00:00The number 10 fastest player of all time, Chris Johnson.
00:08CJ was boom and all of a sudden it's flying and then it was a trap.
00:13It's a big 76 yards!
00:17He's a guy that can go 0-60 like that.
00:21I saw him and then in a glimpse, he was gone.
00:25He would just start to the right hand, one cut and the explosion was there.
00:29He busts out of there and shows that burst.
00:31It was a level of speed that most people were not used to seeing from that position.
00:36CJ to the house!
00:40Chris Johnson literally burst onto the scene at the 2008 NFL Combine.
00:46Everybody remembers watching a seemingly uneventful Combine and then this guy just ran what?
00:534.24.
00:564.24?
00:56I've never seen.
00:58I literally have never seen a time that fast.
01:00Just because I'm expecting you to have a montage of people saying 4.24.
01:044.24.
01:05That's going to reverberate.
01:064.24.
01:07I want to be in the 4.24 montage.
01:104.24?
01:11Wow.
01:124.24.
01:15No one really knew what Chris Johnson was going to be in the pros.
01:17And then he goes on to have one of the greatest seasons a running back's ever had.
01:21In 2009, Johnson became only the sixth running back to gain 2,000 yards, earning him the nickname...
01:29CJ2K.
01:30CJ2K.
01:31CJ2K.
01:32That's so cool.
01:33Chris Johnson has just went into history.
01:36There's only one running back today.
01:38The general has spoken.
01:39I thought Chris Johnson was rated too low.
01:41Believe that.
01:42He had his year and I don't think I've ever seen a player as explosive.
01:49There was no 2nd gear.
01:51There was no 3rd gear.
01:52There was a handoff.
01:53And there was 6th gear.
01:55He's getting the 10th.
01:56He's getting the 20th.
01:57He's getting the 20th.
01:58You couldn't stop him.
01:59It was just 80 yard runs every day.
02:00I don't play fantasy football, but if I did, I would be pretty upset if I didn't have
02:04Chris Johnson on my team that year.
02:06Exactly.
02:07Chris Johnson was amazing in his prime and I think his prime was just way too short.
02:13Chris Johnson was so fast, you missed his whole career.
02:16Johnston was like lightning in a bottle and only ranks number 10 on our list.
02:22Once he had that 2,000 yard season and everyone called him CJ2K, it was almost like a curse
02:28because his numbers just gradually went down and down and down and down.
02:32He's a forgotten guy in I guess the lore of NFL.
02:37He was the fastest to get to 2,000, the fastest to be forgotten I think as well.
02:41Yup.
02:44The number 9 fastest player of all time.
02:47I'm Michael Vick.
02:51That's too...
02:52Mike Vick should be higher on this list.
02:54That is bad stuff.
02:56Because he's a quarterback.
02:58He's not supposed to be fast.
03:00There are very few quarterbacks who can run like that.
03:04That's one of the things that that's a little bit of a gray area.
03:06Are we considering him fast because he wasn't quarterback?
03:09Was he just a fast guy?
03:11Look at the speed.
03:12It speaks for itself.
03:15He was a fast guy.
03:16Michael Vick's arrival in the NFL turned the league upside down.
03:21Instantly, he became the must-see attraction in pro football.
03:27When Vick came out, that was one more thing you had to defend against that you didn't have to worry
03:31about with Peyton Manning or Tom Brady.
03:33There are many things, ladies and gentlemen, that the brilliant Peyton Manning can't do.
03:39You can't do that.
03:41You gotta make that guy look foolish, huh?
03:46There's no way a quarterback should actually be faster than the receivers he's throwing the ball to.
03:53It was like a human joystick.
03:54I mean, when you saw him move around, no one had an answer then.
03:58And it seemed like he was like a video game character out on the field.
04:02Mike Vick faking out everybody.
04:04He was so quick.
04:05He was basically a blur.
04:08You see that smoke coming off a light big shoe?
04:10He would accelerate so fast that you would think that he might be able to fly.
04:15Number seven starts to tear that jersey off and there's a big S underneath it.
04:24A game where he had 173 yards rushing, that was ridiculous.
04:30Look at the speed and the running ability of Michael Vick.
04:34Look at that.
04:34Look at that.
04:36It was a run in overtime that secured Vick's spot on our list.
04:41Pass away.
04:42Inside the 40.
04:44Inside the 20.
04:46Vick.
04:47Into the end zone.
04:48Falcons win in overtime.
04:49A 46 yard run where he slices through an entire NFL defense in overtime to win the game.
04:57The quarterback.
04:58Unbelievable.
04:59Look at that.
05:00Michael Vick with a remarkable scramble.
05:02The almost inhuman speed.
05:08He's playing the fastest, scariest guys in the world.
05:11And he makes them look like they're standing still.
05:15It makes everybody else look like they've got more asses in their shoes.
05:19I tackled him one time and I thought I won the Super Bowl.
05:22Kirk Morris in the middle linebacker comes in to make the tackle.
05:26Vick had 64 rushes of 20 or more yards.
05:30He had 4 rushes of 50 or more yards.
05:32Look at him go!
05:34What a superstar!
05:36Now think about that for a quarterback.
05:37He had the outrun guys who were downfield waiting for him.
05:40And he was still ripping up 20 yard, 50 yard runs consistently.
05:43Those legs made him such a threat to go every time that, you know,
05:48when he was dialed in he was as dangerous as anybody that's ever played.
05:53The number 8 fastest player of all time, Joey Galloway.
05:58Oh!
05:59Oh!
06:00Yeah!
06:01I forgot about that guy.
06:02People don't know about him.
06:03That's old school phase.
06:05I think Joey Galloway got overlooked a lot because of a lack of flamboyance.
06:10Just a pure, fast receiver.
06:13And he played the position that way.
06:15Caught!
06:16It's a 40!
06:17Galloway!
06:17Footless to the 30!
06:18He wants more!
06:21Joey Galloway, under the radar, played for a bunch of teams.
06:24Not the loudest guy.
06:25Not the biggest look at me guy.
06:26No dancing in the end zone.
06:28But look around the media landscape right now.
06:30Joey Galloway's on TV.
06:31Some of those guys, they're not.
06:33Joey Galloway!
06:34Would you believe it?
06:35Hmm.
06:39I think it's a little bit of an injustice to put Joey Galloway as far down as 8.
06:43Yeah, Joey Galloway.
06:44An absolute burn.
06:48Joey Galloway!
06:50There was a time in the late 90s where people didn't want to play against Joey Galloway.
06:54I mean, we talk about Hail Marys.
06:56Just chuck it up blindly and Joey Galloway is going to catch it.
06:59Whether he's in the stadium or already outside of that.
07:03Huh.
07:04That's a great example of the commodity that's been seen in the NFL.
07:08Because the Cowboys gave up two first round picks to get him from the Seahawks.
07:13It turned out it was a bad trade for the Cowboys and he did not have the career that Jerry
07:18envisioned.
07:19But it was purely that speed that cost the Cowboys a lot of draft picks for a player who turned
07:24out wasn't that good at that part of his career.
07:28While our number 8 was a bust in Big D, he was reborn with the Bucs.
07:3569 yards, one play, touchdown Tampa Bay!
07:38Even when he was old, he was fast.
07:41He's number one.
07:43Joey Galloway!
07:44He was absolutely productive and he embodied speed.
07:49Man, he could run and he could run pretty much faster than anybody at his position.
07:54I mean, he was probably one of the NFL's fastest players, if not the fastest player in the NFL in
07:59his days.
07:59Out by the Cardinals!
08:03The number 7 fastest player of all time, Cliff Branch.
08:08He is top 5.
08:10Cliff Branch may be the best deep threat of the 1970s.
08:14Ken Stabler triggered the feared Raider bomb to number 21, Cliff Branch.
08:19Who doesn't like to see a wide receiver wearing 21, man?
08:22Cliff Branch, whose style is a flash of light, a puff of smoke, and gone.
08:28Yes, sir.
08:31Cliff Branch, anytime you caught a ball, you pose, you go, Cliff Branch, and you take off running.
08:37Cliff Branch arrived in Oakland in 1972.
08:40By the middle of the decade, our number 7 speedster was getting behind the defense with such regularity.
08:46He's already over 30 here.
08:48He's already 32 here.
08:49Or something.
08:5031.
08:51Look at his play.
08:53Look at his play.
08:54The Raiders created a warning sign for visiting teams.
08:58Cliff Branch was the first NFL wide receiver that, when he played, we first saw those signs in the end
09:05zone.
09:05Speed kills.
09:07He's going to catch long bombs.
09:11He's not going to be catching the 4-yard outs or something like that.
09:14Cliff Branch is going long.
09:16Throwing a deep bomb, going to Branch against Livers.
09:19Livers knocks it down.
09:20Branch catches it!
09:22Touchdown Raiders!
09:23It wasn't only the speed.
09:24It was also the ability to go get the ball.
09:27Throwing air down.
09:28Here's the deep for the Branch.
09:30Big, deep.
09:31He made it!
09:33And there's Cliff Branch.
09:39What does he do?
09:44Branch was a three-time all pro.
09:47And in 1976, he averaged an amazing 24.2 yards per reception.
09:54if we're going by who is the fastest in their time in their era the fastest it was possible
09:59to be for an nfl player i think cliff branch has to be in the top five
10:03he won the 100 meter yard dash for the ncaa championships in 72
10:18he had good speed but on the football field he was probably a lot faster he would be if you
10:22find them at o'clock even modern sprinters are only about 11 100ths of a second faster than cliff
10:35branch was in 1974 branch had a 99 yard touchdown catch in 1983 against the redskins
10:49he was 30 he's probably the oldest 99 yard touchdown scorer he's five years old that's
10:57curtis jordan number 22 running behind him 29 year old player and he can't even keep up with cliff
11:03branch that was cliff branch at 35 now how fast was cliff branch at 25
11:16if you're talking about pure speed he's way too low on the list great speed but not the kind that
11:21was all inspiring um willy gulf definitely belongs there he was fast would scare the daylights out of
11:28corners he absolutely deserves a spot on this list perhaps higher but too often if you were a bears
11:39fan he made you feel a little sick in the belly because he dropped perfect passes
11:45split end willy gulf is an exciting weapon used mostly for kickoff returns look at that speed
11:51before the pros our number six was both an explosive college player and a world-class sprinter
11:58talking like jesse owens he was out there like you know one of the the top-notch beasters he would
12:05have been on the 80 olympics had the united states not boycotted that year was on the bobsled team so
12:12this guy was like ridiculously well-rounded it's a big difference between running track and playing
12:17wide receiver in the nfl willy gulf was one of the few guys who could make that transition
12:31as chicago's first round draft pick in 1983 gulf brought a new dimension to the ground and pound bears
12:46willy gulf was the only viable pass catcher for those mighty chicago bears of the mid-80s and on
12:52a team that had walter payton on a team that had other pieces to it offensively he provided that
12:58balance willy gulf is not the first name that you think of obviously with that team of superstars
13:03he was probably one of like the biggest unsung heroes of that team it's worth noting if you go
13:08back and look at the big games that the bears played and he did have a knack for getting behind
13:13the defense once or twice a game and he did score some touchdowns in big games for them
13:26willy gulf was fast um he wasn't a great receiver his hands were awesome and apparently he and uh
13:36mcmahon in jim mcmahon's book there was a little uh a little tension he had uh worn out his welcome
13:43in chicago now for the second act of willy gulf's career
13:56that was the golden age of the aldeos vertical offense where we're going downfield we're throwing
14:01bombs he wanted the ball thrown deep and willy gulf in his prime may have been the fastest
14:07if you don't stop the ball you don't stop the ring even in retirement gulf hasn't stopped running
14:19look at the there's masters track and field for older track and field stars really gulf still
14:24dominates his times still like like something that if you went out and did a 40 yard dash in
14:28the combine he wouldn't be one of the five slowest guys that's guaranteed
14:32and now the number five fastest player of all time bo jackson ah yeah trying to get around the left
14:40side there's too much of humanity there he reverses coming back to the right what made bo a great athlete
14:51wow it's a logical play it's a good race will anybody catch it but where do you start
14:57extraordinary two sports star bo jackson number 34 just three weeks after baseball ripped off 45
15:04yards bo is just like i want to do this i'm gonna do it i want to do that i'm
15:09gonna do that he was a freak
15:10holy toledo he's probably the greatest athlete in the history of this country he might be the
15:18greatest athlete in the history of the world maybe you can't tell the story of professional football
15:24without having bo jackson in that list as the 1985 heisman trophy winner bo jackson was destined for the
15:34nfl came in and made an immediate splash when he came to the raiders his coming out party was against
15:41seattle after linebacker brian the boss bosworth dished him in the media he stole brian bosworth's
15:50manhood at the goal line the best bo jackson ever is the touchdown where he runs forever and then runs
16:02like right into the locker room turns it up to the 10 15 up outside the 20 he's at the
16:0730
16:08he was actually gaining speed after 100 yards you can't tell me that bo jackson didn't arrive on
16:18earth naked in a blue ball of lightning man was a terminator
16:22huh
16:27hard speed you felt that he was punishing the ground as he ran
16:33bo jackson wasn't just fast he was like superhuman strong
16:37it was like he was running a carpool for defenders like hey bo you going to the end zone
16:42yeah bo was like 230 he's the biggest player on this list he shouldn't have been that fast
16:48yeah okay we're gonna hop on your back and you can just carry us in there
16:51bo jackson was too big to be that fast but if he ever got in the open field
16:57what i always was amazed by were the helpless defensive backs
17:01what a dynamic explosive drive by bo jackson
17:07like the mike harden play he would run right through mike harden
17:11and like he never lost a step and then he would get back to full speed right away
17:17growing up in missouri i saw bo jackson destroy the chiefs on like a yearly basis
17:28you're saying hey i need a superman call central casting bo jackson walks in in the late 1980s
17:35jackson was an nfl cultural icon his legend has almost become mythical
17:42you can tell me he's the first x-men character i'd be like yeah he's pretty fast he's the one
17:46that's
17:47speedy and you can't see him when he moves and in the emerging video game world he was simply
17:54unstoppable unstoppable unstoppable you cannot stop bo jackson
17:58tecmo bowl you got a madden and all that now but that's the original that's the godfather
18:04you can pitch it to bo jackson and you sweep left and you spin him around and running right up
18:08the
18:08middle like marcus allen did today you can't stop that play it's unstoppable
18:15it was like a flash of light it was on and it was off ultimately jackson only ranked number five
18:22on
18:22our list because his career was cut short by injury after only four seasons it's sad because
18:30what might have been is one of the great runners of all time as much as he gave on that
18:36show ever
18:36you can only imagine what he would have gave you healthy bro jackson might have been a shooting
18:42star what's faster than a shooting star not much exactly
18:49the number four fastest player of all time randy moss
18:55what's up football world 84 here when i think of randy moss three words come to mind
19:00the nfl was so unprepared
19:30for randy moss's combination of size and speed that the vikings were actually able to run a play
19:37over and over again called randy go and get it this guy is amazing the camera would follow the
19:44ball and as it went up we just start going randy until it landed in his hands we knew it
19:52was going
19:53him anytime the ball went above the plane of the screen he was the freakiest dude i think i've ever
20:10seen they call me the freak man his speed just scared the hell out of people don't be scared of
20:15me i ain't
20:15gonna bite you i'm just gonna hurt you the moment when you realized he really was freakish as an
20:20athlete was the game he had on thanksgiving at dallas in 98. he just destroyed the cowboys i think
20:32he had only had three catches that day but all of them were for at least 50 yards our number
20:38four
20:39speeds were finished with three catches for an astounding 163 yards
20:51even when he was with the patriots and he's 65 years old he's got a beard longer than
20:56you know like rip van winkle and he's still out running cornerbacks and catching touchdowns i
21:02mean he's incredible here's an out down field randy moss is there and he has it three guys around him
21:14i don't know if i put him in the top 10. to me randy moss was an incredible receiver
21:19a first ballot hall famer but not a top 10 burner i mean if you look at him he's already
21:26down the field
21:27so how fast can you be to run the extra 20 yards moss deserves the spot on our list just
21:34look at the
21:35tape watching a secondary as they lined up against randy they would be backed off sometimes you know
21:4210 yards with the corner and sometimes 25 with the safety they really played an awful randy moss and he
21:49is still outrun both guys it's very hard to read how fast a guy like randy moss is actually running
21:59so fluid i mean a guy looked like he wasn't even breaking a sweat randy moss could be the fastest
22:05player in the nfl it wasn't so much off the line of scrimmage as it was once he got going
22:11there are guys that are quicker at the line of scrimmage than randy moss was once he got into that
22:16second gear goodbye he's gonna go he's 35 30 25 20 15 10 five touchdown he was awesome
22:29fastest player of all time deon deon sanders
22:34oh i know he's mad about that deon sanders has to be higher
22:38he's just phenomenal he's prime time he's not above bob haze or uh daryl green
22:47i heard deon race the flash and won you check your sources on that one i think that may be
22:53true
22:56no player on our list makes speed look better than deon sanders
23:04tell me who else could race down the sidelines with the football with other people angling over
23:12to try to stop him while showboating and the deon shuffle follows the last thing you ever wanted deon
23:21sanders to do was intercept your pass he sets he throws to the sideline it's intercepted by
23:26deon sanders because not only was he probably going to take it to the house but he was going
23:32to tell you about it too he's just like having fun with it so he's like looking he's kind of
23:39like
23:39doing the little stutter step i mean guys you know mimic it now there's his trademark
23:53and as a return man you could just put him in the hall on that alone let's return it wait
23:5921 21
24:01because once he got the ball he's gone he had this uncanny ability to make the first guy miss
24:07and then find the scene and then no one can catch it our number three speedster amassed over 7 800
24:15all
24:16purpose yards and scored 22 touchdowns ah i don't know why the kick to him i wouldn't kick to him
24:22put
24:22it out of bounds the only thing actually faster on deon sanders than his legs his mouth
24:33i'll probably have his mouth if it's faster than his legs for sure
24:38it was always a big event of deon sanders came into the room
24:43he's all entertainer too i'll tell you that he just had this mc hammer thing about him
24:51all he needed were the pants and it was hammer time he was hanging out with sanders sealed his
24:57spot on our list before he was even drafted into the nfl the story goes deon sanders got off the
25:03plane at the airport and walks into the stadium a bunch of people around the league told me watch out
25:10this kid's gonna run lights out runs his 40 runs it in like 4 2 you know something 4 2
25:16wow is our
25:18unofficial time tips his cap to all the scouts goes outside gets back in the same car that dropped
25:24him off and goes right to the airport he should be number one on a list of the nfl's best
25:33jerry curls
25:33that jerry curl has to be heavy i think the secret to deon sanders speed is his activate the jerry
25:40curl juice coming down with the sweat i'm pretty sure like that that had to be a problem i'm pretty
25:45sure he didn't address it because he was you know worried about his appearance but i couldn't do a
25:51jerry curl deon would play with a couple chains on and the jerry curl and i think he probably had
25:57sunglasses in there as well and he was still dustin fools the number two fastest player of all time bob
26:05hayes yeah
26:14fastest man in the world dance runs like an express train faster than a speeding bullet and that was bob
26:21hayes but with bob hayes bob hayes is a football player who just happens to be the world's fastest
26:28living human hayes goes down in his chief as a trailblazer was ahead of his time was probably that
26:34first unique burner hayes had the race in his pocket he left the starting blocks hayes was the only athlete
26:41to win both an olympic gold medal and the super bowl ring with the dallas cowboys they were a team
26:48that thought outside the box before the rest of the league even knew there was a box they dragged
26:54for bob hayes feeling that he could be a dynamic wide receiver and in fact he was a wide receiver
26:58to change the game
27:00sophisticated varied and quick striking he personified the dallas offense
27:05a guy who looks like he could play today he was as ahead of his time as a jim brown
27:14hayes is the leader of football's jet set and just about everything he catches turns into points
27:22hayes was an immediate sensation in his first two seasons he led the nfl in receiving touchdowns
27:29you know he was a new element to the nfl with his great speed punt returns kickoff returns
27:37bob hayes could play he could break tackles he could catch the football and he might have been
27:42the greatest deep threat the game has ever known growing up a giants fan you watch bob hayes and you
27:49feared every single time he touched the ball that he was going you know 75 yards pro football has not
27:56eroded his olympic speed in fact hayes claims that every year he gets even faster
28:04in fact in 1970 and 71 he led the league with an astonishing average of 25 yards per catch
28:12considering those numbers and that yards per catch average
28:18today we would be saying greatest ever the greatest we've ever seen
28:24i saw they are safely over but he came back in
28:31the game ultimately hayes reached number two on our list because of his impact on the game
28:37you always talk about players who revolutionized the game that was bob hayes he made defenses adjust
28:43that's the thing i like about hayes called the zone defense the zone defense was installed in football
28:49because bullet bob hayes was faster than any defensive back that you could put on him so they had to
28:53put a
28:54his own matchup in the corners played off of him so far he basically invented the quick screen
29:02now you're talking about innovation so you're talking about speed transcending the game just
29:07between the lines but also in the coaches minds that goes a long way
29:16we should be number one who's faster than bob hayes i was a world's fastest human he's number one
29:23there's no doubt bob hayes is bullet bob hayes is number one who's faster than him
29:27what he did back then that he should probably be number one not number two number two this is hysterical
29:35his speed obviously was a thing that got him into the nfl it's the thing that made him a hall
29:40of famer
29:42unfortunately hayes passed away before he was finally voted in
29:47i'm sorry it took so long for bob hayes to get in the pro football thing because there's not many
29:53players you can say changed the game when he played and it still played that way today
30:01the number one fastest player of all time darryl green
30:09darryl green you should have known darryl green um yeah i couldn't argue that oh come on i mean how
30:16many gold males going gal green have bullet bob should be number one for it
30:21they gotta sway on the list they're gonna sway on the this man not darryl green
30:28two things were true of darryl green throughout his entire career one he was always the fastest
30:33guy in the league and two it felt like he was always the oldest guy in the league
30:38darryl green is number one on our list because he was so fast for so long forever
30:51i just don't get this guy i mean i i was with him my rookie year he was like 48
30:57years old or
30:57something crazy and he was still unbelievably fast
31:06he'll agree right now would probably be like the eighth fastest corner in the nfl
31:13the secret to his fleet feet may have been in his sweet tooth
31:24i don't i don't agree with that statement sorry i got a two tootsie roll by the day you play
31:29with the
31:30tootsie roll in his sock who does that i got a double tootsie roll and the big ones the jumbos
31:37it's a jumbo day bigger how do you ask a grown man in the locker room for a tootsie roll
31:43oh i think
31:45i found one let me show you a lot of tootsie rolls get you because i don't mean about that
31:50you see that
31:55the one play that made everybody go wow who is this guy was in a monday night game against
32:03the cowboys he told dorsett takes the hand off hits the line gets through that second level of the
32:08defense daryl grain comes from out of the picture runs into your picture past two redskins that are
32:19chasing dorsett he runs right past them and catches him from behind dorsett gets up and looks like
32:26what wait wait what what just happened only one man on the field but catching daryl green
32:32the world-class spinner from texas a.i i had a run when i broke i knew he was coming
32:42i said i know he's back there somewhere and he called me
32:49you catch me you catch me i'm never i'm never running looking over my shoulder looking back that's
32:55not me his signature play is he should have he could have stiff-armed daryl green into the dust
33:02but you know turn against the bears
33:23he's in his ribs and still did that
33:30that's some speed right there because he's probably running at 60 percent at that point
33:35and still nobody could catch it
33:41daryl green did finish number one but that doesn't mean the race wasn't close
33:48number one's got it daryl green has to be number one he told you he was the fastest guy on
33:53the field
33:53and he shoved it down your throat yeah yeah whoo why you didn't move me i was the fastest kid
33:59in my
34:00neighborhood i'm the fastest kid in my elementary school i was the fastest kid in my college the
34:04fastest kid in my conference daryl green was fast and he played fast but if bob hayes
34:09raced daryl green there's not a chance in hell that daryl green is being bob hayes none he did win
34:15like
34:15nfl's fastest man every year for a few straight years didn't he daryl green is the fastest guy in
34:22the nfl and he proved it better daryl green was pretty impressive and perhaps he was somebody
34:28who could have gone out and won a gold medal but you know what he didn't i guess the only
34:33way we would
34:34ever know who really was the fastest player in nfl history was if daryl green ever got to cover
34:39bullet bob hayes when both of them were in the front that would have settled the argument and
34:48that would have been a sight to behold
