SNOW MONKEYS SOAK IN HOT SPRINGS AS SNOW FALLS AROUND THEM
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
Stunning images and footage show snow monkeys relaxing in steaming hot springs as snow falls around them
Wildlife photographer and guide Sean Weekly, 36, from Portishead, North Somerset, captured the scenes in Jigokudani Monkey Park, also known as “Hell’s Valley" in Japan.
The visuals show the monkeys calmly bathing in the geothermal waters, seemingly unfazed by the freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall around them.
In one moment, a playful youngster can be seen leaping over its mother, adding a lively contrast to the otherwise peaceful setting.
The unique combination of steaming water, thick snow and expressive wildlife has made the species one of the most photogenic in the world, drawing photographers from across the globe.
Sean said: “I was trying to film and document the interaction and behaviour of the snow monkeys, especially showing how relaxed they are whilst bathing in the springs.
“I also wanted to try and portray the harsh environments and weather conditions that these monkeys have to endure during the winter.
“However, there is not always heavy snowfall, so it’s always a special moment photographing in the snow."
