00:04It is tough. I mean, it looks beautiful on TV. It looks beautiful in person. It looks great.
00:09And then you get up there and you're actually looking at the lie. You're like, this is not this is
00:13not what I want.
00:15I mean, that's there's a reason why it's so hard to get up and down around Augusta.
00:18And you always watch on TV and you're like, how did that guy just hit that chip shot?
00:22You know, just hit a nice little spinner up there. But it is. I mean, it's into the grain.
00:28Everything gets mowed into you. And it's tough. I mean, they make it really, really hard in every aspect.
00:34And honestly, that's one of the places where I think a lot of people do add bounce to their wedges
00:40just because it is, you know, it's it's easy to kind of duff a chip out there, to be honest
00:45with you.
00:45So, yeah, it's they make it really tough around there. And yeah, all the best you can have is nice
00:54to add.
00:55I just want to kind of talk about like two specific chip shots right of 11.
01:00If you ever go to Augusta National on a practice round, you'll see guys chipping right of 11 for for
01:06five to eight minutes while they're just trying to figure out how that first bounce is.
01:10If you're going to play the bump shot or, hey, maybe my wife's good enough to kind of open the
01:14face and play a spinner here.
01:15And then you also go, let's say, long or right of the six screen when that pin is up top
01:21on top right of that shelf.
01:23Similar type of shot where it's so quick when the golf ball finally gets on the green that if your
01:31why is is not that great or if it even if it is good,
01:35just talk about the indecision and the challenge that you have on on chip shots like this at Augusta National.
01:43Yeah. I mean, like you just said, the greens, once it gets on the green, it's so fast.
01:47But everything until it gets to the green is so slow.
01:50You know, every time when you hit a bumper, it's just it checks in there so, so hard.
01:54And and it changes so much even depending on when you're playing.
01:59Like if you just had a little bit of rain, that thing is skipping through through the first to the
02:02fringe.
02:03Wow. If if it's an afternoon and it's, you know, it's just the perfect day, it's going to be grabbing
02:11pretty hard.
02:12So you'll see people all week just chipping around the greens, you know, different times a day,
02:18just trying to get a feel for for how the ball is going to react because there's such a contrast
02:22in in speed from the fringe to the green.
02:26And that's one of the things that makes it so hard to get up and down around that place.
02:30Does anybody ever really figure out Augusta National like fully?
02:34I don't think so. You know, I think once you think you've got it figured out, it probably would Bryson
02:40say about shooting.
02:41It's a part 68 or something and didn't break that score until years later when he was in contention last
02:46year.
02:47So it's just one of those places where when you're feeling good and you're playing well, it just feels like
02:52you make so many birdies.
02:53And then the next day you go out there and all of a sudden it just feels like there's no
02:57you just grind in for parts.
02:59So it's one of those places that when you're uncomfortable or you're just off a little bit, it makes you
03:05it makes you really try to figure out how to get a ball in the hole.
03:08Gosh, I mean, it's it's it's a place that if you can find 14 or 15 greens, you're just like,
03:13man, let's just can we just have like a chill round here to Gus National, a stress free round?
03:19Because that's a lot of fun. When you get in some bad spots out there, you're just like, gosh, yeah,
03:24there's nothing better than going around Augusta flushing it, because if you're flushing it, you know, you're going to have
03:29birdie putts and that's fun.
03:31It's so much fun to play that place when you're hitting it good. But when you're not hitting it good,
03:34you're going to get punished.
