00:00great chuck morgan uh chuck bobby slandering the barbecue there saying alabama barbecue is better
00:05i don't know about that good morning chuck how we doing happy opening day
00:09well i gotta tell you rj i know this is gonna this probably upset you a little bit but uh
00:14you know my son my oldest son played he was a catcher at alabama for three years and
00:20man dreamland barbecue there we go there we go yeah dreamland rj if you go to if you go to
00:28you
00:28and bobby need to go to dreamland sometime and you'll find a dollar bill with the autograph by
00:33me on the wall there because there's thousands of them but anyway no i great to be with you all
00:38today well uh it's always great to have you on we love having you know we try to have you
00:42on every
00:42opening day uh because it is uh it is it's one of 162 it doesn't you know in the grand
00:49scheme of
00:49things mean a whole lot but it does mean a whole lot at the same time to baseball fans and
00:54and it
00:54probably never gets old for you but what are some you know like take us through what some of the
00:59new
00:59things that we're going to see at the ballpark this year uh from you know even the food items or
01:04to even just the the game day presentation you know uh the the thing about the the game day
01:11presentation one of the things that that you know we're looking for and uh we're gonna we want a lot
01:16of energy in the ballpark we want these players to know that we're behind them we want all the fans
01:21to know that we're we're all for texas so we're going to focus on getting the crowd to make a
01:27lot
01:27of noise and reward those rangers with a lot of noise after they do something big and things like
01:31that and of course the food's always good with ortado barbecue out here and all of the folks at
01:36delaware delaware north they do a great job with all that and i you know the only one i wonder
01:41about
01:41that sombrero with all those nachos in it i saw pictures of that yesterday i don't know i don't
01:46know about that one but uh now everybody's going to come out here and have a good time but uh
01:50you know
01:51rj being a baseball fan uh as long as i have uh you know there's just nothing better than opening
01:57day and you know i tell everybody there'll be a little kid out here today you know like i was
02:0360 years ago and you'll see something today that you'll probably remember the rest of your life and
02:09that you were there for opening day to see that so it's uh it's a special day chuck you know
02:14it's it's
02:14one of those things where whenever teams move into a new ballpark or a new arena or whatever else
02:19there's always kind of that initial like museum feel to it right like you walk in and you're like
02:24this is new this doesn't feel lived in yet i was a game last year and i was starting to
02:28feel a little
02:28bit like all right this is it's starting to to feel a little more like home it's it's not starting
02:33to
02:33feel as new have you started to get the sense like the the crowd has started to settle in the
02:37last year
02:38or so of just like hey this ballpark feels like it's it's getting a little bit of its character now
02:42you know bobby i i do and i i think one of the things that uh helped that i mean
02:48it always helps
02:49to win and i think that year in 2023 you know when you had the the alcs games here and
02:57we were playing
02:58houston and and we've had playoff games here and you know there's there was that one game against
03:03baltimore in the in the playoffs where the crowd re uh rewarded nathan avaldi with one of the greatest
03:11greatest ovations and and kind of thanks for a great effort that i've ever seen in rangers history
03:18i've seen juan gonzalez get curtain calls and and nolan ryan of course but that that uh the how loud
03:25that was for reovaldi was just unbelievable that's one of my favorite moments but i think i think winning
03:31helps that and and uh you know the other thing we really want folks to feel at home and uh
03:37when they
03:38come here and and uh that uh like i said before we're all for texas you know chuck and we're
03:43talking
03:43with chuck morgan here on 105 through the fan rangers home opener later today against the cincinnati
03:47reds uh you know we a lot of times the i think opening day is probably the game that's going
03:53to
03:53have the largest percentage in the crowd of any game that year of like this is somebody's first
03:59baseball game because it's just it's such an easy target date um so for somebody walking in there
04:03today and what what are you saying to somebody who's you know running the events and things what
04:08what are some do's and don'ts you think for crowd participation that you think people should really
04:12be locked into if this is their first game at the ballpark today uh you know as far as uh
04:18uh you know
04:19i i just want them to enjoy the experience and uh you know when something big happens uh get behind
04:25those rangers you know you see a great you get two strikes on the the batter let the mckenzie gore
04:30know
04:31that there's uh 40 000 people behind him and we're right with him and you know when cory seager
04:36gets that double and drives in a couple runs let him know you like that just stuff like that i
04:41don't
04:41know if i have any don'ts i know i don't know there's a lot of rules that we all have
04:45to follow
04:45these days but uh you know just have a great time and enjoy uh enjoy the rangers coming out and
04:51playing
04:52some baseball and and it really helps bobby that we're off to this uh this good start the way they
04:57played on the road and you know i really like uh watching uh brandon nimmo play yeah yes that's
05:03another thing i think bobby that fans ought to really uh enjoy is watching him play and then
05:08for all of us to get to watch andrew mccutcheon every day now that's uh that's that's pretty good
05:13treat chuck uh you know take me through your perfect day do you like a day baseball game cool
05:22weather roof open or night baseball game cool weather roof open you know i'm i'm more of the
05:31haven't been here a long time i'm a veteran of a lot of night games because back in the day
05:37it used to get so dang hot you know we even i don't i know if y'all remember you
05:42may not be old
05:43enough to remember this but back at arlington stadium we had that grandfather clause where we
05:48could play night games on sunday night and still be televised because that was espn's night for a
05:54long time so we could we could play night games on uh uh on sunday nights but you know you
06:01know rj
06:02that's hard for me to answer because i'm such a baseball fan i i love the ball game so i
06:07just if
06:08it's if it's at 105 i'm fine i mean i've had to start sometimes at 11 35 uh in the
06:14in the morning
06:15um but you know it doesn't matter to me but uh you know you take a a good night game
06:21on a friday
06:21or saturday night a lot of folks in the ballpark and and the weather's good enough where we can open
06:26that roof uh it just doesn't get much better than that and then the other thing remember you know
06:31again you guys may not be old enough but we used to have these matchups on sunday afternoons between
06:35nolan ryan and roger clemens when we'd play the red socks and those sunday afternoons were just
06:42absolutely beautiful arlington stadium and so that's another thing a good sunday afternoon
06:47game with the roof open and the weather's nice that's that's a lot of fun too chuck you know
06:51you mentioned you're you've spent a long time around the game of baseball and uh are so passionate
06:58about it there's obviously been a lot of different changes to the game and in recent years to you know
07:04kind of boost popularity with with the more average fan different things like the pitch clock and now the
07:09abs challenge system the bigger bases all those different things what do you how have you felt
07:14about the evolution of the game and and where it's heading uh well you know you're asking the wrong
07:21guy because uh having been around the game a long time um i'm a real old hard traditionalist i mean
07:29uh
07:30i'm so old if it was left up to me the only time the two leagues would meet would be
07:36in the world
07:36oh baby i like it you know and here's the other thing here um you know we'd get the yankees
07:43in
07:43twice a year we get the red socks in twice a year you know that doesn't happen anymore uh we
07:49get houston
07:50here twice which is good but you know uh i don't what i don't like bobby is i don't like
07:56the uh i don't
07:58like the guy on second to start the extra innings and i know why that thank you thank you
08:03not a big fan uh but the pitch clock i'm okay with i i i don't know why they couldn't
08:11police
08:11that without putting that clock in but you know the clocks work real well i really like the abs i
08:17mean things and technology's changed so much and and uh you know uh uh i i hate i'd hate to
08:24be the
08:24umpire back there getting questioned like that but uh yeah so far i i like the abs thing but the
08:31one
08:31thing that i'd get rid of is that is the guy on second base to start the extra innings i'm
08:35just
08:35just not a fan of that and uh in fact i'll tell you a funny story the first or second
08:42time that ever
08:43happened i'm in my booth and nolan ryan and his wife ruth were watching at home down in uh down
08:49by
08:49austin and the phone rings and the start of the middle of the 10th inning and and ruth ryan says
08:55chuck
08:55nolan wants to know how you score that guy on your score sheet if he scores and who gets an
09:01earned
09:01and i said well ruth it's an it's a uh earned run it's a team earned run not for the
09:07pitcher so
09:07nolan was worrying about how to score that absolutely right yeah it's he he did if you got the second
09:14base off him you better earn it that that's how he would look exactly hey i want to ask you
09:18this about
09:18abs because you brought it up all right so when we're in the stadium how are we the fans in
09:23the
09:23ballpark going to uh take in the abs is it going to be is it real time on the jumbotron
09:31how does that
09:31work yeah it's just like uh it's just like you're at home uh we we worked with it uh the
09:38two exhibition
09:38games we had against kansas city last week and and uh it works just the way it does you're watching
09:43you just look up on the big screen the umpire will turn around and make the announcement that
09:47either the hitter or the catcher the pitcher is challenging the call and then it'll pop up
09:53there on the board and you'll see where the pitch was and just just like you see at home on
09:57on tv so
09:57it it didn't uh it worked real well here and and we had some experience with it before they did
10:02it
10:03during the uh the futures game uh when they had the all-star game here so it works okay it's
10:09really
10:10great i think it's good i like it chuck last one before we get you out of here uh and
10:15you know you
10:16don't want to end on something controversial but how do you respond to the allegations that there has
10:21been a lot of wagering on the dot races and that you've turned a blind eye to it you know
10:27over the years uh you know i've benefited from some of that i hate to admit that you're taking
10:33payments under the table you invented it it's not really uh it'll either be a cheeseburger or a rack
10:41of ribs something like that uh you know and it's it's unfortunate that that's happened but uh that's
10:48just the way the world is and i'm sorry about it but you know i i have to remind you
10:53there is no
10:53wager that's right you said exhibition there you go yes you say it chuck morgan
