00:15welcome to another episode of five aside on being sports we have a lot of amazing action as we are
00:20getting the final teams qualifying for the world cup fresh off the presses that we just witnessed
00:25live congo is advancing past jamaica 1-0 victory in the stadio acron in guadalajara mexico a team we
00:32witnessed the afcon multiple matches really hard fought um tournament experience unfortunately went
00:37out to algeria which we saw as well but thoughts on congo making it to the world cup their first
00:41one
00:42since 1970 hey that's what a lot of games to get here that's very elimination single elimination
00:46against cameroon single elimination against nigeria single elimination against jamaica tough teams
00:51yeah get through it all yeah very impressive be a lot of very strong teams i it's the team that
00:56in the country that i felt most connected to when we were at afcon the frequent phone connection
01:00between them and my country haiti it's both of our first time at the world cup since 1974 so it
01:06just
01:06signifies a very beautiful moment for the diaspora i'm happy for them we're gonna celebrate together
01:11and i hope they do amazing at the world cup yeah no big big big shout out to them bro
01:16the amount that
01:17they've grown in what the last four ish years since the not this previous afcon but the one before
01:22that uh they just think it's super super impressive than all the players that have been able to tap in
01:26with them so for instance alex toanzebe a manchester united academy talent who could have played for
01:31england playing for congo he's one who scored today in the 100th minute to give them the big winner so
01:36that's just such a massive pickup erinwan basaka another british congolese baller then you have the
01:41likes of bakambu doing his thing over in real betis on the number 10 that we talked about last time
01:45your twin imbuku as well so they have a squad bro and they earned it um and it's really good
01:49to see
01:49the growth of congolese football and the first sub-saharan african team to qualify for the world cup
01:55shout out moosey for the fun facts producer in the back amazing of course right what do you have to
01:59say about jamaica football jamaica you have to make this world cup not just an expanded format but three
02:06extra spots because the three host nations are conca-calf teams jamaica has to be in that world cup
02:11they have to there's no excuse like yeah it's really it's it's just a simple fail like you
02:16failed period it's unfortunate it brings a lot within you know jamaican football they have some
02:20very good academies shout out the phoenix academy you know craig butler's been doing his thing but
02:26it's like exporting talent and allowing talent not only back home to the world but also in the
02:30diaspora the world is a very very big thing yeah you know what i mean you look at somebody like
02:33you
02:34know uh billy duncan richards or whisper went straight to chelsea there's not many people like that
02:39even on the women's side look at someone like bunny shaw there's not many people like that but
02:42there's so much talent back home you know what i mean so it's unfortunate like i said last time
02:46they've unfortunately hurt my friends feelings again but there's just so much talent specifically
02:50within the youth yeah it's always i don't know even looking at how they play i was watching this
02:55one interview with craig butler and he was saying that like you know people always ask him does he
02:58want to coach jamaica because of how involved he is he's always like no due to just you know the
03:02politics and everything but like if you look at just how jamaican people perform in other sports
03:09sprinting number one are you pressing high like are you doing things that align with yourself
03:14culturally yeah doing things on the field and how that represents yourself yeah it was a great
03:18conversation so no it's a disappointment you know no iraq versus bolivia iraq has qualified for the
03:252026 world cup sebastian i know this one means a lot to you yeah i'll let you break it down
03:29iraq would be
03:30the team to have won the most single elimination games on the way to this world cup wow so to
03:35make it out
03:35of asia you have to win three single elimination games so they beat indonesia they beat united arab
03:39emirates they beat um uh no they beat kuwait indonesia united arab emirates so three single
03:47elimination games and then they come all the way to mexico with a lot of trouble to get to mexico
03:53it
03:53wasn't even clear they were going to be able to travel they actually it was cool they asked they
03:57were like most of us can't travel fans wise so they asked the mexican people to support them like
04:01the national team sent out like an official communication asking like mexico to support
04:05them during the world cup or during the world cup qualifier uh and the mexican people responded so
04:09you're going to see like lots of mexicans like in the stands like really really happy for iraq
04:13having qualified for them to get past bolivia which is not easy because bolivia is one of the club
04:17one of the teams that has the most experience in this qualification gauntlet playing top teams
04:24bolivia's qualifying is argentina brazil uruguay uh colombia so bolivia's amazing team so to get past
04:30them shows i think the rise in asian football it shows the rise of middle eastern football and i
04:35think iraq going into the world cup have a lot to prove and a lot to fight for huge huge
04:40huge huge
04:41and with that we know every single nation in the world cup it's true amazing it's real it's real
04:46it's happening guys you know what else is happening the u.s men's national team of course is one of
04:52the
04:52hosts for this world cup but unfortunately has not been in the best form losing 5-2 to belgium i
04:59will say
04:59though in the matches before that they did get some big wins 5-1 over uruguay solid draw against
05:04ecuador um had beat turquia things like that nature but how are we feeling about the u.s heading into
05:08the world cup this is the last camp before the world cup there'll be some friendlies later in
05:12the season right beforehand but in terms of pre-world cup camp this is it my my thing and i
05:18feel like i
05:18said this before like we even got to this time period they picked like the most difficult teams to
05:24play right before the world which i think was good it's a good thing and it's a bad thing it's
05:29great
05:29because obviously you want to you know measure yourself against the best of the world you want
05:33to give yourself a challenge you want to prepare yourself for what you're about to go into but it's
05:37also like if you get thrashed you let in five goals you let in three goals whatever morally yeah
05:43the more saying that the vibe starts to be like damn like you start arguing with your teammates you start
05:48questioning who should be playing where you start questioning the manager pochettino how is he how is he
05:53doing with the starting 11 like it just raises so many questions versus like give yourself the likes
05:59of like i don't know a country not like careful not now i'm playing up i got you i got
06:04you you know
06:05what i mean give yourself maybe a regular conca cap style opponent yeah i got you like haiti we play
06:09some friendlies against iceland tunisia we didn't say yo let's give it brazil really let's play
06:14argentina before you go so you gotta warm yourself up it's a warm-up it's a warm-up that's fair
06:20interesting i don't know i think sometimes friendlies people put too much weight on so i
06:25was beating what do i 5-1 i mean that in a world cup it's an insane result us losing
06:305-2 to belgium
06:31in a world cup that's also an insane result on the opposite side but as a friendly you know it's
06:36good
06:36and it's bad and they just to me they just kind of cancel out keep it pushing you cannot get
06:40overly
06:40emotional about friendlies yeah i see a lot of the media and the attention and kind of just but i
06:44think
06:44there's some anxiety and nerves around the national team i think it's time to but but you know as a
06:49competitive person yeah professional athlete every time you go out there you're playing hard
06:53it's true like it's not like oh this is a friendly we lost it's like no but sometimes that was
06:59us out
06:59there playing it's not 100 they're not throwing their bodies on the line because for instance one
07:04of the belgian goals that's who in the world doku and tim i don't know if we saw that matchup
07:09but when you play up against those types of players you're like i agree one of their goals though
07:14as a defender you in a world cup you throw your body in front of that right now we don't
07:19want to
07:19get hurt bro it's close time you know so there's little things like that but overall still terrible
07:24loss beating uruguay great win but we'll see man i still got faith in us i still got faith in
07:29us
07:30getting the losses out the way it's a fact um speaking of getting losses out the way josh
07:37ghana has lost five straight matches oh the coach has been fired while the rest of africa is looking
07:44quite solid ahead of the world cup so what are your thoughts on the the current circumstances
07:48i know as i introduced you know as you introduced and i ended it has to be getting losses out
07:53the way
07:53like yeah it's um i don't know it's definitely a bit worrying especially with the coach leaving
07:58yeah that's the thing was like it hasn't been brewing for a while um as somebody who you know
08:03we've stuck with for a little bit players have built that relationship it's not the timing for
08:07it whether you said there's one more camp or like even just space in the calendar for international
08:12games right right before the tournament starts yeah a week before but those are the same players
08:16of the world cup it's not like you can switch out now yeah so it's concerned i will say you
08:20know
08:20the germany match is not like we got smacked up you know defense is always going to be it
08:26the way we don't win our game is going to be out scoring but the person who helps us scores
08:30the
08:30most goal has been injured for so long so i believe that it will be a different ground and
08:34kudos is there yeah no different type of support system fair but strong choice from africa in general
08:39senegal morocco algeria egypt ivory coast all with some um really impressive performances egypt
08:44actually tied spain today nil nil they might have let in 35 shots but they did not concede and spain
08:49is on a 27 unbeaten street 35 shots from who spain or maybe it was 27 but like they were
08:54peppering
08:55the goal and egypt was like nah we don't get that cliche we can look at the exact stuff yeah
08:59but
09:00like no it was a lot it's like once you know when you know when spain and teams like spain
09:03start
09:03peppering let's say you just cannot score it's crazy yes two to three minutes yes i saw ivory
09:10coast had a massive i think it was like a 4-0 win against uh south korea yeah which actually
09:15started
09:15to worry a lot of the south korean fans as well so shout out to ivory coast as well how
09:20do you feel
09:20about africa heading to the world cup real quick but i think the squads are looking good i know ghana's
09:23been a little
09:23disappointing but i think they're gonna fix it too yeah i'm gonna play u.s thursday no in may oh
09:29yeah i'm excited for them everyone looks good i think everyone looks good on average everyone looks
09:35good like algeria had like a 7-0 win this african team is probably stronger than the weakest any other
09:42team to be honest i think that's a testament to african football who's the weakest african team south
09:46africa maybe south africa yeah hardest kid though hardest kid though but like out of the european team
09:52south africa is stronger than like a bosnia for sure they're stronger than bosnia i would say
09:57interesting and i'll say team out of asia they're stronger than iraq yeah out of uh uh south america
10:04south africa stronger than stronger than kura south for sure yeah kura south for sure that's fair i mean
10:09that's it stronger than uh new zealand yeah fair like the the worst african team is stronger than any
10:15of the worst teams than any other so it tells you the stress that's an interesting take african football
10:19yeah sure that's fair i don't think that's a yeah you think it's better than bolivia i think so i
10:24think it's comparable comparable yeah pretty close there's a lot less to south america is so competitive
10:29yeah but yeah interesting and then lastly we have to talk about the french national team
10:35i saw them beat brazil in person you saw them beat colombia in person they're looking like clear
10:40favorites but what are your thoughts on just how talented and how good this team is
10:44yeah like bro mbappe elise dembele do they're about to call it like the song check it's ridiculous
10:49for me the thing that will continue to stand out is i saw their b team duway taram jerky the
10:55and conte in the midfield like that was their b team right and i saw them dominate the colombia
11:01a team and i saw people making jokes online about how like the french b team could even be better
11:06than
11:06the french a team dembele and bapé were on the bench the whole time laughing having a good time
11:12came on the field in the second half and we're just passing the ball around moving fluid yeah so
11:18i don't know it kind of goes back to the conversation we had about them against synagogue but if you
11:22have
11:22two starting 11s when have we ever seen a team go into the world cup with two starting 11s that
11:29could beat every single team like genuinely of course their b team can beat every single team
11:34it's pretty crazy all your starters are injured you you can still win yeah it's like yeah it's a
11:40scene it's a different type of feeling going into a world cup where you could trust everybody bro
11:44everybody feels good yeah anybody gets subbed on you're good yeah trust that they'll figure it out
11:50for sure and i always trust that we'll figure it out ourselves here with five time being sports and
11:55talk to you next week peace
11:56peace
