18:58Whew!
18:58Time to find out if there is an end to Sally's talents.
19:01I'm going to try to quenelle this cream to make it look nice.
19:06Quenelle.
19:09Quenelle.
19:09I'm not doing this right.
19:11Almost.
19:13And there it is.
19:14Mango pudding.
19:15Wait a minute.
19:16Wait.
19:17Ah, there we go.
19:18Good.
19:19Here you are, Lindsay, my darling.
19:22And here you go, Ambrose.
19:24Wow.
19:26So, this is mango pudding, or...
19:29Mango pudding.
19:30Mango pudding.
19:32You're great!
19:32That's great!
19:33That's great!
19:34So, please enjoy.
19:36Lovely.
19:37Beautiful.
19:40Cautiously optimistic, Leon.
19:42I tried to disguise my disappointment, but the mango was not doing it for me.
19:49No-one would have guessed.
19:54It's stunning.
19:56Really good.
19:57The dessert was lovely.
19:59And it just kind of rounded up the whole meal for me.
20:03Did you sweeten the cream?
20:05No, I did not sweeten the cream.
20:07I really like the mango.
20:08I'm not a fan of the cream.
20:09The cream, to me, just seemed off.
20:12It just seemed really dry.
20:14Ew!
20:14Dry cream!
20:15What do you think, Lindsay?
20:18I absolutely loved it.
20:20Oh, I'm glad!
20:21It was really light, really refreshing, and, yeah, I love mango.
20:27Ambrose, do you feel threatened?
20:30I don't think Ambrose feels threatened by anything.
20:33No!
20:34No, I think...
20:37Here's a question.
20:38Mm-hm.
20:39If you were to name your spirit animal, what would yours be?
20:44It would be a lion.
20:46Ooh!
20:47Yeah.
20:48My hair naturally is curly and like a lion's mane.
20:52I am fiercely protective of my pride.
20:57Yeah.
20:58You don't want to get on the wrong side of me,
21:00because you will hear me roar.
21:02Love it.
21:03Ooh!
21:03Ooh!
21:04Ooh!
21:05We haven't seen the real spicy side to her yet, but I see it in there,
21:10and I think if Ambrose ever takes it a little step too far,
21:14I think she will be stepping in.
21:17I'd like to see more.
21:18I can't wait.
21:20Let's hear her roar.
21:21LAUGHTER
21:23I absolutely loved showing people my bit of crazy side,
21:28bit of whimsical side, and I think they embraced it.
21:30Let's see how cuddly the scores are!
21:33All of the courses were phenomenal.
21:35I really enjoyed it.
21:36I thought Sally took care of me immensely,
21:38but the evening wasn't quite perfect,
21:40so for that reason I'm giving Sally a nine.
21:43I'm going to give Sally an eight.
21:47I thought her presentation was absolutely fantastic,
21:50her flavours were on point,
21:52however I did have string on my chicken,
21:55and I wasn't a massive fan of the salad or the cream,
21:58so for that reason I give Sally a seven.
22:02I'm going to give Sally a nine.
22:05I'm 80% certain that I may have taken the lead.
22:08Then you're 20% wrong because you have taken the lead
22:12after two nights with 33 points.
22:15Woo!
22:16Next time.
22:17Ten out of ten.
22:18Complacent cuisine.
22:19Kind of just used a similar style to an air fryer style.
22:22So you air fried it?
22:23Yeah.
22:23Like dog sick.
22:24And noxious nicknames.
22:26And again, back to the silent word deadly.
22:28You just said his name in a different way.
22:29It still doesn't make it not sound like a fart.
22:32There's definitely code for fart.
22:35Well, come on Sally.
22:38We're gonna dance tonight.
22:41Yeah, come on Sally.
22:43I wanna hold you tight.
22:46We're gonna dance.
22:48We're gonna dance tonight.
22:51Yeah, come on Sally.
22:53I wanna hold you tight.
22:57I love you so...
