00:00But first, I have a question for you guys. What memory first comes to mind when you guys think of what you're thankful for in regards to African football history for national teams?
00:10I'll start off. I know it's recency bias, but the fact that Morocco is able to be the first ever African nation to make it to the World Cup semifinal.
00:20I mean, that's the definition of trailblazing and seeing all their recent success.
00:24We've talked about now the U-20 World Cup, the infrastructure, them hosting AFCON.
00:28It looks like they're one of the true world powerhouses. I just think that's an incredible moment.
00:32And you can see that that moment is turning into a movement. So I'm going to have to go with that.
00:36Yeah. And just to double down on that even further, I think it was the path that Morocco had in the knockout stages that emphasizes the African pride.
00:45So obviously, like the beating both teams on the Iberian Peninsula.
00:49And I'm saying this and I'm Spanish. That tells you how important it is.
00:51Getting past Spain, getting past Portugal, despite all the country that those three countries have with each other.
00:57And then ultimately facing France. And although they lost, played in a phenomenal match against everyone that they can be very proud of.
01:05But for me, it takes me back to the 2010 World Cup, South Africa being the host country.
01:10And just the vibe that that entire World Cup had.
01:13Like, like that was the first representation for me seeing a World Cup in a way that like celebrated African culture that wasn't like, didn't feel forced.
01:23And there was nothing negative and weird and like low bar. It felt like just as high quality.
01:27There was no like weird conspiracies or like controversies that were coming out about it.
01:32It was just a great time, beautiful time.
01:34Yeah. And like even all the South African gold celebrations and the dances that they had together and whatnot.
01:39It was just a good time.
01:40I'm Spanish. We won that World Cup. I'm adding that right there.
01:44We won the one World Cup in Africa. Y'all tu sabes. Give me that too. Come on.
01:47We move with others forever.
01:49I'm thankful about the songs.
01:50The songs. That's the best. That's low-key peak like football.
01:54The soundtrack is amazing.
01:55Yeah. Amazing.
01:56For sure. I mean, I would definitely bring it back home.
01:59I would definitely say Ghana.
02:002010, we had a great run.
02:02The, you know, longest run an African team has ever gone in the World Cup.
02:05And that was only what our second World Cup appearance.
02:08And you should have gone to the semis.
02:09You know what I mean?
02:10We got to talk about it though.
02:11Bringing it back to AFCON.
02:12We won AFCON four times.
02:14First time in 63.
02:15We gained our independence in 57.
02:18So we get it done quick, man.
02:20We start hot.
02:21Definitely, bro.
02:21We start very, very hot.
02:22Definitely start hot.
02:23Get it done.
02:24It's cool to see that.
02:25Obviously, African football is also a time for different, you know, national teams to express themselves.
02:29From Cassie Flavor.
02:30You know what I mean?
02:31Goten Bullman football.
02:33A lot of streetball vibes in there too.
02:34So that's something I always love to see.
02:36For sure.
02:37I think for me as a Cameroonian, recency bias as well.
02:40But that memory from the 2022 Qatar World Cup when Cameroon beat Brazil.
02:45Abuba Cup.
02:47Abuba Cup.
02:48Abuba Cup.
02:49That is the...
02:50I'm going to tell you.
02:50He might be the funniest player on the planet, bro.
02:53Uncle, uncle of boobs.
02:56Basically, what happens is he is 1-1 against Brazil in the World Cup.
03:02And he has the composure to chip the goalkeeper against Brazil in a World Cup.
03:07Takes off his shirt, celebrates, does the Abuba Cup celebration.
